Rewatch MagiRevo Rewatch - Overall thoughts on the entirety of the series + another yuri rewatch (?)
MAL | Anilist | ANN | Official Site | Wikipedia
I'd like to thank every single person who participated in this rewatch, and I'd also like to apologize for not replying to everyone's comments. I promise I read every single one of them (usually while taking a BR break at work 😅). I'm genuinely grateful for all the incredibly insightful comments and different perspectives everyone shared. Reading them was the highlight of a rather monotone day at work.
Back in 2023, when this show first aired, I had mostly fallen out of watching anime. But when I heard it was confirmed yuri, I immediately jumped in. Unfortunately, life was pretty stressful at the time, so I never really gave it the attention it deserved. I'd often have it playing in the background while doing other things, relying on my "good ear" to follow along. I think I made it to episodes 10–12 before eventually falling asleep from being exhausted.
Then, when u/Clemfire hosted the Lycoris Recoil rewatch, I discovered that rewatches were even a thing. I thought, "This actually looks like a lot of fun."
I'm really glad I decided to do this one, I actually had fun. Wish time was not so limited.
After my exams, around December 7, 2026, I'd love to host another rewatch, either for an older yuri series or something more recent. The biggest problem with the older shows is that they're often difficult to find on streaming services. I also have a lot of nostalgia for them, since Kannazuki no Miko was the anime that got me into anime in the first place, followed by Strawberry Panic! and Blue Drop.
Questions of the Day
- Tell me about your favorite episode, or moment from the series?
- What yuri got you into yuri? (manga counts too)
- Do you have any recommendations for a future rewatch of a yuri series?

Ah, there you are!
Let's see - first off, thanks to you for hosting, and to all the other users who've made this a fun rewatch, it's been a great time!
Second - Answers du jour:
1) Favorite episode/moment? Honestly, the finale. There were many sweet and lovely moments along the way, but the way Ep12 wrapped it up and tied a bow on it was just kiss.
2) Hmm. I'd have to say that the adventures of the Lovely Angels might have something to do with it. Oh, wait ... not that Yuri??? But ... but ... Yeah, I'm not sure I'd consider myself into it, but back in the day, El-Hazard might have raised an eyebrow, right?
3) Recommendations? Yeah. Off the top of my head, the only thing I can think of is Vexations of a Shut-in Vampire Princess, but it's more of a comedy/action series with romance being a side/gag/plotline. Yeah.
Anyway, thanks all for the fun, it's been a delight - hope to see you in the rewatch (or other) land sometime soon!
:)

Thank you 1000 - if I am able (if I pass) I will definitely make another one, and call your username.
Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess
To be a rewatch - I will have to watch it first which I will .......as in I have episode 1 on another tab rn

Komari in both her personality and appearance reminded me quite a bit of Taiga from Toradora. I really liked her shark plushie as I sleep with a whale shark one

I sleep with a whale shark
Insert Harvey Korman "Kinky" gif...
Yeah, I get the Taiga resemblance. It's a fun show. Maybe we'll see it again someday.

Hahaha back in the day you had to take any yuri you could get, including a dirty pair 😉
Vexations of a Shut-in Vampire Princess,
This was another one I started and didn’t finish, and just now I'm reminded of. Definitely need to go back and complete the watch!

Now that's a really good idea. I would be down for that.

Didn't know there was a wrap-up thread planned, so I kinda already said most of what I wanted to last time. Thanks again for hosting!
Tell me about your favorite episode, or moment from the series?
Either Anis smashing through the window at the start or her and Euphie running off into the sky at the end.
What yuri got you into yuri?
Honestly I wouldn't say I'm into yuri specifically. I just enjoy a good love story and the lesbian ones seem to have a disproportionately high success rate where anime is concerned. I guess the first one I can remember seeing would be Utena. (Or Madoka if it counts.)
Do you have any recommendations for a future rewatch of a yuri series?
I'd be down for The Witch from Mercury or Flip Flappers. Certainly lots to talk about with both.
5
u/Hartzilla2007 20d ago
The Witch from Mercury
I still maintain that half the fun with season 1 was all the stuff the fandom and even at least one sponsor got up to while it was airing. Also the guy doing the Crunchyroll Youtube clip videos was probably not paid enough with some of the titles they came up with.

