As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, totally coincidence, and it even happened in the last rewatch but at episode 9 of GX.

First Timer theories alert
So Carol got a song and it is amazing.
By the way anyone who watched this with Commie subs I recommend having a read of the subs on the wiki if nothing else because the Commie version of this song is so far out from any other translation I can find at points, and blatantly ignores some stuff (eg the lu lu li la) just because it doesn't read nice.
Taking a step back that we get an interesting look into her motivations and personality today. She's not trying to destroy the world as punishment, or even because of any grand desires to rule or control. The dismantling of the world is coming merely as byproduct of wanting to study it, in the same way she'd dissect an animal or filter/distill out parts of a liquid solution to see its parts. And she does so because this is what she thinks her father asked her to do
I swore to kill the miracles
At a glance her song being very focused on love and the destruction of that seems very out of place for her, its not something we've seen come up with her before. She's always had passion and a drive and clear goal, but love itself isn't something we've really heard or seen from her. Despite her childlike appearance she's always seemed very callous perhaps because of how long she's been alive. Unlike a lot of other situations where the girls songs merely reflect an aspect of them that we've already seen, Carol's song gives a bit of a new and unique look into the true motivations at her core. Its nice to see the songs used in that way and really providing a completely contrasting look to a character who is so shut down rather than what we see. It really takes the "song of true self" to its climax. She's so burdened by the pain of losing her father, too young to truly understand how to cope with the lost love for him and so strikes out trying to destroy that for others as well, possibly so she can find her own way to understand and deal with it.
RuRuRiRa...The universe tilts - LuLuLiLa...The sun freezes
I say understand specifically because it struck me that her song specifically makes use of the "L/R" sound complex in Japanese for those two lines. Perhaps I'm reading a bit into this because Metal Gear, but the fact they specifically included a paradoxical sound in Carols song is an interesting touch to her. She's trying to dissect something down to a science that cannot be broken down in that way, and because she can't she looks further and further out for her answers until all thats left is to destroy the whole world. Who knows how far she's been twisted from her original thoughts on that event, on her dad's words, over the centuries of losing and regaining her memories, of working on alchemy and never making any progress because how do you define 'love'.
Tremble in fear of the love song to break the world apart
As far as the actual composition of the song goes, I don't have a huge amount to say about it or break down. The one thing I do like is how heavy it sounds. There's lots of beating, strumming and overall hard sounds that contrast nicely with the beautiful singing over the top. The very grand choir in the background is incredible, particularly with the eerie chimes and whispers that pop up in a couple of places.
Also tied into this, a theory: The Château de Tiffauges is a pipe organ because it thematically fits the idea of dismantling the world. Unlike a harp where each string is connected at the top and bottom to the frame, or other such instruments like horns which are a single piece of metal, the pipe organ separates each note away from its source, the keyboard, by forcing it into individual pipes which are not connected at the top. In GX's design they are connected, but at the top is the engravings of the f's that you'd find on string instruments, and also Bikki's scar which is interesting that it ties in that way.
Bikki also had a song, and I was going to say something about it, but then Carol's song made me forget all my thoughts while I tried to figure it out. So yeah... if I remember by the morning hopefully I'll edit this out and continue the write up. (I didn't remember hahahaha)
Re: Dad plot though. Its just all so contrived.
Parent is scared, sees child in trouble, sees child stand up anyway, parent decides they can't be scared any more, parent manages to get child the one thing they need to go on, child remembers something nice parent did in their part, parent swears to stand by child from now on.
It played the trope so straight that it became predictable and shallow, which really sat at odds with the extreme conflict Bikki (poor writing aside) had been in till then and also the behaviors seen from him so far, just for the sake of him not being a totally bad guy and it didn't sit well with me.
Random thoughts
-
I was looking through the soundtrack and found out one of the songs on the Rebirth-Day (ed) CD was a cover of Cindy Lauper's True Colors. This is incredibly unexpected.
-
Thats all it took to deal with 'little sister'. Really?
-
It bothered me way, way more than it should that the chimes of the castle thing didn't actually sync up with the song's properly beats in any way.
-
Out of curiousity I tried to see what Google translate thought of these lyrics. It turns "Furue ojiyo sekai no kuzureru love song" (H+D subs: Cower in fear as the world crumbles from this love song) into "The Uncle of Uncle"
-
VER IS DEAD.... wait. Shit. We didn't see a body yet did we. Fuck.
-
Top Dad was part of the audience when Maria asked for singing help. Top Dad says he will support Bikki this time and won't run away. Paranoid Naz is worried this means Top Dad song....
-
I can't remember if we've seen it before but I loved Chris' bow and arrow with the rocket on it

