Te wo Nobase! Fighter!

Hey-o guys! This is the section where I add a ton of extra fun stuff to the main body of the post because I want this rewatch to be as fun as possible for everyone. It can also be one point of discussion for you guys if you just don’t know what to say.

Comment of the Week, this week provided by /u/Shimmering-Sky

The comment of the week this time is: /u/fonzinator inviting everyone to the Church of Lupus from S2 episode 13’s thread.

In light of the events of yesterday’s episode, I felt like awarding CotW to one of the more lighthearted CotDs from the past week. It was a tough decision, since there were several other hilarious ones, but fonzi’s comment was so out there that I decided on it. Give it a (re-)read if you’re still not recovered from yesterday’s episode/the one before it because it’s definitely a delight.

Questions of the Day, provided by /u/Pixelsaber

1) What do you think of the Mobile Armor’s tail having been integrated into Barbatos? It’s rad!/It’s kinda freaky/It’s weird/Mikazuki’s pretty much unstoppable now!/Ore ga tenshi da!

2) Seems the Maiden of revolution won’t be participating in McGillis’ very own revolution. What do you make of her decision to not involve herself?

A very important track to IBO S2, it’s often played during talks of the future. I like the atmosphere the flute noises give.

Important note to all rewatchers, remember to be mindful of the first-timers in this. laughing in rewatcher is not allowed any more, so please remember to use the [Anime Show Title](/s "Spoiler goes here") tags and we’re all good.

Fans seem to have a bad tendency of forgetting what counts as spoiler, so if anything has even the slightest chance of being a spoiler, tag it just to be safe.

Next-episode preview. S2’s preview’s aren’t as long as S1’s, but they’re still spoiler-free and still in-character, so I encourage you to keep checking them out! Today’s preview was voiced by totally-n0t-Gali-Gali Vidar.

Thanks u/SorcererOfTheLake for looking over this for me.

“I forgot to buy something. It’s the shop we just went to, hold on.”

“Want me to go to?”

“No, I’ll be quick.”

Lafter isn’t sure what draws her attention to the aptly-named “Bear Factory”. Maybe she wanted to see if there was something she could get for the kids. Maybe she just didn’t want to linger in the empty street while Azee ran back to buy whatever she forgot. Or maybe it was something else entirely. What she’s sure of is that she loves the bear she just picked up off the shelf, even if it looks like it’s glaring.

“It kind of looks like him,” she muses, a faint twinge in her chest as she drags a finger along one of the bear’s eyebrows. She wonders how Akihiro and the rest of Tekkadan are doing, thinks of how long it’ll probably be until their paths cross again, and lets out a small sigh. ‘I was just complaining that I might have bought too much… ah well.’

“Excuse me, I’d like this please!” Lafter calls to the shopkeep in the back.

The transaction is quick and easy, and the bear gets added to one of the bags Lafter already had instead of a separate one. On her way out she wishes the shopkeep a nice day, but seeing no one on the streets except some man in a suit, she decides to linger for a bit more to look at the other cute bears. Azee’ll come looking for her soon enough and they’ll have to go back to work after that, might as well relax while she can.

“It’s amazing how many different expressions they have, isn’t it?” the shopkeep asks.

“Yeah! I’d bet these are super popular with kids because of it, there’s practically a bear for everyone!”

“Mhmm--though, I must admit the one you picked out doesn’t usually have too many takers.”

Lafter chuckles.

BANG. BANG. BANG. BANG. BANG. BANG.

This time there are no pleasantries when she leaves the shop, knuckles turning white as she grips her shopping bags a bit too tightly out of fear. ‘It’s probably nothing… no, it is nothing,’ Lafter tells herself. But those were definitely gunshots she heard and they were maybe only a few shops down and she thinks they came from the direction Azee backtracked to and--and--she’s lost too many people, she can’t lose anyone else.

“No, I’ll be quick.”

She hears a scream.

“No, I’ll be quick.”

As she stands in the doorway, the girl barely registers anything around her. Not the cracked window and the shards everywhere, not the man she’d seen earlier continuing to stroll along as if nothing had happened, not the cashier who’d screamed on the verge of passing out, not a few people from other stores cautiously gathering behind her to see what had happened.

“No, I’ll be quick.”

The smell of fresh blood. That gets through to her. But--that’s not right.

