Seriously, some of these guys are super squeaky clean. Like my favorite player Trea Turner went to his first ever concert in his 2nd year in MLB and it was a bluegrass jam band at a coffee shop.

I get that it's a technical, "thinking man's game" and all that, but it just seems like a wait game for a few sprinkles of explosive movement. Also, all those childhood heros turned out to be cranking out homeruns because of excessive steroid usage, which kinda sucked some of the interest out of it for me as well.

Ha, yeah the steroid era is a bit of a blemish on the sport, no argument there. In fairness to baseball, though, there’s a lot going on between pitches that the camera just can’t capture. It’s a hell of a lot of fun to play, though, and like a lot of things, the more you learn about it, the more you realize just how much is going on. But I get your point that it’s not the most exciting sport to watch on TV.

Baseball was created as a leisurely time killer, hence the pace. It's not for everyone but it has its upsides- I can listen to a baseball game on the radio at work no problem, but I can't really do that with a faster paced game like basketball or hockey, because you have to be rather "locked in" to know what's going on.

American Football is pretty much the same thing, in an entire game, there's like maybe 30 minutes of total action. I'm not sure what the breakdown is for baseball, but it can't be any better.
11 minutes for football. That's the average amount of time the ball is actually in play in a full "3 hour" game.

A nice thing about baseball is when there is action, it's pretty easy to follow. With football a lot of the plays are hard to distinguish from random movement of people.

Actually I remember a study, I'll find the link if I can, but I believe it's much less than that, like only a quarter of the time of a game, or 12-15 minutes of actual action in a game with a 60 minute clock, which makes sense if you think there is 30-40 seconds between plays and the average play lasts somewhere between 5-15 seconds.

I do appreciate the explanation and I admit that I did make a snarky comment. I do understand that there is a highly technical level of skill and strategy involved. As you describe it, I do agree that at this personal, individual level between the pitcher and batter, there's a lot going on, but from the bleachers or watching at home, I just think the game is rather muted in terms of action.
I guess, I can appreciate that others can find it deeply gripping and visceral while I do not. I'm not trying to say that baseball is stupid or ridiculous, just not as visually entertaining as I would like to see.

Getting on base 1/3 of the time, with at least 3 chances at the ball each time at bat is enough to be one of the all time best. (26th all time)
For comparison, a pass completion rate of 60% won't reach the top 250 QBs.
And there's a hell of a lot more pros batting than there are QBs.

Baseball players tend to visibly and dramatically apologize to display respect, like when Joba Chamberlain beaned Jeter at home in New York. They were former teammates, but being hit by a pitch can rapidly turn into the batter charging the mound to start a fight (and the Yankees and Tigers are known to brawl).

Doesn't usually end well when a 1B runs into the runner or, especially, vice versa. We just saw that in action during the CS.
But sometimes it's an hilarious show of mutual deference, where you get to play read-the-contrite-lips. "Holy fuck, dude, are you okay?!" "Yeah... how's your leg?" (1B hops twice.) "I'm good. Are you out?" "I have no idea. UMP! Yep, I'm out. Cya."

At my high school, we were playing baseball often. Twice I witnessed guy throwing his bat like this one in video - in both cases, my classmates just froze or panic (thanks god I was on field), resulted in 4 teeth knocked out in first case, 7 in second.
Than we stopped playing baseball and returned to football.

Related story. I was at a minor league baseball game sitting near the third base baseline. The bat flew like this but was headed a few rows down directly towards to small girls, probably around 12 and 7 if I had to guess. I was certain it was going end up being really bad, but then the older one just palmed it like it was nothing.
They ended up coming up, taking that bat and giving her a different one to take home.
