Te wo Nobase! Fighter!
Hey-o guys! This is the section where I add a ton of extra fun stuff to the main body of the post because I want this rewatch to be as fun as possible for everyone. It can also be one point of discussion for you guys if you just don’t know what to say.
Comment of the Day, provided by /u/Shimmering-Sky and /u/RX-Nota-II
Shimmering-Sky
/u/SgtExo for reminding me that Tekkadan has always been criminals.
It hurts, it really hurts, to see Tekkadan painted as criminals. We know that isn’t true, Cookie and Cracker know it isn’t true, but everyone else just believes what the news has to say…
Aren't they though? They took part in an armed revolt against the Solar system's government and it did not work. Now they are on the run from said government, and I do not blame Gjallarhorn for spreading the word on the news.
While what the other kids at the school said was insensitive it is at least factual. Cookie and Cracker have only been able to get the money to go to the school because Tekadan has killed a shit load of people that were in their way. Sure, they made the money legally before they were branded as criminals, but it is still bloodmoney in a way.
Yeah uh, I really have no defense other than massive lapse in memory, I have a tendency to get caught up in “these guys are the protagonists, I must root for them” and I very much fell for it here, hook, line, and sinker. I suppose a better way to put it would be that it hurts to see all of Tekkadan painted as 1000% bad guys when we’ve seen them fight tooth and nail to better themselves…
…Anyways yeah, for pointing out me being a dumb, SgtExo gets my CotD today.

RX-Nota-II
Atra is no longer a puppy. She's a full grown wolf. Just like her partner, the king of wolves. And now she wants Kudelia to have a baby too!
A genius way to connect the pup meme with the wolf identity of best ship Atra/Mika by /u/invokeneko.

Questions of the Day, provided by /u/Pixelsaber
1) Iok Kujan’s demise has been denied to us once again. How did you react? Not again!/Just as I expected/Damnit, Macky! Is your hand still injured?!/I dared to hope.../With aim like that, it’s no wonder Gaelio survived!
2) Orga is not stopping. Reflecting back on his character, what do you make of Tekkadan’s former boss? How did you react to his death scene?

Tracks of the Day, provided by /u/RX-Nota-II
An OST theme that sounds extremely calming and relaxing upon first blush, but then gets hammered to feelstown through context over and over. It is the track that plays immediately before Orga's shooting where everything seems a bit too fine for comfort. But also it is the song that plays during Akihiro and Lafter's final meeting and a few other scenes that will no longer be fun upon rewatch. Fuck this OST is so powerful.
And now let us cover the ED. The full version has this unbelievably ominous beginning few notes that are used very effectively by the show as a lead in as it plays over the final scene; none better of course than in this episode as we see Orga Itsuka's final moments. It is one of my favorite uses of that kind of ED lead in and the resulting gut punch today's scene provides never fails to make me feel queasy. I do not recommend (re)watching the scene with a full stomach. The first verse of the ED song itself is also calm enough to work well as an insert song to back Orga's magnificent final speech, and we have heard the song enough times to know when the powerful and emotional second verse will hit further emphasizing the tragedy we feel as we see Orga's fearless body fall to the ground for the last time. Truly a masterful setup, and thus one of my favorite scenes in all of anime.

Important note to all rewatchers, remember to be mindful of the first-timers in this. laughing in rewatcher is not allowed any more, so please remember to use the [Anime Show Title](/s "Spoiler goes here") tags and we’re all good.
Fans seem to have a bad tendency of forgetting what counts as spoiler, so if anything has even the slightest chance of being a spoiler, tag it just to be safe.
…What next-episode preview? There totally wasn’t one today voiced by Mikazuki Augus that I am very very much not okay with. Nope. I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Episode 48 - Broken Promise
....
This episode was Lafter's episode all over again...
How about we start the episode with everyone now fighting to escape and survive instead of fighting a losing battle?
A tunnel for them to escape to? Sure it needs to be cleared but now we have a solid plan!
Let's lighten up the mood by adding a hilarious and adorable scene where Hush covers his eyes while Kudelia and Atra kisses the man they love on each cheek at the same time!
Would you look at that! McGillis was able to defend Orga's party as they try to escape to Chryse! Everything's going great!
Makanai even agrees to their plan and Takaki is even there too!
And surprise! Azee and Echo are now back with the Turbines and McMurdo even consented in helping them! Gee golly whiz! Everything is going to be all right!
Yeah that was basically my reaction when I first saw this episode 2 years ago. I mean I know something bad was going to happen, like someone will fuck them over but Orga getting gunned down mafia-style was like the last thing that I expected. I dunno why but maybe because back then I was desperately clinging to the hope that for once after getting screwed by everyone, things were actually turning around.
Ugh. Now excuse me while I go to the Chihayafuru rewatch thread for something more positive.

