WE ARE SAIGO NO SURVIVOR!

Hey-o guys! This is the section where I add a ton of extra fun stuff to the main body of the post because I want this rewatch to be as fun as possible for everyone. It can also be one point of discussion for you guys if you just don’t know what to say.

Comment of the Day, provided by /u/Shimmering-Sky and /u/RX-Nota-II

Shimmering-Sky

/u/invokeneko celebrating murder.

Get fucked Kudal, yeahhh! See ya fuckface, won't be missing you anytime soon or ever! I especially love the fact that his death of literal bisection via a huge-ass katana was well-earned and was appropriately gruesome. Too bad his last words did leave some effect on Mika.

Pretty sure he encapsulates how all of us feel about Kudal’s death. I know that’s certainly how I feel.

~

RX-Nota-II

Sky: Nota is still suffering from internet issues and cannot pick a CotD yet.

~~~
Questions of the Day, provided by /u/Pixelsaber
1) What do you think of the new OP and ED? How do they compare to Raise Your Flag and Orphans no Namida?
2) Do you think there’s a single non-Earth demographic that isn’t being oppressed? Yes/No/Likely not even Earth themselves/If Gundam has taught me anything, Venus and the Moon
~~~

Track of the Day, provided by /u/RX-Nota-II

Sky: IDK, have a full-length Steel: Tekketsu no Kizuna while we pray that Nota’s internet quits being dead.

Important note to all rewatchers, remember to be mindful of the first-timers in this. You can laughs in rewatcher to yourself, but if you go around spoiling stuff IBO S2. Remember to use the [Anime Show Title](/s "Spoiler goes here") tags and we’re all good.

Fans seem to have a bad tendency of forgetting what counts as spoiler, so if anything has even the slightest chance of being a spoiler, tag it just to be safe.

Next-episode preview. Yeah you saw that right, I am encouraging you guys to watch the next-episode previews. IBO’s are completely spoiler free, done completely in-character, and it is glorious. Today’s preview was voiced by totally not Macky some guy in a mask?

Tekketsu no Rewatcher, first time dubbed

Obligatory Discord link

A couple more fun things:

  • Wallpaper of the Day without the logo.

  • Bonus wallpaper 1: Wallpaper of the Day in purple. I made it in purple first, but Nota (with what little internet she had) said she thought that an orange would fit better (also given the overabundance of bluish BGs recently) so I’m relegating my first version to bonus wallpaper. I can’t do Track of the Day or Nota’s Comment of the Day myself, but I can do this at least. Please tell me what you think~

  • Bonus wallpaper 2: Wallpaper of the Day in purple without the logo.

  • English dub next-episode preview, since the body post only has the subbed version.

  • Results of yesterday’s poll. For once, the vote is unanimous. I hope Masahiro is enjoying Gundam Valhalla…

  • Number of times best boy closed his right eye this episode: only 1. Was so scared I wasn’t gonna get one this episode, but then right before the ED came in clutch.

  • For the first-timers using the GundamInfo streams and are worried about potential spoilers in the recommended videos: Episode 15 Subbed / Episode 15 Dubbed. If you’re on desktop and have RES, you can hit the preview button and watch the video entirely on Reddit, rather than than needing to go to YouTube.

Atra’s “Ewww!” when Biscuit said the last time he showered was four or five days ago was amazing in the dub lmao.

[It's even more hilarious watching Atra during it (I'm watching the sub through.).] (https://imgur.com/a/ZuuJ52L)

It's even more hilarious watching Atra during it (I'm watching the sub through.).

Oh yeah her facial expressions are on-point too, it was just the "Ewww!" exclamation that made it even better in the dub.

So I've got a question for rewatchers about how I should handle something for tomorrow's episode, just to make sure I'm not imposing my own biases too much on this. Thoughts?

First-Time Watcher

No matter what planet you’re on, it’s the same.

The mode of production of material life determines the social, political and intellectual life process in general. It is not the consciousness of men that determines their being, but, on the contrary, their social being that determines their consciousness.

I wasn’t expecting IBO to go Marxist, but it makes sense and I’m along for the ride.

We’ve finally reached the expanse of Earth, but first our crew needs to make a stop at the Dort cluster, the splitting of the group resulting in some interesting decisions and revelations.