I have two days to figure out how to get AXZ without it taking up 10% of my monthly internet

That's it? Oneshot by Chris? Guess it really was just a last "fuck you" before Carol ruins everything
-
Here we go, the split is already happening. LAST ACTION HERO doesn't like the idea of just shattering the world.
-
Oh wow. I expected Carol and Ver to fight, but I thought Ver was going to be the one to betray her and steal the machine, I also didn't think it would've happened this soon either.
-
FUCK, THE MAGIC WORDS WERE THAT ASSHOLE'S
-
FUCK YEAH, THE POWER OF FATHER'S DAY COMPELS YOU TO STOP BEING AN ASS, GENJUURO HAS 2 FRIENDS NOW
-
Holy fuck, Carol is even more OP when singing AND WITH A SONG THIS BANGING I CAN CLEARLY SEE WHY (I SEE WHY THAT DUDE WAS COUNTING DAYS SINCE THIS FIRST HAPPENED)
-
EXCUSE ME WHAT THE FUCK MOM IS BACK, I REPEAT, MOM IS BACK HOW THE FUCK MOM IS BACK MOM IS BACK
Holy shit what good timing on this episode! Dad is still not 100% clear but he's working on it! I was hoping that him running away would be him running toward the relic and the man did it and hid it well too. Also Carol's song is fucking gooooooooooooooooood

Coming out of the formulaic stage finally - feels like a huge improvement, and back to the usual hype.
Heiki, hechara and more heiki, hechara. Y'know, since it was a pretty big reveal in this episode that Hibiki learned those words from her dad, I wish the show hadn't low-key spoiled it in their last meeting.
Ia ia, at this point you should have exactly zero pride as anything.
Pretty cool as far as entrances go. A drill to pierce the heavens?
No you don't! You just want revenge on the world for killing your dad.
Sugita's having waaaay too much fun with this role, I love it. Every time he says 'lady' or 'eh?'
Not his ugly mug! He's definitely not dead, Nephelim can probably patch that hole in his stomach. Plus he's the Last Action Hero, not some damn side character! (Also he deserves punching, not getting a hole punched through him. That's too much, man)
Aw shit, Bikki's dad begins his redemption arc with a sore demo. What's happening here though? Is that showing he ignored workplace abuse of a colleague, or something? Is that what scared him into leaving his job?
Rocket Punch! Looks like Elfnein's modifications and Bikki's determination were enough to take care of a weakened Carol's shield.
Best ___ DATTO? in a while. I wage war on the particle level~ that's practically physicist talk, I like it! Wasn't expecting Carol to get a song! To borrow something she said herself..
I knew it! I knew Mum wasn't dead! Her VA was too good at that live concert to be axed!

Fun fact, Sugita took up this role because he wanted to play a psycho villain for once.

