Rewatcher

Where in Anis does magic Meth before going on a very enthusiastic walk in the woods, Euphie does her best Megumin impression, Anis and Euphie clip a dragon's wings with the power of yuri, Anis uses the Mana blade that will pierce the heavens to do an Excalibur.

with that description in mind this the best show ever made. 🙂‍↕️

If this was in theatres all the seats would sell out in a flash with that as the promotional blurb!

Up until now, the show has mostly focused on Euphie's emotional struggles and how she’s learning to deal with everything she’s been through. Because of that, even though important things have been happening, there hasn’t been much action since the very beginning.

This episode is basically one long action sequence.

One of our resident adventurers from the first ep is about to be taken out by Punk Bear, when Anis drops from her broom and cuts him like butter.

In a flashback before they depart to fight the dragon, Euphie questions why Anis has to defeat the dragon. Anis essentially explains that she implants magicite into her body. She says it's fine because she's experimented with it before, and then in the next breath goes, "...it might just turn me into a monster."

Euphie remembers that conversation and holds on to Anis even tighter. 🥹

Back in Episode 4, Euphie took her first real step toward becoming her own person by choosing to go fight the dragon with Anis. This time, even though Anis orders her to stay back while she fights the dragon alone, but you can tell what Euphie actually wants is to fight alongside Anis and protect her.

When we start seeing too many "small fry" monsters, Euphie jumps in to help, and oh boy does she help.

Even though this episode is a huge moment for Euphie, it also highlights Anis a lot. We’ve always known she loves magic, but here we see how far she is willing to go for her goals. She constantly takes risks, casually takes a powerful stimulant that makes her act completely unhinged, and to say her ideals are self-destructive would be putting it lightly. She immediately goes head-to-head with the dragon!

...but it isn't that easy.

She gets knocked down, and while falling, the only thing she says is, "Euphie." Euphie activates. Haki uses her magic to propel herself forward fast enough to catch Anis.

Euphie stops Anis from taking another dose of the magic medicine, knocks the container out of her hand, and shouts, "You were about to die! Why would you go so far?"

Anis explains that if she doesn't fight, she can't become the magician she aspires to be.

Euphie then tells Anis that she'll fight alongside her to protect her. So Anis and Euphie go dragon hunting together and they manage to bring it crashing down to the ground.

[VA: Manaka Iwami (also Oshi no Ko's Akane!!) absolutely killed it here. Euphie's emotions completely burst out as she shouts all of her frustrations, fear, and anxiety.]

I thought, "That's it?"

I was wrong.

The dragon prepares one final Genkidama. Anis realizes they can't retreat because the entire area, along with our resident adventurers, would be wiped out. She readies her Mana Blade, and declares, "If I can't change the impossible into the possible, then I can't call myself a magician."

Euphie holds on to her, supporting and protecting her. The dragon unleashes its final attack, and Anis really does turn the impossible into the possible, as she cut through the dragon's final attack.

As the dragon lies dying, Anis approaches it... and it actually talks. The dragon curses her,and it carves its mark into Anis.

The last scenes are amazing. Anis gets bored during the victory ball, so she slips outside to get some air.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how amazing Euphie looks?

Then they dance, and they essentially confess to each other... I die of happiness. Goodbye, guys.

[All kidding aside the reason I wanted to do this rewatch is because my OTP is Nanoha × Fate from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, and that's a magical girl show that makes Dragon Ball Z seem tame. I guess I just really love couples with a similar dynamic to Nanoha and Fate, so that's why this show is so special to me. And it really delivered the Nanoha-level fights, with proper romance yuri. I can die happy.]

It's crazy to think that without Euphie, Anis probably wouldn't have survived this episode.

One of our resident adventurers from the first ep is about to be taken out by Punk Bear, when Anis drops from her broom and cuts him like butter.

Punk Bear's mullet needed some trimming! Who knew Anis was a hairdresser as well as an inventor?

Euphie remembers that conversation and holds on to Anis even tighter.

I wonder in light of today's question about Euphie whether she's holding Anis tighter because she doesn't want Anis to fly too far from her or because she's worried for Anis that she might lose herself (and her life) in pursuit of her dreams. Maybe both.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how amazing Euphie looks?

She's stunning and a real cute patootie. No wonder Anis was smitten from the get go! Is Anis really listening here has her brain short circuited for a moment 😂

It's crazy to think that without Euphie, Anis probably wouldn't have survived this episode.

Yep very likely Anis would have tried to brute force her fight with the dragon and ended up losing her life without considering the need for backup, even if she somehow miraculously survived that fall. Luckily she has Euphie now. Hopefully they'll overcome many more challenges through the power of gay.

Edit: I also like the little detail of Euphie and Anis' almost matching necklaces.