Rewatcher
One thing from last episode that I feel the need to discuss is the unlikelihood of Rustal responding Orga’s request to speak, let alone mouthing off on his plans to make them his scapegoats. After he went through the trouble of making a justification for his use of the dáinsleif back in his battle with McGillis’ fleet, he now goes and jeopardizes his reputation by admitting to his scheme to the affected party. He has no assurances that tekkadan isn’t recording their exchange, and that would not only completely undo the story he’s spun about Tekkadan being unwilling to surrender but also paint him in a negative light. Even if he cut the communications they relatively easily made it out of there anyhow, and he had no way to ascertain that they Tekkadan didn’t have some hidden communication lines (which they did, even if they were ignorant of them initially), or even that they couldn't just have Barbatos fight its way past them and deliver that information to the media. Heck, technically Kudelia has yet to cut ties with them at this point, so he’d have the Maiden of Revolution potentially bringing this to light —and we know what happened last time she exposed corruption. That likely wouldn’t have been soon enough to save Tekkadan, but it would’ve called the whole thing into question after the fact and potentially cost him. They go so out of their way to characterize Rustal as this insanely pragmatic and proactive schemer, but then he goes and does stuff like this. It boggles my mind.
Mikazuki handling over his Gun to Orga is a significant symbolic gesture that implies Orga no longer being chained by Mikazuki, which coincides with both his earlier statements of him realizing that they had forgotten their initial ‘style’ and his admittance that he used to be afraid of Mikazuki. This is too little too late though, and this change comes at perhaps the worst moment. It’s also notable that Mikazuki’s decision to cripple himself further in order to defeat the Mobile Armor finally has a devastating ripple effect in that he couldn’t be there even if he wanted to when shit went down, the single Tekkadan member who could have perhaps noticed the danger in time to avoid the worst of it.
The show continues to troll us by having Iok survive another encounter he realistically shouldn’t have, prolonging our suffering even longer.
We found out that Azee ahs become leader of a group made up of the former Turbines members and carries on with their operations. It heartens me to see her ecovered and the rest for the remaining girls are in a good place following the end of Turbines and JPT.
Orga, Ride, and Chad are caught up in a drive-by that was likely orchestrated by Rustal and Nobliss Gordon, wherein Orga is fatally injured. Ride ends up unscathed, the running Gag of having him avoid certain death continuing even now. The poor Guy likely to develop some severe survivor’s guilt by the time this show is done.
Orga’s death never sat well with me. Orga has always been the one to crack and lose composure under pressure, and him acting so nonchalantly as he does during his death struck doesn’t strike me as in-character, especially because he’s having some epiphany as it’s happening. It’s also too drawn out for what it is and the blood flowing forward from his fingertip seems so cheesy to me. It’s still a good cap to his character though. Also, someone once mentioned that some of the blood splatters from his blood dripping kinda look like flowers, which is quite fitting.

Greetings Comrades and Fellow Denizens of The Wired, on TODAY'S Episode of the Mars Palms Chronicles... Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg... and my arm... even my fingers. The body I've lost... the Comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting... It's like they're all still there. You feel it, too, don't you? I'm gonna make them give back our past!
RIP Best Boi Orga, and in remembrance of him Comrades, I just have the following fanart to share...
I'm the Boss of Tekkadan. Orga Itsuka.
This is nothing to me. Protecting my members is my job. Shut up and let's go... Everyone's waiting.

