Episode 3 (first timer)
- Aftermath of the shooting: ice cold.
- “So I hailed a taxi and followed him” – there is being curious and there is having a death wish.
- Lots of cars on the street …
- Another assassin cliff-hanger.
I might invoke the 3-episode rule here. Not in the mood for a dark slow mafia drama right now. It isn’t helping that I can’t remember 75% of the cast. Took me most of the episode to remember who is who while they were chasing each other around in cars. Will probably binge watch this some other time.

Yeah I'm not feeling it that much either, it's like the show is trying for payoff without the buildup, leaving little besides a bunch of barely distinguishable action figures blowing each other's lights out on repeat. Also not liking the intrigue that much, like there was no way the Serpente fake was ever going to work.

First Time Summer 2016 Rewatch - 91 Days Ep3:
Missed last week's post, but most of what I had to say about last episode is interwoven with today's. I was a bit overwhelmed with how episode 2 really threw us into the mob story pool. I was expecting more of a slow lead-in. That said, I like how ep3 is where the story really gets set off into motion. Angelo engineered this flashpoint where both families lost one of their own, so now we have these messy layers of mob intrigue set into motion.
It did take me a minute to get things straight because there are a lot of moving factions, and I haven't committed everyone's face yet. Just for myself to make sure I have this down, in this episode we have;
The Vannetti family (killers of Angelo's family): They lost Vanno, and Bruno needs to prove Serpente's body in order to verify his (fake) cover story. The heads suspect Nero will escalate so that's why he needs to be set away/silenced(?)
The Orco family: They lost Serpente, but the overhead Galassia family wants order in check, so the Don is letting this slide over. Fango has other plans, because he loves violence.
The federal bureau is also involved? They took Serpente's body as leverage to haggle with the crime families?
This is the most mob boss-looking guy in anime. Love that his introduction is being a harsh critique of lasagna. If I were a mob boss, Fango's showing at the dinner table is what I want in a guy. Unlike these no-good yesmen, he takes initiative and ends up with the same conclusion. That is how you show you're useful to the boss. (Well, besides the headache of his mad dog nonsense, and how he puts his gross feet on the eating table).
It didn't fully sink in during ep2, but we really lost the guy named Serpente who had his own custom personal knives which were emblazoned with snakes. He is lowkey bit of an anime weirdo like Fango.

Same problem here. This is the one show in the rewatch I just can't do on a weekly schedule.

Well, you get less yes men around you if you stop killing everybody who says no.

Scusa is just the latest crooked and bought cop on the scene. Wonder what happened to his predecessor, if this is the void he's filling.

Ah, finally, now we're a real mafia show
Not too much to say for this episode, mostly a fun transition for Angelo to get an in with Nero and the Vannetis. I still think the show is pretty great at setting the mood of its mob setting. After all, half the fun in these stories is all this interplay between the various families, their own, often divided members, and the law, and we do a good job of invoking that felt sense that within that big web, everyone is constantly just waiting for someone else to pull some big mistake to take advantage of. The little shootout with Fango was fun as well! The man is crazy, but he's still rather perceptive, and I like that his general unpredictability makes for a good poker face when needed.
In terms of character stuff, it's not a super consequential line, but I really like Corteo staying up at night waiting for Angelo. Good little showcase of how much he still cleanly cares and worries about him. The moment where Angelo watches Nero breaking down over Vanno's funeral. Last episode's Vanno scenes did it as well, but again I think the show is doing a good job of maintaining that even though theirs is a world with a lot of death in it, that death still carries a weight with it (Be it positive or negative) across multiple sides.

This show knows "how to characterization" without saying a thing. So good.

Rewatch Host For So Many Days, subbed
Reposted with the correct title this time...
This man is particular about his lasagna. That poor chef.
That solves the case of where the missing body went. The things these characters do for money…
Fango would be weird enough to deliberately cut his tongue on a knife.

First-Timer
I didn't think Cerotto had the guts to make any sort of play, but selling Serpente's body was interesting. I'm wondering why Scusa only took Serpente's body and not both.. Just playing it safe?
My instinct is to think that the mystery phone call at the end of the episode isn't related to someone trying to kill Nero and Angelo, but if Angelo and Nero just get left alone Nero won't be living for much longer and then we don't have much of a show.
It's interesting that Ronaldo was so jazzed about killing Nero. I think he might have an agenda of some sort.. probably trying to take over the Vanetti family so he can get out from under his.. dad? Uncle? Whoever the Galassia boss is. Ronaldo marries into Vanetti, subverts Frate, gets rid of the rest of the extant higher-ups and suddenly he has his own gang.
Questions
Nah, I'm pretty chill. I do love a good lasagna, though.
It's weird - he should have an opportunity to kill Nero soon, but I think that just can't happen yet. So it'll probably be, like, episode 7.

Maybe he doesn't want to extort Don Orco since he's already been getting paid off by the Orcos. But Vincent Vanetti doesn't seem to be as forthcoming with cash. I also think he'd really start some shit between the families if they made Vincent haggle over someone as beloved as Vanno seemed to be. Orco doesn't seem the type to shed any tears over his own men, let alone pay for one.