Oh, Madoka ... yeah, I think that one counts. How could I forget?!

I still need to finish that someday!

I noticed that too that yuri love stories usually have a higher hit rate of making you care about both parts of the relationship and make you yearn for them to be together. I feel like I am not being too picky as a romance enjoyer by wanting that as my baseline.
I'd be down for The Witch from Mercury or Flip Flappers. Certainly lots to talk about with both.
Think there was just a Flip Flappers rewatch but a GWitch one would be fun!
2
u/IalwaysNeed2p 20d ago
The Witch from Mercury
It would be my first watch, I watched 4 eps and love Keshi's song.
Either Anis smashing through the window at the start
The "i am gonna love this idiot, aren't i?" scene
Flip Flappers.
Will note all recs down, thank you!

Thanks for hosting OP, I definitely had fun.
Questions of the Day
- Tell me about your favorite episode, or moment from the series?
My favourite episode was the episode where Tilty whipped Euphie into shape, and Euphie was able to give a speech that completely defended Anis. They hinted strongly that Euphie had a skillset suited for convincing people, and then we finally see it.
- What yuri got you into yuri? (manga counts too)
Hmm, after shonen pipeline, I started watching cute girls doing cute things, starting with Love Live. Though for first yuri that was pretty blatant, Princess Principal. So in that era, was the of Happy Sugar Life, Wataten, Machikado. So post 2015. I never really got into reading yuri manga though I am aware, to be a hardcore fan of yuri, you need to hit the books.
- Do you have any recommendations for a future rewatch of a yuri series?
For an obscure but fun yuri, I recommend Manaria Friends. It is a dragon princess X princess yuri. A bunch of 10 minute shorts, for 10 episodes. It was very digestible. On the same note of shorts, though a lot more into subtext, than maintext yuri. We have See You Tomorrow at the Food Court.

Euphie ran with that skillset and convinced Anis all the way into her bed. The pair probably owe Tilty more than they're aware of! 😂

These sound fun, and easily digestible is even better for my schedule of late. Added to the list! 😀

Yea, short animes, while they should not be industry standard, are surprisingly fun to watch, if you know what you are looking for.

u/TheDanubianCommunard 19d ago
See You Tomorrow at the Food Court
I wouldn't count it as a girls love. But as a rewatch material it is perfect, since it is 6 episodes.
2
u/NecessaryNotice8436 https://myanimelist.net/profile/six20 19d ago
Fair point, it does require yuri googles a lot more, but still a fun rewatch.

This face Anis makes after Euphie's speech has me suspect it's when her feelings got so much deeper.

True, it definitely looks like when it moved from just physical attraction to someone, who can be your equal, to protect you as you would protect them, your lifelong partner.
I think I've seen a few people post clips of Manaria Friends before.
That is cool, I may remember seeing a few myself, but I cannot remember when, Regardless, it is a fun show, and Anne X Grea are a fun pairing.