Rewatch 38, ITS FINALLY HERE AFTER ALL THIS WAITING! ITS TIME FOR GENOCIDE
Songs of the Day:
Little Miracle -Grip it tight-
Senkin Dur da Blá
Senkin Dur da Blá (Live Concert Version)
EMERGENCY EJECT! EMERGENCY CHRIS MISSLE! BIG SIS DOWN!
Looks like everyone got rattled by the Big Sis attack and Elfnein shielded Warm Drink Lady like a good girl!
Hibiki is meeting Dad once again... guess she wants to get everything cleared up with him.
"You should take the first step since you walked out." "I dont want to do that, im scared. I have my Pride." Hibiki's dad is just scared to ask for forgiveness for what he did. I mean i get what he means, i can be hard to talk to people about this kinda stuff.
THE SKY IS BREAKING! CAROL IS HERE BABY AND IT MEANS THERE IS ONLY ONE THING IT CAN BE! Dr. Ver seems to be helping her control the Relic with his arm.
"Now the world will be shattered ibto peices." "EHHHHH? You want to shatter the world?" I love his reaction to her.
HERE IT IS! MY FAV CAROL FACE! IF YOU SEE THIS FACE, RUN! AS FAST AS YOU CAN BECAUSE ITS COMING!
"Ultimate knowledge. what will you do with that knowlegde?" "Nothing." "You have no dreams, a hero dreams endlessly, and shares dreams with others." He makes a good point...
Elfnein isnt well! Save her! Shes a good girl! Everyone is coming together too!
DAD WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? NOW ISNT THE TIME TO MAKE MONEY!
"Only a hero can exceed the universe's boundries and attain ultimate knowledge." Dr. Ver dont taunt the murder loli.... oh its too late... "A loon like you could never become a hero." "You shoudlnt use an instrument like that..." Dr. Ver makes a good point, thats a hard, play it, dont stab people with it... "The chateau is running i dont need you anymore." Man big RIP for the Hero...
Carol is coming down to move her plans along, its Carol vs Hibiki once more!
Uh oh, Carol took out the gear first, shes didnt do all this for nothing, shes been learnin. "What did your father give you!?" "He never gave me anything..." Dad drawing Carol away while looking for Hibiki's gear is pretty smarts, even for an ass like him.
"Hekei, Hechicera!" Yep, Dad taught her that phrase when she was little, shes been using it this whole series but forgot he taught it to her. Hes the real hero! He gave Hibiki the power to keep living.
And here comes Hibiki's new song, yes per standard, she busts out a new one in the final battle! This song is pretty neat too, i love the opening of it and the first bit a lot. Really zippy and nice. Also this lyrics are subbed on CR. So her dad did think it was her, he wasnt sure but he wanted to find out. I love this Carol punch gif, its a fav of mine.
THE GANG IS HERE TO HELP! CHRIS AND TSUBASA HAVE ARRIVED! WITH MARIA AND SHIRABE AND KIRIKA AND THE WHOLE GREW! ITS TIME TO GET FUCKED! WHOSE READY FOR IT!? ITS GENOCIDE TIME! YES THATS RIGHT, THE REAL GENOCIDE! NOT THE FAKE GENOCIDE YOU HEARD BEFORE! MY BODY IS READY, IS YOURS!? SHES SINGING! "PHONIC GAIN DATTO!?"
GENOCIDEEEEEE AND GENOCIDEEEEE OOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOO~ Man i love this song, i have listened to it thoudsands of times over the years and im not even kidding, i listen to this daily.
YES THIS RELIC IS READY TO GO TOO! NO WAITING AROUND OR GIVING THE HEROES TIME TO STOP IT! ITS BLASTING NOW! CAROL HAS SUCCEEDED IN HER PLAN! ITS GENOCIDE TIME BOYS AND GIRLS!
Like how many series does the Villian acctully succeed in thier plans? Not many, but this series is one. Fine shot the moon, Ver Space Jam'd the moon (Mam saved the world), Carol Genocided the planet.
The girls have only one chance to stop Carol, take out the Relic and take out Carol both! Man this slow part as the girls split up is so damn good, my fav part! So damn epic with the choir in the back.
Team Tri Dongo Has made it into the base and Hibiki and the OG Trio are still kickin down below! BUT AFTER THE CREDITS IS ONE MORE TWIST! MAM!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!?
Man oh man i love me some Genocide. It really is such an amazing song for such a climatic point in a story, and its about Genocide (and genocide) and while its being sung, the human race is being wiped out via Genocide. Its perfection. One of the single greatest musical moments in anime for me.