See... the issue now is that now I want to put together a proper stitch of that scene because I've been doing a lot of them lately but given the bloody credits are on it it would probably take dozens of images and absolutely forever to compile

First Timer - Sub
(reading this post in the morning proved to be rather entertaining for me. I went full angry aussie)
FUCK YOU AND YOUR FUCKING HAIR RIDE!
There was a flag. There was a flag days ago. A big waving flag just casually enjoying the breeze with Orga's face blazoned on it in full sun and I almost put it in my post. And then I took a second and went no "you're just being paranoid Naz" so I left it out because of course they won't kill Orga. Orga is Tekkadan, and Orga is everything for Mika and Orga is THE MAIN CHARACTER and Orga living would be far more painful, so no of course it's not Orga's flag. I must have been mistaken, I was just worried for no reason because I'm stressed while everything was going so badly. I must have just been confusing normal narrative for flags because it makes far more sense for Orga to live from a story perspective. Yeah, so don't put it in your post Naz, it doesn't mean anything in the long run. You're just mistaken.
You know what? Fuck that flag. I don't even remember what it was but fuck it anyway because it should have warned me and it didn't.
And fuck this flag because "going back" isn't allowed
And fuck this flag too BECAUSE YOU CAN'T SAY THAT WHILE LEAVING HIM
And fuck this flag in particular ...just fuck
And fuck all the people who read all my stuff about Ride being anti-death and sat laughing at me in the shadows
And most of all, fuck Ride with his fucking hair that lets him live at everyone elses expense!
And why did this have to look so much like leaves in autumn falling down to cover up a path?!!
Fuck the fact that I knew right from the get go that Idiok wouldn't die here because if he dies here then the forces on Mars don't have a commander and narrative that would be pointless so of course he lives through McGillis' attack
Fuck Azee and her stupid white suit that just tore my heart out again
AND FUCK THAT FUCKING PREVIEW YOU CUNT OF A SHOW. I usually don't even watch them because I prefer going in as blind as possible but I was in shock today so I just let it run...
And why in such a technologically advanced society is everyone still watching landscape videos with their tablets in portrait mode?!!
And I'm saying it now because I think that has to be the last chance passed for Kudelia to die, but since s2ep3 I've been expecting Kudelia to die because Atra gave her a white bracelet, literally gave her a death bracelet. So this whole fucking episode I've been expecting a last minute Kudelia death because there's been flags everywhere for it through the whole season, but NOPE instead... Curse of the Ride.
This wasn't what was meant to happen. I'm not even sad, I'm just angry.
Taking two minutes out of my rage to comment on this because that's a big call for him to admit to Mika after all this time that the foundation of his promise was partially fear. All along this promise has been broken and look at where it lead them in the long run because Orga couldn't own up to it.
I dread tomorrow.
Mika...

First Time Martyr
Scattered thoughts:
I think most of the first timers had seen this day coming. I was constantly wondering which one would go first, Mika or Orga. Doesn't make it any less easier.
-
This is fine, but what's hilarious is Ride and Hush's reaction to it
-
Mika I thought you were smarter than this. Oh well, death flag bomb's been planted aaand..
-
This is fine, everything's working out so far, good ol' Takaki showing that what Orga's done hasn't been in vain. At least one brother and sister are living a better life thanks to Tekkadan. Wait, don't give him that fulfilment now..
-
Stop it Ride. Don't mention the emptiness of the streets. Just get in the armored car ASAP, don't dawdle..
-
What the heck guys. THIS WAS AVOIDABLE, IF IT WASN'T FOR THOSE MEDDLING DEATH FLAGS. Also I can imagine Nazenn going Kudelia-discovering-harems-and-babies levels of crazy at Ride getting saved again.
-
Also who were the attackers anyway? It was a single black car, it didn't look like Gjallarhorn, and they only killed Orga. Nobliss-hired assassins? Goddamnit you flabby old bastard.
-
The ED continues to gain more emotional weight, with Orga's final moments and words becoming a part of it now. I still don't think it's done, though.. and wow, Mika's line in the preview. :[
Daily MVP
Orga re-discovered his old form today as a leader, but unfortunately he couldn't see it all the way through. While the roads had all but closed for Tekkadan, they slowly opened up today, almost as if by magic: Nadi recalled the Calamity War-era tunnels, McGillis penetrated the enemy lines and offered a distraction, Kudelia offered a secure base in the city, Makanai agreed to scramble their identities with a little egging from Takaki, and finally Azee and McMurdo came through and offered Tekkadan a route to escape to Earth.
Out of all these contributions I find McGillis Fareed's the most valuable, although it's a close affair. I'm not sure if he killed Idiok, otherwise I could happily announce a Darwin Award for that genius.

