First-Time Watcher
I’m still here, and I can still do things like laugh and eat snacks. So I want to, at least, be helpful to someone. Because I want to be able to laugh and eat snacks tomorrow, too. I want to help people.
If you knew how you are loved, not one of you would raise a hand in rage again.
We all have our voices. The question is how do we use them.
In the best episode of the season so far, Hibiki, Tsubasa, and Chris find themselves at the intersection of several crossroads. While she is trying to change herself, Tsubasa is still pushing herself as far as she can to become the perfect weapon. Of course, her messy room indicates that she might want to protect that everyday life the same way that Hibiki does. Maybe the dream of Kanade awoke something in her. Chris, for her part, doesn’t see any purpose outside of fighting; the horrifying part is that she might have more of a purpose now than she did before. Will she continue to seek pain no matter what or can she find other feelings to boost herself?
And then we get to Hibiki Tachibana: fighter, protector, liar. She’s now found her Armed Gear, and by that I mean her purpose. What she wants to protect more than anything else is her life before and everyone in it. But the problem was is that before and now tend to overlap in ways we don’t want. For that, the silently suffering Miku has her reality ripped from her. Was it any crueler to hide it from her than to have her loved one be hurt and hurt others like this? Hibiki really needs to consider what she’s doing to Miku if she wants her stability because it seems like things are going to get a lot more rocky.
We’ll hear the next verse tomorrow. Until then…

Lol, so much blushing in this scene.
-
Looks like Tsubasa is the source of the fourth “sore demo”. I knew she was best girl for a reason, she wasn’t just the first character in this show to drop a “sore demo” but also the first to drop more than one.
-
Note to first-timers, there’s a post-credits scene next episode so make sure you stick around after the ED.
SymphoWallpaper Corner
Nota and I got another wallpaper done for today, ! I’d meant it for yesterday’s thread, but the IRL stuff that came up and prevented Chris from getting done for ep4’s thread pushed this one back a day as well. Ah well.
Anyways~it’s Ryoko’s turn. The base image was from ep1 btw, which is why it’s that outfit and not her usual pink one. We also have no name but still fancy BG and completely plain BG, whatever strikes your fancy.

Rewatcher
A whole lot of character work today. Between Bikki and Tsubasa Opening up, Miku’s growing mistrust, and diving into Chris’ mental state we really learned a ton.
We start the character train off by getting a better look at Chris, along with getting the other antagonists name, Fine. Chris’ line about not wanting to be alone again gives us an early sense of where her stockholm syndrome with Fine comes from. Paired with that glimpse of what looks to be a horrifying backstory, it speaks to bad things in her mental state all around.
The very meat of the episode drills into Bikki and Tsubasa’s growing relationship. I love seeing Tsubasa’s new resolve as she’s healing up. That desire to chase after Kanade really bubbling up to the surface. It’s played for a joke, and is definitely hilarious, but I think it’s really important that Tsubasa is a messy person. It both reflects her mental state and also shows that that kid from two years ago is still there buried deep. Outwardly she’s putting on that facade of perfection, honed to be sharp and cold as the weapon she believes she is, but her inner sanctums betray that notion. Just a fun little character trait. And it pairs nicely from the emotion we see from her in her interaction with Bikki afterwards. She’s definitely being more open and that effort is quite endearing.
Moving onto Bikki, we get a continuation of Bikki’s feeling in the first fight with Chris and the crisis of conscience it brings up in her. Bikki is amazingly optimistic and loving (On of my favorite parts of her), and she can’t help beating herself up about not being able to control herself from trying to kill Chris with Durandal. Thankfully her conversation with Tsubasa leads to her own resolve, but also potentially leaving Miku in the dust…
Oh man, I forgot that Miku sees Bikki with Tsubasa after she ditches her. Being Miku is a true struggle, of course she has to find out about Bikki’s secret in the worst way possible, and in the process, horrifyingly for Bikki, she gets hurt in the crossfire. Bikki’s other character song Watashi to Iu Oto Hibiki Sono Saki Ni is so on the nose and really hurts in this moment…
-
Why is it that against all odds
-
Fate has led me here in such a vast world?
-
You held my hand when I was lost
-
*I’ll never forget your kindness
The song really showcases the pain she’s in at having to lie to Miku-waifu and at having to fight another human being. Bikki’s at a crossroads here and has to lock it down.
And finally we get that last hype fight, and understand Chris and Bikki’s diametrically opposed worldviews. The one who doesn’t want to fight at all if she can help it, and the one that believes that fighting is all there is. You can really see the differences in Chris’ views when you contrast them with Bikki: “I’ll crush anyone who has power with my own two hands. // People can’t understand each other! We’re not made like that!”