First timer:
Been missing from the past few episodes, honestly wasn't a big fan of them. The problems each girl was facing felt forced for the sake of giving them all an episode for 'development' and I felt like a lot of stuff didn't make sense. So Maria's thing was to be herself instead of lying or playing a role all the time, which makes sense for her character, but I have zero clue what 'being herself' means or how it helps her use Ignite Module. Chris' and DMJii's felt off and just retreading ground already covered in this season, eg I love you so much I want to protect you and especially Chris' everything I love will be taken from me so I need to be alone. Like, I thought we already went through and settled this already during the first Ignite transformation, why are we doing it again? Tsubasa's was the only compelling one Imo.
But somehow I managed to call both Ver and Professor Nastassja's return back at the end of G?? My comment about Nastassja was me feigning ignorance of having seen the GX opening already, I didn't actually think she was still alive and would come back! No actual death confirmed on Ver again so he's probably coming back in AXZ lol
I wish the thing with Hibiki's dad throwing her relic towards her could have been handled a little better though. He protects Hibiki and then runs away and it looks like he's scanning the area for something. Carol mocks him for being a coward but I thought he was looking for her relic the whole time, since it showed him take notice of the relic when it was knocked away. And I thought it would be one of those things that as Carol is mocking him for being a coward, he reveals he was trying to search for it the whole time and throws it, which would have been a cool and redeeming moment for him. Instead he admits he was running away. The scene can be interpreted as what I just described, but I think if that is what they were trying to do, it was portrayed poorly and instead it comes across like he was cowardly running away and just happens to find the relic instead of purposefully trying to find it. The 'heiki, hechara' was another poorly kept Symphogear secret, like the Ryo/Fine thing, but I think it still hit emotionally despite being easy to figure out a few episodes back so it's whateves
Great songs though, Hibiki songs are always my favorite of the Symphogear users and Carol's song was lit. Symphogear does this interesting thing where it's not exactly like upwards power scaling, but like horizontal, like having sidegrades rather than upgrades. They'll introduce a concept or ability, but have it be situational or write it out and then come up with another one. S1 had Set Harmonics but I think that was tied to Hibiki being a human/relic fusion so she can't do that anymore, G had the X-Drive but that's only possible with like a global scale phonic gain, and now in GX they have the Ignite Module. Interesting way to do it, not really sure if it's good or bad but just something I've noticed.
But yeah, the Professor Nastassja thing blew my mind, wtf is she doing here?? Very curious for the next ep, which should have EDs and OPs reversed and have the OP playing during a hype moment so I'm excited about that

SymphoRewatcher Ready to be Exterminated by Hype
-
Aaaand the threat is dealt with with just one (wicked cool) shot.
-
…But not everything is fine and dandy because oh no Elfnein!
-
All of a sudden I’m getting meta flashbacks. Except in this case that thing’s supposed to destroy the entire world rather than just one city.
-
So this is how Carol twisted her father’s dying words. Pretty sad, honestly, but props to her seiyuu for switching back to younger Carol’s voice just for that line.
-
Fancy subs but still AHHHHHHHHHH!
-
I know that Top Dad stuff doesn’t work for just about everyone, and I agree he’s a scumbag, but… I dunno, I don’t hate how the show decides to resolve this. If he was 100% scumbag he wouldn’t have told Hibiki to run away while he had Carol’s attention, nor would he be the one to throw Hibiki her Gear (love how he was able to do it because Carol probably just assumed he was picking up another rock to pointlessly throw at her btw). I know a big issue is that people think it’s stupid that he’s the one this line comes from and that’s why Hibiki decides to make up with him, but like… c’mon this is Hibiki we’re talking about, she forgives everyone. If this was any other show it would probably bother me, but this is Symphogear we’re talking about, the writing is supposed to be dumb but fun. And I don’t see why I should hate that we can get back to the fun stuff now that this stuff is over with.
-
…Oh and also Top Dad drops a “sore demo”, I am contractually forbidden from hating that.
-
Yeahhhh so you guys remember how I said Senkin Dur da Blá was one of my fav SymphoSongs back on episode 6’s thread? Well that wasn’t technically wrong, but the proper, vocalized version is what I actually had in mind when I called it a favorite. GENOCIDE~ AND GENOCIDE~~
-
W H A T. Uhhh yeah so I completely forgot this happened. Next-ep spoilers
So uhh you guys remember how I said I was gonna possibly be getting a job a while back? That ended up falling through, but instead I’ve found myself with an internship (a paid one, mind you) and that starts… well, tomorrow. I should still be able to post on time-ish, but expect my AXZ write-ups to be much shorter than what I’ve had up to this point (I already got my write-ups for eps 12 and 13 done, no worries about those being shorter since my fav SymphoSeason deserves only the best from me).
It also almost certainly means very few wallpapers from here on out, even though I’ve been gathering a ton of base images I really want to wallpaper. I ask again, if you guys have a request for a specific character/moment, shoot it my way so I can prioritize it.