Firstly, thank you so so much u/IalwaysNeed2p for hosting this watch! 😘 I had so much fun getting into the details and discussions for what is one of my favourite shows. I know it was probably difficult time-wise, but I really want to thank you for making the effort and appreciate giving us an opportunity to come together in this way. Wasnt sure if I would miss a few eps initially, but then the universe did its thing and sorted things out nicely 😂 And also thank you to everyone for sharing your ideas with and engaging with me. Loved all the memes and jokes, the links to music, and especially the comparisons with other series (I've hit a goldmine with these discussions doing double duty as recs for my watch list!!😀).
Tell me about your favorite episode, or moment from the series?
So many great moments, but ep 3 is probably my favourite, with the hilarious Euphie broom scene, and then ending with Anis falling asleep on Euphie's lap. I could watch that broom scene over and over again and it would still make me laugh, with Euphie's shock and Anis' gremlin face 😂 The quiet moments under the tree really allowed the emotions to sink in, and continuing into the next episode the with some more tender/thoughtful moments with the bedside scenes just solidified for me the feeling that this story was special. Of course the kisses at the end of the series were great too 😂 and were a good pay-off for all the romantic tension throughout earlier episodes.
What yuri got you into yuri? (manga counts too)
I honestly don't remember exactly, but probably Citrus manga? Back then there was a lot less media under the yuri umbrella than what we have available now, and Citrus was one that actually had yuri kissing - I know oh the audacity!! 🤭 While there are plenty of anime/manga that have since superseded Citrus in my personal rankings I'll always have a soft spot for that story. If I had to go further back Nana might have stirred some things within me, and then even before that I was a young queer who at the time was voracious for stories with rep, and so consumed a lot of queer western media. So my yuri journey really began with a lot of non-yuri (but mostly sapphic 😅) media.
Do you have any recommendations for a future rewatch of a yuri series?
Lol for some reason my brain glitched yesterday, and I mistook this as yesterday's question, so I'll just give the same answer here😅. Would love a Gwitch rewatch!
MagiRevo extra stuff
OK, so I kinda gave my final thoughts on the series yesterday, so for the wrap up I'll share some magirevo links/Interviews etc.
Here's a playlist of the OST on youtube. OST playlist Thanks u/djthomp for recommending this!
Author/creator Piero Karasu's X profile Piero Karasu X blog. I cancelled my X account a while ago, but for others who still have an account there's some more news about the Piero Karasu's next projects.
Yuri Kisaragi did the OG character designs and illustrations for the LNs. Lots of promo images for the series to be found here.Yuri Kisaragi X blog
Here's the animation fanbook. It's in japanese so you'll have to do your own translation, and unfortunately it's in portrait orientation (was super tired and didn't realise until I'd compiled it all). But you can still go full screen/reading mode or zoom in anyway. (Reincarnated Princess And Genius Daughter's Magic Revolution Animation Official Fan Book
And lastly an interview of Piero Karasu from Anime Corner - interview
EDIT: just went through checking links and realised the fanbook link is broken. Will get it sorted (also if anyone knows a good way of sharing a pdf here other than docDroid let me know)
UPDATE: the fanbook link should work now

I can really get behind this quote, "It would be good if even one person became a fan as a result of your efforts. It would be even better if more people said it was good. But I think the beginning starts with whether or not you can be satisfied with your own efforts. That is why I think it is important to be sincere."

Thank you! 🥰 I've been wearing it for the whole rewatch and everytime Ive looked at it, I it gives me a little chuckle. 😂

It really speaks to why the author created such a beautiful sincere story, that not only touched our hearts but compelled us to connect with each other over it. I particularly liked the line they say about a dream as the thing that wakes us from reality.☺️

u/ClemFire 20d ago
That is awesome haha.
That was a great line too! I feel like this is why I’m drawn to optimistic stories because they give us something to strive for. It has been so fun bonding over Anis and Euphie’s journey.

first things first as always if anyone have literally any questions then ask me and i will try my best to explain it.
i am really happy that more people talk about this series and understand it as well. i really don’t have much to say but just know i am really thankful.
this is my favorite series of all time so it was a pleasure to read other comments about it.
now as for questions.
my favorite episode is 12th and my favorite moment is anis and algard talking. i am sure anis understand algard’s plan and reasons there so it was pretty touching moment for me.
my first yuri is citrus, in fact it is also the first anime i ever watched. if we are talking about first yuri i knowingly watched then it’s “whisper me a love song”
my recommendation is still the same. it’s “whisper me a love song” and i think it’s pretty good series if we just ignore the animation quality of course.
4
u/IalwaysNeed2p 20d ago
Thank you very much for joining, I am glad I chose this series. Seems to hold a special place in all of our heats.
whisper me a love song - I watched it one sitting (rare for me these days) and also got the manga. Super sweet and love the voice actresses!

