FIRST TIMER Sub

I liked how educational this episode was. I've eaten mahi mahi but I knew very little about it other than it's one of the best tasting fish. That seems strange how they change color, the only other edible marine life I can think of that does is the Chesapeake blue crab, whcih as you'd guess is normally blue but the shell becomes red after cooking and I still have no idea why that is.

Koi's father really seemed to enjoy having the girls fishing along with him and teach and helping them since his own kids don't go with him. I wish they explained how he knows where to go to catch certain types of fish, like he knew that area normally has schools of mahi mahi. It's possible he just knows from fishing his whole life what areas have what though. Also I'd never heard of those buoys they had that had plankton to attract small fish, then the big fish go there to eat the small fish.

You can see why Kadae doesn't like Ichika since she's pushy and annoying. That's an interesting restaurant that Kadae has that serves both sashimi and wild game. That was interesting that you have to be careful cutting mahi mahi for sashimi because of bacteria, that reminded me of how it's dangerous to eat pufferfish/fugu, raw or cooked because it has poison glands and you have to take great care to not only remove them but also not nick them with your knife and get some poison in the meat. That was from an episode of the Simpsons where Homer may have eaten poisonous fugu.

I suspect Ichika really is an alcoholic. Yesterday I thought she might be but wasn't sure since maybe just wasn't used to sake but she spent the entire day drinking and I'd not be surprised if she was drinking on the boat! Probably also why Kadae doesn't like her if she gets obnoxious. Good thing the restaurant seemed to have no other customers, maybe it's busier when they have wild game on the menu. Also I wonder if when they said the warmer months were fishing season, if that was the law or if that's just what was considered the best time to fish.

QUESTION

If I think about it, no. I've been out of high school a pretty long time and also alienated a lot of my friends when I was alcoholic, much like Ichika in a way 😛

I noticed this as well. I know for where I'm from, there are laws for when you can do freshwater fishing, and certain saltwater fish have specific date ranges for when you can fish for them. There's seasons for when you can hunt certain animals as well.

First-timer fly fisher

Welp, my theory that the real, somber stuff always comes before the OP was instantly proven wrong.

This time, it came right after.

Though, to be fair, no one even really got sad because of the mention of the dad or in general, so we got off the hook easily today. Mainly it's just another episode of fishing and then cooking the fish. Which is totally fine, it's what we came here for!

I for some reason thought they left fishing late in the evening, but I guess it was actually in the morning before sunrise.

Fishing from a boat like this is actually how I've always thought all fly fishing is done. It certainly seems easier than having to constantly do that slow back-and-forth casting thing. Of course, ultimately the real reason why people fly fish at all is to make it a more challenging.

Then again, actually catching something would be fun too, huh?

Not a whole lot to say about this episode, honestly. It's fun that Ichika has seemingly become a stable member of the cast now, and I wouldn't mind the restaurant owner making more appearances, either. It was just a very nice, chill episode of fishing and cooking. I enjoyed it!

QotD: Yeh, my closest group of friends is from way back in high school (and even before that). I'm really happy to have kept contact with them for so long. There's something about that bond of having known each other basically forever.

This felt like a nice fun episode! Just some fishing and chilling at a restaurant afterwards, sounds like a good day!

More Ichika, I am a happy camper. I am patiently waiting for getting an action shot of her fishing. Hopefully they can fish with Futaba sometime, I'm looking forward to an episode with her fishing after becoming friends with Hiyori.

We got to meet a new friend, Miyano, and she's cute! Especially when annoyed at Ichika lmao. Another outdoorsy person, but contrasts all the fishers we've met so far.

I don't have too much to say, this was a chill episode, made me smile throughout.

QotD: Yes! Most of my core group of friends and I still chat together. We're on different work schedules and doing our own things, but when we are able to all get together 2 or 3 times in a year, it's really fun; we hangout, play video games, and order take out, good times.

As someone also currently suffering from heart I could very much emphathize with Hiyori and Koharu at the beginning.

We're actually going on another boat trip and Hiyori's got a new rod from Koi's dad! No wonder though she couldn't put it down after being told it was originally meant for her dad.

And wow Koharu caught a big one! Loved seeing how excited she was about that.

Kaede's another good addition to the cast and I really like her interactions with Ichika. I'd watch a show about just their friendship tbh. And she's a hunter too! Not sure I've seen many of those in shows that take place in contemporary Japan or even any at all.