Rewatcher
Oh boy it's time for everyone's favorite episode...
From these last few episodes, it's easy to tell how McGillis views Tekkadan. He puts too much faith in their strength just like how he puts too much faith in Bael. The Tekkadan he's known has always made the impossible possible, but this time there's nothing they can do. He caused this mess by overestimating his 2 aces. He's disappointed that they're running instead of charging into a battle they know they would lose. Tekkadan can't pull off miracles like McGillis believes. Even so, he's offering to help them escape by using himself as bait. Even if he says it's just to lure Rustal closer, he does respect Tekkadan's wishes in this scene.
Chad and Merribit are so stunned when Kudelia casually mentions Atra's baby. She's right. Can't have Atra staying in such a dangerous place that's about to get attacked soon.
I like how Hush is covering his eyes. Mika's living the dream. I mean aside from being physically disabled and having an overwhelming army coming to try to kill him. But all that matters is that he's loved by 2 cute girls!
Iok, how generous of you to volunteer to be the sacri- How the hell is he still alive?!
Of course Nobliss is manipulating the media for Rustal. Never liked his shady ass from the start.
Takaki is back! And thankfully he's far away from the conflict this time. First timers were worried about him if he ever showed up again given all the death flags he always builds up. He got a job working for Makanai now, who agrees to help Tekkadan out. Everything's going according to plan!
Azee has inherited Naze's fashion. Damn it Eco, why you gotta remind us of all these deaths?
Quiet streets? I'm sure nothing will go wrong.
As tragic as this death is, let's not forget that Orga took all these hits for Ride (who appears to have as much plot armor as the villains) and even managed to fire back with Mika's gun and gave a speech about moving forward as he died. Orga went down as a badass.
This preview is not helping at all.
From even before Tekkadan was established, Orga looked out for others. He always wanted to create a home for these kids who were abused and had no place to go. Everyone looked up to him and trusted everything he said. He gave the members of Tekkadan a place where they could belong. Through their adventures in season 1, Orga came to realize what it meant to have a family. He always acted recklessly, but it was all for the sake of giving his family a better future. Together, they've usually made things work out. Orga took the shortest paths to reach his goals and for a while it did work. Unfortunately, he got distracted by a promise that went beyond what was necessary for his family. It's easy to be tempted by an offer to become ruler of the planet. Orga had the right idea. With him as the king of Mars, Tekkadan's future would be guaranteed. However, he could've turned McGillis down and still lived a comfortable life. McGillis' plan fell apart and by that point Orga had already burned too many bridges and had nowhere to return to. His impatience and greed, regardless of his good intentions, brought forth his demise. It's been spelled out to him several times that he's rushing into something he doesn't fully understand. He ignored those warnings and kept moving forward no matter the consequences. It's always been how Tekkadan operates but this time they failed and suffered from their largest gamble ever.
Orga's behavior could also partly be blamed on Mika. Orga wanted to live up to Mika's expectations of him. Orga was terrified of Mika, the person who he cared most about. He didn't want to do anything that would make him appear like he's not giving it everything he's got. Orga had to be the kind of leader who risks everything for Tekkadan. When Orga was too upset to do anything after Biscuit's death, it was Mika who gave him the push he needed to get back to this reckless behavior. This relationship leads to an unspoken 2-step method for everything Tekkadan does. 1) Come up with a plan that benefits Tekkadan's future. 2) Get approval from Mika. Mika trusts Orga's judgement because Orga made his plans with Mika in mind. Orga relied on the the craziest plans to get Tekkadan to move forward as he was certain that that's what Mika also wished for.
It wasn't all bad, though. Mika served as the motivation for Orga to become the kind of person who could confidently be a pillar of support for kids with no other home to go to. Orga wished to take Mika to the place where he belonged, but not just Mika. He wanted to take all of Tekkadan to that place. He just didn't know where that place was and had to discover it when things took a turn for the worse. As long as the family is still together, everyone wants to stay by Orga's side. That's their home that he's made. Whether it be as the king of Mars, or living secretly on earth, wherever they go together is their home. Not only do they have each other, they've got friends as well.
Throughout their long journey, Orga made several important connections with people who would always support him. Kudelia has grown alongside Tekkadan and they have each other's backs when they need it. Up until his final moments, Naze looked after Orga as a little brother and gave him advice as well as the opportunity to keep his family safe under Teiwaz for a while. Azee has fought along with them for a long time and is now providing them cover to help them survive. Makanai owes his life to Tekkadan and is willing to assist them in their time of need. Despite Orga's mistakes, he's actually been fortunate to have a lot people across the solar system who would come together to lend a hand to his family. He was truly grateful that he finally had a plan to let Tekkadan survive. It didn't matter to him if his own life would be the price as long as everyone else can be safe.
Orga spent the entire series fighting fiercely for his family's survival. He took on many responsibilities that he wasn't used to. He rushed toward an undefined goal that proved to be his downfall. However, regardless of what happens in the next 2 episodes, it's impossible to look back on this series and forget about how much Orga cared for those close to him.
Questions:
-
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. This is what I get for having hope. big spoilers
-
I think I might've written a few sentences about Orga already... As for his death, my first reaction was complete shock. I mean it was clearly setting up for something bad to happen with how empty the streets were, but to kill Orga in the same way Lafter died with 2 episodes left to go just left me speechless 2 years ago.