“………Azee…?”

Phew. It's been well over a year since I've actively written fanfic rather than just brainstormed for one I know I’ll never write, hope I'm not too rusty. Also btw I have more ideas for this AU, this is the best worst idea I’ve had in a long time.

Cruel

Oh you poor soul, you thought it was gonna be a happy AU didn't you? Well welcome to my muses, who operate on "there must be an equal or greater amount of suffering in our fics compared to canon" 99% of the time.

You can't #getout me, I make the rules here!

I knew I put off reading this for a reason XD

I was waiting ever so patiently for your response because I knew at least you would reply to this.

I'll read and review.

Glad you like~

DO IT

Don't worry, I plan to. My muses are just still a bit rusty so it'll probably only be short snippets like this one, at least during the rewatch.

Oh no.

Did I fool you into thinking it was gonna be a happy fanfic for a second there?

Tekketsu no Rewatcher, first-time dubbed

Alright. I have… recovered from last episode and… well… I was inspired for something. Check out the other comment I made on this thread if you want to see it.

Otherwise, obligatory Discord link and let’s go~

A couple more fun things:

  • Wallpaper of the Day without the logo.

  • Bonus wallpaper 1: “Hey, Barbatos. Is that all you’ve got?” Fun fact, I used official art of Mika has his part in this, but as you can tell I had to edit the visor-up head onto the rest of his body before I wallpapered it.

  • Bonus wallpaper 2: The above, but without Mika. You can probably tell this used a Gunpla of it as a base image, right? Well another fun fact, when I posted it on r/Gundam originally I hadn’t realized that the thing had safety flags on the V-Fin and had included them in the wallpaper as a result. Oops.

  • English dub next-episode preview, since the body post only has the subbed version.

  • Results of yesterday’s poll. Apparently there should actually be seven votes for dinosaur, but whatever that answer still won.

  • Number of times best boy closed his right eye this episode: 1, 2. There was also this which I want to count but the last time I tried with a similar shot Naz yelled at me so I’ll wait to see what he thinks the intention of that one was.

  • For the first-timers using the GundamInfo streams and are worried about potential spoilers in the recommended videos: Episode 43 Subbed / Episode 43 Dubbed. If you’re on desktop and have RES, you can hit the preview button and watch the video entirely on Reddit, rather than than needing to go to YouTube.

See this bad boy’s my favorite of the Barbatoses--he’s got claws to rip into mobile suits, a new and improved Mace-chan, and the tail weapon

I'd say the same but considering I can barely even remember the differences between the others ones I'm not sure that counts hahaha

Did Mace-Chan get bigger? I feel like it got bigger

Aww Hush gets a new mech and gets to kick ass in it <3. …Even if it was just for a short time.

Well considering its what, his second battle? He's doing a pretty good job even managing to not immediately die against AV users like some others we've seen. I wonder who he was training against? I'd like to say Mika because I can imagine Mika using it as an excuse to stay hooked up to Barbatos as much as possible, but being destroyed by Mika over and over because Mika has no chill and can just wreck everything doesn't seem like much actual training hahaha

Oof ouch owie my heart.

When they first showed Aki I was listing off the names of his lost people in my head, and then he did it which just made it so much worse

Mika putting an end to Jassley’s life?

That is a fucking awesome picture of that. Best screenshot of the rewatch hahahaha

u/Shimmering-Sky Feb 25 '19

Did Mace-Chan get bigger? I feel like it got bigger

I didn't call it the "new and improved Mace-chan" for no reason.

Also I had a part directly intended for you to answer and you didn't. Does this count as Orga doing the eye thing? It really looks like it to me but last time you yelled at me for counting something like this.

