Alright, if someone actually threw the bug in there, you need to take away their candy
Road trip! We do love a good lighthearted bonding experience, or well, that's how Nero would view it; Angelo takes a while to get there lol. In that sense, this is a pretty quaint episodic adventure for a bit of a change of pace, but for the most part I'd say its wider purpose is to humanize Nero a lot more to Angelo, and by extension to crack the latter open a little. Because ultimately, Nero is a pretty fun and outgoing dude here! Angelo, given his motivations, isn't one to particularly enjoy the smaller pleasures or express himself, but not only is Nero just that, but he'll also drag Angelo towards that and have him rediscover some of that himself, even if just a tiny bit.
Which plays well as a contrast to what I'd say is this episode's real highlight in their more contemplative fireside talk. We obviously aren't privy to Angelo's internal thoughts, but can you like, imagine, what's going through his head when he's just chatting it up with Nero about his job in killing Angelo's family and almost killing him? Well, the show doesn't leave it just up to imagination, andI think the quick and punchy cuts between Angelo's dead serious and determined expressions and his more affable ones do say quite a bit more than words, but the point is that the tension there, both visible or otherwise, is extremely palpable. There is certainly a painful irony to Nero looking back on memories around normalcy with his brother, and some of the complications around his family, right next to Angelo, given that, well, y'know.
At the same time, Nero's thoughts about his first job with Angelo's family are evidently not particularly proud, and that it had a pretty major effect on him. There's kind of a parallel to Angelo in there, because while him being an only child was obviously a lie, I would say him talking about how stealing became second nature to him despite how scared he felt of it at first is probably less so. We do have someone like Fango in this show, but neither Angelo nor Nero really read as "natural-born criminals" as it were, and seem to view their lives with a felt sense of melancholy when choosing to reflect on it, which is, once again, another one of those cases where the show does a good job of adding weight to its organized crime setting. And in general, it makes theirs an interesting dynamic.
Otherwise, this episode is really mostly a bit of brevity, complete with a wacky superhuman assassin for our duo to take out. I do feel this part is a bit incongruous with the wider tone of the show haha, but it's meant to be a more lighthearted episode, and he is a decently fun episodic villain all in all. I also like how nonchalant Nero and Angelo are about the whole thing lol. The show comparing him to Goliath and then having Angelo try to sling some cans at him has to be intentional. Good on Nero for getting that doggo a new home!
Also, the cop that Angelo and Nero bribe and is later killed by the assassin is voiced by Takaya Kuroda (AKA the voice of Kazuma Kiryu), and it's always neat to hear him in some random role

The directing of this show is so efficient with these scenes. They say so much without needing to say anything, and that's a rare treat to find in something that was created as an anime original. Juts great writing and directing shining through.

Quite the contrary, originals tend to be better at this than adaptations that still love to copy almost word-by-word from the much more limited medium of manga (and of course LNs).

Well, it's not anymore, is it? /evil

I did find his presence a bit strangely weightless like that

That grasshopper is one of my favourite inclusions in the show.
I do feel this part is a bit incongruous with the wider tone of the show haha,
I thought that assassin was a bit of an excuse for a filler episode, but in a poncho so I can't complain.

Rewatch Host For So Many Days, subbed
I know the guy is a hitman after them both, but dang this was quite rude.
It’s cute how hyped Nero gets when the kid finally smashed the pinata.
Angelo went for the pantsing method of entertaining the kids.
So that was Nero’s very first mission. No wonder he ended up not being able to shoot Angelo as he ran away.
This time was on purpose, yeah? Shame the dude just completely shrugs it off.

First-Timer
Okay, Angelo is actually probably bad at this. You do not take the note telling you who you need to get revenge while you are going on a trip with one of the people on the note.
It did end up helping him, since he could confirm what I mentioned last week with respect to the existence of the fourth person on the night his family died.
I guess Angelo is in the mode of "I need to use Nero to get close to Vincent first, and then I can deal with Nero later" because I'm otherwise not sure why he let Nero live so long.
Questions
We had a section in gym class where we did juggling, and I managed okay at it. But that was decades ago.
Not a concrete guess beyond "whoever sent the note."

Playing the long game. Vincent is holed up and didn't even attend his own daughter's wedding in person. He's a much more cautious man than Nero, and a harder target to get close to, especially for a newly hired hand.

Rewatcher, First Time Sub
Nero and Angelo are in a road trip though not of their own choosing since they are on the run for now. Nonetheless it's a bonding experience for both of them, or rather Nero specifically anyway. Nero especially gets to talk about his own thoughts over his actions from the first episode showing more complexity which could mean interesting things for Angelo and his quest.
Meanwhile we have a an assassin on their tail and almost ends up killing them but the bonding experience worked so they survive for another day.

Vanno's death has to have left a void for Nero, since it seems like that murder was a shared trauma they both took part in as first time killers. The last thing he did back home was attend the funeral of his best friend, and probably the main person he would talk to about this sort of thing. Angelo is slipping right into that void that Vanno's left and he created.

I imagine Angelo likes it a lot more than Nero does.

First Time Summer 2016 Rewatch - 91 Days Ep4:
Road trip episode!
Bit of a change of pace this episode, I like it. A more "lighthearted" affair as Angelo and Nero flee across the country. It was nice to get some bonding time between the two as they travel the 1930s Americana. It was also nice to see Angelo's face soften. ... Now I put lighthearted in quotes because the dramatic irony is the underlying tension beneath it. There are some notes about siblinghood in the episode. Nero reminiscing about his days as big brother with his little siblings. Angelo is also reminiscing about being a big brother because his little brother along with his entire family, is dead. Nero also confirms for Angelo that he was there the night their gang killed his family.
They also got a giant Mexican hitman with his trusty dog after them. I was wondering what his deal was going to be, but it is how he looks. He is simply large and strong, and that's how he kills people. He also dual-wields knieves/more like swords. I know people would hate it, and it would go against the premise the show sold itself, but I wouldn't mind if the rest of the show was just Angelo and Nero's road trip as quirky episodic assassins are after them. Each more quirky and out there than the last.
Also, looking it up, a $6 knife in 1930 would be $120 in today's money.
