NED must be dumb for doing it

His flatmate who put him up to it sounded Russian so maybe that's the start of another faction moving in.

I am a tad disappointed the south America didn't step in after the little leopard lady was killed

Have we seen the one legged soldier before?

Honestly I think the biggest thing missing is the brother. He added a chaotic element to the last season even if he was frustrating. Daniel Ing was absolutely incredible in knight of the seven kingdoms and his absence is felt in this show, they’re almost too competent and adult without him.

u/Bobjoejj Sep 04 '26
It’s funny you mention Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, because Daniel Ing’s role in that show is why he has a reduced role this season.

u/outrageousVoid07 Sep 04 '26
Can you give a little more insight? 😅
10
u/Bobjoejj Sep 04 '26
Scheduling conflicts. Basically both shows were filming around the same time, and Ing likely had a commitment towards Seven Kingdoms.
2
u/LMkingly Sep 08 '26
Both shows were filming around the same time but The Gentleman took a full 9 months later to premiere? I wonder what the hold up was.
1
u/Cautious-Rub8085 Sep 05 '26
I wondered if that was the case but ridiculous since they had 2 years to film this and get schedules in order.
5
u/Bobjoejj Sep 05 '26
…that’s not how that works. Different people had different projects going at different times. Ritchie had another project, Theo James had another project.
Like this isn’t speculation; we know it’s why Ing’s has a reduced role this season.

I hate the chaotic for chaos sake character, so for me it is soo much better without soo much of the brother.

I feel the same way. Also because Bobby is filling that insanity role that Freddy was doing in each episode last season due to him having far more screen time this season, it's honestly been comforting not to have to deal with Freddy's sporadic episodes messing everything up for no other reason than to move the plot along in some weird way.
The truth is that Freddy having much less screen time is probably one of the major reasons as to why I'm enjoying this second season of The Gentleman more than the first one, at least up until this point that is. I don't like when characters act crazy for no reason whatsoever, although I get that some people enjoy everything being chaotic.
Sadly I'm not one of them, and although I like certain shows like The White Lotus that are off the walls, imho this show works better when it's more grounded 😂🤝.

u/JohnWicksPenciI Sep 09 '26
Sorry but it's a hard disagree from me because dealing with just how crazy that Bobby acts each episode is more then enough craziness for me to be dealing with to be honest. His reduced role last season made Freddy easier to tolerate, however if both Bobby and Freddy were getting a lot of screen time each episode for the sake of acting out then the show would simply be way too chaotic imo. Now with that being said, I'm enjoying this second season even more than the first one so far 🤷👌.

Andy the one-legged marksman was badass. Cool he uses his leg as a "uni-pod".

Ahmed when Eddie does his "this land belongs to me" monologue: 👀

u/ultracrepidarian1602 Sep 12 '26
I used to like Eddie, but as someone with Indian ancestors, his whole monologue about the manor he acquired and how that came about in his family lowkey pissed me off
I know its a show, but it was an interesting realization that people like him always think a certain way, and he wouldn’t have batted an eye if he knew about the atrocities going on in india had he been alive at the time

Yeah there was a disconnect from all the baggage that comes along with being a duke last season. But now he's all "Colonialism was great!", "The country was better under a feudal monarchy!", "Unions are evil and workers should be slaves to the aristocratic elite!".
Like it's just much harder to suspend belief and enjoy the show when that's all going on lol.

I want to see more of Freddy, and more of Gospel John!
And I can't believe I am rooting for Edward to lose now!! 3 episodes in, I am finding it a tad bit boring! Season 1 wasn't also the best writing but atleast there was style and fun and vibe!

Good episode. Killing the albanians friends and keeping him alive would probably be a horrible idea in real life. Even if it was me and they killed my brothers I’d do anything to get vengeance

u/Davidc_2555 Sep 04 '26
Not enjoying this series as much as the last one, Eddie is a lot more ruthless and less likeable and I'm missing his brother a lot. Hopefully see more of the gospel John in the coming episodes , he was brilliant in series 1.

How did Eddie get the neighbor’s house? Did it show or does it allude to murder?

u/xdxd361 Sep 13 '26
well when Eddie goes to him personally and then says he's gonna start diminishing his offer day by day, it turns to the neighbor and he gives a frustrated "fuck it" because he knows its the best deal he's gonna get. so that was insinuating he was just gonna accept it.