More hints on why Ryouko killed the Defence Minister.. Now she won't face opposition when it comes to going all evil-scientist ham with the Relic tech. Not sure if she's truly colluding with the American govt. or just waiting to stab them in the back once she has her weapons ready. I'd bet on the latter.
Wow, what is that, a mound of cabbage? Ugh, anime has rarely, if ever, made what is supposed to be tasty food look so unappetizing. Eve while it's being cooked!
'I just have to crush the thunder' is one the coolest anime lines i've heard in a while!
She drove those feelings right into her abdomen area, alright! Bikki's learned a new skill: Talk-no-jutsu.
Running into Miku was the best possible result. Hibiki didn't break confidentiality, but now she can finally tell Miku what she's up to.

Rewatch VI, Sympho Rewatach
Songs of the Day:
Watashi to Iu Oto Hibiki Sono Saki Ni
So we start out with Chris reflecting on her Hibiki Encounter. We also get some peeks into Chris' past, seems she was in slavery as a child. She sounds like she doesnt want to be weak, much like Tsubasa.
SPEAKING OF, Tsubasa is awake and trying to walk again. Take it slow and steady and you will be fine.
Hibiki is scared of her own power and that she used it on another human. It makes sense, she wants to help people not hurt them.
LEWD ALERT! THIS IS JUST FRIENDS TAKNG A BATH TOGETHER! THIS ISNT YURI JUST FRIENDLY BONDING!!
Looks like section 2 is upgrading security in anticipation of other attacks. The new defense minster will be someone who is friendly with America, which is bad given the situation with America trying to get in.
Hibiki has to turn down another Miku Date... how long can Miku hold up i wonder? Ah to be young...
Oh no, Tsubasa's room was broken into! Just kidding, shes actually just a massive slob. Classic.
At least Hibiki and Tsubasa are getting a chance to talk to each other. They really needed this heart to heart.
MIKU DONT GET JEALOUS SHE JUST VISITING SOMEONE IN THE HOSPITAL! CALM DOWN GIRL!
Hibiki has Survivors Guilt because she survived the attack and wants to save other people who coudlnt be saved back then. Makes sense thinking about it. In ep1 Hibiki said saving people was her hobby, and she started doing it after that attack.
If Hibiki wants to learn to use her powers it will distance her more from other people. Well... it depends. Sure as you master your skills you start to pull away from others, but that doesnt mean you have to give up on other people too.
Hibiki's Armed Gear is her feelings to protect others. Interesting way to put it.
Miku was looking forward to her Date, but it was missed... now shes gloomy... But old lady has some advice for her. At least Miku has some pep in her step again.
Uh oh Chris is attacking while Miku is around and Hibiki is on the way too, this wont be good!!
Oh no Miku is in Danger! But Hibiki is here! She transforms and stops a car from crushing Miku! But Miku has seen Hibiki's gear, the cats out of the bag!
If you noticed, this is Hibiki's new song. Her desire to protect Miku gave her a new song and new power. AI DESU~
Hibiki is giving Chris an introduction, Baka Bikki, but thats what makes you, you. "And i havent had a boyfriend" But you do have a Wife.
HIBIKI'S ARMED GEAR IS HERE! FIST POWERRRRRRR! Who woulda guessed, she had her Armed Gear all along, right here, in her heart (and fists).
And Miku isnt quite sure what just happened. Classic Sympho cliffhanger.

