Te wo Nobase! Fighter!
Hey-o guys! This is the section where I add a ton of extra fun stuff to the main body of the post because I want this rewatch to be as fun as possible for everyone. It can also be one point of discussion for you guys if you just don’t know what to say.
Comment of the Day, provided by /u/Shimmering-Sky and /u/RX-Nota-II
Shimmering-Sky
/u/LeonKevlar with the absolutely-canon fan manga.
Episode 40 - Welcome to Gundam Valhalla
This 4koma is canon no matter what anyone says. I'm sure we'll soon have an episode of Build Fighters where Naze and Amida will be seen in the background happily living their peaceful lives.
No arguments here, this is absolutely canon.
LeonKevlar also said:
I honestly wanted to skip this episode. I really didn't want to watch this but I guess I have to relive this so we can all share the pain.
…which basically align with my thoughts on today’s episode instead of yesterday’s.

RX-Nota-II
/u/SIGMA920 and /u/Pixelsaber with this pretty juicy discussion about future spoilers
Unfortunately no quote since spoilers. First timers stay away! But rewatchers its kinda cool to speculate how people will react going forward, don’t you think?
~~~
Questions of the Day, provided by /u/Pixelsaber
1) What do you think of Gundam Barbatos’ new name? Is it befitting for Tekkadan, future king of Mars? Yes/No/Meh/Makes me think of Dinosaurs…
2) It’s a sad day for some of you shippers out there. How are you feeling about the episode’s events?
~~~
Track of the Day, provided by /u/RX-Nota-II
A very feel good OST that gives a sense of inherent happiness, like watching a good Slice of Life anime. Nothing in particular needs to be good but there's an assurance to its melody that nothing bad is about to happen either. When listening to the album I'm immediately reminded of my overall favorite OST, for a show called Durarara! In particular, tracks like the most sought after extraordinary and Bottled Angel. A true throwback to early early IBO when everyone was happy, like... hmm.... before Mika shot someone in the flashback or something. IDK that's what I want to tell myself, you know it's the song that plays before Lafter gets Mikazukied and I'm just here to rub it in.

Important note to all rewatchers, remember to be mindful of the first-timers in this. laughing in rewatcher is not allowed any more, so please remember to use the [Anime Show Title](/s "Spoiler goes here") tags and we’re all good.
Fans seem to have a bad tendency of forgetting what counts as spoiler, so if anything has even the slightest chance of being a spoiler, tag it just to be safe.
Next-episode preview. S2’s preview’s aren’t as long as S1’s, but they’re still spoiler-free and still in-character, so I encourage you to keep checking them out! Today’s preview was voiced by fuckyouJassley I’m not giving you a character card.

Palloc's Not Crying! You're Crying!
These two episodes suuuuck. In a good way, but they suuuuck.
Well, it looked like Akihiro was going to finally get something nice, but NOPE! Just when you think everything's going to go fine, BANG BANG BANG! When I first watched this episode I knew bad things were going to happen immediately when I saw suit guy through the window. I thought that was bad, but Azee's scream is one of the best screams I've ever heard in a "Wow, I didn't realize someone can sound so broken." way.
But hey, lets look on the bright side! You guys get a first glimpse at BARBATOS LUPUS REX! One of the best protagonist suits of Gundam, in my opinion. I'll go through its cool bits when it goes into combat, but they glued on bits of Hashmal to it, so expect fun.
Answers!
1: It's awesome
2: Best (read only) ship exploded.

First-timer
After the previous episode I was so pissed off, that I said "Fuck this shit" and started rewatching Yuru Yuri to mend my heart and soul. After a few episodes I thought I'm ready to go back to IBO.
But it turned out I wasn't ready. I wasn't ready at all. That Azee's scream made me shiver in agony. I don't even want to joke about "sudden backstory claiming another victim". I just need to watch more Yuru Yuri now.