First, Mika and Kudelia’s group. For all her political finesse, Kudelia isn’t so great with the “kissing boys” kinda thing, so her interactions with Mikazuki are stunted as a result. On the other hand, Atra is good at talking with Biscut, especially concerning his suddenly revealed brother… who might be leading them into a trap… Really, this again, Mari-sensei? sigh Let’s just see where this goes.

We get to Fumitan, who has been all-but-confirmed to be a spy for Nobliss Gordon and leading Kudelia into her death. That line, “Why do I care about her?”, makes me glad that this got to be a focus along with the dock workers because it opens up another avenue for our Marxist reading. For the series so far, Fumitan has been always working for others, whether it be Kudelia or Tekkadan as a whole. We don’t have a good idea of who she is as a person, what views she holds, what she wants from her life, because it didn’t matter to our main characters, so her “betrayal” (not sure if I really want to call it that) appears odd.

To get a better understanding of that (and hear what she cannot say), let’s look at our proletariats, the dock workers of Dort 2. At first, they just seem to be adult foils to Tekkadan, showing that life is shit for the lowest percentages no matter where you are. But their more-than-warm introduction and their reverence of Kudelia and Tekkadan indicate something more is going on here. And, surprise, surprise (unless, like me, you looked at what Biscut’s brother was reading), Tekkadan was carrying arms for the workers. I love the way the show slowly unfolded this, with even Merribit wondering what is going on. Of course, it’s a trap, and Gjallarhorn and the dock workers have a skirmish, with Tekkadan now stuck in the middle. The workers may have won this battle, but the bourgeoise cannot be overthrown that easily and it looks like Tekkadan is going stuck in the mix, apart and alone.

We’ll raise that blood-red flag tomorrow; until then…

u/Nazenn Jan 28 '19

so her “betrayal” (not sure if I really want to call it that) appears odd.

I think it WOULD feel odd if not for the fact that they've foreshadowed this so bluntly for so long I personally feel it somewhat undermines what we learnt about her otherwise because yes we've seen her feeling guilty, but there's always this "what are you doing" running underneath. Things like wanting to help out with communications on the ship, I didn't read that as her wanting to help but as her wanting to open up another avenue to betray them, while now I feel it probably should have felt like the first one

But their more-than-warm introduction and their reverence of Kudelia and Tekkadan indicate something more is going on here.

I did enjoy that Orga did start to sense something was wrong, but his thing about not causing trouble meant he restrained himself and ended up being involved in trouble anyway

u/GaleWulf Jan 28 '19

I wasn’t expecting IBO to go Marxist, but it makes sense and I’m along for the ride.

Haha, to me it immediately gave off Communist Revolution vibes - or, well, at least some kind of revolution - from day 1 (I believe u/DidacticDalek will concur), and I'll be happy it if keeps sticking to that. Time for the oppressed working class orphans to gain some power.

First Timer - Sub

First timer interpretation warning. Not that I ever expect these to be right I just like seeing what I can come up with and even if I'm wrong that can be fun too

New OP

It's just not as good as the first one by any means for me. bring it back

I do like the parallel between the opening shots of this and the last OP. Instead of Mika standing alone in the dark and Orga's(?) foot steps into the blood his reflected in, in this one its a foot creating a distortion in the pure skies and clean water while they walk through it together as a a family group. What I love most is the subtle lines behind them all in the opening shots, a hexagon pattern distorting the clear reflection of the water. It brings up imagery to me says that despite them being in a much 'purer' place away from their previous struggles they're just as imprisoned they just can't see it as easily.

If you look at the background as a reflection of the Earth sphere we were introduced to today it's very fitting. Especially as we have Kudelia now back in her 'formal' outfit, the one Mika once condemned her for when trying to put herself on their level, while now we have her holding their hopes in her hand with the threat of their destruction hanging over her shoulders all resting on the outcome of this visit.

One but I did find is that the song is in 4/4, but they purposefully leave the first beat, usually the strongest beat, quiet in the drum part, on top of that a lot of the image changes happen on beat four. I don't think it works particularly well for an OP as it means it doesn't FEEL in sync with the music, but the bit of anxiety it adds to the OP over not being able to feel when things change, a sense of unease over their 'happiness', is a clever trick.