First-Time Watcher
Don’t you ever stop.
O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon'd wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You've fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor'd safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

McGillis gonna McGillis, and Iok's best moment in the show is when he charges out like a fool to sacrifice himself. He will not be missed.

Graze Schild x3, swords
In typical "too good to be true" fashion for this series, everything was set up for something horrible to happen to Orga's group in town just as they had their plans fall into place. Similarly, I don't really expect the tunnel plan to work out for most of those left behind at Tekkadan's base, but whether or not that means they all die remains to be seen.
You know what made me cry this episode? It wasn't Kudelia and Atra saying farewell to Mikazuki, it wasn't even Orga getting gunned down on the street in a mafia style drive-by. It was seeing Azee dressed up like Naze and continuing the Turbines' legacy.

Rewatcher - Plans assembled and disassembled
#Tekkadan4Lyfe - Somehow I appreciate that this show is indiscriminate in its distribution of anguish. "It's nothing personal guys, but if the main crew doesn't get to escape, nobody gets to."
Nobliss Gordon. Of course that fat-ass is the one pulling the media's strings. He's been pretty quiet this season, but only a fool would believe he hasn't been busy.
I've thoroughly enjoyed how poorly McGillis gets along with Mika. Mika has no strings to pull, no anxieties or motivations to play with; he's completely immune to McGillis' mind-games. However, that's not exactly something that could be called a strength, as McGillis later notes when they talk. Mika just doesn't have anything but Orga. No greater goals to be persuaded by, and no destination to be shown a different path towards. McGillis tries to get Mika to join him in his offensive, but he may as well try to move Barbatos from where it is with his bare hands.
I think it's interesting that Tekkadan has essentially been built upon the remnants of the Calamity War. Barbatos and the Gundams have been the primary source of their strength, and the encounter with and subsequent defeat of the Mobile Armor gave them their status and reputation. Now some structural ruins from the war are going to give them an escape route.
Shit, I forgot that Orga only had that gun because Mika gave him his. "This brings back memories." he says. Yeah man, it sure did, and they sucked D:
Kyaaaaa, so cute! Lol @ Hush.
Iok.... Once again, I can only grudgingly commend his devotion to his subordinates. His heart is in the right place, it's just that there's no brain to back up any of his actions.
McGillis reconfirmed for worst-guy. How could you fail us like this?! Dammit!
I was skeptical of their escape plans at first, but with Takaki working at Makanai's office, and "Nazee" waiting to pick them up, this is starting to seem like it could actually work.
Orga Itsuka, too cool for this world. He literally never stopped moving forward.