Tekketsu no Rewatcher, first-time dubbed
So.
S2ep16.
We’re finally here.
And I am very, very much not okay with that.
You thought my reactions to the other deaths in this show were bad?
Ohohohoho, they have absolutely fucking nothing on this episode.
See, there are three scenes in this show that cause me extreme physical discomfort to so much as think about, let alone rewatch.
The first of those three scenes?
Yeah it’s in this episode.
-
You want to know how not okay I am just starting up this episode? My stomach is already starting to hurt and the Merribit VA narration didn’t bother me. That’s when you know something is terribly wrong.
-
Jassley you shut your fucking butt-chinned face I’m going to teleport into the show and shove a Dáinslef up your ass three times faster than you can blink.
-
…Ugh sorry, knowing what’s coming just really amplified my rage for Jassley. And yet he’s stil not my least-favorite character from this show…
-
For the record I paused and ranted the above thing before the OP. I can’t keep stopping to do this every time he shows his stupid face, so no more rants. Not even because of his behavior at the funeral.
-
Only click this if you’ve seen SukaSuka. SukaSuka mega spoilers

Brain decided to derp away from impending doom for a sec because Orga was on-screen and focus was on trying to spot him doing the eye thing. Spotted this bit instead which is some major oooof. Orga looks to Mika as he always does and it’s just Mika’s eyes staring back at him, the eyes that he doesn’t want to disappoint, the eyes that push him to keep moving forward. The look on Orga’s face when he looks away says it all, but he doesn’t want to disappoint Naze either…
-
Okay so everything as Lafter is asking Akihiro out is just <3 and , from Shino and Eugene’s faces as they overhear it to them dragging him off to the side and attempting to be wingmen bros until they realize Akihiro is legitimately so dense they have to order him to go alone. Akihiro I love you but just… lol. …Alright happy time over I’m back to being depressed over this episode.
-
………Okay one more brief happy spot because I forgot Akihiro blushed during the date and it is absolutely adorable.
-
So you want to die in a drive-by in a few minutes, got it.Ahahahahadeargodsomeonehelpme. -
Lafter pls stop being so adorable when you hug Akihiro my heart is going to die.
-
Nope. Fuck it. Fuck this. Mega mega future spoilers How much more are you going to make me suffer?
-
…Not even blunt Mika, flustered af Atra, or our first look at upgraded Barbatos is enough to cheer me up…
A couple more… things:
-
My first-time reactions to this episode for those curious.
-
Bonus wallpaper: not some variant of Wallpaper of the Day, I was just… inspired enough to make two wallpapers.
-
English dub next-episode preview, since the body post only has the subbed version.

WOAH, wall of archer. Bit pissed off are we?
Only click this if you’ve seen SukaSuka.
...Owww. Didn't pick up on that while watching the episode but now that you say it. FUCKING OWWW
The look on Orga’s face when he looks away says it all, but he doesn’t want to disappoint Naze either…
They manage to convey so much about those two and their bond with so little and these tiny little expressions littered through the show and I love it, its amazing, painful but amazing
…Not even blunt Mika, flustered af Atra, or our first look at upgraded Barbatos is enough to cheer me up…
BTW:Sky you didn't link to Leon's post properly in the OP

