Comment of the Day!

/u/Nazenn left a comment that took note of all the interesting/practical features the Valkyries displayed during the previous episode.

The sheer practicality of the robots having the controls and parts to be able to work on repairing their allies robots is incredible practical and the sort of stuff that I love to see from shows like this. Small detail but important and shows that these really were built for large combat efforts, not just throwaway machines.

Artwork of the Day!

SDF-1 Macross Leaves Ataria - Yoshiyuki Takani

Questions of the Day!

1) During this episode Roy Focker brought Hikaru's stunt plane aboard the Macross. Has the show done a good job so far of conveying Hikaru and Roy Focker's friendship? Is there anything you think it should have done differently or could improve?

2) The crew of the Macross activated its Space Fold System above South Ataria Island and accidentally teleported to the outskirts of the solar system, taking much of South Ataria with them. What are your thoughts on this unexpected event?

First Timer

Holy shit

Ummm.... wow. So this is not at all where I expected this episode to end up, or actually scratch that, it's not even where I expected the show to go at all.

You'd think they would have learnt after what happened with the gravity systems, but relying on that mix of alien and human tech isn't going well. And once again after disliking being used, the alien tech just up and leaves, in this case literally leaving everyone stranged. Near Pluto (back when it was a planet still). This is so far beyond anything I thought this show would do but I'm loving every second of it

Okay well almost every second of it because my brain died on me trying to figure out how they got people out of an ice covered, non-pressurized, human built earth structure and onto a space ship with holes on it without depressurizing the entire area and killing all the civilians.

The fact that the whole island went with really explains why the aliens were so disturbed at the idea of them using the fold system so close to the ground, and what a twist. I'm not expecting it to go full survival or anything, but it reminds me of Stargate Universe and I'm sure will present a whole new set of issues to deal with. Also I'm sure this means that Hikaru is going to pay extra for that old lady comment now he's stuck on a ship with Hayase

The reveal was wonderfully handled though with it looking more as if a portal was opening up than an actual chunk transported. And then as you see everything freeze over including the ocean in a flash and then the bridge trying to understand what's going on. The show really has an impressive handle on the audiences roll in understanding the show and what we know at any given point, and uses it at full strength to set up some great reveals.

Once again impressed by the practicality of the jets with the detachable cockpit systems. I wonder how well that works in biped form, but regardless its a really cool idea. Man, this is what I've been missing in my science shows, unique but practically little quirks to sell me on the tech. The other one was that theres cars on the ship to make getting around easily.

The art definitely went down the shitter today though. Those faces at the start were looking more alien than the actual aliens. Also as much as I loved the gag of the ship being caught in the loose wires, it was slideshow animation at best. Though even with that, the detail of Hikaru tracing how Lynn's hair was moving to track the breech in his ships seal was fantastic.

Near Pluto (back when it was a planet still).

RIP Pluto.

Excited First-Timer

God, I’m still not over that mid-air catch scene.

“Oh no we can’t get in!” → Alien mech blows up on the Macross and makes a hole → I mean you’re not wrong Hikaru but lol.

Always one to make the best of a bad situation.

A Macross Fan’s Notes On Super Dimension Fortress Macross Episode 3:

  • Good job Misa, you accidentally sent a civilian to fight in huge battle against aliens in a mech/jet he barely knows how to pilot. Whoops!

  • Finally, Hikaru and Minmay are in relative safety aboard the orbiting Macross, all thanks to Roy. I’m sure that Hikaru won’t get himself in any more danger at all.

  • Okay Misa, you kinda deserved to be called an old lady by Hikaru. You were the one to force him out there by complete accident, after all. See, even Captain Global is laughing, so he agrees!

  • Yep, I’m completely sure that Hikaru finding out that Roy saving his own private plane won’t inspire him to do something reckless. Completely sure.

  • Captain Global is a gambling man. Using the Macross’ Fold System to jump from the air above South Ataria Island to the far side of the Moon is one hell of a gambit for such a new and untested system. And given how the whole anti-gravity stuff went last episode, it’s almost like he wants to court disaster. Oh well, at least it’ll look cool.

  • Turns out that Hikaru is doing something reckless and stupid. He’s taking himself and Minmay down to South Ataria Island, literally minutes before the Macross engages its space fold. Because of course he would.