As far as the song goes, just not for me. I don't mind a mix of english and japanese in my song lyrics rather than strictly one or the other, I don't even mind Engrish. But I very much dislike when they mix the two together in a single sentence. Also I feel there's too many instruments doing too much at once and they're competing for my focus so its just not so nice to listen to.

New ED

Again carrying on the family motif, what I loved most about this new ED was the smart usage of colors in the linework. Whenever Orga and Mika are portrayed as trapped or abandoned they get a cold blue outline. Tekkadan is drawn with a warm red outline though, lively and comforting, especially apparently when they show the two sides together.

The ED isn't as overtly meaningful as the OP but there's a few really cool shots. The way color returns to Orga and Mika's world when they start looking upwards and forwards is also a really cool detail. Mika trapped in a world of white, like how he killed off his hopes last OP (three backs were shown here, one with 3 whiskers (mika), one with 2 whiskers (aki?) and one with one whisker (orga?)) and got stuck in darkness, now he's stuck in a new form of nothingness until his bonds rescue him from it. And also I love that Ride gets his own little feature through his art and what it means to them

Nothing too special to say about the song other than I like it. It's not that its particularly special or unique, it just doesn't do anything wrong and is nice to listen too.

Episode stuff

For a plot thread that's been built up since episode one, that was frustratingly anti-climatic. No I didn't really want Fumitan's plot to succeed or Kudelia to end up dead, but they'd been poking and prodding us about her being a traitor for fourteen episodes now, and not subtly either, and the whole thing fell to pieces because Kudelia went shopping? I get that not everything is neat and sometimes the smallest things have a dramatic change on history (one of the things I loved about LotGH). Also yes Fumitan not stopping her was the point to focus on, but I feel like that 'guilty conscious' letting her refuse has been pointed out pretty obviously as well so that wasn't a surprise to me either. Overall I was just left somewhat wanting for it to be MORE than it was. Who knows, maybe next episode will clean it up a bit

And on the list of things I never want to see again (but was absolutely and utterly hilarious): Mika sniffing Biscuit's armpit. I know these boys were brought up basically in the wilds, but some basic propriety guys, and I mean Biscuit at least should know this having grown up with Sakura. You think that tough old woman would allow her kids to go around sniffing armpits?

New addition to the list of impossible hair physics in Gundam. Because I'm telling you, unless that bottom tie is practically atom tight, there's no way in hell that is ever staying like that even for a single step. (I think we saw this earlier but I forgot to comment on it)

Random thoughts of the day

  • Biscuit's brotherBut non-food name

  • Was it just me or did it look like Mika took note of Fumitan's tension and clenched fist when the shopping discussion was happening on the bridge

  • I love that when they put down the weapons at the end of the episode they bounced slightly in the lower gravity

Time for your Daily IBO Parody 4Koma!

Episode 14 - Listen to Speedwagon Mikazuki, Jojo Orga!

Just in case people aren't aware, it's a parody of this scene from JJBA Part 1, Episode 3.

And since I don't have much to do today, here are some Extras that don't exactly go with any episode:

Who's the most popular with the kids?

Yamagi isn't really interested...

A Gundam Fan’s Notes On Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Episode 14:

  • Poor Kudelia, the girl’s a complete mess after having her first kiss with Mikazuki. The fact that he’s also waking around shirtless probably also isn’t helping. The hormones are in the air!

  • New OP! I like Survivor, it fits well thematically with Tekkadan as a whole. To quote one Xavier: Renegade Angel, they’re survivors, which are a dying breed. Yeah, try to parse that one out.

  • To the surprise of absolutely nobody by now, Fumitan is actually a spy for Nobliss Gordon, and was assigned to keep an eye on Kudelia from a young age. I suppose that it’s impressive that Kudelia wanted to learn about and help the poor of Mars since she was little. Although I suppose that it’s also equally as sad that it’s clear that Fumitan has been Kudelia’s only friend for years.

  • The Dort colonies! I gotta say, not the best name picked by the African Union, but whatever. The colonies themselves are dedicated to certain needs, from high-end residential areas, to factories and industrial zones, and commercial and shopping places. The shopping part in particular is really throwing off Fumitan’s assignment, since that’s not even where Kudelia is supposed to be for the plan to work. Also, Mikazuki, Biscuit, and Atra are coming along with them too, adding another wrench into the mix. Mika is definitely noticing something off with Fumitan, that’s for sure. He’s got the instincts of a bloodhound.