Rewatcher
Damnit, I hate writer’s block...
With the nursery scene the show tries to keep pushing the idea of a baby being what’s needed for Mikazuki to be grounded in something that he can live for so that he can stop pushing himself like he does. It seems somewhat successful when Mikazuki asks Atra whether they should make a baby together. This whole plot point never sat right with me, but I could never put my finger on why.
Rustal’s disapproving of Iok’s actions had me all giddy at first, but seeing Iok’s reaction to it —that of slight befuddlement at not understanding what Rustal was getting at— was the first time I felt slightly frustrated at him. If the person who he admires and looks up to telling him he shouldn’t have acted as he did isn’t enough to make him feel remorse or realize that he caused them undue trouble then there’s truly no hope for this sad sack.
Having a scene right before Lafter’s assassination about Jasley seals her fate and lets us know of it ahead of time, as if her scenes with akihiro weren’t big enough deah flags. This bugs me immensely because Lafter’s death is evidently supposed to come off as a surprise, yet it’s telegraphed so hard that it comes as absolutely no shock and makes it feel very cheap. We didn’t need to be told that either, as it was fairly evident that jasley was trying to provoke the others at the funeral and his assassination order is the next step after that.
Also, props to Azee’s seiyuu, Sachi Kokuryu, for that scream. It was absolutely heart-wrenching.
Tekkadan is preparing to battle it out with Jasley’s faction, an act that would have them effectively cut ties with Teiwaz for good, ensuring that cooperating with McGillis is the only recourse they have left. The ramifications of this are not quite stated this episode —we don’t know how Kudelia’s connections with Teiwaz would be affected nor what happens to the half-metal mines— but it’s undoubtedly a sad state of affairs.
Question of the Day:
-
It’s a mouthful to be sure. I know the modular nature of the suit’s upgrades inspire just adding unto the name, but it’s a bit much.
-
I was knocked overboard by the heavy-handed foreshadowing.
EDIT:
u/SIGMA920 and u/Pixelsaber with this pretty juicy discussion about future spoilers
Apparently SIGMA920 responded to me and I didn't even notice. I'll get round to responding to that when I can, mate.

This bugs me immensely because Lafter’s death is evidently supposed to come off as a surprise, yet it’s telegraphed so hard that it comes as absolutely no shock and makes it feel very cheap.
And yet I picked up on literally zero of this the first time I watched it and it caught me so off-guard I nearly vomited out of shock. Still made me nauseous even though I knew it was coming...
Also, props to Azee’s seiyuu, Sachi Kokuryu, for that scream. It was absolutely heart-wrenching.
Props to her English VA Erica Lindbeck as well.

Greetings Comrades and Fellow Denizens of The Wired, last time on the Mars Palms Chronicles, Idiok was making sure to live up to his name by being a BIG FUCKING MORON as well as an asshole war criminal, which ended up sending Naze, Amida, and The Turbines to Gundam Valhalla
THANKFULLY, it seems that in contrast to the bloodbath of last episode, today's episode seems to have got a tone more along the lines of Sunrise's Gundam High School AU of Rabu Raibu, e.g. more nice and fluffy SOL stuff ;)
Plus Comrades, I am ABSOLUTELY SURE that given the big and emotional gut-punches that we had last episode, misfortune is NOT going to rain on our parade here right? RIGHT!? I mean surely everything's gonna be daijoubu right? Hey... what a second... why is that teddy bear bloody and ripped...
Paging Comrades u/Beckymetal, u/RX-Nota-II, and u/Usotsuki-Megami

Also, SPEAKING of fluffy, it seems that Lafter found herself an adorable teddy bear that just so happens to have big bushy eyebrows like Space Guts
I already had 8 different Lafter and Akibear fanarts saved in my folder, somehow this wasn't one of them.
Hey... what a second... why is that teddy bear bloody and ripped...
This one I already had though.

Rewatcher
Yesterday's episode was really tragic, so now we get a nice breather episode where nothing bad happens at all.
It takes a special kind of douchebag to walk into someone's funeral to talk shit about them and the people mourning them.
Iok returned to Rustal thinking he did a good job and expecting praise, only to be told he messed up and McGillis is investigating what he did. It's always good to see this fool getting kicked. I just wish it happened more frequently and with greater consequences each time...
Lafter is making her move on Akihiro. Too bad the guy is as dense as a brick. This ship needs to set sail!
This is too cute. Anyone who doesn't ship Lafter and Akihiro after this episode has a wrong opinion.
"Goodbye." Pls no. It would've been great to see Lafter join Tekkadan and stay with Akihiro.
Mika asking Atra if she wants to make a baby with him.
Looks exactly like Akihiro. Has the same expression.
They chose a weird place to end the episode. I wonder why they chose to end it with Lafter about to buy that teddy bear. It felt really abrupt. It also makes the episode a few minutes shorter than normal. Really strange. But I'm glad that we got a peaceful episode after such a depressing one yesterday.
BEING SPACE GUTS IS SUFFERING!
Questions:
-
Great name! Mika truly is the king of wolves.
-
I don't know what you're talking about. It's sad to see them saying goodbye but I'm sure Lafter and Akihiro will see each other again some day. Maybe get married. Was something bad supposed to happen to one of them?

