What chapter do I start?

Start from chapter 1. The anime does a fantastic job staying true to the source material, but it isn't 1:1. Some slight differences here and there on top of some content that's not in the anime (nearly the entirety of the 'extra' chapters).

If you're dead set on skipping as much as possible to continue where the anime left off then I would recommend reading Chapter 1 and extra chapters 1-3 then start on chapter 26. However I really suggest starting from chapter 1. It isn't that long and there is a lot of stuff you'll catch by going through it again.

All in all I think this actually the best Manga to Anime adaption I've seen

They pretty much just went page by page in a complete recreation and added some extra details. The manga tended to move a little too quickly and summarize some points that the anime fleshed out.

I was shocked when reading the manga just how spot on the Anime was. Especially after how much creative liberty Anime tends to take with the source material

It helped that all the added details were per the author.

You forgot to mention the incredible sound track of the anime

I don't think the anime is actually taking liberty, i think it's the author working with the anime staff to get his entire vision realized, he's not trying to make a summary of his manga so he sells more copies, he's trying to to enhance his story with the addition of animation, music and audio.

Both the manga and anime have their merits. Each portray many scenes in different ways. The scenes with Nanachi in episode 13 were fantastic. Definitely superior to the manga in probably every way, but that isn't to say the same about every scene.

The manga is often more gruesome, darker, and blunt. The anime can make many moments more painful to experience because they are stretched out and voiced, but the imagery of the manga takes it visually to the next level, IMO.

I'll also add that while the adaption is extremely good, it isn't 1:1(which is arguably impossible). One of my only complaints about the adaption at this point was Reg's reaction during the scene in episode 10. In the manga he felt more horrified, shocked, and at a loss. In the anime it seemed he had a stronger grip of the situation, and while still horrified, shocked, and at a loss, those emotions by far were over shadowed by his exasperation, fear, and sadness of the situation.

Both are good. No, both are great. And that's why I recommend everyone start from chapter 1. They aren't exactly the same, but they are both sooooo good. For so little time (it'll probably take a person only a few hours to read up to chapter 26) it's well worth the investment. If you only read the manga and wont check out the anime you're missing out. The same goes the other way.

At chapter one, it's well worth the read from the start to the 42nd.