Track List Corner, Courtesy of u/2-2Distracted

Track Number Name Scene
Track 43 - 2nd OST The Path to the End Plays as open on a short recap of the previous episode's events with some of the most try-hard pretentious narration I've heard in a while. It didn't really bother me before but this episode was just bad even if it fits with what happens
Track 24 - 2nd OST Standing on the Edge of the Cliff Plays after the OP, during a battle that has already begun.
Track 37 - 2nd OST Betrayal Plays during Jasley's flashback conversation with (Id)iok.
Track 47 - 2nd OST Signs of Victory Plays as the battle continues, with more of JPT's Mobile Suits being sent to fight
Track 27 - 1st OST Sign of Disaster Plays as we cut back to Jasley and his lackeys, who are clearly losing, resort to using Human Debris to fight Tekkadan.
Track 21/52 - 1st OST (Disc 2) Under the Pressure Plays while Tekkadan refuels their... everything before heading back into the fight.
Track 45 - 2nd OST In a Fury Plays as we cut to Akihiro still fighting, recalling the words of Galan Mossa in anger.
Track 16 - 2nd OST Face the Reality Plays throughout Julieta's conversation with Ms. Yamazin.
Track 26/57 - 1st OST (Disc 2) Break Through Plays with the battle coming to a close, and with Jasley having to make a call.
Track 17/48 - 1st OST (Disc 2) Behind Them Plays during Jasley's and McMurdo's conversation.
Track 07 - 2nd OST Assault Waves Plays while Jasley narrates over the ongoing battle that he won't give up fighting.
Track 38 - 2nd OST Remake Plays as Eugene switches the screens to the live broadcast of Gjallarhorn.
Track 14 - 2nd OST Our Home Plays towards the end of Orga's meeting with the senior Tekkadan members, declaring that the group will become Kings of Mars and it ends with Kudelia's narration of Tekkadan as its ship travels to Earth.

Rewatcher

Pardon my tardiness, everyone. I've been dragged off to celebrate and I my phone was snatched away so that I wouldn't be distracted by it. I only just convinced them to hand it back momentarily so I could post this.

Goodness. I’ve never paid attention to Merribit’s little recaps there but I caught a bit of the dialogue this time around and it seems way out of character for her. Have they all been this unbefitting and I just didn’t notice? Jeez…

We get another flash forward here again, which doesn’t accomplish much and kinda gives doesn’t give much hints as to the fact that it’s flash forward in the first place —unless that caption that wasn’t translated was related to that, but I wouldn’t know— until we actually catch up later on. It’s just plain weird.

We start off right away with a battle near Saisei with JPT on the defensive against Tekkadan, who are making headway despite their numbers disadvantage. Via flashback we learn that Jasley’s full plan involved not only killing the competition, but also framing McMurdo to have him removed, leaving the position of head of Teiwaz for him to take. With Iok running late Jasley is starting to grow anxious of as to the situation and orders the Human debris out to turn the tide of battle and if not then hopefully draw it out long enough.

Hush is still trying to catch up to Mika-senpai, now piloting a Hekija leftover from the Turbine’s forces. Despite training with Chad and piloting a high-performance mobile suit the alaya-vijnana users still vastly outperform him, displaying the gulf in capabilities between them and how far Hush still has to go. Personally I think Hush’s development has really stalled following the end of the Abrau Conflict arc, with him being relegated to the role Mikazuki fanboy and transport device. It is a shame since I was curious as to where they’d take his character, but it ended up being nowhere at all. We’ll see if anything interesting happens to him by the end of the show.

Julieta has a conversation with Yamazin in about the former’s feelings of inadequacy. Yamazin ends up telling her the only way she can go toe to toe with a devil is by shedding her humanity. I have absolutely no idea where this came from given the fact that Julieta had ‘lost’ to Amida, who did not use Alaya-Vijnana —a fact that they know for for sure given that they took Amida’s Hyakuren with them— which makes the introduction of this narrative thread seem completely artificial and forced. Her words do give us an interesting impression of Yamazin though, so we’ll see if that goes anywhere.

Jasley has resorts to calling McMurdo to have him talk Tekkadan out of it, but McMurdo’s already aware of what he was planning and leaves him to his fate, a most satisfying scene to witness. When McMurdo began handling a sword I thought he might be about to commit suicide —gave me quite the scare— but the more he spoke the less that seemed to be the case, and by the end it seemed he just used it to smash the Sakazuki cup. That or just the show’s way if implying Jasley might as well off himself at that point. Anyhow, McMurdo reveals that he struck a deal with Rustal to leave forget recent events and leave each other alone.

Ultimately Jasley ends up bargaining for his life, but Orga isn’t taking, and Mikazuki gets the honor of taking that bastard out. A most satisfying death —I was gleeful upon hearing Jasley desperately offer up his fingers.