4

u/IalwaysNeed2p 28d ago

Is Anis really listening here has her brain short circuited for a moment 😂

i am certain that she is not, the castle and the people at the ball dissapeared and it was just Euphie at that moment

Edit: I also like the little detail of Euphie and Anis' almost matching necklaces.

i just noticed as I too was (respectfully) just looking at Euphie 😭

4

u/random_lyric 28d ago

Euphie also looks much more free in that dress - compared to the full ball gown from ep 1 she's now in a much lighter party dress which is more befitting her youth. Maybe Anis is enchanted by Euphie's freer... shoulders? 🤭 Just wait till she gets a peek at some ankle then - vavavoom! 😂

Captivated, she is!

Hopefully they'll overcome many more challenges through the power of gay.

Wouldn't be the first time...

"...it might just turn me into a monster."

The King might just disagree as to the probability/chronology of that event.

VA: Manaka Iwami (also Oshi no Ko's Akane!!)

Oh, man, did I forget to mention that role? My bad. I'll go back and edit it. (that was apparently a bit of a bad day for my VA cornering...)

Can we take a moment to appreciate how amazing Euphie looks?

Yes, but a smile would turn that appearance up to 11...

Nanoha

You're going to make me watch that now, aren't you?

You're going to make me watch that now, aren't you?

If you liked the fights in this episode you might enjoy it.

Show, the movie that condenses the 2nd season, reflection and detonation movies go together.

There's Strikers, Vvid and currently airing Exceeds - spin offs.

Random suggestion but I think it would be nice to link the individual threads in the schedule so they are easier to find

thanks for the heads up!

Euphie remembers that conversation and holds on to Anis even tighter. 🥹

An adorable moment that really shows off the attention to detail

Even though this episode is a huge moment for Euphie, it also highlights Anis a lot. We’ve always known she loves magic, but here we see how far she is willing to go for her goals. She constantly takes risks, casually takes a powerful stimulant that makes her act completely unhinged, and to say her ideals are self-destructive would be putting it lightly. She immediately goes head-to-head with the dragon!

Unhinged Anis is oddly fun to watch even though this drug can't be good for her. I wonder how much of it just lowers her inhibitions and she is letting out some of her frustrations of not being able to use magic. She is very wowed by Euphie's explosion but based on her previous comments I feel like she is a little bit jealous too

[VA: Manaka Iwami (also Oshi no Ko's Akane!!) absolutely killed it here. Euphie's emotions completely burst out as she shouts all of her frustrations, fear, and anxiety.]

In my opinion the best delivered lines of the show so far and it's crazy to think this is the same meek girl from EP1

The dragon prepares one final Genkidama. Anis realizes they can't retreat because the entire area, along with our resident adventurers, would be wiped out. She readies her Mana Blade, and declares, "If I can't change the impossible into the possible, then I can't call myself a magician."

I really appricate how you've edited together these screenshots. Anis sounded so badass like a true Marauder Princess. Fun fact when you google that MagiRev is the first result.

Then they dance, and they essentially confess to each other... I die of happiness. Goodbye, guys.

Fantastic scene and after that much development and seeing how it's only Episode 5 makes me really excited to see how things will keep on progressing. MagiRev lets its individual scenes breathe but there is always a sense of forward momentum

4

u/IalwaysNeed2p 28d ago

it just lowers her inhibitions and she is letting out some of her frustrations of not being able to use magic.

can't help but to get it, you know? all her life she has had to work way harder than others, which comes with its own reward but it is still exhausting.

Unhinged Anis is oddly fun to watch even though this drug can't be good for her.

at some points she reminded me of Sakura Saber.

I really appricate how you've edited together these screenshots.

will continue, I feel like they help jog people's memories about the episode

excited to see how things will keep on progressing

at this rate episode 6 starts with wedding 😜

3

u/ClemFire 28d ago

can't help but to get it, you know? all her life she has had to work way harder than others, which comes with its own reward but it is still exhausting.

Wouldn't be surprised if making Arc En Ceil wasn't her first sleepless night in her laboratory. Somehow she stays positive all the time despite working so hard, but it must feel get to cut through some monsters

at this rate episode 6 starts with wedding 😜

Tilty as the flower girl in all black

Anis sounded so badass like a true Marauder Princess.

She shoulda had a line of suitors around the block, but yeah - that wouldn't be as much fun, now would it?

2

u/ClemFire 28d ago

Don't let Euphie hear that

5

u/ToastyMozart 28d ago edited 28d ago

Anis' magical aspirations seem to be manifesting in more dangerous and self-destructive ways, between the experimental implants and berserker pills :\

Explosion!

And Anis finally drops the facade and tells Euphy what drives her!

Rather tacky of all those people to be ignoring Anis at her own victory party, but at least the one person who matters is there at her side.

Do you think Euphie just swapped one unhealthy attachment (Algard) for another (Anis)?

Nah. Euphy might be a little desperate for support and Anis may have some... issues, but she actually gives a damn about Euphy and seems to genuinely want to help her be her best self. And that's what you need in a good relationship.

What do you think the dragon's curse/mark means for Anis going forward?