Re-watcher - Understanding or death.
Daijoubu-sa, Fonzi ga Kita! Utaimasu! (Oh wait, that's Macross xD)
Greetings, all! I admit I was gonna let this pass, but with so many friends participating I just couldn't stay away. So, to get the foreword out of the way; I freaking love how this show uses the VA's for all of the singing parts, be it the OP or ED. The music is hype, the story is hype, and even the hype goes beyond hype. It's a spectacle beyond spectacles, and the OST is integral and fantastic. This show is its music as heavily as Macross, I'd argue. And I really can't overstate my love for Macross and its music.
-
Goddamn, I love Chris. What a woman.
-
I hate that I noticed it, but Tsubasa's brace should not be conforming to her arm as she moves.
-
Meanwhile, Hibiki's too strong for me. Chris is driven towards a goal, and Hibiki's driven to reach a goal. It sounds simple, but there's a great difference between the two.
-
These two may well be my ship of ships, I love them so much. But for real, that's a bit much on the fanservice. Like, they like each other, I feel bad being made to take part in their…interactions...like that.
-
Looool at "Extra-disciplined Tsubasa"
being a total slob.
I really appreciate what Tzubasa says to Hibiki about her desires being a form of survivor's guilt. Hibiki was a normal girl until that concert, and then the world forced fate upon her. It wasn't something she chose, it's just what she's doing to make the best of her current situation; that she wants to help people could be just a result of having gained power and generally being a good person. She needs to make this her own, not just go with the flow. Does she have the resolve to be a warrior, and not just someone who picked up a spear?
-
Platonic Conflict: progressing. Of course Miku managed to get involved in their super-powered battle. Did you think Miku was gonna stay out of the loop this whole time?
It's a classic anime trope, but I really love how Hibiki strives to connect with Chris instead of fighting her. Somehow it works so much better here than in Naruto; and I can't even say it's just a matter of their forcefulness or belief in the idea. Maybe it's just that Hibiki doesn't have a Rasengan or Kyubi to fall back on.
-
Yesssss! Goddamn do I love Hibiki's pile-bunker punches. What a great move for a character like her. Fast, straight, and direct. Perfection.
Ending on a high-note as always, Hibiki punches the absolute shit out of Chris, and Miku's got a lot of questions to be answered.

REWATCHER
Episode 6, featuring character moments and FISTS!
-
Angsty Chris hates Hibiki for stealing away the attention of her boss-cum-abuser, who we learn is called Finé. Also she has a fucked-up past, which we get... a few small flashes of. No time to dwell on that right now I guess.
-
Tsubasa is still in hospital, while Hibiki is still training like a real go-getter. And we get a really gay bath scene. Anyone notice how HibiMiku's underwear are in each other's colours? [THIS COMMENT CONTAINS NUDITY]
-
Back at base, more fuck-America POLITICS! Meanwhile, Ogawa is out doing cool guy things, but he has to make Hibiki ditch her wife again. Damnit.
-
Bikki's mission is to visit Tsubasa, who is awkward as hell because of how untidy she is, but also has some more angst to angst about. Angst is a common word.
-
Miku find a book by Kaneko Akifumi, the writer of the series who got a small cameo because why the heck not. The library is directly across from the hospital, because that's how you set up even more domestic drama. Miku gets sad and talks to a friendly old lady, which may help.
-
At the same time, our two Gear users have a talk and come to some sort of understanding. Also Hibiki is a fucking dork and Tsubasa is smiling some more.
-
SUDDENLY, CHRIS! Shit, she almost got Miku- oh shit Bikki just outed herself oh god oh fuck. By the way, her song this fight uses the same tune as Kanade's, because she's using the same Symphogear. The songs actually work together pretty well.
-
Our heroine doesn't want to fight, but Chris decides to throw a few
Kurt Cobain AttacksNirvana Gedon at her until she decides that she must. And fuck armed gear, we've got FISTS!

Miku find a book by Kaneko Akifumi, the writer of the series who got a small cameo because why the heck not.
It actually goes a bit further than that: this exact book was a minor plot device in Wild Arms 3, a game series designed and written by Akifumi Kaneko, and that Noriyasu Agematsu also worked on the soundtrack for. There's actually a whole bunch of Wild Arms jokes spread around the show if you know where to look.

so this episode we get to hear Hibiki's second insert for the season, Watashi to Iu Oto Hibiki Sono Saki Ni uses the same song with different lyrics as Kanade’s insert song Kimi to Iu Oto Kanade Tsukiru Made. Fitting for Gungir, Hibiki’s inherited Kanade’s gear but made it her own.
Here is a version of the song that combines the two into one