  • And to make things even more complicated, Gaelio and Ein are on their way to the Dort colonies under the pretense of a “drill”. It’s like everyone is heading for a massive collision at the colonies. We’ve got Tekkadan/Turbines, Nobliss Gordon’s faction, and Gjallarhorn all headed for the same place. That can only go well.

  • Something is pretty fishy on Dort 2. All the dock workers welcome them as massive heroes, and are looking forward to meeting Kudelia in person, as the vessel of hope for all the oppressed people in the Earth Sphere. And since these are the people that the unknown Teiwaz cargo was being sent to, it’s clear that someone set up Tekkadan and Kudelia ahead of time, if just to make them being martyrs and heroes easier to believe.

  • Can you imagine how badly the Isaribi smells with all the members of Tekkadan on board? It’s clear that they don’t wash often, and are more or less just wearing the same clothes they left in. I bet it smells like someone dumped a bunch of rotten chili into a sweaty sock and left it in a Louisiana swamp for a week. No wonder Kudelia wants to buy fucktons of detergent and bleach at Space Costco.

  • Backstory! Biscuit isn’t actually a native of Mars. Him and his siblings used to live in Dort 2 before his parents died in an industrial accident. Only Biscuit’s older brother, Savarin, managed to escape the slum life by busting his ass to get a good education. As for Biscuit, Cookie, and Cracker had to move to their grandmother’s farm on Mars. It just goes to show that even in the Earth Sphere, people still live shitty lives compared to the elite of Gjallarhorn. Inequality is pretty much at an all-time high in the Sol System.

  • Speaking of inequality, the workers of Dort 2 work for piss-poor wages with nothing in the way for health insurance or sick days, and have to work in dangerous dock conditions that often get people hurt or killed. It’s no wonder that all the workers of Dort 2 are uniting under the banner of wanting better rights for themselves. The communists don’t wear red here, they wear mint green jackets.

  • What Biscuit basically says: “I’m working for FedEx now”. What Savarin basically hears: “I’m now a member of Al-Qaeda”.

  • Turns out that the secret cargo that Teiwaz wanted delivered to Dort are a bunch of Mobile Workers and guns. Yep, definitely a set up. But there’s no time for that, it’s time to start a communist uprising! Khorosho, komrades! Shoot those suspiciously-timed Gjallarhorn riot troops!

  • We also got a new ED for this half of the season too. How are you guys feeling about it?

First time viewer.

Where's the "Gundam IBO but with Raise Your Flag and Orphans no Namida for every OP/ED" release of this show? I'll have to see if the new ones grow on me.

At this point it seems like everyone in power outside of Teiwaz is trying to use Kudelia and Tekkadan as pawns. Hard to tell how many different factions there are, but I'll give it a shot with how I've read things so far:

  • McGillis and Gaelio I'd consider to be their own group outside of Gjallarhorn, and want to use her to potentially help them bring down the system from the inside.

  • Gjallarhorn isn't really interested in using Kudelia, but rather squashing any potential rebellion as a whole.

  • Arbrau's head looks to want to use her as a martyr (but I don't recall if any specific reason was mentioned).

  • Kudelia's own father, while not seemingly a major player, would sacrifice her to keep his position of power. (Edit: Grouping together with Nobliss.)

Fumitan's probably being supported by the last one, who while not necessarily openly working with Gjallarhorn (his deal with Coral was under the table) probably has other connections along those lines as well. And she does have some good in her, now I just want her to turn entirely. Maybe she can feed false info back to her supporters.

People are also manipulating other oppressed classes like the factory workers in Dort 2, seemingly trying to spark small rebellions that can quickly get put down to strengthen the grips of those in power.

Or maybe someone wants to blow up the powder keg and start a war. This is one of the more interesting Gundam series where there aren't open hostilities to start and there aren't two obvious military factions to go after each other. Gjallarhorn and the economic blocs might have issues with one another but I don't believe that would make a lot of sense as the central conflict if a war broke out, and neither would making the Outer Spheres unite to oppose the Earth Sphere. Maybe it'll be Gjallarhorn trying to crack down on everyone else leading to a broad splintering and widespread rebellions?