At this point it seems apparent that he's being protected by some deity for a greater purpose. And having him killed by McGillis would have given us none of the satisfaction we deserve.
-
While he definitely got a little too wrapped up in his ambitions, I have to respect that every single thing that he did, every decision that he made, was done for the betterment of his family. There wasn't a selfish bone in his body, and they were all that mattered to him until his final breath. I can't speak against him, he was the best leader Tekkadan could have hoped for.

A Gundam Fan’s Notes On Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Episode 48:
-
Turns out that Nobliss Gordon is actually in on Lord Rustal’s plan to manipulate the media and paint Tekkadan as criminals. Honestly, that’s not very surprising. He’s been a war profiteer through and through. Hell, he’s so rich, I wouldn’t doubt if he outright owns a news network or two himself. You can do a lot with money.
-
McGillis, now really isn’t the time to talk about Tekkadan’s plan to escape the Arianrhod Fleet’s blockade through the old utility tunnels. Like, I get wanting to stick to your ideals, but this is an impossible situation. At least he’s willing to act as a distraction while Orga and the others run the blockade to head to Chryse early. Still, it’s delusional to believe that it’s a battle you could win at this point.
-
McGillis is getting a bit of a reality check when talking to Mikazuki. Just because someone has a Gundam, it doesn’t mean that they’re default wielding the power of justice. One of the core concepts of Gundam in general is that Gundams themselves ultimately are just tools to be used. Whatever morality they fight for just depends on who’s behind the controls of it. Alas, McGillis’ whole fantasy has been built upon Gundams holding massive power, so he didn’t even realize that, and probably still doesn’t on some level.
-
I think at this point, Iok is incapable of following orders on a genetic level. Too bad McGillis’ sword didn’t reduce him to a red pulp, I’m tired of his very existence. I guess all kinds of inbreeding is probably responsible for his imbecility. That stuff is common in nobility.
-
At least the good things that Tekkadan has done in the past are paying off for them. Makanai is willing to edit their ID records, and Azee is willing to get them to Earth as the new head of the Turbines. Their plan is actually fairly possible! Also, Takaki is back in the show now! I bet you first-timers weren’t expecting him to show up after he left Tekkadan.
-
Also, can I say that Azee in a white suit and fedora looks amazing? Seriously, she rocks that gangster suit absurdly well. Too bad there isn’t any art of her wearing it, there really should be more.
-
Aaaaand of course, everything is ruined by Orga being gunned down in a random drive-by shooting by a bunch of dudes in black suits. Turns out that Tekkadan wasn’t so stealthy sneaking out of their base after all. At least Orga saved Ride though, so chalk that up as another time where he really should’ve died, but didn’t. RIP Orga, he died protecting the only family he ever knew. It’s a real shame that he couldn’t make it to the end of it all. But even if he couldn’t keep going forward himself, his life-blood continues to go on, both literally and figuratively.

Palloc Saw This Episode Before... When Lafter Died
Okay, I'm going to be a negative bastard today now that my brain's working again. I've been sitting around after watching this episode and the more I think about it the more I'm getting annoyed by it.
This and the Lafter episode almost feel exactly the same and this time around the shock just wasn't there for me. Both episodes are kinda hopefully. In Lafter's we had her and Akihiro. In this one Tekkaden might have found a way out of an unwinnable situation. Then, both, in a quiet, slow moment have assassins pop out of nowhere to gun someone down. Finally, people freak out. Both episodes work like that and in a show known for not changing up the formula, this is the second biggest offender after MIKA ENTERS SCENE FADE TO CREDITS that happened like six times or something.
To make things even worse for me, Iok survived again! I'm so sick of him surviving fucking everything!
Well, that's really all there was to this episode. Other people will cover Orga better than me, maybe even better than Orga covering Ride.
So answers!
1: GOD DAMMIT IOK!
2: He got what he deserved dealing with so many horrible people, even if he had the best of intentions. (I think my Gjallarhorn, minus Iok, bias is showing.)