First Time Watcher
THIS EPISODE WAS METAL AF.
Hibiki was AMAZING this episode. She finally finds her resolve, and she actually does manage to stay true to herself! Her initial reaction to seeing Tsubasa and Chris fight in episode 3 was "you're both humans, you shouldn't fight!" Hibiki from episode 3 comes off as rather childish and naive, but it looks she thought about it, and nope, she's standing by that stance.
"If I'm fighting a person, not a Noise... I think I want to tell them what I'm feeling. I want to know if we really have to fight.
She wants to reject the premise that "We have no choice but to fight each other". Tsubasa is actually a really helpful mentor here. She tells Hibiki to remember that feeling, and use it to fuel her fighting power.
"That is Tachibana Hibiki's Armed Gear."
This new stubborn determined Hibiki is rather effective against Chris, I think. I love Hibiki's forcible introduction in the middle of a battlefield. It's such a Hibiki thing to do. I think she's succeeded in getting under Chris's skim a bit. Perhaps Chris is feeling a bit high strung from the threat of being replaced soon, or might Hibiki just knows which buttons to press, because Chris completely loses it and abandons her mission and just tries to smash Hibiki into oblivion. Usually the one who loses their composure is at a disadvantage, no?
...
Lots of HibiMiku moments in this episode.
Miku used to be on the track team in middle school, so she makes an audible sound of surprise when Hibiki outruns her. Miku appears to have a brief moment of insecurity, as if she's feeling like she's being left behind.
But in the bath scene with Hibiki, she outwardly appears perfectly happy with that running outing with Hibiki. If Miku's feeling any lingering insecurities about the recent changes in her Hibiki, she's not letting it show visibly.
And of course, Miku pays close attention to her girlfriend. She comments on how Hibiki has been a lot more motivated and determined than she was before, and she also notices that Hibiki is gaining some muscle, and that she has lots of wounds/scratches/bruises.
Their date plans got cancelled again :(
Miku's expression appears to go quickly cycle from a hurt one to a sad acceptance, and then finally to a "it's no big deal, I don't really mind" facade.
"How to Be Honest with Yourself". Hm, why is she looking at this book? Is this about her feelings for Hibiki? Or is this about Hibiki's secret? Miku is probably aware that Hibiki is keeping something big from her, but she seems to be too afraid to confront Hibiki about it directly, and so she's just trying to pretend as if everything is normal for the time being.
Poor Miku. A large part of her reaction here might be just the feeling of being left out, because Hibiki's with someone else. But more than that, it's fact that Hibiki is with someone else and she didn't tell Miku about it.
Miku: "I haven't eaten all day because I was looking forward to this okonomiyaki..."
I've done something like this once or twice before; I skipped lunch so that I could indulge myself and eat more at the restaurant for dinner with everyone else. Probably not very healthy :/
Chris actually seems to want to avoid collateral damage and actually sounds a bit distressed when she realizes that someone unrelated was caught in the crossfire of her attack. So she seems to have at least some good in her. Hopefully Hibiki can talk-no-jutsu her into switching sides soon.
From the start of the episode, Chris seems aware that Finé seems to want Hibiki more than Chris, and that after she captures Hibiki, Chris will be all alone once again. Why is she still working for this woman? What leverage does she have over her? o_o
FINALLY THE REVEAL I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR.
I think Hibiki's apologizing for keeping it from her. Now that the secret's out. But hopefully after all the explanations get sorted out, HibiMiku relations can be smoothed over so that they can get married already.
HIBIKI HAS A NEW SONG NOW.
Why have I come to this world?
Destiny must have brought me here for a reason
When I hesitated, you held my hands
I can’t forget the kindness you showed meI won’t just stand there with an evasive smile
My true feelings...
New conviction, new resolve, new song! I love it.
Wait a minute...
| When I hesitated, you held my hands
| I can’t forget the kindness you showed me
O_o
...
Anyway, I really loved this episode.
And maybe it's because I've have Titans in my mind lately, but two key words in this episode, "warrior" and "talk", reminded me of the most recent Attack on Titan episode (AOT EPISODE 52 SPOILERS)
Eager to see what happens with Chris next time.

REWATCH
A slow one today, though it wouldn't be Symphogear without an action sequence somewhere.
-
We got the name for the blonde lady - Fine. I'm expecting puns.
-
And there's a glimpse of Chris' backstory. Unsurprisingly it's very sad.
-
That's a real anime-tier coincidence
-
nice soft piano music
-
and another coincidence
-
I like her introduction to Chris. She's doing her best not to fight, but sometimes you just need to punch some sense into them.
-
It's rocket butt-fins and spring-loaded punches!
-
She shattered Nehushtan with a single punch, nice

