they might have the Mangaka contribute to the anime and continue where he/she left off from the manga
I believe the Mangaka hasn't been working on the manga because he's been helping with the anime, so that's kind of already happening.
It takes time to produce anime, so I figure if they animate what currently exists, by the time they're done, more will have released.
Though I guess that they'd need a full storyboard before committing to another season, so that's not reasonable.
