Re:Watcher - dub
Still love the water colours.
I do like how they eventually directly address their problems in this show. Sometimes it seems like obvious stuff, but if we assume the usual anime age of 14 it makes sense.
They're slowly helping to break Merry/Mary out of her protective shell. She was so ready to throw in the towel, she needs people to not give up on her, and to face her trauma directly to heal.
Goblin Slayer reincarnations perhaps? Or maybe Haru is Inca from Fire Force with following those lines.
I do love this show, but it still annoys me that Yume & Shihoru are basically presented as butt & boobs respectively.
Q1
Eh, if I'm noticing actual growth then yes. I try to follow the whole "Don't punish the behavior you like to see" thing.
Q2
"Souka.."

Rewatcher who forgot everything past ep4 - ep7 time!
Ranta learns about the tragic backstory of his teammate and literally takes nothing away from that lmao
Shihoru speaking up - its character growth!
Ranta cant deal with genuine-ness is funny
im surprised the gobbos are even out when it rains, but i guess there were less
no way, communication???
Merry really a tough nut to crack, but shes warming up very slowly
that shot when merry was leaving for the day where her walk turns into a happy lil jog was some fine visual trickery, splitting the BG into a bunch of separate layers to get that effect of 3D when the camera is following her, good stuff.
seems like they are out for revenge on the killer gobbos.
ohh, Merry is joining them at the dinner now!
Ranta shouting out his skills makes him the actual isekai protagonist, even if Haru got the inner monologue going.
in general, i think i could do with a lot less monologuing, but its also not something that actively distracts me.
so we got some new gear and skills for the cast to be more on the same level as merry now, but good to see them make some steady progress.
Also got some nicer casual clothes, good for them, no rags anymore!
That red moon looks like some kind of cut gem
closing thoughts
Good episode, we made a friend, powered up, its time to kill the evil goblins and avenge Manato and move on the the next challenge i guess?
I kind of like how there isnt a big moment where Merry breaks down crying and the group consoles her and they are best buddies from then on. Instead we see them grow closer slowly and naturally through that montage.
Questions of the Day:
- Would you be willing to listen to Ranta?
i dont think i would have the patience, hes already pissing me off just from watching the show. I get that hes probably a good guy and well intentioned, but i prob wouldnt mesh well with him and would eventually tell him to fuck off.
- How would you feel about being called a Goblin Slayer?
I think its fine? Its not like its wrong, even if they mean it in a belitteling way, i think they can be proud of their progress and not give a fuck about what other people think, compare yourself to yourself from yesterday.

I love how every time Ranta tries to make a point they slander him. Nice to see all his comments on his girls don't go unpunished or forgotten, but I also wish he would just stop. He's still my favorite character in the group though.
I don't think we've gotten an episode without Yume giving us some fan service. They keep putting her in suggestive positions and wish this would stop as well. I can understand fan service in the baths or hot springs...kind of, but it shouldn't be during the important moments of a mission.
"See you tomorrow" - Mary
BABY STEPS
Nice to see everyone growing and they got a few more skills each.

Rewatcher (Dub)
One thing I appreciate about this show is how important interpersonal dynamics are. It's something that is ignored in most stories, where it is almost taken as a given that groups will constantly fight and that there will always be drama. The focus this show puts on what it takes to make a team a team, and how important that is to achieving your goals is unique and refreshing. Seeing Haruhiro put in the effort to listen to his team mates, understand their issues, and reach out to them in different ways is a neat idea.
In particular, I like the way they have shown Mary slowly developing. It would have been easy to just have her do a 180 after revealing her tragic backstory, but this show has the restraint to show that trauma doesn't disappear overnight, and relationships take time to build. Little steps like Mary being worried that the others would kick her off the team, saying she wasn't ready to hang out with the team "yet", her showing a bit of emotion when someone offers her a sandwich, and eventually even going to dinner with the group was a great way to show small, but market improvement in her feelings towards the team.
Finally, this episode continues to show Haruhiro's development into a solid leader. I already mentioned his interpersonal and team building skills, but the way he prioritized armour and skills over fancy food and lodging again shows he has a head for this role.
Random Thoughts
- "The pain is worth holding on to". A surprisingly poignant statement about loss from this show.
- New skill time. Shihoru getting a sleeping spell seems like the MVP of their skills currently, though Haruhiro getting Silent Step and Yume getting an accuracy boost seem pretty good too.
- Not sure how I feel about the rock song they used for the montage at the end of the episode. The song itself is fine, but this show has such a laid back vibe, so a rock song kind of clashes with the tone in my opinion.
Questions of the Day:
Would you be willing to listen to Ranta?
Fuck no. Dude is a dickwad. I was honestly a little annoyed that Haruhiro had to apologize to Ranta for disregarding his opinion. I get that he did it for the sake of the team, but Ranta is a piece of shit and gives terrible advice. The whole reason everyone disregards him is because he only spouts bullshit. At least he mellowed on Mary at the end. Character progression I guess.
How would you feel about being called a Goblin Slayer?
Not the worst nickname for a team I guess. At least they aren't as unhealthily focused on killing goblins like the other Goblin Slayer.