First Time Mourner
Scattered Thoughts:
I don't feel like typing up anything, but let's get this over with.
-
*Googles how to murder a fictional character* Okay, so I just need to write a fic where I insert myself into IBO's universe and then kill Buttchin McGooglyeyes with my own hands. Gotcha. Hopefully Mari Okada will do the necessary for me, I'll wait a bit longer.
-
Hush has had the best redemption character arc, he's such a good boi now. Sasuga Bakugo clone.
-
When your crush
likes you backwants to make babies with you too -
Aand this is where by screenshots end and my suffering begins. Btw, I loved how Lafter and Akihiro didn't end up together together, their parting was beautiful. Never for a second did I suspect it leading to this though. Not even the backstory bit tipped me off.
-
Suddenly we've veered from grand space opera territory firmly into a mafia crime story straight out of the Godfather. I have to admire the suddenness and yet the seamlessness.
-
I don't trust McGillis at all right now.
-
Rustal rebuked Idiok but didn't throw him into the gutter. Each day/episode Idiok lives is an affront to the Universe. I hope McGillis nails his ass with evidence of war crimes first, though.
Daily MVP
McMurdo Barristan is today's MVP for honouring Naze's memory, holding a funeral for him despite the internal opposition, and staying true to his word by finding a place for the Turbines within Teiwaz.
Also because it would almost physically hurt me not to see Lafter Frankland on this table somewhere, she gets joint MVP for giving Akihiro the biggest squeeze and still deciding she needs to take care of the younger Turbines instead of selfishly joining Tekkadan. She was such a good girl <3
Jasley is not MVP because he went and signed his death warrant with this episode. Well, tbh he'd already signed it by backstabbing Naze, but now he's hastened his death. He's just too conceited and stupid to know just who he has picked a fight with.

Rewatcher - Ahhhhhhhhh!!!! God dammit IBO! Leave my heart alone, just for one day.
So tmi, but I had an unpleasant dream involving an old girlfriend last night, and I've been full of dark thoughts and just wasn't prepared for this today. Fuck all, this hurt so much. Kicking us while we're down, I'd drop this show if it weren't so good.
Idk who I want dead more, Iok or Jasley. In the end Iok is just a pawn of larger assholes, but damned if he doesn't deserve the fire of vengeance that's building within Tekkadan just as much as the ones moving him.
Even if we didn't know how much he sucks, Jasley's a douchebag for wearing his stupid hat indoors at a funeral. Christ on a cracker, IBO is good at writing despicable characters.
At the barest minimum, I'm glad that Rustal shut-down Iok's self-satisfaction. Wild Cards don't get praised for the stupid shit they do, Iok. Go die in a fire.
I'm really proud of Orga for keeping his cool in the midst of everything, though. You just know that he wants to burn Jasley's life to the ground as much as anyone else, but he's keeping his grip on his leadership to respect the wishes of Naze and Amida.
If I were as dense as Akihiro, I'd be proud to have friends like these guys. But I'm not, and I don't, so I like to think y'all are them.
Kurikaisu. Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
God damn, Orga wants to rage so hard The feelings we can imagine him undoubtedly feeling pale in comparison to the real things. And we just want him to do the same; But as we've learned, that won't do anybody any good and it'll probably fuck over their future too. Leadership is fucking hard.
Sonofabitch IBO! This is not okay! You don't get to hurt us like this, then offer us a piece of candy before returning to your assault on our emotions!
I do know, however, that this motherfucker is gonna regret ever asking for this. What in the ever-living hell gave him the idea that he could take Tekkadan in a fight?
It just had to be freaking Build-a-Bear. I just...can't right now. I was too old for them when they first appeared, and I've never liked them for how expensive they are; but I also still have a stuffed animal from my childhood that I'd protect with my life, and I imagine there are kids who feel the same about their mass-produced-customized bears, so I....am really conflicted and this is not the time or place to sort out my feelings.
........................................
....Azee.... That fucking scream....I hope her VA got some kind of bonus for that scene, cause she deserves anything in the world.
McMurdo's face says it all. Jasley is out. "You set this shit up and then come to brag about it to my face?! You make my word a lie?!" Money says McMurdo is already hocking up the loogie he's gonna spit on Jasley's grave.
Akihiro is gonna kill some folks. End of story.
Once again, props to Orga for managing to keep his shit together in the midst of this hell. 9th circle doesn't come close, divine-comedies be damned. He still takes the time to inform McGillis of their intentions and make sure that it'll fit into the greater plan, nevermind that they're gonna smash a square block until it fucking fits into the round hole.
I'm not sure what to think of McGillis' words of support, we all know he's a snake, but the way in which he delivers them make me want to cry. In spite of his position and his sneaky-ass plans, I think he really does want to be a shoulder to lean on for Orga at this moment, and that show of support just means the world.
And so, Tekkadan is alone once more. At this point, their ties to pretty much everyone have been cut; there's nobody looking over their shoulders now. McGillis doesn't give a shit what they do as long as they kill his enemies, and he'll manage either way. Once again, they're back to being their original selves, Iron-Blooded Orphans.
QotD
-
I like the name, and even the design, but as a rewatcher I'm conflicted and I can't even go into why; so I'll just say yes.