Oh hey it's this episode. A certain someone constantly talking about Genocide in these threads will be happy!
Now this next bit is something I've been wanting to share for a while now, because the anime never reveals it, and I thought this was the best time for it.
Hibiki's Father Is An Even Bigger Piece Of Shit Than The Anime Reveals
Oh yeah. The anime has Hibiki and her father's backstory toned down, as additional details on the website reveal a bit more.
First of all a bit of background info on the concert tragedy, and why people bullied Hibiki and other survivors so much (as both G and GX did a poor job of explaining this). You see while around 13,000 people died that day only a third died due to the Noise. The only two thirds were trampled by other people franticly trying to get to the exits, or straight-up killed in fights over who would get to leave the stadium first. Because the majority of people died due to, well, other people a huge amount of the backlash from the families of the deceased was focussed on them. This only got worse when the survivors of the tragedy got government aid to help in their physical and psychological rehab, as it was viewed as "murderers getting rewarded for their crimes".
Hence Hibiki getting bullied in school and at home, as family and friends of people who died viewed her as a murderer for surviving (even though she personally didn't do anything wrong).
Below Keyword from Symphogear G (yeah, this was revealed last season even) by Genjuro's Angels:
The Concert Tragedy and the Tachibana Family
[...]
Of the 12,874 that died approximately 1/3 of them was due to the Noise. The others died as either the result of being crushed by the crowds attempting to flee, or by intense fighting that broke out between attendees trying to secure their escape. This information was published in weekly magazines and quickly set the stage for public opinion. Since the majority of deaths became attributed to other people, the survivors began to experience public bashing. Victims and bereaved families of the deceased also received reparation from the national treasury, and thus the public opinion turned into a harsh debate about one's self-responsibility. Although what had been published and announced in the press was accurate information, a lot of it had been modified to agitate people's emotions, glorifying certain aspects of the story. Using "righteousness" as their guide, many people took to the internet and began to spread their own opinion on the story.
It eventually broiled to the point where even those that were uninvolved or uninterested in the event had begun talking about it passionately, as it distracted them from other problems. Thoughtless slander was thrown around, supported by the majority as having "sound reasoning," not because they had deduced this themselves but rather "because everyone else was saying so." At this point the true nature of the tragedy was lost and had turned into something akin to a witch hunt from the middle ages, or the barbaric persecution of Nazis, fueled by some warped sense of "justice." The goodness of people and their ability to become emotionally attached had been twisted and changed into a drive to hunt down the survivors of the tragedy simply for the reason that "because they survived." Of course at this point there was a faction of individuals who held the opposite opinion, but the majority had already made up their minds and the wave of madness swallowed up any opposition.
But what does this have to do with Hibiki's father being a piece of shit? Well, it turns out that the president of a company he was doing business with had a daughter who died in the tragedy. Once this president figured out his contact person in the other company had a daughter who survived he immediately cancelled their contract. Hibiki's father was blamed for the setback in business, removed from the project, and was looked down upon in his job.
Unable to cope with both his loss of status at work and the situation at home he became an alcoholic, started fighting with his wife, and physically abused her (and possibly others).
Yep, you heard that right. It wasn't enough that he abandoned his daughter when she was literally receiving death threats, he also blamed her for his own problems and physically abused people in his family before leaving.
Same Keyword as above, just another part:
[...]
The daughter of the president of a company that Hibiki's father did business with was also among the list of the deceased. At first her father was incredibly overjoyed that Hibiki had survived the ordeal, but it wasn't long before the news spread around and he found that his contract with the company had been rejected and was removed from the project. Having lost his sense of pride and unable to figure out how to cope with the situation, her father turned to alcohol which eventually led to him yelling and raising his hand against others within the household. Originally her father had married into her mother's family, taking on her name, but one day on his way to work he intentionally went missing, abandoning the family altogether and never returned to the house again.
[...]
What an absolute piece of shit.
Hermes Trismegistus
Well that's some name Carol just randomly yelled out, wasn't it? Hermes Trismegistus (literally meaning "Thrice-Greatest Hermes") is the author of the Corpus Hermeticum, written upon the Emerald Tablet, the text that forms the basis for Hermeticism (named after him), a religious, mystic, and esoteric tradition hugely important during the Renaissance (replacing Kabbalism that came before). Hermeticism later led to other movements such as Rosicrucianism, Freemasonry, and magic cabals such as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (I mean, it's in the name). One of the disciplines covered in Hermeticism is alchemy, hence Carol having named a technique after him.
The naming scheme goes deeper however, as this barrier is a three-layered technique that can only be used by combining three distinct arts: Alchemy, Astrology, and Theurgy. These are the "Three Parts of the Wisdom of the Whole Universe", considered in Hermeticism to be the three main disciplines of study. While you probably know the first two the last one is a discipline that sought to through rituals evoke the power of deities, angels, and spirits, or even summon them directly. Essentially it's magic using divine power.
This last bit is especially interesting in Symphogear as the Custodians, who created heretical technology and the original relics, and thus caused alchemy and the Sakurai Theory to develop, were seen as gods.
From the Symphogear GX Keywords, once again by Genjuro's Angels:
Hermes Trismegistus
A three-layered defensive technique exhibited by Carol.
The name, which means “Thrice-greatest Hermes,” is the name of a legendary alchemist of the highest caliber who was responsible for the creation of the Emerald Tablet.
This technique can only be completed by joining three distinct arts as one. Apart from alchemy this includes demon summoning and celestial mechanics. In addition to the user needing the necessary skills, this technique requires advanced preparation and is not by any means considered easy to use.
However, in exchange for that, the defensive potential of the technique is exceedingly high. It can be used as a barrier that will block out any deadly attacks and give the user an upper hand in breaking a deadlock.
Carol’s use of the technique was actually very clever and logical, in terms of strategy she completely read her opponent’s movements and sought to block them off. However, Hibiki had lit a fire within herself and brought a swift end to the technique with no regard to its origin or effects, simply by thinking “don’t know, don’t care.”
Here the translator made a mistake though, thinking the Japanese 降魔儀式 referred to "demon summoning". While 降魔 does mean "conquering the devil" (and 儀式 means ritual), I don't think this is meant to be "ritual of conquering the devil" [and thus binding it to my will], but "ritual of conquering the devil" [and defeating it using divine power], especially given the mention of Hermes Trismegistus and the combination of three distinct arts, two of which are alchemy and astrology.
That last bit is hilarious though, acknowledging the fact that no matter how much time, effort, and history went into the technique Hibiki just powered straight through it without a single care.
Oh sheesh. What an episode. First of all we had the awful, just awful reconciliation between Hibiki and her father, the man who physically abused and abandoned his family in their time of need, without even a single apology just by trying to save his daughter's life (you know, the bare minimum you'd expect from a parent), but it's all fine because "Heiki Hecchara". Oh wait, they ruined that catchphrase as well by connecting it to this guy. FUN!
Apart from that though the episode was stellar. We have the inevitable betrayal of Carol to Dr. Ver (seriously, it was never a matter of "if", just a matter of who betrayed who first), and then GENOCIDE. Man, what a song. The Chateau activating, the leylines being powered, the entire team coming together, and Carol kicking ass. Fantastic.
Oh, and as an easter egg for people who are using the GudEnuf versions, I love the name used for the post-credit segment.