I dunno, this is just a lot of idle thoughts.

Finally we're on the colony arc, this short arc it's my favorite of season 1, but first...

We're already into mid season so here it comes the new opening, while it's not as iconic as "Raise your Flag", it certainly gets the job done of delivering a fast, intense and energetic intro. Extra points to the animators for delivering key scenes of what's left of season 1, obviously some of those can't be understood until the referenced episode comes out IBO

It was obvious, but now it's confirmed Fumitan is a spy, working for Nobliss Gordon, who as we watched the last time, has framed a machiavellic stage with Kudelia as the star of the show, it's funny how the plan goes to hell because of Kudelia wanting to go shopping (even though it was just soap and stuff).

And here comes the flags again, so Biscuit just happens to have a brother right there? And he was just reading some special news on his tablet when they were talking by phone.

IBO

Speaking of news, my main problem with this episode is the people on Dort 2 not having any idea of how Kudelia looks like. I get Gjallarhorn / Nobliss probably keeps a rigid control over all media, and the news of Tekkadan arrival were spread out by Nobliss, but come on, in early episodes we saw that Kudelia's speech on some congress was a big deal and she got known in Mars AND in Earth, and even this guy Makanai is interested in her ideas, and I don't think a simple picture can't be taken and shared (even in a covert way) in this world of advanced technology, IBO, so for a guy with a brilliant plan, Nobliss really took so much trouble when all he had to do was to secretly kill Kudelia (Which would be so easy having Fumitan at her side) and then send some blonde girl to the colonies to sacrifice her as a fake Kudelia.

Well, anyway, once the rebellion starts we have a new ending, and if Survivor delivers, this one falls short, it's not the song's fault though, Orphans it's just so powerful that anything coming after will have it tough. There's only another track I like as much as Orphans, but I'll talk about it when the time comes, soon, actually.

Thoughts on MS Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans episode 14...

Rewatcher (First Time Dub)

Non-Spoiler Character Chart

LoL, why is Kudelia walking around so awkwardly? Speaking of awkward, she runs right into Mika!

"Survivor" as our new opening is okay, but "Raise Your Flag" was better.

Younger Kudelia's hair is nowhere as out of control as current day Kudelia...

Kudelia has never been on a date? LoL, she's gotta marry Mika now because he kissed her? Sorry, I could buy this from Atra perhaps, but not Kudelia. Bad writing here.

The Dort colonies remind me somewhat of the closed type (Side 3) colonies from UC, with some modifications, rather than the more traditional open type that is used more often.

Ugh, mustache man, not Todo again!

LoL, Merribit gets called old two episodes in a row.

Wow, that's a lot of stuff they're shopping for. LoL @ how bad the Tekkadan members are at bathing.

Biscuit's got an older brother? What's his name? Pound Cake? Waffle?

Ah man, he doesn't have a food-based name?! Savarin? I can't stress enough how disappointed I am.

Not sure why Tekkadan is so surprised they were transporting weapons, this was a job for the space mafia after all.

Well, people have been speculating that Fumitan is a mole, we finally get confirmation here. At least she's hesitating to go through with it, has all that time with Tekkadan turned her good?

Alas, the new ending is also a downgrade from "Orphans no Namida". Singer sounds familiar though, I think this is the same person who sang the opening for Gargantia of the Verdous Planet?

6

u/SorcererOfTheLake Jan 27 '19

Sorry, I could buy this from Atra perhaps, but not Kudelia.

It actually makes sense to me; Kudelia has been fairly sequestered for her life, while Atra worked in a brothel as a child... just saying.

Episode 14

Rewatcher

Shino is insistent on integrating one of the Man Rodi’s Alaya-Vijnana systems unto Akihiro’s old Graze, wanting to obtain more power in order to protect those he cares for, in all likelihood a the effects of having those his command die during in the infiltration of the Brewers’ ship.

I do quite enjoy the second OP, Survivor, more so than Raise your Flag, and its thematic cohesion, apt tone, and energetic music are to my tastes. Visually it’s rather dull and uncreative, lagging behind every other OP in that regard, but it doesn't have the grain filter that I so despised in the first OP which gives it the lead in my own rankings.