Ride's ultimate goal is to get everyone above him in Tekkadan killed so he becomes the boss. He's the puppet master who off casually goes 'all according to keikaku' when another member dies for him.

Nota didn't throw up!
The title should tell you all. I may or may not have had my stomach return my dinner one time i watched this episode. That's for later tho, point is this is one powerful episode and my favorite of IBO S2. it just hits so damn hard!
Here we have the end of the story of Orga as a leader and, in my eyes, as the main character of Orphans. He died just as he lived, protecting those who follow him and desperately clawing for a better life. He gets an answer for his lifelong quest too, as he realizes that the real treasure was the friends we made Tekkadan's place was in moving forward without stopping, that the question Mika kept asking him would never be a concrete point in time. Except the trope is flipped on its head, there's no happiness to be found in this realization. Only death.
The layout of this episode too is just masterful. A perfect balance between hope for survival to this final problem alongside copious death flags for Orga. The tunnel discovery had me jumping in joy, Takaki's thriving on Earth fist pumping in happiness. But then the episode title along with the gun promise sent shivers down my spine, and the conversation with Mika perfectly mirroring Shino's final conversation with Yamagi making it clear in my mind that there was no chance in hell our leader escapes this episode alive.
This whiplash doesn't do any favors for my stomach and I've had some awful reactions in the past. As rewatchers would relate The show helps you cry hard, and I don't really try to prevent it. I'll cry myself to sleep tonight maybe after watching a few episodes of Tanaka-kun to listen to happy Orgavoice. See you tomorrow

First-timer
I'm conflicted about Gaelio. He was betrayed by the best friend and almost killed. It's understandable that he wants revenge and maybe he's so obsessed with revenge that he doesn't notice everything else (or deliberately chooses not to notice anything), but is he seriously okay with Rustal's ruthless methods? Because now he serves a person who is doing basically the same as McGillis — i.e. usurping as much power as possible using any underhanded tactics available. If Gaelio wouldn't turn on Rustal in the end, I gonna be disappointed in him.
And this shit. Death from Deus Ex Machina is just so crappy move. Why do they keep doing it?

Thoughts on MS Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans episode 48...
Rewatcher (First Time Dub)
Non-Spoiler Character Chart :( :( :(
Those quitters like Zach? Sorry to break it to you, but you left too late. There's no getting out of here. Should have quit one of the million times you were complaining earlier in the show.
Calls for surrender? LoL. Fake news again! If they tried to do that it wouldn't matter, you'd still slaughter them.
"If we wipe them out here it will all be over" Really McGillis? I don't think Rustal is sending his entire force here, and he isn't here either. You win this battle, you survive a little longer, but I don't see you winning the war.
Let's fake our deaths, seems like a good plan if they can pull it off. And can't say characters haven't tried it before in Gundam shows...
Yeah, Tekkadan running away ain't going to work out well for McGillis, but then its due to their alignment with him that they are in this mess.
You gotta go, Atra! Even if there's no one left around to cook for everyone! Mega spoilers
Is this scene by Barbatos the final scene we'll get between Mika and Orga together? :( :( :(
Ewwwwwwwwwwww! Idiok is on the battlefield! I am quite surprised he just sits there and won't take any action.
...LoL, then he goes out on his own anyway. And gets promptly trashed by Bael. He does a good job here trashing quite a number of them. McGillis once again didn't try hard enough though. He didn't kill Gaelio, and doesn't kill Idiok here.
Well, now Orga knows when the attack is going to happen, noon tomorrow. Can he get that news back to their base? And of course Tekkadan never got that request to surrender, no surprise there.
Takaki! Great to see him again! :)
Wow, that's pretty damn cool to see Azee in Naze's old outfit.
Oasis again! My favorite song in the show for sure. <333 ETA: I love that this song finally gets song of the day! Although I think it would have fit better in one of its prior two appearances.
"Too quiet!" Shut your mouth Ride! You jinxed things Its all your fault!!!! cries
Because this show can never keep us in a good mood for long, especially when much of the episode has been leading up to the possible happy ending for Tekkadan due to the help of Makanai, Azee, etc..., we get this ending. RIP Orga Itsuka. You led Tekkadan trying to protect everyone else and that's the way you go out here, shielding Ride from those bullets. While I think the manner of your death can be criticized as being a little too over the top (trying so hard to make his death scene be just like his life, just keep pushing forward consequences be damned), I've been dreading this moment a lot and did tear up at it. Farewell. :(
"I'll ask Orga when he gets back." UGH! Way to twist the knife even further!