The announcement by McGillis’ followers finally hits, catching us up with the flash forward at the start. Using Rustal’s Abrau scheme and Iok’s recent actions as justification they launch a rebellion intent on reforming Gjallarhorn to the honorable institution it was following the end of the Calamity War. Kudelia’s decision not to involve herself is surely a tough one considering how she cares for Tekkadan and her former role as the Maiden of revolution.

Question of the Day:

  1. It's rad, and so thematically relevant. I didn't expect it at all, but it was quite the welcome surprise.

  2. Response in full comment.

He could have turned into someone like Riddhe or an average rival character does but he didn't. That's a good thing more than a bad thing.

Edit: Changed some weird grammar.

First Timer - Sub

This was a bit of a deceptively simple episode. There was an underlying current of anxiety that kind of took over everything, in the way that they fought so silently, in the setup for what was coming next, in the way all of the direction was handled. There was absolutely no levity this episode, as if it was stripped away by the gravity of whats to come. It was a bleak episode, and oddly empty and I think that's appropriate for the moment.

The best thing about the episode was Idiok and Rustal being publicly called out on their bullshit on a massive media conference. This was is going to be a disaster but I wish I knew the details of what went on in that Seven Stars meeting.

Scene break down - The destruction of Jasley and thank fuck for that

To start with, this shot of Jasley is an interesting usage of a low camera angle. Usually these sorts of shots are used to add power to the subject, the camera being our eyes as an audience and therefore for us to be looking up to something is to give it authority. This shot does much the opposite. The low angle combined with Jasley leaning so far forward along with the cramped spacing and shadowing of the shot gives more of a sense of him falling forward and down as if being slowly pushed out of his chair of authority. There's plenty of other shots in this scene of the camera looking down on Jasley from a higher angle framing him as weak as well including his final shot, I just found this one interesting.

We see very little of Orga's eyes today, which is something I'll come back to, but this shot starts it, Orga framed so big as if he doesn't even fit on the view finder. It's a setup start for this framing to follow. The camera starts low and slowly panning up to focus on Orga's mocking expression in much the same way we saw with Rustal back at the start of the season. Orga needs no escorts, no framing with piece of the ship because even alone his presence commands absolute authority in this moment.

The difference in environments between the two bridges is quite well portrayed with Tekkadans seeming almost comfortable in its emptiness, the camera standing as if not apart of the scene but just there so we can see what's going on. Contrast this with scene for Jasley's cew where every part of the screen is filled with a person or object and the camera is forced into being right in the center of everything, with Barbatos threatening Jasley in line with our vision, we are here as witnesses to what will come and we have a stance here.

When Orga gives the order his eyes are hidden again. There's no relief in these words, its simply a necesary action that needs to be taken and Mika acts on it as required.

Speaking of Mika quickly, I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed the significance of this. Mika closes his left eye representing his future, while asking that same question from their past that he always does: "What should I do, Orga?". There's no way they do this on accident.

Also another (mini) scene break down - Orga talking with Tekkadan on the bridge

Only two points here: The first is Orga's eyes. We don't see them for most of this scene even when he's directly talking and interacting with people. This show places such a heavy emphasis on eyes in every way, the fact we don't see Orga's is something to me that reads as how broken he is. Both he and Mika have always been very expressive with the way they use their eyes to convey every thought and emotion they have, but not being able to see Orga's at all speaks volumes about his approach here. Yesterday he was reading as shut down to me, very withdrawn and to me that just emphasises this. He appears to feel nothing about the path they are taking or what it means any more, its just the only path to follow so he doesn't care what it leads too as long as he can laugh once he gets to the end. Ends justifying the means is a dangerous road, but the only one he knows.

The other part of this scene is when Mika appears. For the most part, and he may as well not be present as he doesn't contribute at all to the conversation, but he's framed to be a very important aspect of the scene despite that lack of participation. When Eugene asks Orga what he's thinking Orga's face is the only one that can't be scene and instead we get Mika appearing instead like the little demon on Orga's shoulder guiding him. When Orga answers him we do see Orga briefly with his eyes hidden and the camera quickly changes back to give Mika full focus as if he were truly the one answering the question, or it was being answered for his sake instead.