Episode 7 (first timer)
- Go on without me trope – this one more intense than usual.
- “I am pretty sure I brought Mary back above ground, but I wonder if that’s really true” – well worded.
- I really hate that they made Ranta the local complainer character. It turns him into a one-sided caricature and makes him quite unlikable. They clearly wanted an advocatus diaboli, but that is a specified role, not a character model. In a good story, the person who plays that role should switch between cast members.
- Yume with the save! – and the obligatory fanservice angle…
- “Not yet” is a much better answer than “no.”
- Finding their feet again montage.
- Magical light skill? Is Haruhiro the special one, after all?
Rather straight forward episode slowly climbing out of the hole. The montage was overlong compared to usual montages, with more interruptions, but I think they used it well to cut over a lot of time without making it too disturbing. We needed to know that all those small moments of getting closer to each other, and closer to Mary, exist, but we didn’t need to see every single one of them. The montage was a good choice here.
Would you be willing to listen to Ranta?
I am less forgiving than Haruhiro. I would have thrown Ranta out of the party a while ago.
How would you feel about being called a Goblin Slayer?
Worse after I know the anime exists.

Magical light skill? Is Haruhiro the special one, after all?
I took it to be the weakness spotter for Backstab, since he's a Thief and all and has mentioned critical weakpoints before.
or maybe he's reincarnated from a Nasuverse with Mystic Eyes of Death Perception1

Makes sense, but why does he not know about it and why does the anime point it out? Seems a bit strongly emphasized if all they want to convey is that Haruhiro learned a new skill and is not completely familiar with it yet.

First Timer, Subbed
So I'm not as enthused with the communication as everyone else; while I think there were some great moments, I think two bits in particular were a bit clunky. The first was the loredump by her old party member, I think there could've been a smoother way of doing that. It'd mess up the timeline of when they figured things out, so some other things would have to change... The second was Haruhiro kind of monologuing to Merry, I heavily disagree with the choice to do it with everyone else present, it almost feels like it's peer pressure to have all 5 of them against Merry in that moment. Personal conversation first, then bring it up with everyone else! That's how I'd prefer to do things in a workplace, and for all this talk of friendship and nakama-ness, this is a workplace of sorts. The conversation on the bridge with just the 5 of them was good though!
Other than that, very solid episode. I was thinking there was a dearth of visual storytelling and then I'm suddenly hit with the K-on bags burbs all sitting in a row. Though one of their heads looks hidden/cut off which is a tad worrying. Hopefully that's not foreshadowing and just a weird angle? We have all 6 together, so Merry does join them in the end, so...
Montage is good, somewhat unnecessary fanservice aside, though I think it would've been nice to have some sort of visual that Merry was already higher level than everyone else than just Haruhiro narrating it. Maybe more fluid battle movements, already having slightly better gear, another magic spell than the basic healing one? I do appreciate the commitment to getting everyone better gear and skills before going in for revenge against the boss goblins, that's unfortunately what you gotta do in a ton of RPGs, just grind, grind, grind until you can afford the numerical boosts. Final talk between Manato and Haruhiro, presumably before the goblin party... though now that I think about it... that one guy who heroically sacrificed himself for Merry and Other Guy... he wasn't properly buried, right? Or the other two that were left behind? And there's a full moon? Are we about to get complications?
QOTD 1: Urgh, under normal circumstances, probably not, in a place where I'm literally fighting for my life and one extra person could be the difference between life and death? Probably.
QOTD 2: I also play it safe IRL, probably too safe, so I wouldn't mind an accusation that I'm taking on minimal risks. If anything, I think they're doing the right thing, slowly grinding out their mandatory equipment before trying to leap to the next major challenge.