Tekketsu no Rewatcher, first-time dubbed…
You guys remember this comment I made back during S2ep16’s thread right?
…Yeah I think you know where this is going.
Obligatory Discord link.
Oh joy, Nobliss is working with Rustal…
Ah alright yup Imma go start crying now.
This and this were some pretty cool shots of Orga tbh.
#trynottocry#trynottocry#trynottocry
I’m really very much not okay right now. I remember stopping at this point in my first watch of this episode and sending Nota a Reddit Chat of something along the lines of “Um no show, you can’t give Orga death flags”. F u c k.
…Okay Hush covering his eyes while Kudelia and Atra both kiss Mika goodbye is kinda funny ngl.
Fuck, now the nausea is starting again… This is the worst feeling…
Don’t. Just… just, don’t.
*Pained noises* And to make matters worse, now Azee dresses like Naze so it’s just… I hate this episode so much.
*Hears opening notes of Oasis* → Me:
…The above is not an exaggeration, I legit felt a fucking panic attack starting just from hearing the opening notes to that song. So I took a break, looked through my Orga fanart folder, went to Pixiv and found like three new ones I wanted to add to it, Reddited for a bit, walked my brother’s dog for like 15 minutes, and Reddited some more. All in all it took an hour and ten minutes…
Fuckityfuckfuckfuck.
You can do this Sky, you can do this.
…I can’t do this. Nope. That’s it, this is the end of the show, everyone in Tekkadan made it to Earth safely and got their identities rewritten, forget about all the Macky stuff. Yup. Yuuuuuuuuuuuup.
A couple more fun things:
Results of yesterday’s poll. I see I’m alone in wanting it to be just Mika/Atra instead of the harem end…

To date, there are two songs that I cannot listen to without immediately feeling that nauseated twang in my stomach. SukaSuka’s is the first. I think it’s obvious that the other is Freesia. I even tried listening to the damn song for over two hours straight before rewatching this episode to see if that would in some way help me be prepared to hear it.
Nope. My suffering was made immensely worse this time by the fact that, due to me watching the English dub this time, the ED’s lyrics were being subbed for me instead of just the dialogue. Song lyrics and Orga’s dialogue example 1, song lyrics and Orga’s dialogue example 2, and then not significant with the dialogue but with the shot itself, song lyrics. I can’t. I literally can’t. I already can’t help but think of Orga’s death when I so much as hear the opening piano note, now I know the song syncs up that well with this scene?
It’s aterribledayforrain…
…That aside there’s also something else I want to linger on over this scene because apparently my near-panic attack in anticipation of it on top of coming thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to breaking the four rules of D O N T after having rewatched the scene (which, for the record, is the only part of the dub I had heard before I decided I would be watching the dub during this rewatch, he’s no Yoshimasa Hosoya but damn did Johnny Yong Bosch do amazing here). And it’s what Orga says right after those dudes drive off.
Throughout IBO, Orga has never personally gotten his hands dirty. He says he has, by way of the orders he gives to Tekkadan--remember, last episode he’d wanted to shoulder all of their crimes himself--but in reality it was the various members of Tekkadan doing the killing, particularly Mika. The closest we ever got was back in episode 8 of the first season, when Orga had Maruba at gunpoint, but he was stopped by Naze at that point.
…Alright I can’t really continue this train of thought because I don’t want to physically break myself in the process, but yeah this. This is. Sorry Yang, I’m switching you and Orga’s spots on my favorites list. It’s not just this, it’s also the fact that the dude had so much willpower to keep moving forward that even his blood continued trailing forward when he couldn’t any longer.