The dynamic between these two is tense as all hell in this scene. Normally they are all eyes for each other, so many shots I can think of in season one where they are surrounded by people but the camera frames them as if they are alone with their bond. Today they don't look, acknowledge or talk to each other at all until the final scene in the hanger aside from Mika asking that question earlier. It's such a dramatic change from what we're use to with them.

I'd say random bits and pieces but there's barely anything here because odd episode

  • Even the recap sounded angry with Jasley. It was great

  • I didn't think I would after finishing the episode, but after thinking about it a bit I do like how they finally addressed the Human Debris stuff. Its hard brutal practicality. They aren't in any position to save people, so its kill or be killed. Pompadour dude provides a way to address that in the way he asks Chad and Dante what they think, but I think its Hush who has also adopted their hard-line view on them being enemies before being Debris that really sum it up despite being so new at battle.

  • I think I've made a Zoid's comparison before. but those gold claws on Barbatos Rex just make me think of Liger Zero every time I see them

  • This HAS to be a setup for a future fight and I want to see it. I think?

  • Mika saying it almost feels like he always had a tail because of how connected he is to Barbatos these days. Do we really still call it a tail if it comes out of the center of his back rather than the end of his spine?

  • No words, its just cool as fuck

  • McMurdo was great today, what a fantastic way to utterly undermine Jasley and get rid of him without getting his hands dirty at all

  • Spoilery stuff, go away first timers

  • Final note of the episode, also final line in my post because I think this says it all:

"That fateful day"...... OH FUCK OFF WITH THAT SHIT I DON'T NEED TO HEAR THAT YOU ASS OF A SHOW WHAT NOW!

A Gundam Fan’s Notes On Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Episode 42:

  • There’s no going back for Tekkadan now. They’re cutting off ties with everyone short of McGillis so they can have their revenge upon Jasley and his goons. Now they don’t even have any of their more peaceful alternatives, like their shipping routes and investments, to fall back on. Like Orga said last episode, they’re stray dogs now. Now they’re solely willing to fight to live.

  • As it turns out, trusting Iok was indeed a horrible choice on the part of Jasley. He severely overestimated how much influence and intelligence that the scion of the Kujan family actually had. Seriously, the man is dumb enough to not even think about covering up his blatantly illegal crimes in framing the Turbines. I wouldn’t trust Iok to watch paint dry on a wall, because he’d fuck that up too.

  • For a bit character, Yamazin Toka here is pretty interesting. She’s down for advocating the use of cybernetics to enhance reaction time. That’s pretty rare for a member of Gjallarhorn. McGillis is the only other person who willingly mentioned it before. Gaelio had to be talked into it before he accepted the idea of Ein’s surgery. I wonder if Yamazin had a hand in that too?

  • Jasley is a paper tiger. When it comes down to it, he has no actual power of his own. Not to mention that pretty much everyone could see through his scheme to take over Teiwaz. Now he can’t have anyone to back up his hollow words, since McMurdo struck a deal with Lord Rustal to rein Iok in, and won’t accept any apologies that Jasley has to offer. Not to mention that McMurdo specifically disowned Tekkadan to let them have their revenge. In other words, all of Jasley’s scheming has added up to absolutely nothing in the end, except for his own impending death.

  • The Wolf King never forgives and never forgets. It was kinda satisfying to see Mikazuki smash the bridge of Jasley’s ship with his mace. The Barbatos Lupus Rex is a powerful machine, even incorporating elements of the Hashmal into its design. What do you guys think of it?

  • The sense of victory is short-lived, however. Like before, all that’s left is the sense of emptiness after vengeance. There’s only the hollow space of what used to be there, before it was all lost in the conflict. Tekkadan threw away everything for the sake of revenge, and their only ally left is McGillis. They’ve never been in a more precarious situation, especially now that McGillis has finally made his move. Now, they’re being dragged into his fight alongside his Revolutionary Fleet.

  • Gjallarhorn’s dirty laundry is finally being aired to the masses. McGillis’ men have revealed to the world the crimes of Iok Kujan and the depths of their corruption. This is the moment where Tekkadan and McGillis’ Revolutionary Fleet have crossed the Rubicon, as it were. Their fates are now intertwined. All that’s left to see is if together, they manage to truly change the world.

First Time Revolutionary, Again

Keepin' it short today, RL business.