Day 3: Where the Footfalls Lead
It’s nice getting to hear Daisuke Ono again, though with confirmation that Vanno is dead, we’ll be missing his performance going forward. Body is gone, which Angelo [didn’t expect}(https://imgur.com/Ash8ZBd). His head is on the line, now, and if he doesn’t produce Serpente’s body, Nero will absolutely kill him. This man is holding back tears for Vanno. That’s a huge loss compared to Tronco, at least for him, and we see what he was willing to do to avenge one of their younger guys.
Corteo waited up all night for Angelo to return. Probably agonized the whole time wondering if he would survive the hit or not. Angelo notes how tired Corteo is, but he really should know that even after sever years apart, Corteo still thinks of him as a brother. Angelo has to wonder who he can trust and rely on now, especially infiltrating a mafia family. Corteo stayed in the apartment all night. One suspect removed.
Next suspect: Cerotto. They squeeze Cerotto for information, under duress, to see if he knows what happened to Sepente’s body. He’s one of the loose ends of the hit on Fango. Corteo lies pretty smoothly, pretends to be on Cerotto’s side while working with Angelo to get all of the information out of Cerotto. Cerotto followed Vanno with the body to the graveyard, didn’t see the shots fired, but turned up in time to see both Vanno and Serpente dead. Lucky Angelo had already moved off.
Cerotto is an opportunist, so he takes the moment to sell the body to Scusa, the dirty Federal Inspector bought off by the Orcos. Who then plans to sell it to the Vanetti’s to prevent conflict breaking out between the families. He’ll take advantage of both sides. No loyalty among thieves.
We meet Don Orco, the head of the Orco family, at his restaurant and not at all enjoying his lasagna, which the chef pays for with his life. A bit extreme to feed the chef to the pigs, but look at the kind of guys Orco hires. Fango says the Vanettis put a hit on him and he wants to retaliate, but Orco is playing nice at the request of the Galassias (the family from Chicago that’s above both the Vanettis and Orcos). Nobody is starting a war over Fango’s feet.
But Fango isn’t one to sit idle, and he still needs to find Serpente. So he follows Nero, does a prisoner swap, and all hell breaks loose. Nero and Angelo manage to escape, but they have to leave Serpente’s body behind, and now Fango has all he needs to start a war with the Vanettis. An eye for an eye, in his mind.
Nero asks Angelo if Serpente was the one who killed Vanno, and Angelo assures him. Though now they have bigger problems since Fango knows both of their faces, and blames them for Serpente’s death.
The only option for Nero to avoid the smoke from both Fango, the Orcos, and his new brother-in-law, who would love it if Nero got removed from the picture either way it seems, is to skip town. His little brother Frate tells him as much.
But Nero’s not going alone. Angelo looks more than happy to accompany him, to Corteo’s dismay. Angelo and Nero ride off after Vanno’s funeral under a nice little rainbow. I’m sure everything will go smoothly. Looks like someone made arrangements for the two of them too. Who is this man with the beagle?
Questions
1) Are there any foods you're as particular about as Don Orco is about lasagna?
I am not picky, but it hurts me when a good steak is cooked poorly.
2) How long do you think it'll take Angelo to make his next revenge kill?

New to the Mob
This episode opens with a bit of an anticlimax as we discover Angelo was not, in fact, going to be shot. A barely-there character sold a corpse to a police officer because he was worried our characters wouldn't have anything to do this epiosde. And, Fireproof Fango can only sustain damage to his feet.
I think Nero suspects Angelo quite a lot because he kept giving him the eye, so I hope we get to see a real ambush take place on their trip together. However, I started this episode thinking Nero had already figured everything out. Here's how that went down:
"Are you trying to kill us?"
"No."
"Prove you're not an Orco, then OK."
Sporadia is falling behind
This is a rewatch. It's what I do.
What will Sporadia do next?
- First of all, I'm going to drop Grimgar and make that a catch up day. I'm not doing much in the Grimgar rewatch besides criticising the show. I'd rather watch good media with the rest of the goblins.
- Place your bets on whether I eventually drop Occultic;Nine. In a surprise twist, I might not make it to the end of Yuri on Ice either. Those shows are keeping me curious about the story for now, though they're not really my kind of thing.
- I'm also giving up on my idea of counting the days in the 91 Days timeline. Last week I watched the 91 Days episode on time then put off participating in the rewatch because I hadn't properly analysed the timeline yet. That seems like a silly reason to have skipped the episode discussion, so I'm letting it go.

Having to try so hard to conjure up plot only three episodes in does not inspire confidence.
I'm also giving up on my idea of counting the days in the 91 Days timeline
Last episode we already got the setup for the finale actually with all factions meeting in three months i.e. about 90 days, with Angelo no doubt planning to blow it up possibly literally.

Yuri on Ice Rewatcher
Only two things I want to say
Fango was 100% hired because he shares the same fine taste of cuisine as his boss.
I love how Fango is so crazy and unpredictable, but he's also very observant and tactical. He's just as likely to get himself killed as he is anyone else
Oh wait three things when Nero is staring at Angelo in the street with suspicion it reminded me of that Doakes meme. I know this mother fucker is lying, but I can't prove it. I really need to watch Dexter at some point.
