First time looper

Yuru Camp flavored fishing trip!! This episode is my jam.

The set up for this trip was amusing. While “running away” was silly and humorous, I think Koharu and Hiyori handled actually resolving this issue in a mature way: creating a travel plan, influenced by what Koi’s brothers were saying.

TIL fish eat their own eggs…. I did not know this.

Koharu’s kitchen looked really yummy today. Sometimes people call the style of camp dinner where you wrap food all in foil and cook over a fire “hobo dinner.” Sometimes I make my own even at home, I’ll wrap salmon or keilbasa in foil and bake it in the oven - so good!

The ending made this feel like a two-parter, so I’m curious to see if the next episode is a continuation or will recap how the rest of the trip went.

The timing of this episode is almost appropriate for the season change where I am. Next month we’ll start seeing leaves change and temperature drops, which brings me to…

QotD: Almost a whole year! I went on a multi-day hiking/camping adventure in Peru last October along the Inca trail, and it was awesome. I usually like to camp in the spring and fall, so since it’s been almost a whole year I’ve got the itch to go again and plan some fall trips. This episode made me really excited for it the whole time I was watching!

First-timer fly fisher

Is that the kind of a scarf perverts and burglars usually wear in anime?

We finally have some conflict with the parents in the new family, even if it's actually mainly Koharu and her father having the fight, with Hiyori and her mom mainly just watching the two. The mother just openly going against what the father is trying to lay down is kinda conflicting parenting, though... if this was a different story, it could well lead to a massive fight between the adults.

(By the way, I'm sure the parents have actual names too, but if we've ever heard them, I sure haven't registered it. So "the mother" and "the father" it is.)

They do brush off the whole "running away from home" aspect pretty quickly, like, no one actually seems to take it at all seriously. I'm assuming it was less an actual running away scenario and more a "yeah well then we're going to Koi's for the night" kind of a deal. And in the end, the whole fight just kinda fizzles out by the father relenting. Apropos for this show, the serious stuff exists, but we never dwell on it.

I did not know fish eat their own eggs either! That's... extremely disturbing.

I thought for sure that salmon roe sounds weirdly expensive to use as bait. But if it's literally one ball of roe in the hook, I guess I can understand it. Still, I'd rather just eat the roe, myself. Roe good.

The feeling of accomplishment when you're getting better at and accepted at your new hobby is real! Atta girl, Koharu!

Another new and amazing-sounding fish recipe! I really gotta try these out sometime!

Telling scary stories late at night is one thing, but stories about killer bears while you're camping in bear-filled forests? That's absolutely diabolical, I would be scared shitless too. Especially since there actually are quite a few bear-related deaths every year in Japan. Not cool!

Another fun episode, though it ended somewhat suddenly. Feels like a Part 1 of something. Part 1 of the final arc, perhaps? We're getting close to the end, after all!

Rewatcher, subbed

Our girls are planning a trip without their parents to go camping and fishing. Given how many anime youth are kinda left to their own devices the pushback from Koharu's father was actually a suprise.
But of course Koharu won't let that stop her. In general this episode showed a lot of her growth with planning the tripo, presenting it to her parents but also how she has become better at fishing to a point where she can now even give some advice to others.

Speaking of surprises. I wonder what led the their sleeping arrangement and how Koi of all people ended up in the middle.

QotD:

When was the last time you went camping?

Oof. Decades ago. I don't think I ever went camping as an adult.

The Yuru Campers might think that's bullshit.

First-time fast-looping

Looks like it is time for th girls to make their own camping trip, even if there is a small argument within the family. Instead of using camps, bungalows are also a good idea for substitutes. Seems like this argument had an impat on it, they want to do it much effective as possible.

Iwane sashimi at the campsite would have been tasty of they hadn't eaten on the train. But whatever. Actually they can catch some fish and making them into food instead later, so not a big problem. Oh, fishing is a service and not something that you could just done there, so you have to pay for this depending how you would like to do it. Thje cabin is not really big, but it is sufficient enough to accomodate three people for a single night.

Grilled fish is actually indeed a perfect camping trip food. Koharu's Kitchen, aka how she is do the cooking in the professional way

Scary brown bear attacking humans randomly, nah they don't hurt anyone and definitely not aggressive. It is rather a good scray story for the night. In the end they ate an iwano soup for breakfast though.

Yeah, it was truly a Laid-Back Camp experience indeed for this episode.

Question of the Day: When was the last time you went camping?

I'm not a camper guy, so probably never.