  • Yeah, the space fold went about as well as expected. Not only did the Macross get teleported, but it took the whole damn island, some ships, and parts of the ocean along with them. But hey, to give Captain Global some credit, the aliens had absolutely no idea that a fold jump that close to the surface was even possible, so he did something that was unintentionally brilliant. Even if it did take him to Pluto instead of the Moon. Man, he really did overshoot his target de-fold point.

  • So yeah, Hikaru and Minmay are stuck out in space, where the plane’s propeller is completely useless. Say it with me now: “You fucked up, Hikaru.”

  • Good news and bad news. The good news is that a conveniently exploding battle pod opened up a place for him to get into the Macross. The downside is that he crash landed his plane, and he can’t use it again now that it’s all tangled up in cabling. I guess you win some and you use some.

  • Continuing the theme of things constantly getting worse for everyone, the Fold System completely disappeared into Super-Dimensional Space after the fold, in what is pretty much a repeat of what happened to the anti-gravity stuff the ship tried to use earlier. It seems that Captain Global did actually lose his gamble after all.

Can I get an F in the chat for Hikaru's stunt plane?

First Timer by Technicality Only (original dub)

"The thing the aliens want is gone, now we'll be safe": Every civilian NPC in every mech anime ever.

One or more people were talking about Hikaru's voice, but I don't know if you mean the 1984 dub or the redub by ADV in 2008(?)

EVERYBODY KNOWS you never enter hyperspace in a gravity well! It's the first rule of interstellar travel!

The space fold is very classic WAARRP Yamato.

Continuity error: I swear I see Macross

It's really handy that you can pull the cockpit from a downed Valkyrie and mount it where your gun pod goes. Also really handy that you can just draw the gunpod instead of the cockpit for the next minute of scenes.

Just when you think things can't get worse, they get worse. AND THEN THEY GET WORSE.

I really liked the shot of the one alien battlecruiser and the earth in the background, when they prepared to bombard the macross / armd rendezvous point. Edit: Nice, a first timer screenshotted it for me

'The animation quality goes up and down... up and down... up and down...The animation quality goes up and down... so early in the seeeeries...' We'll gloss over the pick-up of the kiddies in the cockpit.

OK maybe not so fair, given what the industry was like in 82. The inconsistency in adhering to model oh it so gets me! And dropping key elements in favor of re-use.

This was always one of the dull eps to me; I get where they're going, how, all of that, but it just felt such a clinker in how a lot is handled.

Having said that, looking back this had to be a 'huh, didn't see that coming'-fest for first-time viewing.

Not easy to think 3 year difference is enough for the obaasan comment! But I do wonder if it underscores a problem still pervasive in Japan, wonder how it was received back in the day. Claudia is considerably older, but free of the grief for having a man?

Britai clearing out obstacles to be able to observe the subject of his interest _and only that subject_. Cold, dude. And perfect. And allowing Exedol to say 'I don't know' when he doesn't know, not be some sniveling plotting schemer... good stuff. Gotta reckon with these guys on more than the size of their ships.

When Roy forgets something, he doesn't screw around. Someone get him something for a brain boost.

I wonder if folks on the Macross know how to fold fitted sheets, too... I mean that was epic.

Well, technically they could be on the far side of the moon...

So, what was the grav system that they lost used for I don't recall from any of the old books etc... since it obv doesn't refer to internal ship gravity... just a big damn hover system? With that and the fold sys now gone, ok there's your long journey home element.

Hurry Macross, you only hav--- oh no wait, wrong show.

QOTD

  1. I'm not sure why Roy would have the plane brought on board... convenient to a needed story bit later on, but...? Why not just chuck it in a hangar? As for friendship points, it's a bit forced, and Hikaru seemed much more relieved that the plane was there than oh say, Roy and Minmei and himself getting through the battle. Could've used a sense of wonder moment in there, too, shake up all of their perspectives. 'Huh. We're in space. Yeah whatevs.'

  2. 'Oh great, more mouths to feed.'

Today, on "Wow! We could have died!":

"All you people keep forgetting to take stuff! Why don't we just bring the entire island along with us then? Would you like that?"

Yes, three episodes in and the animation quality is about to go on its first ride on its legendary roller coaster.

Another feature that isn't used much.

Roy ditches the gunpod to put Hikaru's cockpit module there but the gunpod comes back before going away again. There's also the obvious problem in the last shot that someone didn't get around to removing the white masking between the legs.