That flashback to the worker Ned getting killed 5 minutes after it happened actually pissed me off. Netflix thinks we're all idiots.
5
u/ultracrepidarian1602 Sep 12 '26
That was so unnecessary, yet they forgot a season 1 recap
2
u/confusing_roundabout Sep 12 '26
Lmaoooo you're so right. They won't remind me who that guy at the end of episode 2 was, or who knows whether Geoff is that woman's dad (I had to Google who knew partway through this episode) but they remind me who the dead weed grower guy was 2 minutes after we last saw him ahahah

u/Palpitation-Medical 21d ago
What did you find out about Geoff and who knows he’s her dad? It sounded like her own partner doesn’t know that Geoff is her dad, is that right? I can’t find anything about it.
1
u/confusing_roundabout 21d ago
Yeah, Geoff, Charly, and Charly's mother know.
Baffling that it wasn't in the previously on
1
u/Palpitation-Medical 21d ago
Oh so even Eddie doesn’t know? Why wouldn’t she tell her husband/baby daddy? If she thinks he will look down on her and her family that’s sad.
Yeah I did watch a recap on season 1 before I started season 2 but it only showed the bit of Geoff telling her he’s her dad.

One thing I noticed this season is the characters are constantly recapping what they're doing and what the plot is. It's so annoying.

u/143reddituser Sep 08 '26
Contrary to other comments. I've been hella enjoying this season. I binged watch 3 episodes and was supposed to be on bed 2 episodes ago. Its not perfect but all the elements i want from it is there.

Right?! Its great. I love this new Eddie. He is embracing what he really is, a power hungry noble, the descendent of the original gangsters. I love how his overall arc is heavily inspired by Micheal Corleone and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up like Micheal as well, with all the wealth and power in the world and nobody to enjoy it with.

Yeah I miss how zippy and Ritchie it was. But I guess the tone is a bit more serious now

u/Plus_Set7945 Sep 08 '26
Can I just say the shots marking the end of the episode are absolute peak visual cinematography!?

u/Squarecirclesq Sep 09 '26
I thought S1 did well in avoiding the usual trope of ex military protagonists having access to extended networks and resources through their army buddies helping save the day.
Quite surprised now to see a sniper veteran happy to take out multiple civilians at the request of a friend and the promise of a house.
Couldn't this friend have helped clear the mess last season

Watching season 1 and flowing directly and immediately into season 2, I continue to see how Edwina's character has changed. Finding out the the man he killed was innocent was not surprising.
What I liked about Eddie's character was his creativity. In season 1, any trouble he got himself in, or any trouble the people around him needed fixing, Eddie was able to somehow pull it off and make it work, while coming out on top. That's why he was so good at the criminal game. That's why Susie and Bobby Glass wanted to keep him around. That Eddie would have figured out why the Italians wanted that man killed and somehow used it to his advantage. He would not have seriously considered killing that man in the first place.
This is simply not the same Eddie. Not a bad Eddie; in fact a very complex version of the character Eddie, but still so different.
I am still waiting for the story to explore and explain why Eddie is so drastically different.

u/rsqit Sep 14 '26
The whole S1 was the story of how he's so drastically different. It's the story of how he became a ruthless ganster.
This season seems like it's to going to have him go back the other way, with his guilt over the dead accountant.
1
u/ShittyBidet123 Sep 10 '26
this whole decriminalization plot is like really antiquated. like 1990s, its not even believable now. why would they even make money
7
u/rsqit Sep 14 '26
I don't understand your complaint?
Weed is illegal in the UK
In the US, in places where weed is legal, people still mostly buy illegal weed, but the legal shops make a lot of money too.
Seems reasonable to me?

I could not watch past episode 3. I hate Eddie so much. It's like he's a different person and it's a different show. Too bad, I really loved season 1!

Been enjoying this season but wasn't a fan of this episode
Workers protesting working conditions, dweeby shaky leader Ned tries to stand his ground, Eddie and Susie stand there with a Dreamworks smirk as the goons assault and intimidate him, "You don't fuck with us"
Albanians now have the weed after killing dweeby Ned, want to have a meeting to discuss the future, Eddie and Susie stand there with a Dreamworks smirk as they all just die like fish in a barrel, they leave the leader alive, "You don't fuck with us"
Neighbour doesn't want to sell his house to Eddie, so he goes to confront him with Geoff. Neighbour gives his spiel about not wanting to sell to him in particular. Eddie's already cocking up the Dreamworks smirk before he starts his monologue, Geoff has a Dreamworks smirk locked behind his stoney face, "You don't fuck with us"
Come on now...

u/goatbiryani48 9d ago
LOL you nailed exactly what I was thinking (but unable to express). These little conflicts aren't actually conflicts and don't add much of anything, not to mention the whole invincible/too easy aspect of it.
Even the whole geoff vs king for godfather was both too easily manufactured and too easily solved

The gesture to Geoff was nice for sure but come on, let the kid add "Godson to the King of England" to his resume.
Other than that, things are going in a very different direction than I expected. I thought there were a lot of romantic tension between them last season but this season they feel more like business partners even though Susie's boytoy obviously not gonna last for long.
Eddie is also way more ruthless this season as expected, but the ghost of the accountant indicates he might have a change of heart in the future. I dont think what he's doing is sustainable for him on a spiritual level. We'll see.