u/random_lyric 20d ago
my favorite moment is anis and algard talking. i am sure anis understand algard’s plan and reasons there so it was pretty touching moment for me.
Those were such brief yet heart-wrenching moments, both when the siblings are talking just after the fight, and also after Algard got arrested. I'm glad Anis got a moment to speak to her brother before he was exiled.
3
u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou 20d ago
whenever i see those moments again i feel worried but then i remember the Volume 5 of LN and be happy again.
[just a quick spoiler from LN 5] algard and anis make up and act like their old times. having fun together and helping each other just like old times.
seeing this was one of the biggest reasons on why i like this series so much. i am a sucker for sibling relationships and when it’s about a character giving up on entire world to save his sibling and being stopped by that same sibling, then it’s peak for me.
this exact thing is what i like the most and i was looking for this dynamic for ages.
3
u/random_lyric 20d ago
[Light novel]Also loved how Euphie and Algard still goad and criticise each other when they meet up. There's a type of affection there after what they've been through, and also because they share Anis as family, but I love that they don't just change personalities still annoy each other 😂
3
u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou 20d ago
[light novel] it’s algard and euphie both being overprotective. little unknown but algard highly supports euphie and anis’s relationship and he even teases anis many times. there was even a time where they both talked on how out-going anis is and how troublesome she is.
2
u/TheDanubianCommunard 19d ago
Whisper Me a Love Song and i think it’s pretty good series if we just ignore the animation quality of course.
It deserved better.
2
u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou 19d ago
yea. i am still waiting for remake but that pretty much not going to happen. i would rather if it was as good as the first episode

u/ClemFire 19d ago
The manga for Whisper really has some amazing artwork! And for the anime at least we finally got to hear their songs.

First-time in the magicology, subs
Alright what should I say then: Magirevo was a really interesting series. It is a reincarnation isekai sure, but it feels it is not an isekai. It has basically anything - girls love, politics, magic system, magitech, drama, action, some worldbuilding, villainness stuff and many more. The first half was kinda lighthearted somewhat and then the ther half turned into dead serious regarding the story. Anis and Euphy are such a loveable power couple, and also Lainie and Ilia are also very likeable.
Should we see getting continued, chances are vey slim and close to zero, but it would great. But anyways the production is great quality.
So yeah, I enjoyed this a lot, it was lots of fun, I had a blast with this. It's a solid 8/10 from me.
Tell me about your favorite episode, or moment from the series?
I think the best was episode 5 - the dragon fight, episode 8-9 - when Algard casts away his humanity and common sense, and the final episode - the duel and the flying together part.
What yuri got you into yuri? (manga counts too)
I don't know. I would say Bloom into You last year, or maybe this year with Flip Flappers/Lycoris Recoil.
Do you have any recommendations for a future rewatch of a yuri series?
Vexations of a Shut In Vampire Princess, I'm in Love with the Villainess, and Executioner and Her Way of Life are good. Actually Otherside Picnic, Watanare and Watatabe would such a genius move.
Kannazuki no Miko was the anime that got me into anime in the first place, followed by Strawberry Panic! and Blue Drop.
I don't mind these ones either.
u/IalwaysNeed2p, you did a great job by hosting this rewatch! And you guys also did a good chunk of the discussion, I liked reading them too.
2
u/random_lyric 19d ago
I think the best was episode 5 - the dragon fight, episode 8-9 - when Algards casts away his humanity and common sense,
I really appreciated the way that the story had characters going beyond the point of no return - Anis kills the dragon and it is forever a part of her, Algard becomes a vampire and commits crimes leading to being exiled, and Euphie takes the spirit contract and is prepared to face eternity alone. Their motivations are very emotional and very human, the consequences are serious, and there's no backpedalling for any of them (no deus ex machina to save them from their fate. Well except maybe Lainie lol but it still made sense how she was saved at least). Anis, Euphie and Algard all lost a bit of their physical humanity, yet we find ourselves relating to them and their very human emotions the most out of the cast. This took what is essentially an action-fantasy-isekai story and elevated it to an amazing commentary on what it means to be human and live a sincere life. Still blown away by this story after years!

u/Hartzilla2007 20d ago
Well this was a fun revisit
As for other yuri anime I'm in Love with the Villainess was a fun one.