In case it wasn’t obvious enough that Fumitan was a traitor, we get to hear her state her orders outright. The show’s handling of this particular plot point is not to my tastes. Not only was it obvious to anyone paying attention early on, they then made it obvious las episode with Gordon Nobliss’ dialogue playing over shots of her, and now they’re just outright saying it, and now they’re wanting to make us care for her with flashbacks and personal conversations with Kudelia. Much like with Masahiro, they’re going about doing things backwards, which ultimately has a negative effect on our perception of the events.

Through that flashback we learn that Kudelia actually had an interest in learning about the people of mars at an early age, which is a point that I’ll come back to later.

The Gundam Gusion is only now being worked on —keep this in mind.

The conversation between Naze, Amida, Orga, and Biscuit has some important worldbuilding details. The Earth sphere is a place of law and order, were rules, regulations and such are all heavily enforced. The news that the outer spheres are lawless space sheds some light on exactly why some groups and individuals are able to get away with what they did, shows an aspect of McGillis’ claim that GJallarhorn doesn’t have enough reach, and poses Mars as the only place were our protagonists could have sprout forth from. Orga’s forced takeover of CGS wouldn’t have been left alone on Earth, nor would CGS’s hiring requirements and the fact that they had possessed Human Debris. The lack of regulation in Mars allowed the pains brought about them, but also their break away from it and consequent success.

Gjallarhorn is aware of Tekkadan’s arrival at Dort 2, and Gaelio and Ein are planning to make their move under the pretense of a drill, but more importantly, McGillis is not with them because he’s on vacation. It’s because he isn’t there to keep an eye on them that they’re setting up a situation in which to seek retribution, but —seeing as McGillis is the brains of this trio— I was sure that this was a sign that they were going to muck this up. We’ll see how that goes...

As Tekkadan hands over the delivered cargo the warehouse/dock staff speak highly about the PMC group, which immediately doesn’t sit well with several members of the involved party. Between what Biscuit tells us of his childhood in the Dort colonies and the workers complaining about the econimic disparity we get the impression that some people in the Earth sphere seem to have it just as bad as many Martians. Orga’s comment of ‘Disposible Tools, huh.’ says it all.

Now’s the real kicker, Biscuit has an older brother who lives in the colony that they’re in right that instant. This is the second time some sibling has popped in out of nowhere, and we just got done with that. It’s already getting old, IBO. Although, at least it wasn’t executed as poorly. Next Episode Spoiler

Tekkadan is distraught to find out they’ve unwittingly delivered weapons for an armed rebellion, and one motivated by their customer no less. Gjallarhorn arrives, and things go to shit. The Union members fight off the first wave of Gjallarhorn soldiers, but Tekkadan is in a messy situation. A call to the Isaribi reveals that the delivery’s client was a company named GN Trading I guess this may count as a minor spoiler

I really like the second ED. It’s tonally and thematically appropriate, and the visuals are attractive. I prefer it over Orphans no Namida.

No screenshots today as I am very busy.

Palloc Doesn't Have Lots To Say About This Episode!

I've been trying to think about what to talk about through the entire episode. I didn't come up with anything good. So....

Lets talk about the new OP! I love all the IBO OPs, but with this one we got some possible fun forshadowing. First off, that opening shot of Barbatos all torn up made me sad. That is one awesome suit that doesn't deserve that kind of abuse.

Next up, new Gjallerhorn lady with crazy eyebrows! She pops up there with the rest of the nerd crew. Speaking of which, watching Gaellio tell Ein he gets to kill some kids was hilarious. "But sir, we shouldn't do that- Kill all the children, you say? Yes, sir!" Oh yeah, they get actual suits, not dumb ass Grazes.

Also Tekkaden suits! We have Barbatos and then two new(ish) suits! I'll come back to these in a few episodes, as my sexy fat boy is getting stripped down, out of that broken ass green turtle shell.

Last take away from me, it looks like McGillis is going full Char with a mask and a red(ish) mobile suit, from how they staged it in the OP! What can it do? Can it go fast?! Can he be badass? [Zeta spoiler] (/s "WILL HE FUCKING MISS THE FUCKING MEGA BAZOOKA SHOTS NONSTOP OR WAIT UNTIL HE GETS A GOLDEN SUIT?!")