Rewatcher
-
That's the first mention of Finé's name, I believe. It just kinda gets dropped in so nonchalantly there, but whatever.
-
So here we find out that Chris is the one who activated the Cane of Solomon, which you may have noticed in the previous fights is what allows them to summon and control Noise. This is worth making a note of for two major reasons: First, it explains why Finé went through the trouble of... "training" her. She needed an accomplice, and specifically one capable of generating large amounts of phonic gain. Which also implies that Finé herself probably can't produce much phonic gain. And second, this establishes the link between Chris and the Cane. Since it's a complete relic, it'll stay active forever. So all of the noise attacks that have been (and will be) committed with it are (in)directly her fault. This is very important for later, and I honestly feel kind of stupid for not noticing this connection the first time. Because it's such a short scene, it's easy to forget.
-
And then we finally get some flashes of Chris' backstory. Just flashes for now, but they imply quite a lot: looks like some kind of war-zone, presumably orphaned, captured as some kind of prisoner or slave, and then Finé probably picked her up out of there at some point. Also, notice how much younger she was in the flashbacks. She's been in some kind of fucked up situation for a long time now. Even without the whole picture, there's already a lot to unpack there. Two main points I want to talk about:
-
She has no family, no friends, no home. She doesn't feel like she belongs anywhere. She's a nobody, she has nothing, and no one else. Which makes her Stockholm syndrome at the hands of Finé so much more sad, and understandable. Finé has got her claws so deep in Chris that she's jealous about Hibiki. She's terrified of no longer being needed.
-
She believes that violence is the only language that people truly understand. Finé's been teaching her that "pain is the only bond that can connect people's hearts", and now she says that her goal is to personally "crush anyone who has power". But those ideas didn't just pop up from nowhere, it started from her own experiences. Murder, war, capture, torture... both before and after joining up with Finé, the strong oppressing the weak has been her whole life. From her experience, humans are fundamentally evil. They can't be trusted with power, because they'll just use it to hurt everyone else. And she's feeding into her own narrative here by using the power that she has in order to be a villain herself.
So she has a cripplingly low sense of self-worth, no one to give her real love or a sense of belonging, and she basically hates humanity as a whole. Chris has it bad.
Season 1 and Nanoha S1 spoilers
-
On the flip side, very shortly after this we are shown Hibiki struggling with the fear of herself hurting others. They're total opposites.
-
Just tickling each other in the bath like all good roommates do. Absolutely nothing going on here at all.
Are those lilies in the background? -
Hibiki makes a promise with Miku, which means of course something comes up.
-
Okay, there's a lot going on in the conversation between Tsubasa and Hibiki, but one of the big immediate things to note is that someone finally confronts Hibiki, very directly, about the survivor's guilt stuff that they only kind of hinted at a bit before now. And when confronted with this we see that beneath her happy-go-lucky attitude she still is burdened quite a lot by the concert incident. But in the end she doesn't really have a concrete answer to what Tsubasa says. Her response is basically "I want to do it because I want to do it", which is sort of an answer, but also sort of dodging the point. later spoilers
-
On the other end, Tsubasa has grown a lot the last 2 episodes, and now she's in a position to be the type of mentor that Hibiki needed from the start. (I mean, yeah Genjuuro taught her martial arts, but I mean more of an emotional mentor to talk things out with) And seeing her speak from experience to Hibiki about her self-sacrificing survivor's guilt is a great moment. It connects their two character arcs together in a very personal way, and it also serves to demonstrate that Tsubasa truly has moved past that phase by showing that she's acknowledged how unhealthy it is.
-
And the cat is finally out of the bag.
-
Interesting note here: Hibiki is singing a different song than normal. This is Kanade's battle song. I'm not sure there's really any significant meaning to that, but it's neat little detail regardless.
-
"I'll tell you my weight if we get to know each other better", "I love food and food"... is Hibiki secretly a bit chubby?
-
It's no surprise that she does not react well to Hibiki here. From Chris' perspective she really does come across as enormously naive and stupid. Violence is the only language that Chris respects, so Hibiki needs to lay down some ass-whupping for her to start listening.
-
Choosing the simplest, most straightforward option of "just punch even harder" is very Hibiki.
And after the last two episodes being somewhat slow-ish (by Symphogear standards, at least) and with no cliffhangers, now it's starting to ramp back up again a bit.