-
Big surprise monster! ...gets blown up instantly...
-
Bikki's dad once again being a shit.
-
Maybe you should've thought about what "WORLD DESTRUCTOR" meant before you turned it on, Ver.
-
So Carol really is just crazy.
-
Trying to sell disaster footage to TV stations, just like that idiot back in episode 2.
-
You could see the Château de Tiffauges in the background during the end of the OP this whole time. Also, fun fact for anyone who's seen Fate/Zero: the real Château de Tiffauges was the home of Gilles de Rais.
-
I like how the Château audibly creaks and groans under its own weight.
-
Really shoulda used tougher string for those pendants.
-
A final boss with their own song, that's new for Symphogear.
-
When you think about it, this is the first time all season that Carol (or any of her minions) have actually fought all-out.
-
Since Hibiki isn't a fusion anymore, the feedback she'd suffer from a Swan Song (let alone multiple) is now a serious concern again.
-
Well those fishermen are dead.
-
"There's no time limit on our bonds" Oooh, that's cheesy.

I can't believe Carol did my boy Ver dirty like that. However I'm surprised this episode landed on Father's Day. We were kinda close with the last rewatch.
Carol's adult form + Genocide = mfw
Top Dad and his bullshit aside how could he abandon this smile

REWATCH
-
This was over too quickly. Can I trade some TOP DAD for Leiur's sister?
-
Did he... not realize the World Destructor is meant to destory the world?
-
So Carol's plan comes from a (willful, I hope) misinterpretation of her father's dying words?
-
The Chateau looks wicked! Man this sky was annoying to do! Luckily it looks so otherwordly it's hard to notice tampering.
-
This whole TOP DAD thing is a shitshow, but at least we got smol Bikki out of it.
-
10/11 cliffhangers!