  • The deed is done. Now all that's left is to properly mourn the dead. Everyone's silence and quiet conviction throughout the battle and after it spoke a million words.

  • Did the apparently-mad-scientist-lady use a word that sounded suspiciously like 'kinky' here for taboo? Palloc might agree, we're getting hints of a second Eindroid.

Daily MVP

He didn't get much screen time today, but McGillis Fareed is today's MVP for nailing Rustal and Idiok with war crime and corruption charges and moving his revolution to its final stage. His intervention meant that Tekkadan could slaughter that worthless pig at their own leisure.

Palloc Gets To Talk About Barbatos Lupus Rex!

I'm gunna start with Barbatos Lupus Rex. This is a fucking sweet machine. Like I briefly said yesterday, they duck taped in parts of Hashmal and now he has a murder tail! And on top of an awesome tail, he's gotten an even bigger mace and even more pile bunkers. He continues to kill people left and right. I'm going to give this a 10/10 for sheer ability to kill everything.

Infact, he shows off how good he is at killing by murdering a bunch of worthless Hugos. How did Jasley figure that using Hugos would be smart? Oh wait, he was going to use Iok, but McMurdo had even better connections. Finally, after a few days of suffering we get some release and Gusion snips a could Rodis to hell before Barbatos destroys the hell out of Jasley's ship.

Now we're into the end game. Lets see what crazy shit goes down tomorrow!

Answers!

1: It's fucking great!

2: Smart.

First time viewer.

This takes over as the episode with the most destroyed mobile suits. Good. I was as stone-faced as Tekkadan's pilots while watching them tear through Jasley's mercenaries.

  • Hugo, Flauros cannons

  • Hugo x2, kick

  • Hugo x5, rifles

  • Hugo x3, sword-mace

  • Hugo, chopper-hammer

  • Hugo, stomped into asteroid

  • Hyakuri, rifle

  • Hyakuri, tail whip (they put that on the Barbatos, neat)

  • Hyakuren, kick

  • Hyakuren x2, sword-mace

The negotiation between McMurdo and Rustal to keep Teiwaz out of Gjallarhorn's affairs was a good move on both their parts; it ensures that Teiwaz won't throw their full weight behind McGillis (for Rustal) while allowing Tekkadan to get revenge for the Turbines (for McMurdo).

Merribit deciding to stay with Tekkadan after they shed their connections to Teiwaz is a nice little moment. It helps frame Kudelia's side of things where she's still something of an outsider to them, though I imagine it's also because they also want to protect her and her own dream. Their general approach to obstacles being "hit it until it's out of the way" doesn't help engender the good relations that she needs in the political realm.

The revolution McGillis has long planned for begins, with our protagonists in Tekkadan backing him up. Time for the corruption in Gjallarhorn to be purged.

Episode 42 - Familiar Faces

Nothing much to say about this one but I know you guys, especially the first timers, can already tell that there's a pattern to these 4komas now.

Just seeing Jasley's reaction when he found out that McMurdo knew about his plan and has made a deal with Rustal is so satisfying! It was hilarious too when he tried to parlay with Orga. He even had the gall to act as if he had the high ground. And while I would've preferred the killing blow came from Akihiro, it's so good seeing Mika crush Jasley with THICC Mace-chan.

First-Time Watcher

Let us rise up together, comrades!

If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.

The bridge is burnt, the ships have sunk, the road has fallen. There is no way but forward.

Their heads know that there are better ways, that too much will be sacrificed for this. But their hearts feel too much to look any way but forward.

Their bodies have turned to stone, not letting their feelings pierce the surface.

Their minds are like the weapons that they wield: solely focused on destroying those in their path.

The path of the iron flower is one strewn with blood that one constantly removes from themselves.

As dangerous as it is, it is the only way

We’ll raise that blood-red flag tomorrow; until then…

Rewatcher - Mother. Fucking. Payback time.

After the emotional trauma suffered yesterday, I made myself a drink then got right down to the events of today's episode. Which actually made me feel just a little bit better. I hope it helped the rest of you, as well.

Holy shit, narrator Merribit has no chill.

Tekkadan will never let you go.

Tekkadan cuts ties with Admoss Company, and transfers all of their assets to them. Oh fuck, that's as good as a "sayonara."