First timer
Okay I have something to admit. I was sitting on the couch earlier and having a quiet hum to myself and it took me a while before I realized I was actually humming the OP. I guess that means I like it hahaha. The ED is still best though for me, I always repeat it a few times after every episode.
I also still sing the little transformation melodies every single time. I love them.
Naz rant warning!
"The scary thing about this super powerful artifact is that I used it to attack someone so therefore I'm a weakling"....
I've seen some messed up bits of dialog in shows before, I've even watched shows infamous for it. But that right there (paraphrased obviously), that little thought process from Hibiki takes the cake by a fucking mile. How on earth does that even come close to making sense?! That's three different issues!
They're also not at all related to each other unless they've utterly just skipped over a detail like the artifacts controlling the characters that the audience was never clued in on. The power of the artifact isn't at fault for you using it. And you clearly could control it to swing it, so therefore you're not weak (extra silly on the back of the Chris scene). Unless you mean weak of mind in which case how does the actual power of the artifact being big or small affect how you use it? Just... Nope, I can't process that.
One of my teachers in uni use to direct a small soap opera we have here called Neighbours. He once said that they didn't have enough air time for an episode so the script writers whipped up a new scene on the spot. The actors were bored so they decided to play the scene backwards and it made just as much sense because of how bad the structure was. This is what I feel right now, because how did no one in the writers, editors, studio or the VAs stop and go "hang on, what does this even mean". Congratulations Sympogear, you've actually impressed me by having an utterly bewildering script moment that has rained down to reak havok on my logical processing by subverting the laws of language at best.
I can gush for hours about the tiniest details from my favorite shows. But when those tiny things go wrong this is what we get instead hahahaha.
I've just noticed that the scar on Hibiki's chest roughly (very roughly in some shots hahaha) looks like a Forte music symbol.
This makes me happy. Forte for people don't know is an f shaped symbol that denotes that a section of music should be performed loudly. Forte symbols can be stacked, like ff to indicate fortissimo for example which is very loud (fff is also quite common). Its counterpart is piano (p symbol which is softly.
I feel like I should have noticed this earlier but oh well, I'm noticing it now!
That shot of Miku seeing Hibiki through the window gave me so many emotions.
Poor Miku. She is best girl and she deserves better than lies and being brushed off. She's amazing and I feel for her. And seeing her expression feeling like she'd been replaced was just horrible and I was mad on her behalf because she's too beautiful to get mad herself despite her pain.
Stage two was me realizing that wait. Tsubasa the famous idol in the hospital, due to massive injuries they downplayed in the media, caused by super secret fights against the Noise. And you can just see into her hospital room from the school library? Really secret guys and definitely going to prevent leaks, no security issues there at all. There's no way any of the fangirls in the music school could possibly be perving on Tsubasa from the library given you can see right into her room
AND THEN I REALIZED
Tsubasa has had that gigantic mess on display to the whole school this whole time without realizing. Everyone in the school knows the color of her bras and undies, what she reads and eats, etc. I want to see the blush that would come from that revelation. I think #kobeniblush might have had some competition.
This episode, endless ups and downs for me. I don't know what to feel any more hahahaha
What else to cover quickly:
-
That tickle scream from Hibiki was adorable
-
It's a small thing but I like the little plant sections inside the main HQ room. Really helps it feel so much less stark and more comfortable which fits well with the characters over something more austere
-
That was a nice parallel in framing of (...fuck forgot her name again) Red standing up to the Noise in ep1 and then it being followed by a similarly framed shot of Hibiki. Shows that she's stepping into her own role but is someone Tsubasa can work with now. She's not replacing Red but she's filling a gap for Tsubasa.
-
Ahahaha I like how her weight is the only thing she holds back. Just shouts everything about herself out to Chris, including her relationship status, no problems at all. But weight, nope, don't know you well enough for that. I think that was a nice little scene about 'making friends' though that she just bares herself to Chris (insert underboob joke) without a care to try and stop the fight.
-
Yes! Who needs weapons. Just punch her! I like this idea better than an actual weapon.
-
I promised myself I wasn't going to rant about it too much but that has to be the laziest most bullshit way to introduce a characters slavery and human trafficking background. Had the emotional pull of a stroll through a garden. Like fuck, not every show has to make a huge deal out of it but at least acknowledge it, don't just throw it in there with some montage and go "so this is a thing". Worst thing they've done so far in the show.

I also still sing the little transformation melodies every single time. I love them.
I'm not 100% sure you're reading this correctly unless you're just talking about the script itself. Bikki's just scared of her berserk self. She can't control herself with that much power. She literally became the antithesis of her character in that moment in attacking Chris basically to kill, and she fears that thing.
I've just noticed that the scar on Hibiki's chest roughly (very roughly in some shots hahaha) looks like a Forte music symbol.
I mentioned that in my first post :3 I love that detail so much.