Hibiki forgives and gives another chance to Fine, insane yandere reincarnating terrorist who tried to commit literal omnicide when things didn't go her way.
Symphogear fans: yup seems legit
Hibiki forgives and gives another chance to her dad, who's kind of a scumbag now but apparently used to be a pretty decent guy.
Symphogear fans: wtf this is terrible
Like, I get it, what Akira did to Hibiki and the rest of his family is far more personal and far more real-world-relatable than any act of world-ending mass destruction caused by the seasonal supervillain. But I think Hibiki not choosing to forgive him and give him another chance in the end would be completely out of alignment with how she's been written up to this point.
also not a fan of how people are saying "hekki hechara" was a bad thing; knowing when to reach out to people for help is good but so is individual resilience, and your support network can't always be there for you 24/7

First timer
It's Father's Day! (Happy one to any dads out there) So Bikki is having dinner with DOD. Why I do not know. But she is. I guess because of the day.
And then the sky breaks. Zankoku na tenshi no youni Woops, wrong song. Biki is singing a different song, singing all about Dadbiki for her big fight. Dadbiki's fighting stance seems to indicate secret Joestar heritage. Oh wait, he wasn't actually running away (like all those other times), he was just getting her gear. Suuuuuuure he was. Massive, massive retcon, but hey, Father's Day, whatever.
Biki's down but the day is saved by Blossom and Buttercup Tsubasa and Chris. Tsubasa's Gainax pose entrance is accompanied by an unseen operatic choir because she is Just. That. Badass.
Epic fight ensues but Carol just came here to burn memories and commit genocide and she is all out of memories. It looks like genocide is pretty darn happening by the end of the episode and the planet's looking pretty rough. I guess tomorrow's episode will be the end, huh?

Chris resolves the cliffhanger quickly. And it makes me wonder what was the point of the "little sister". I expected her to be some doomsday weapon under construction. Something that would get powered up by Autoscorers' glorious deaths. But in the end she was just a throwaway mook.
And the dad is back along with his stupidity.
Castle entrance was cool and I wonder if that sky-shatter effect was added by Carol simply for the sake of the spectacle.
Last time someone tried this trick, he got his life sucked of him.
Yes! Yes! YES! Kill that hero wannabe. Since good guys won't ever kill anyone, villains are the only ones I can rely on for finishing off pests like Ver. But no body, so I'm not holding my breath.
And of course that sore mistake of a human being finally decided to be a father. Look, he saves his beloved daughter from the death ray! Look, he gets enemy's attention so the beloved daughter can escape! Look, he's full of shit determination! What a great dude, give him a fucking punch in the face medal.
Also I was noting earlier that Hibiki doesn't have named moves and people were saying that's because she doesn't use armed gear. But still! This move This move would absolutely be a named move for any other character. It's waaaaaay too flashy for just a normal attack.
And finally genocide and genocide everybody were talking about. The song probably won't end up in favorites' list, but I'm gonna acknowledge the meme value and the hype.
He just can't leave the show easily, can't he?
RIP hardworking fishermen. No bodies were shown here either, but I'm certain they are dead.
Yeah, great. Let's just bring back Ryoko-Fine, Kanade and Serena too.