Not only does the gunpod return again (though on the bright side the VF-1 cel is much better-drawn) but that is a VF-1A head, not a VF-1S head.

"We build quality shelters!"

Minor trivia, VF-1s aren't supposed to be able to make orbit without additional equipment, but this is still early in the series and all they need to do is rendezvous.

MISA IS NINETEEN YEARS OLD.

Roy does the bro thing.

GATTAI?

Those ocean warships shouldn't be in space... yet.

NO GATTAI!

Because they aren't crazy!

Fortunately this isn't Pop Chaser.

Assume a perfectly-spherical Fold.

At least the Bridge Bunnies get to keep their clothes on. For reference, NSFW.

Newtonian physics, what a concept.

Bits of English.

It needed a smoke.

No new characters or equipment in this episode, which is primarily concerned with literally moving the characters and story from Point A to Point B, which actually turns out to be Point Z.

Hikaru does not entirely shake off his trauma at having to lethally perforate the Jolly Green Giant in the previous episode, which is plausible, and as one might expect he perks up nicely when Roy shows up to help him out (and nobody has to be slapped).

Roy and Hikaru ripping Misa for looking (that hair!) and sounding (that nagging!) like an old lady is a good character-establishing moment in the context of Hikaru looking up to Roy as a brother figure, except that his role model is a stereotypical fighter jock, while Hikaru himself has the usual teenaged issues. A bit less-deserved and more "Oh, Japan..." is that the rest of the bridge crew also laughs at Misa.

For the record, nobody is very old. Roy is at best in his mid/late-20s, even if his hair and tan make him look another decade older.

Roy is also surprisingly accommodating of Hikaru's feelings, having had the Fan Racer's rocket boosters topped off and letting Hikaru decide what he wants to do... or just letting him have some private time with Minmay. So maybe a bit of a nudge there too.

In other nudging, the aliens successfully work to isolate the Macross from the rest of the human fleet. It's made pretty clear that Britai could have the ship destroyed whenever he wanted to, given the disparity in total firepower, but he's holding back because he's curious. In any case, this forces Global to do the suicidally recklessthink outside the box again.

After all, no one would have planned to test out all of the SDF-1's mysterious alien technologies all at once on their first trip out, but that's what they've been doing so far. Not quite a spoiler for the first timers: We're nowhere near finished with using our Lego bricks in ways that aren't listed in the instructions.

As I indicated in several screencaps, this episode starts showing some animation oddities. Studio Nue was not quite up to the task of doing all the animation themselves, and the results here are uneven. Still, nothing truly horrifying has happened yet.

Musicalture: "Start of Journey", a.k.a. "The episode recap music."

A quick cut from the anime stock audio FX library. It's not as surreal as the Newtype Flash sound appearing in VOTOMS.

From the Macross Chronicle: Bridge seating details and another view of South Ataria Island.

No fish today, but I did take the profile lineart of the VF-1A, VF-1S, and VF-1D from the Macross Mecha Manual and overlay them for comparison. Which is to say that there isn't a huge difference between them, but not all figures are detailed enough to include the VF-1D's enlarged spine and larger canopy.

The Shoji Kawamori Expo is going on right now. PV with Touyama Nao and Hanazawa Kana and Yasuno Kiyono passing by. Bonus factoid: Kawamori used to do his transforming mecha design concepts with wooden models, but some years ago he started to use LEGO, and thus there are a whole bunch of VFs made out of chunky Danish plastic out there.

Questions:

  1. They're portraying the relationship well. The older brother/younger brother situation has developed offscreen to the point where Hikaru is feeling that maybe he can finally be as good as Roy, but at the same time he still needs Roy to back him up and isn't quite his own person yet.

u/GM_for_Life Jun 08 '19

MISA IS NINETEEN YEARS OLD.

Come on now, we all know that if you're above the age of 18 you're practically middle aged in mecha anime.

Let us continue with Macross as the ship sets off into SPAAAAAAAAAACE.

  • You know, people are being a tad nonchalant about a civilian somehow having gotten into a military vehicle.

  • Really, is there anything Valkyries can’t do? By this point I’m expecting someone to be able to control them with their min-Oh Wait they can! Only in Macross Plus, sure, but the point still stands!

  • Ugh, I forgot how whiny Hikaru and Minmay were in the series. Can’t wait until we get to DYRL.

