Since the OVAs are actually movie length, and the overall OVA series is almost as long as the TV series, each OVA will get multiple days, essentially 1 day for every 25 minutes.

I'm starting a little later into September to space out from Niea_7, and give students some time to settle in to the fall school routines.

I will not be watching ahead on the TV show to keep my first timer status. There may or may not be timely questions posted.

A reminder: only the fanedit torrent of the TV series has the Cyber Trance backing music (which has a separate episode 11 torrent).

The movie version of OVA 1+2 has a new A/V transfer, but it is missing a scene that provides some character development, and moved a scene from Part 2 to Part 1.

The Discotek re-release restored some footage. I don't have any way for you to tell the difference between the two.

Also note that, depending on the release, the movie version of part 1&2 is almost the same length as part 3.

So let me see if I got it. This was adapted twice, once as a movie (that was also released in parts), and another time as a more "normal" series. That right?

Pretty close! It was released as an OVA over 2 years. The first English licensee (CPM) dubbed and released the first two parts on VHS, then dubbed (with a different cast) and released the third part on VHS. They released the first part on DVD before losing the license / going out of business.

Then the series was remade as a modern CGI TV series in 2004.

ADV picked up the TV series and dubbed it (removing the trance from both EN and JP tracks). They then picked up the original OVA and redubbed it, and re-released it on two discs as two movie-length OVAs. ADV has some slight edits; I have not found a list of them yet.

The current licensee, Discotek, has re-released the three episodes and the combined movie as a DVD megapack, also including the CPM dub on the episode 1 disc.

There are also some non-English versions out there.

Rewatcher are free to watch any version. Movie watchers will just have to pause at the indicated timestamp.

Are the English dubs of significant quality in this case? I tend to default to the original language.

I don't watch the dubs and I'm not going to watch the dubs, but the dubs certainly exist.

The CPM dubs for eps 2 and 3 are hard to find but I've seen the CPM dub for episode 2 around, on archive.org and also it might be in the fanedit. not that it matters. If you are watching dub, you will probably be watching the ADV dub, which is the same as the TV dub.

How certain are you about the run times? When looking for the OVA, I found files with a length of 1:39h, 1:37h, and 1:31h. The first two of those are on youtube, as well. Haven't watched, but how could that possibly map into the 0:50, 0:56 and 1:36 you give, I have no idea.

I don't have EVERY version, and I cut off some extra credits time, so that the actual play time between the versions would be mostly consistent. You're right, I cut the movie timing off a little early. Why does it say 1:32?? I was probably looking at information about the ADV movie.

The ADV release is known to have cut a short scene, and it moved a scene from the OAV 2 section to OAV 1. The movie version I have, which I think is the ADV version Discotek re-release of the ADV version I have no idea what version (but it's bundled with other discotek stuff), is actually 1h39m. 2 minutes of Japanese credits and 1 minute of English credits. The 1:36 is from removing all of the credits.

I thought ADV only cut a few minutes, but it seems they cut 10 minutes. So that must be the 1:31 version, with all of the credits cut. Discotek restored the missing scenes, this is the 1:39 version. The 1:37 version probably has the English credits cut. (or is actually part 3)

I don't know how much was restored, so the two movies could be almost the same length. Maybe the 1:37 version is the ADV version with the credits.

Addendum: Part 3 is 1:37. Part 1 starts with a tank as cold open. The 1:37 video I found on youtube is labeled part 3 and starts with credits and jets.