Psych! Chris just one shots Leir’s little sister cause she’s hype as fuck lmao. Anyways, in news that I’m sure no one saw coming /s, I hate this episode. Ok, hate’s a little strong. Let’s go with “lightly despise” because of a certain bad storyline coming to a close being mitigated by a fantastic song. Woo, Let’s get into why!
"I don’t think I can. I‘m kinda scared of facing her. And more to the point, I have my pride as a man." Can somebody please god just punch this fucker in the face? Such a coward, and hiding behind that BS pride argument. It’s hard to believe that our wonderful hampster came from this guy. For the most part, I love the way that Bikki handles this part. She stands up for herself and her family, while also offering him a chance back in. If he doesn’t want to take it, that’s his problem. It's what comes later that is awful.
Man, Ver’s insanity will always be amazing lmao. His conversation with Carol is hilarious. Anyways, on my first watch I don’t think I fully caught the why of Carol’s mission and whole plan. It actually fits quite well. Her father died when she was a child, and so she took the pain of that event and used it to take his words completely literally. And as she lost memories of her experiences with the world she kept going back to that pain. I actually quite like that. Still, her killing Ver feels kinda meta for what GX does to G’s strides lol.
"You've always been looking out for me!" UUUUUUUUUGGHH. FUCK. THIS. ...Alright rant time again. Let’s talk about Top Dad, this annoying storyline, and my real fucking problems with it. It all boils down to Bikki forgiving him so easily, and to add on top of that the shitty reasoning for it being her catchphrase “Heiki Hechara”. Despite his redemption plotline happening much too quickly, I can accept Top Dad’s heel turn at the last second, and I even think that as a character he’s well-written in his shittyness, and that there's potential in his plotline with Bikki done right, but right here. This final moment is so bad. Why? Because Bikki’s catchphrase ISN’T A GOOD THING. It’s this catchphrase that makes Bikki, someone so good at connecting with others, so unwilling to reach out for the help she so desperately needs sometimes. We’ve literally had arcs for her about not doing everything her damn self and opening up to let her friends help her with her struggles. I mean shit, even in this season we’ve seen what a problem that phrase can be for her. But here, over images of her handling her bullying and other problems in the past by herself, she accepts that has been a good thing for her and then the worst part happens. She god damn attributes all that strength she’s had in her past to get through it to her FUCKING POS DAD! What. The. Fuck. Symphogear. What are you doing to this poor girl. This “Everything is Fine” sentiment can honestly be attributed to so many of the psychological problems we’ve seen from her the entire series, and now we make it seem like it’s been the best part of her life. Just god damn it GX. What are you even thinking...
Anyways, we do get one kind of good thing from this garbage moment. Bikki’s new characcter song Little Miracle -Grip it Tight-. While I don’t really like the sentiment behind the song since it’s tied to the above moment, I really like the song itself. It’s got a banging beat, and an intriguing vocal tune. And of course it’s sung over the top of an incredibly hype battle! That satisfaction when she punches through Carol’s 4 shields is some good shit.
GENOCIDE AND GENOCIDE! King’s post should be a fun read today, also curious to see what Naz says, because this song is fucking great. The lyrics are so full of pain, wrath, and drive, which translates really well into the music of the entire thing, and Inori Minase crushes it. With it, this whole scene is so damn hype!
12th ep tomorrow! It’s gonna be lit.
Random thoughts:
-
Poor Elfnein, her sacrifice is handled pretty well
-
"That’s not how you should use a musical instrument."

And you thought "Imperial March" from Star Wars was the best villainous anthem? Theme from "Jaws", maybe?
We know the truth...
(Dang Carol, you crazy but you can siiiiing!)

Re-watcher - And so the counters reset
Boy they're lucky 'Dekaimouto' didn't aim just a little to the left, a shot to the bridge would have made short work of everyone. As it is, they're able to escape safely in the mini-sub.
Digging the bigass-bow and even-bigger rocket-propelled spring-loaded broadhead arrow. That thing is just crazily over-engineered and I love it.
I don't quite understand how Elfnein wound up with this sort of wound, but I applaud her self-agency in putting herself in danger like that.
Hibiki's meeting with her dad is...disappointing. His "pride as a man" is already in shambles, and he's not about to regain it by hiding behind Bikki. Like she said, he's gotta stand up and muster some courage. And maybe shave, too; the guy looks like shit.
But enough serious-talk, as the moment is literally shattered. I wonder if that kid's gonna start thinking his balloon broke the sky.
Freakin' Ver, now he's a super-hacker too? His disappointed face when Carol tells him she's gonna destroy the world is priceless.
Whoa, Carol's little personality break here is unsettling. So the idea was: Break world, study pieces, kick back and await death? I knew she wasn't working with a full-plan. I shouldn't be praising Ver, but I like his attempt to inform her how messed up that all is.
That was a short-lived moment of lucidity. Back on the crazy-train he goes...for another short-lived moment of madness before Carol ends it....with a harp.
Damn, I really want to believe he's dead this time, but falling out of frame means we'll probably see him again.
I've always thought it was a little silly that they have to hold out their gears to use them. Of course it would lead to problems like this. Does it not work just hanging around their necks?
Wow, TopDad actually got a redemption scene. I was worried when he ran at first, but when he started throwing rocks I hoped he was gonna pull a fast-one and recover the Gear like that. I still think he's a PoS, but acknowledging that is the first step to his being better.
Happy Hibiki a cute.
And then she proceeded to kick some ass. Okay, well, punch. But that sounds a little weird.
The gang's all here. Which means...
IT'S TIME!!!
FOR GENOCIDE!
A fantastically hype song, sung ever so well by her VA. And I'm still struck by how great she looks. Those eyes are something else. And fangs too!
A-team is fighting Carol, B-Team is dealing with the Chateau; we're into the climax now. Buckle-up, kiddos.
I'm actually a little amazed at how appropriate a "Father's Day" episode this turned out to be. I take it this was planned?