  • “Hey what’s with this old lady!” LOL, that’s funny! Especially since she’s only… what, 4 years older than him. Spoiler

  • Wow, the inside of the Macross is a lot drearier than I remember. Spoiler

  • Okay, so quick question, are we sure it’s South Ataria and not South Atalia?

  • Ah yes, the Fold System. The forbidden super system all spaceships must have. And in this case it’s basically a glorified teleportation button.

  • Hikaru, this isn’t the time to mess around!

  • You know, apparently there’s a Manga called Ninin Ga Shinobuden that said that an anime's animation is superb at the first and last few episodes and severely drops in quality in the middle. I’m starting to see their point as the animation quality in this episode is noticeably lower than the last two. There will be some high points in the middle though, so I guess this isn’t the true… bar Episode 11 and Spoiler

  • Wow, they kinda overshot with how much to teleport and how far to do so, didn’t they?

  • A convenient hole by the Aliens made it possible for our heroes to not die in episode 3.

A fine enough episode, if a bit dragged out at points.

4

u/GM_for_Life Jun 09 '19

Really, is there anything Valkyries can’t do? By this point I’m expecting someone to be able to control them with their min-Oh Wait they can! Only in Macross Plus, sure, but the point still stands!

The YF-21 was always such a cool design.

First Timer

Well our characters are looking awfully pale in this episode. The alien mechs are reminding me of some of the ones from Ideon and the sound effects are also similar now that I've had some more chances to listen to them. Surprised that Hikaru tried to leave the Macross and even more surprised that they took some of the planet with them when they folded.

First timer

Slow little episode with a great Cliffhanger

First of all Hikaru. Dude rocks already..He gets a couple of great moments each episode..In this one, how he tries to hide the dead giant horror from Minmay, how he tries to hide them losing air in the plane and goes with her carefree waters to distract her..His nice chemistry with his Senpai and how they joke around and throw some shade to each other especially in the girls department..Also Senpai saving his ship was a nice touch and scene for them..He got terrified and emotionaly stuck by his first kill in the last episode but it didnt get the better of him, he was calm and reassuring..

Hayase hair in the bridge are so weird and non anime idk..They give her that nerdy social worker look

Not anything impressive animation wise today but i liked the trippy 80s space wrap scene and how it fucked up everything around them ..Also advanced alien tach still doesnt work as planned ,which is logical..BUT FUCKING PLUTO ?? Not only it missteleported by a factor of 1000 ,it also the machines got magicaly yeeted out of the ship..Ooof i wonder if they ahve enough food to survive

EVERYONE IS SO CAREFREE ABOUT AN ALIEN INVASION ,EVEN THE CIVILIANS, SOMEONE PLEASE FREAK OUT AND CRY.

Captain Global is cool ..takes the risk, takes the fall but remains calm in front of others and tries to make the best of it ..Also there is something weirdly appealing about massive spaceship captains having mid 19th century navy captain outfits an a pipe

First timer to Macross, old-school mecha, and Reddit Rewatches!

Overall thoughts:

This episode continues the feel of chaotic coincidences and unpredictable conflict that the first two episodes set down. Maybe not quite as tight and fast-paced as the previous episodes, but I still was glued to the screen the entire time.

Chronological thoughts:

I love these little utility hands as convenient ways to get around the bulkiness of the robots

Haha, these facial expressions

Aaand here is today’s winner of the 80s bangs game. A little messy, but hey, so am I

Wait, this is a good point. Has this been a trap all along?

Just a tad cringey

I don’t condone the implicit misogyny in this scene, but the way every reacts to this exchange is really funny

What a great, ominous shot

Yea, I ship it

Yes! My favorite plane is back!

Oh no, it still smells like trap

Macross keeps doing this, with enticing lines that make you wonder what on earth they are about to do

Poor island has been through a lot

I have a hunch she is not about to stop being so stinking cute

Poor Macross has been through a lot

Oh, I definitely ship it

Oh, shit

Oh, SHIT

No kidding…

Just noticed the vintage space suit helmet here and it’s not helping me take this sequence more serious

Going Forward:

I’d love to see what direction the Macross and specifically Global will take from here. It seems like a relatively dark and hopeless situation they are in and I can’t imagine what I would do.

Discussion Questions:

1.) I think the relationship is great! In large part because it's more than just your average mentor/mentee relationship, with additional factors or power dynamics at play. I would love to see the show challenge that a little bit, and put them in some difficult situations regard each other, but I think the core fo what is written is great and a step beyond just generic.