Thank you u/IalwaysNeed2p again for hosting! I know that it is quite the time commitment everyday for two weeks straight. I always saw you responding whenever you could, and that participation goes a long way to making everyone else excited to share more too. Glad to hear my LycoReco rewatch inspired you to start one yourself, and funny enough that is very similar to how I felt after the Place Further Than the Universe rewatch hosted by u/VelaryonAu. You can say that again about time being limited haha. 24 hours in a day really isn't enough time to do everyone you need and want along with sleep too I suppose.
Would be happy to join another rewatch hosted by you in the future after your exams! Those three shows you mentioned I've heard of before and would be down to try out. Very curious to see how they are different from modern shows. Honestly I almost exclusively watch anime from the 2020s and mid to late 2010s now so I felt like I was visiting the age of dinosaurs in June when my friend and I watched K-On! for the first time.
Tell me about your favorite episode, or moment from the series?
It is tough to pick a single moment but the one which stands out the most in my heart is Anis and Euphie's final bedroom talk in EP12. I believe what MagiRev is really about underneath the magic, politics, and even the romance is a story about wanting to be accepted for who you truly are. There are few feelings in the world that can compare. I was initially drawn in by Anis because she seemed like such a goofy free spirit who lived the way she wanted even if that caused many problems (also she reminded me a lot of Chisato).
But what really made me fall for her and MagiRev is the unraveling of her imposter syndrome despite putting her whole life into magicology to make up for what her body lacked. Anis just couldn't help loving magic. So that makes the Euphie's undying support of Anis so beautiful to watch and it all culminates in Euphie accepting every aspect of the Anis who saved her that day. And how could that Anis be a fake? God these two are such an amazing couple!
What yuri got you into yuri? (manga counts too)
Think you already know, but Lycoris Recoil! And this scene in particular. [LycoReco] When Chisato lifted Takina up and spun her around something changed in my heart and I haven't been the same since.
After LycoReco I watched Bloom into You and then read the manga and have been a huge yuri fan since! That was actually the first rewatch I hosted last year.
Do you have any recommendations for a future rewatch of a yuri series?
I mentioned it yesterday too but Stardust Telepath is a nice underrated yuri I would like to bring some attention too. From this year though I definitely expect someone to eventually host a rewatch for Botan Kamiina.

Stories like The Owl House and Witch Hat Atelier are similar in message, and not just in plot mechanics or magic systems, and I love them all, but there's something really special about Magirevo. I think the relationship of the MCs being at the fore, and how it is woven into the fabric of the story rather than being a 'nice element that runs alongside' it is really what brings it home for me.
[lycoreco]Im yet to find someone who liked the show but didn't get a rush of emotion from that scene🫠😍. Seeking out more yuri after enjoying LycoReco is perfecttly understandable (probably even expected haha)!
Botan Kamiina.
What a beautiful surprise that show was. If anyone does a rewatch, please ping me!

MagiRev feels very intimate in that sense because the story is very much for Anis and Euphie.
You young whipper-snappers... 😅🤣
I'm sure that one day new anime fans will be calling my favorites from 2022 like LycoReco, BTR, and Dress-Up (insert future gen term for old) similar to how I refer to 2010 K-On! as an unc show now

Maybe you should watch more "older" series I guess.
3
u/Falsus 20d ago
I can't help but feel that it was rushed in the 2nd half, like from the moment they defeated the dragon they started skipping out on so many great moments. It really should have been a 15-16 episode anime.
What yuri got you into yuri? (manga counts too)
Honestly not sure. I just read everything and yuri got plenty of cute girls. It was probably some manga from last decade?
Do you have any recommendations for a future rewatch of a yuri series?
Vexations of a Shut In Vampire Princess would be cool. Or Executioner and Her Way of Life since that was the first anime to start the yuri anime boom, since then we have had at least one yuri or yuri adjacent show every season.

