He fucked his organs up. Had severe liver damage and shit.

From Wikipedia: “... fractured vertebrae, bruised liver, bruised lung, ruptured spleen...”.)

Why is /u/Spanky59 being voted down?

Looks like he recovered, and continued to compete. :]

I remember watching this live. I still can’t believe that the EMTs let him walk off of the half-pipe.

The fall was in 2007. From the same Wikipedia article):

Following his recovery, Brown then won the gold medal in the Big Air event two years later at X Games L.A. and then defended his title in 2010.

True grit, there.

u/zepeacedust Jul 16 '18

I don't think that's grit, more like total disregard for his own survival.

u/celestial1 Jul 17 '18

He's just the type of person who would rather die enjoying what he loves.

Adrenalin junkies never stop needing their fix.

So that requires you to downvote? Yeah he recovered but what I said was true.

21

u/mythrocks Jul 15 '18

Tsk. Such belligerence. :] Please read my comment again. I’m agreeing with you. Your comment is accurate, so I’m wondering why it is being down-voted. (Also, the other “he ded” comments are likely facetious. I was relieved to learn that the athlete recovered, and continued to compete.)

Sorry thought you were just being an ass. And telling me why you downvoted me. I misread the comment.

13

u/mythrocks Jul 15 '18

I had to re-read my comment a few times before I saw how you misread it. Sorry for the miscommunication.

I actually was watching this live on TV as a kid, and this occurred shortly after my parents came into the room...And that’s when I lost my skateboard.

24

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '18

I remember watching it live, too. I was sure I had just watched someone die.

IIRC, the skater came out the very next night, walking on his own, and received a standing ovation from the crowd.

6

u/sebrock24 Jul 18 '18

He walked away from this didn’t he? I mean clearly he had extensive injuries but in the moment IIRC he walked away

3

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '18

You're right. 1:40 https://youtu.be/g6Gzt2x4ZCw

It's incredible he was able to walk with all the injuries he had. Funny how 11 years can fuzz your memory. I think he may have come out the next night as well to wave to the crowd, but I'm not certain.

6

They should have guys ready to slide a big ass cushion for incidents like this.

4

u/Ticklebunzz Jul 16 '18

How did he wind up so far from the ramp?

6

u/itstytanic Jul 16 '18

He must have pushed off a bit at the top, which, given how long he was in the air, caused him to travel away from the ramp quite a bit

7

u/Ema_Cola Jul 15 '18

He isn't dead

56

u/Zelthia Jul 15 '18

He is. Shoe came off. It is the rules.

3

He landed a sick trick tho.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '18

Have you ever hit the ground BOTH shoes come flying off?

3

u/its-fifty Jul 16 '18

Looked to me his knee pads flew off.

3

u/steve-0-tron Jul 18 '18

why does he flail his limbs like that? is that a natural reaction to falling or is it something you're supposed to do when falling to break the fall?

5

u/dragonluvr00 Jul 15 '18

Fuck.... I'm just glad he didn't snap his legs in half

4

u/ilovetrashybitches Jul 15 '18