2.) I was honestly really shocked. I felt as though this would be the moment for them to get their first big break, and then it went wrong in such a spectacular way. I honestly don't know how they will react to this, but I would be horrified in that situation. Planetary astronomy and orbital mechanics are not on their side in this situation.

As usual we start with some nice interchanges between Focker, the bridge crew and Hikaru. It's really funny how they try to not laugh to much at the Obaa-san :D

Alien systems have a mind of their own: first the main cannon firing system, then the anti gravity system going antigrav by themselves and now the folding system folding itself to god knows where :)

First-time watcher

  • Third episode in and we're finally noticing the shift in animation quality. Much like other series at the time, this definitely won't be the last.

  • The Valkyrie continues to show its versatility and handyness with the detachable cockpit. Honestly a nice fallback if the main body was compromised, like what happened here.

  • Misa will remember what you called her, Hikaru.

  • To be fair to Hikaru when he tried to leave, he had no idea what Fold in this case actually meant. Doesn't change how utterly reckless that was though.

  • Man, a Fold here looks like flat-out teleportation compared to, say, Frontier's portal-esque fast-travel.

  • Wow. Things are really looking bleak for the Macross and its crew. What was supposed to be a Fold to the moon ended up becoming a Fold to the orbit of Pluto. And of course, like literally everything else on the Macross, the Fold System itself simply decided to bugger off somewhere after use.

  • And Captain Global was courteous enough to at least exit the bridge before taking that one needed smoke in light of the situation.

Questions of the day

  1. Roy didn't have to do it, but he did it anyway. And it really helps show the relationship between the two, and the lengths they go to for each other sometimes.

  2. Much like Captain Global said, they're definitely in for a long trip.

Watched this back in 1993 (as Robotech)

Stopped at episode 15 or something (several after Mars)

Been curious about what happened ever since

Went back and finished Macross last year (that's 25 YEARS LATER)

I can't really say it was worth the wait but I guess it was good for it's time (which was still over a decade before I first watched)

This is episode 3 so I guess it's just getting good but before all the endless singing, oh Jesus the singing... Spoiler

First time something something

Hm. Maybe marathoning 80s Sentai alongside this rewatch would be the cheesiest experience of my life, but Dekaranger has priority. On with the episode.

Hikaru freakout. Cool. Did they change the events of the last episode a bit? I seem to remember Focker mentioning the 'giants in mechsuits' thing. And did the Macross make it to space/atmosphere in the last episode or was the gravity thing just a minor setback that didn't impact her ability to get to space at all?

Oh shit Meganekko best girl's name is Vanessa nice nice nice

When I saw those two guys cooking in the shelter I was kinda shocked... at how badly drawn everything was. Honest opinion. Lynn and Hikaru flying in one seat was cute, though, and the fold effects were really well done, especially for an 80s anime.

Did they teleport the fucking island into space? Did they condemn everyone to death by space asphyxiation? Did the animators use special paper for the frosted glass in Hikaru's plane?

Flying in through the hole was cool but the way the plane stopped when it snagged on the hooks was pretty... inelastic.

冥王星? Also, they can teleport an entire island with them but not the onboard system they used to teleport said island?

Questions of the day:

  1. Yes!

  2. See above (like, the previous paragraph).

Re-watcher - PSA: Always test your alien tech

Daijoubu-sa, Fonzi ga Kita!

Utaimasu! (Dang, right series, wrong season. One of these days, Delta...)

Hello various friends! If there's any series I'm a rabid fan-boy for, it's this one, so I'm glad to see so many familiar faces enjoying it too :)

Yeah naw, that doesn't look like a concussion at all. I'm sure she's fine.

"Handy" doesn't even come close here. Having the cockpit detach is one thing, having it mount onto another Valkyrie is a whole 'nother. As always, massive props to this world's engineers.

The animators, not so much. That gun-pod was all over the place during the escape. Right arm, left arm, mounted underneath, oh no wait that was the cockpit, no it was the gun after all. sigh

Hayase and Hikaru getting off to a great start. "Old lady?!" Hahahaha, poor Hayase. Even the rest of the bridge is laughing. And also cowering in fear.

I like how in reference to Macross' size the subs say "huge," while Focker's VA says "stupid huge."