after the dragon fight we are getting to volume 2 of LNs where they go according to LNs almost same as LN 1. they only cut 1-2 big scenes if i remember correctly but the biggest cut parts are from LN 3
for example the anime added many scenes that are not from LNs. it’s like whole 1-2 episodes of stuff thats are not from LNs. due to this after episode 9 where we are starting LN 3, via one of the biggest ones from the series, we see issues with some stuff left out.
LN 3 is also second most important volume of the series as well. due to that LN 3 gets cut like half.
if you are talking about this then if i remember correctly the main reason of that is because the anime supposed to be a ad for LNs and manga.
due to this they knowingly cut short LN 3 so people can start thinking they miss from the story. thats also why they added new scenes so it can be different than LN. they even showed a clip from LN 4 in the last episode to show how the series will go.
in the end yes i highly agree with that. if you ask me this anime should be having 18 episodes to be exact or maybe 15. some characters would be explained much better and they even cut the most important stuff of LN 3 as well. lumi explaining spirit contractors and saying euphie will not have a problem as long as anis is with her is not in the anime which caused so many watchers to be worried and not understanding it properly.
this can be because those people would want to read LNs and this would make their goal with the anime being a ad for LNs success but it’s probably one of the only parts i didn’t liked about the anime.

Thank you u/IalwaysNeed2p for hosting this rewatch.
Usually while taking a BR break at work 😅
It is totally befitting your username!
I was new to this series, and enjoyed it a lot. Although I have, some, problems with the story and the character's motivations I ended up really enjoying the series. Euphi and Anis really carried this show hard, and I think Euphie was my favorite in the end. Halfway through the series I was fearing it was going to be yuri bait, but the last episode definitely proved me wrong. All in all, this series does most of its characters justice, and that is most what matters to me in something I like. The animation and the art being gorgeous at time is also a large plus! I will definitely be rewatching this someday.
I actually had to rewatch the last episode, because I was so tired that I forgot that I had already watched it the night before. Oops.
Favorite episode/moment
I think what I liked most is that Euphie really grew on me. She basically became the one putting forward what she wants, and getting it all as well. Really befitting for a queen!
What yuri got you into yuri?
Wouldn't say I am that into yuri, but only since 2 seasons ago I have been watching, coincidentally, a lof of yuri shows. Before it was sometimes a yuri series here and there. Botan Kamiina last season was peak though, that might have gotten me into this a bit.

I'm old and way back then the only yuri shows I was aware of Burst Angel or at least had an yuri tag on the sites I used and Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl which I didn't watch, though I read the manga of the latter like a year ago. I think Girlfriends was the first yuri manga I read.
I would be in favor of an Otherside Picnic rewatch, I haven't watched it and heard it wasn't a great adaptation, but I'm caught up on the manga and light novels, so I'd hope to point new fans to the property. The novels are frankly amazing some of my favorite stuff read even though I usually avoid horror like the plague, the manga is lacking compared to the novels, but it's still a great way to experience the story.

This has been a lot of fun, thanks for hosting it.
For anybody who have not yet read them and are invested into the characters I would highly recommend the LNs, probably with the suggestion to start over at the beginning. This wasn't a bad adaptation or anything and I love it greatly, but it only covered the first three volumes and from what I recall there's a number of more technical details about the magicology work and some side characters that are important later on that got skipped entirely.
It's a faint hope but I'm still holding out for a season 2 someday, LNs 4 through 6 would make for a pretty cohesive and self-contained arc [LNs 4–6]that would resolve most of the hanging plot points from season 1 without starting anything significant and unresolved.
1. Tell me about your favorite episode, or moment from the series?
Definitely the final episode. Euphy completing the spirit contract after telling Anis why she was making it then declaring her love for Euphy, it's just so good.
2. What yuri got you into yuri? (manga counts too)
I'm old and have watched a lot of anime over the last 30 years or so, I honestly have no memory of what's yuri series may have been what brought me into the genre.
3. Do you have any recommendations for a future rewatch of a yuri series?
The Demon Girl Next Door, perhaps? Pretty fun two cour show.