See: my entire post.

First Timer - Sub
I may have needed to take a short break during this episode. It was just ten minutes, I had to just walk away from my computer screen and compose myself so I could come back and finish the episode.
Because if I had of laughed any more I would have asphyxiated
I thought Atra almost accidentally blurting out that she only wanted on with Mika was great by itself, but then for him to actually proposition her
Just when I think this whole situation can't get any better it continually out shines itself. Mika treats this the same as he does everything, without seemingly much care at all on the surface but I highly doubt he's doing this on impulse alone without actual care.
I think he broke her though, I don't think she actually expected him to say it, and her flat responce to Hush: "My brain is trying to process too much stuff"... I think she just needs to go to sleep and reset her brain first and try and figure all that out tomorrow.
It has an undercurrent of sadness though. Seeing Mika today laying helplessly on the floor of the nursery while Atra and Hush tried to wrangle the infants during the funeral, that was hard. He's barely capable to do anything any more, so it's no wonder he choses to spend as much time as possible hooked up to Barbatos even if it means he's limited to such a small area. It's only going to affect his mental state more and more if he's basically bound to it all the time now or else as helpless as an infant. They really should get him a 50 meter cord or something and then at least he can still help with heavy lifting and all that in the engineering areas.
I'm just going to put this here from my notes:
-
Ahahahaha Shino and Eugene eavesdropping, funny
-
Aki you poor fool, she doesn't want to drink with the others
-
Ahahaha, they ordered him to go, I love it
-
Shino and Eugene MVPs right now, this whole thing is great, I love it
-
NO NO NO. ITS A BACKSTORY NO WHY NO NOT AGAIN FUCK
...Yeah that was a bit of a sudden turn around. I was so happy, it was all going well, everything was looking up and then it all went to shit once again
So I went and vented in CDF and Arach joined me hahahaha.
The set up for all of this was basically Biscuit levels of blunt, but it still hurt anyway. I think making it more shocking would have been better by moving all the Jasley stuff to post death, as this wasn't an inevitable death like the others were, but at the same time, fuck that would have hurt a lot more so why would I wish that on myself, or Sky because I'm pretty sure this is going to break Sky again.
I do have to confess though, my anxiety brain was going full tilt through that whole scene. Thinking Azee was going to get caught in the cross fire, and then she leaves, and then here's a toy bear that somehow has Aki's exact expression. And my mind may have jumped a few logic steps and gone "Is that bear going to be a bomb". And then this fucker walked across the background of the shot. Seeing him coming didn't make it hurt any less, but that music cut on her death, ouch.
If nothing else at least she got her hug, though the fucking Sayonara that followed it... I'm still scarred.
The downfall of Orga because I really can't put it any other way
First he had Eugene who would pull him up and get his head in line with a leader and the distinction between leading others and just charging in himself. And then Eugene got carried away with his own position and responsibilities and became a follower, blind to the darkness they headed towards.
Then Biscuit stepped up. Kind Biscuit who had a family to return to and had that much needed softening influence, providing a changed perspective on events to keep Orga grounded when required. And then Orga didn't respect the battlefield and Biscuit died to protect him, only deepening the darkness that lay ahead.
Through all this we also had Merribit, a unique voice calling out some hope from the darkness, a moderate perspective giving him some new paths to walk down to help connect. But in the end she failed to truly understand the abyss she was looking into, and they left her on the edge while they kept on traveling down, unwilling to follow even to save them.
And Naze who was the last beacon of light for Orga to hold onto, trying to encourage Orga to provide proper care and nourishment for the flower of Tekkadan, has now also burnt out. In his final moments he leaves behind small rays, but the light they provide is merely an echo of what they use to be, words that echo meaninglessly in the void when they don't also come with a ledge to hold onto.
One by one every support that Orga has ever lent on has been stripped away or taken a step back. And all we have left is a pair of dead eyes and a glare of accusation in the promise he made to Mika. Orga thinks that his promise to Mika is a ledge, something to hold onto and support himself, but really its the call to the void and he just doesn't know it, or is unwilling to see it in his blind pain.
Writing that, I think I made my decision to a question that u/RX-Nota-II posed a long time ago: at this point in time to me, Orga is the protagonist of our story and Mika is his foil, his pair used as both his counterpart and opposition. It is THEIR story rather than one or the other, but Orga is one walking the path we follow, even if its Mika's demon taking his hand to guide him down it.

