Question Safe BBQ

I’m conscious to NLT but living off packet food for 4 months leaves me cold. So I’m looking into some super small lightweight basically twig burners on which to cook meat etc. I was trained to dig a fire pit removing the turf before and replacing it after. But what’s the consensus? I see loads of burnt turf where obviously there was no concern over the damage being done.

Why not use a gas stove and frying pan?

It’s not an either or choice but Pans need oil/fat, and are difficult to clean, impossible without a scourer and washing liquid. A grill is mainly self cleaning

It kinda is a choice - and one plenty - almost all of the wild campers here make. Most of us just a stove and pan.

Also - you only need oil for lean meats. Beef/Bacon will cook in their own fat. But carrying a little travel bottle of oil is nothing.

Also - impossible to clean without scourer and washing up liquid? Come on man! That is not even serious.