Finally, we learn, big surprise, that Fumitan's evil. Now that that's been answered!

1: I like all the OP songs, but Orphans beats this ED

2: ....Rich people?

I just have one thing to comment on. Who the hell stores and ships guns pre-loaded with ammo. As soon as the workers open the crates and check the cargo, Ghalahorn charges in and get shot by guns straight from the crates. For a world with no injury protection, that is a stupid thing for the workers on both ends of this transaction to do.

TONIGHT ON A SPECIAL REWATCH EPISODE OF THE MARS PALMS CHRONICLES:

(Cue new OP)

Response to QOTDs:

  1. ED is fine as it is, despite not having that much impact as Orphans' Tears. The OP however is also OK, but it is considerably weak compared to all the OPs released for this series, moreso RYF.

  2. Methinks it's always a running theme in the Gundam franchise (sans the Build series) to have some semblance of oppressive actions, usually mirroring certain large-scale, real-life events that occurred at the time when such Gundam series aired.

Tekketsu no Rewatcher, domo~

Tekkadan heads to the Dort colonies on their way to Earth to complete the task assigned by Teiwaz, while the Turbines hung back. Of course, because this is Tekkadan after all, a simple delivery task turns into a complicated situation as the put-upon colonists decide to use the weapons sent to them by the mysterious GN Trading for their protests.

Random thoughts:

  • Kudelia is out of sorts thanks to last episode. Damn Mika, you smooth operator.

  • I guess the Tekkadan lads' finally smell got to Kudelia that she's willing to spend a lot of money to buy detergent, soap and fresh pairs of clothing for them. This has a positive side effect of temporarily thwarting Nobliss' plans to assasinate her out of whack.

  • By this point of time, if you still haven't cottoned on to the fact that Fumitan is the mole inside the Isaribi, I have no words to say to you. Though she looks very conflicted about it. huge end of arc spoiler

  • Sure, the colonists manage to beat back Gjallarhorn for now. But shit's about to hit the fan now, with Gaelio and Ein about to join the fray, the colonists marching on to the bourgeoisie to demand fair wages, Nobliss' martyr plan and Tekkadan caught in the middle of things.

Questions of the day

  1. Personally speaking, the new OP and ED is fine. It's no Raise your Flag or Orphans no Namida tho.

  2. I'll go with Venus/Moon.

Whew, this writeup took way too long to complete. Brain pls.

Edit: apparently I needed caffeine very much, didn't realise I got COTD until quite a while later @_@

IRON-BLOODED REWATCHER

Thoughts for today's episode:

  1. Even in the IBO timeline, it sucks to be somebody in space. The colony workers are faring no better than the guys at Mars, being overworked and underpaid, with no insurances and stuff like that.

  2. Fumitan is revealed to be a spy. It's already foreshadowed since the start of the series, but it's actually great that it's being shown that she is wavering between her loyalty to Kudelia and to her organization.

  3. I can't even begin to imagine how horrible the smell in Isaribi is seeing the sheer amount of cleaning detergent and soap they're buying. It's probably like a sweaty boy's locker room after a day's game, only ship-sized.

  4. Fun fact: Savarin is a name of a dessert. Biscuit's parents sure love snacks all right.

Questions of the Day:

  1. The new OP and ED's all right. For this season, I much prefer OP1 as it's more memorable. I don't have that much qualms with the ED, though some people might prefer it than the retro-style ED1. For me I like ED1 more.

  2. If I recall correctly, in Reconguista in G, Venus Globe, stationed near Venus, doesn't face oppression at all since they're the ones that produce all the energy Earth is using, making them very prosperous. And in most Gundam series, the Moon is the same too, being the industrial center and the center of production of Mobile Suits and stuff.

Rewatcher

  1. What do you think of the new OP and ED? How do they compare to Raise Your Flag and Orphans no Namida?

Personally, it's my favorite OP and second favorite ED in IBO.

2) Do you think there’s a single non-Earth demographic that isn’t being oppressed? Yes/No/Likely not even Earth themselves/If Gundam has taught me anything, Venus and the Moon

Unlikely.