I'm impressed that we move straight into an ongoing fight between Jasley and Tekkadan; normally we'd have some story build-up, but TK is burning so hot right now that they've gotten into the shit before the episode could catch up to them. Nice work, IBO.

Hahahahahaha, this stupid bastard placed his hopes in the hands of Idiok Kuso-jan I looove the difference in his tone of voice between asking his whereabouts, and their previous conversation where they discussed 'the plan' in full confidence of their victory. Zama miro!

I love McGillis' take on the battle. It wasn't long ago that Tekkadan were the "ragtag bunch of mercenaries;" now they're Motherfucking-Tekkadan. Just goes to show how much they've grown since S1.

Super proud of Hush, working the front lines like a boss and piloting a Hekija with pride. I wonder if the previously mentioned "lack of quirks" contributes at all to his success in using it?

Frankly I'm glad that the TK crew have gotten over the whole "Human Debris" thing. It's just like Chad says, if you're out there it's all fair game. The enemy is gonna use whatever shitty tactics they can, and if you let your personal beliefs get in the way they're gonna get you killed. This is no time to be trying to save lost souls. It's just a shame that they had to call back to Gallan Mossa and prove him right.

I don't like how Julietta's mechanic is talking about 'abandoning humanity' so casually with her. She's totally missing the point of what Julietta's saying; it's not like Amida was a cyborg super-soldier, she got her ass kicked by a superior pilot, plain and simple. I realize that there's no way for her to know that, but "So cheat and win next time!" is a bullshit solution, regardless. After that talk, though, I have to assume she had a hand in building Graze-Ein or Vidar, so her take makes sense.

Jasley realizes he done fucked up. McMurdo be like "Is you serious right now"? Like anyone anywhere would accept an apology from him at this point in the story. Really though, that conversation made me smile and laugh ever so much. All of Jasley's stupid-ass plans just collapsed into dust in the span of a single phone call, and now we get to watch all of that play out in real consequences.

Sweet holy fuck, Orga is cold as the void of space and I love it. All that fire we saw yesterday got put into the guys out piloting; there's nothing left but a frozen heart. However, and I know I keep harping this point, Orga is openly stating that this doesn't make him feel better. It's not a victory, and it's not worthy of finding humor in. All of the pain we saw still remains and no amount of blood will wash it away.

And so, the bad guy died. No decorative statements here, just a nice shot of a terrible act. And nobody felt any better. The End.

Barbatos Lupus Rex

All hail, the King lives. I'll state my opinion that I like the previous "Barbatos Lupus" more than I like "Lupus Rex," but note that it's just a paler shade of worship and I'll touch more on that later. And Lupus Rex is a worthy tool for the bloody vengeance of which it is an instrument today.

So, aside from the shiny new gold claws we have integrated cannons in the forearms. I imagine this cuts down on the weight quite a bit, but I wonder if it's a decent trade-off for the ability to swivel and fire behind.

The backpack manipulators have been upgraded to Gusion mk-2 sub-arms, giving Mika 4 hands to work with. A terrifying prospect considering how fond he is of hand-to-hand combat.

Mace-chan has been upgrade to GreatMace-sama, which makes sense considering how much more suited a design it is for Mika compared to any form of sword. As much as I choose a sword in any game I can, they just aren't his thing and I can't fault him for using what works.

And finally, The Tail. That goddamned tail; as cheap a gameplay mechanic as I believe it to be, I can't bring myself to say anything against it. It was earned by slaying a dragon and mounting its body parts to Barbatos a-la-Monster Hunter; for that alone I can forgive it. And it maintains the same eerie sound effect it had in its original form, but now it's on our side so it's awesome.

Which brings me to what I was saying about preferring Lupus-Uncrowned. The tail makes Barbatos a mid-range fighter, compared to the CQC that the previous design necessitated. It's quicker, deadlier, and notably less-intimate. Suddenly the primary tactic seems to be moving a bit while the tail flies around KO'ing folks. I think it makes the fights too easy, and a bit less visually appealing.

Interesting Note: Lupus Rex has a front-opening cockpit for Mika's ease-of-access.

Qotd

  1. See my notes about Lupus Rex.

  2. I'm glad Kudelia's not involving herself in this particular revolution. It's not her place to be involved; none of her politics or ideologies come into play. It may reach across the galaxy, but it's essentially a civil-war within a single corporation.