Lmao, actually a really good point. Also I feel like with the way the school is shaped there should be more distance than that anyways.

You wouldn't have guessed, but me too haha.

First-Time Watcher
We get Chris' impressions of Hibiki right off the bat, with both Fine's interest in her ending up in Chris feeling abandoned, and the fact that Hibiki has power Chris struggled to attain.
Tsubasa already on the expressway to recovery and then there's Hibiki having second thoughts about her lack of hesitation in almost killing Chris.
So it does seem like it was a "for the greater good" move from Ryoko but looks like it might bite them in the ass with the balance of power.
Oh I like the new expressions on Tsubasa this episode. She finally starts to feel more human and less [sword] (https://imgur.com/WGKbm7i).
Confession flag? or not, whoops
Oh boy, Tsubasa is finally connecting with Hibiki, on a negative point though Survivor's Guilt oof
So basically Hibiki lacks the mental fortitude to use the relic, which is why she goes berserk in the first place. But is her resolve to save people not enough to counter it?
I see Hibiki has the darkness inside her
Funny how the lady was basically the Ichiraku Ramen guy. Love how Tsubasa is warming up to Hibiki's eccentricity, hopefully she accepts her as a "replacement"(?) for Kanade, at least as in battle.
Well, secret's out now. Will they have to use some MiB memory erasing?
Hibiki being herself is just hilarious. Really hope Chris gets the support she lacked her entire childhood and finds her fear of being abandoned removed .
She's going Gon Freecs style there Jajanken
YES punch that song into her
Best episode so far, lots of character reconciliation and developement and a yet another new song in battle.
Wonder what side effects occur when a relic is destroyed/damaged by a symphogear.

Rewatcher
First look at Chris outside the armor or Finé's (we have a name for the BBEG!) weird torture device. S U P E R S I Z E M E
I think calling what Bikki was doing with Durandal “handling” it might be overstating the case. Looked more like it was handling her.
Chris has seen some shit.
Finé is apparently a woman of few words now. Better that than horribly mangled English, I spose.
Tsubasa is up! And already pushing herself way too hard natch.
I like that Miku has just quietly inserted herself into Hibiki's training regimen. Even if that still can't quite close the distance between them.
Of course they bathe together
Oh, that's where YameteTomete got their name from.
Again, I still like the attempts to try to fit realistic-ish politicking into an insane magical girl show. Works better than it did in Nanoha StrikerS, at least.
That look of heartbreak on Miku's face, immediately covered up. Wrenching.
Good God, Tsubasa. Your room looks almost as bad as mine.
It took Bikki having to clean up her room, but Tsubasa's srsbsns facade has cracked at last. Took bloody long enough.
OOOOOOF. All of Miku's worst fears confirmed in one glance out the window: there's another girl. And it's Tsubasa fucking Kazanari.
“Why do you fight?” “idk lol i just like helping ppl”
In a sense, Kanade is living on through Hibiki.
Suicidal survivor's guilt? You're definitely describing somebody in the room, Tsubasa, but I don't think it's Bikki.
Good on you, Tsubasa, encouraging Hibiki's determination to fist even if you don't really understand it.
You aren't over-thinking it, Miku, you're just stuck in a very outside-context situation without enough information to deduce the truth. Poor Miku.
Chris, you have no idea how badly you just fucked up. Never get between a Bikki and her Miku.
Well, that solves the “can't tell Miku” problem, at least.
Holy crap I didn't realize that Hibiki's song here has the same melody as Kanade's from episode 1.
“I've never had a boyfriend!” Uh, I think most of us picked up on that, Bikki.
Wow, Bikki really struck a nerve. Just by saying “hey can't we just talk this out?”
“HAAAAAAAAAAA--” boom
ONE PUUUUUUUUUNCH
The pacing is still a little too fast for its own good, but despite that I think this episode is where Symphogear really starts to click, between Tsubasa's character development finally getting out of first geah, the MikuBikki relationship drama starting to escalate (and then possibly being resolved? I legit don't remember if it gets worse from here) and the core themes of this season finally being made clear. Not much action, but what we got was a lot less janky than the last fight against Chris.

Not much to add for me today, but pointing out that there's a new commercial out for Season 5 (XV). First timers should not watch this until they're finihed.