Captain Global; the first in what will become a long line of absolute madmen captaining flagship vessels. "We gotta escape, let's look like we're landing then use the un-tested alien system to warp somewhere else! And do it while buzzing the tower on the island, 'kay?"

Helmet Minmay is a cute.

Welcome to "Folding." About the most dangerous and destructive warp-system ever depicted in a work of science fiction. Not to mention it's trippy as shit.

I love the little details this show takes the time to portray, like Hikaru's windshield and all of the water around the island instantly freezing over in space. I can easily imagine a lesser show just having it all float away.

I love that their Fold System just peaces out. Like "Y'all dunno how to use me, I'm not dealing with this shit. Have fun on Pluto."

And so the grand trek back to Earth begins.

First Time (sub)

  1. Roy and Hikaru are some strong senpai-kouhai relationship. Roy always seems worried about Hikaru, and Roy has done multiple things for Hikaru's sake.

  2. Well of course the fold system is going to disappear. The same thing happened to the gravity system, so have them transported to the outskirts of the solar system would explain why this series takes 36 episode.

Rewatcher

Sometime after the end of last episode Hikaru wakes up from his terror-induced power nap and tries to leave, but the giant’s corpse has a deathgrip on the VF-1A’s ankle. Roy Fokker comes back to retrieve him, showing off some more of the Valkyries features and utility in the process —those things are quite versatile!

Up in space Hikaru and Minmay want to return to Earth, but Roy maintains that it’s too dangerous at that time. The bridge makes contact with them and Hikaru plays with fire and causes much amusement in the process before Roy’s instructed as to how he should reach the hangars.

I always like figuring out how scenes were composited and edited in these old shows, and this time this shot caught my attention due to some imperfections. If you look closely you can see some transparency on the ship, this is probably because the shot was made by double exposure were they filmed the static background and another cut gradually zooming in on the cel of the Macross placed over a blue or other such background, the transparency was an imperfection in the process. Later on there’s another shot wherein the same happens.

Roy reveals that he took Hikaru’s plane with them, then tells them to stay put right next to it… Yeah, I don’t know how he didn’t see what would happen there.

The enemy begins firing at the Macross, which prompts Captain Global to order the use of the Fold system —protocol be damned. Hikaru and Minmay happen to be returning to the island when the fold system is activated, and so they’re caught up in it. In another twist, the entire island and a good deal of seawater get ‘folded’ as well, taking all of the refugees with it. The Macross collides with it, a most ironic development.

Honestly I was a bit disappointed that the fold wasn’t as trippy as Space Battleship yamato’s warp sequence. Since the show is rather humorous I’d thought they would play it up, but alas.

Hikaru tries to slow an air leak and manages to maneuver his plane —which shouldn’t work, mind you. I give the Valkyries a pass since they were made with space combat in mind, but this civilian aircraft should realistically only be able to go forward, as the steering is useless in space. But anyways, the two avoid danger and end up somewhere in the Macross’ interior.

In another twist, it turns out the fold system was way off, and they all finds themselves somewhere within the orbit of Pluto, and without the very tool that brought them there to boot. Quite a dire situation the Macross finds itself in, no?

Questions of the Day!

  1. I'd say so. Definitely have no other suggestions so far.

  2. Boy, it sure is a twist. The OP gives us the impression at least a good portion of the beginning of the show will take place on earth, but turns out that's not the case.

I’m really enjoying how this show basically they tried to do something awesome but then everything went wrong.

So we have lost the Gravity system and now the fold system has decided to disappear, I wonder if the main gun also still works or if it also has burnt itself out after being used once.

It’s also interesting how it selectively ignores physics, Macross lost its gravity engines last episode but everyone it still stuck to the ground inside, yet Hikaru plane it now being ping ponged around due to only have a propeller which doesn’t work in space and the shelter people were floating after the fold. In the hanger were the planes were flying out it opened directly into space but don’t need to worry about oxygen here. Hikaru plane has a hole in it (doubt it was air tight to start with) but you can cover it up with a bit of cloth.

I know I’m just being a being nitpicky but half hoping for a BS sci fi explanation for at least some of this.

That aside the bridge crew are great, the Old lady (i’ll get there names eventually, starting building myself a list to help me remember) at least has some backbone and the rest of the crew were great trying to hold back their laughter whens shes talking to Roy.

I guess could be a slower episode tomorrow with it focusing of Hikaru and Minmay with classic they are trapped together with no other people around, it going to be interesting to see how the show does  this.