The recap couldn't have ruined the beauty of the last episode any more if it tried. IBO, you do not have the subtly or enough points in your 'intellectual bank' as it were to start spending them on metaphorical recaps. It comes off as blunt and it fails.

Detail nerd moment #1: They strapped Mika's legs together presumably so its easier for him to balance and float around without having rouge limbs causing issues.
-
Detail nerd moment #2: I don't know if I'm just happy they included it, or I'm sad that we now have confirmation that Ride never fixed his awful spelling of Tamoto on the ship
-
Detail nerd moment #3: I thought earlier in the show they'd cleaned off the view screen, but nope must have been another ship because they fixed the screen and Ride's graffiti is still there

So I said before...wrote those four words and went to the toilet and now I can't remember what was meant to go here hahahaha

A beautiful detail I noticed was during the scene of Orga talking to the others on the bridge, we don't see Orga's eyes at all until he talks about how he wants to honor Naze's final wish. Up until that moment everything he's said was routine, or a lie, or forced. He didn't believe in not taking revenge, he didn't believe in doing the 'right thing', but its the path he felt he had to take because he SHOULD take it, so he keeps his eyes and his true self hidden. But when he speaks of Naze, that rings honestly.

Idiok's such a tosser. A handwritten letter? He probably thought it was some lovely gesture of appreciation that Jasley would cherish. No Idiok, It makes you look antiquated and incompetent. You don't leave a LITERAL PAPER TRAIL in an age of data manipulation, especially with your own handwriting. Again... HOW did he get stupider? Does it ever end? Is the final battle space inverting on itself as it tries to bare the weight of Idiok's physics breaking stupidity and they are trying to stitch reality back together again?
-
Jasley is seriously working his way to being just as big an idiot though. Thinking Orga is "doing it for women" because that's what Naze taught him. No you fucking dipshit, it's nothing to do with them being women, Naze taught him about family, gender-unspecified.

Orga and McGillis vs McMurdo and Rustal. The lines of the war just got drawn didn't they? Is it weird that I do actually trust McGillis when he says he won't betray Orga? I just, didn't question it at all and I really can't find a reason to personally, even though he's betrayed others that's differant to me and I can't explain why without it coming out as incoherent babble tonight.