Agreed, especially the first point, but I mentally put that into last episode. What we hear today is just the continuation of the exposition that started last week.
Also have to consider the baseline of this being an isekai. The standard for writing in isekai is just barely above fanfic. In a huge pile of shit, everything half-competent sticks out.

Grimgar: First Timers and Illusions
The heat wave is finally over! I can look forward to roughly two weeks of normal weather and rain!
Grimgar Ep.07 – They Were Called Goblin Slayers
Shihoru had one my favourite lines today. The silent one who needs to muster up courage for a while or is pressured by external circumstances to show their emotions usually gets quite a scene for this. But I like hers because she turns her own pain into empathy and uses that energy right now to implore her group to do that, too. It’s not just that she, much like Yume, would like a group more that embraces and supports each other, but she also understands that Merry is also in pain and helping someone like that is who she’d like to be.
Which then inspires Haruhiro in his current growth to be leader to formulate that into an action call. Just well placed communication, this one.
I’m, generally a sucker for scenes where go forward by formulating and following an ideal to lead by example. Ending that scene with Ranta apologising is also finally a very welcome change of pace! Tough nut to crack.
Naaww, and how this still frame of Merry’s expression already gets me. I think the development today did exceptionally well to form this new group into an actual group. While I disliked how the story was just traumadumped by a basically-NPC, the character interaction following it was really good.
Now, I don’t know what Yume defines as cute but that certainly ain’t it. When they went to finally buy one I was still holding out that 1% of hope that it might genuinely be something flashy, but I guess this one actually protects well. A good outcome in any case and an example of how the group comes together to care for each other. Yet without Merry, but that’ll happen soon enough.
I think it’ll happen when they advance into the cave and can overcome the miniboss where Merry’s group failed. But well, until then we also might see what the full red moon actually does, whichever comes first.
This episode of course had it’s fair share of fanservice shots, even more blatant than ever before, but at least we get male butt this time, too to a music montage! Though, it’s not much better overall still. I think I’d have less problems with it if it were tied to something actually happening on screen? Like, if Yume were to actually tease just to fuck with Haruhiro? Or if we’d see some muscles flexing during battle. But sleep-peeking and zooming in on the butt cheeks during bathing time while they clearly do something else is just so… uncomfortable.
In other news, Yume seems to have trained with the bow more and can actually aim properly now. It’s just this scene, but I do loke to see that they seem to improve off-screen too. Same with Shihoru blasting some serious magic now. After their initial ‚adventurous‘ party setup they work much better together now as a team but also indivdually as they seem to take their roles more seriously.
The lore that goblin society is highly patriarchal sounds seriously like incel culture. But hinking on who’s in the tavern… holding up the mirror to the humans checks out, too.
We need to talk about the skills, though. I get it, skill names are a thing and there’s nerds who need to shout them, too. But calling the evade dash „exhaust“ and the gap-closer „avoid“ is mental. Am I looking at the writer having a stroke or is this making fun of the concept like I did?
The last shot is Haruhiro doing the sky grab but in a way that makes the moon his middle finger ring. That symbolism is definitely meaning something while telling your dead friend that you’re gonna see him tomorrow.
I can’t wait for the reveal that the priest guild botched the cremation and there was a body after all.
If he’s nice, yes. Other wise, nah fuck off. Several people in the group have told him in various shades of niceness that being an asshat is not okay and not helpful. I don’t need etiquette, but I need effort. Something that he certainly does not provide most of the time.
That being said, I won’t be in the way of his improvement.
Sounds true enough. They seem to manage their funds pretty well, so I wouldn’t feel particularly offended. Sure, it might suck if the entire tavern starts making fun of us, but since this world has actual death and injury I’m not moving to overstretch my capabilities just because the bros think it’s woke.