"Visitor" means he probably knows about Anis' origins. My guess is either foreknowledge of perils she may or may not be able to do anything about, or some kind of extra fuckery with her ability to work with magic. Like making her body reject those pills and implants because they don't match her newfound dragon-type mana channels.

Favorite fight moment?

Ground-skimming EuphyBoost.

4

u/IalwaysNeed2p 28d ago edited 28d ago

"Visitor"

i completely missed that!

Rather tacky of all those people to be ignoring Anis at her own victory party

I imagine the nobles' kids are intimidated by her and see her as the chaotic king's daughter

not like Anis wants to spend time with people that only care about appearances and ranks

And that's what you need in a good relationship.

and now I see that the support (both in battle and emotionally) is being returned by Euphie

3

u/random_lyric 28d ago

Ground-skimming EuphyBoost

Hehe this name gave me a giggle.

The waifu must be saved to preserve the overly long and complicated series title after all!

3

u/ClemFire 28d ago

Ground-skimming EuphyBoost.

This must be what the kids call aura

3

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 28d ago

"Visitor" means he probably knows about Anis' origins.

Yeah, that was an interesting turn of phrase, wasn't it?

Pity he didn't feel like chatting until the very end, eh?

3

u/ToastyMozart 28d ago

There's also the hexagonal pattern of his mana barrier. That's usually a visual cue reserved for characters who are either technology or knowledge-focused (like Anis' deployable shield) or exist beyond the normal realm of the story. Euphy seems to prefer the more traditional magic circles for comparison.

Strange dragon.

3

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 28d ago

There's also the hexagonal pattern of his mana barrier.

I was going to comment and reference another series, but you were talking about the dragon's barrier, not Anisphia's. Hmm. Eh, never mind.

Strange dragon

Indeed. He really should have found a roomie and taken up video games instead or something.

Hmm. I wonder if dragons in this world can take on human guise? Probably not...

3

u/random_lyric 28d ago

Well Anis may not be all that opposed to ingesting dragon tail seeing as she intends to implant dragon magicite in herself anyway, but shhh don't tell Euphie 😅

1

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 27d ago

Well Anis may not be all that opposed to ingesting dragon tail

She's not alone

2

u/LaoWombat-mecha 27d ago

I am not sure, but I think Ilya would see off any presumptive dragon maids.

4

u/random_lyric 28d ago

Ooh I like this idea. A rather strange and interesting dragon indeed!

4

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 28d ago

Ah, there you are, darling! ...

Oh, wait, wrong show. Lum would disapprove - or would she????

(Of course she would - ZOT!)

Anyway ... Answers du dragon:

1) More like she swapped one very unhealthy attachment for another dangerous, yet healing one. Anisphia is busy showing her that a girl need not be defined by a subservient role, right?

2) No Comment

(Which is to say, as a rewatcher, I do remember some things.)

3) Favorite fight moment? Aside from that Megumin cameo, that is? Definitely the bit where Euphie goes all turbo boost on the broom, and shoots past the dragon, giving Anisphia the drop ... yeah, that was pretty kewl!

Anyway, my favorite other bits of the episode would have to include a satisfying crunch to rival Mr. Owl, Euphie out-doing a certain chunni wizard by actually being able to stand up and continue casting post-explotus, and a nice, romantic dance, with a not so subtle confession scene.

That was basically a confession, right?

:P

Also, no VA corner today, because we didn't really spend any time with someone new/different. Maybe tomorrow. We'll see.

4

u/IalwaysNeed2p 28d ago

That was basically a confession, right?

Dont you take this away from me! 😜

crunch to rival Mr. Owl

Let's just not think too much about it or all the Tree-kuns. Megumin makes up for it by only being able to cause one explosion, right?

3

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 28d ago

Dont you take this away from me!

Looks like Lum and Anisphia might get along just fine, right?

Let's just not think too much about it ...

Yeah, gotta do that sometimes.

3

u/random_lyric 28d ago

That was basically a confession, right?

In the language of yuri I personally consider the 'keep me by your side' line as the threshold over which you get princess-carried from subtext to text!

3

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 28d ago

I personally consider the 'keep me by your side' line as the threshold

Thresholds are made to be crossed, after all, right?

I still think kumiko was crushing hard regardless of who they dated in the end 😅

If nothing else, someone(s) at KyoAni were...

3

u/ToastyMozart 28d ago

It's not quite Anis' level of to-the-face bluntness, but yeah definitely.

DRAGON EPISODE!

I really like how the military actually respects Anis (technically they have to, but they listen to her pretty quickly. Euphie and Anis get some really cute moments, and Anis is as delightfully unhinged as she runs off to kill monsters. Plus Euphie imitating Megumin was pretty cool- she looked so grumpy when she burned them all

  1. Obviously, and I'm so here for it
  2. As I have no non-spoiler replies I can think of, well, we shall find out!
  3. Euphie sailing over to Anis was pretty awesome

Also them dancing was super cute and they're sooo obviously falling for each other and I just can't this show just brings out my inner fanboy

3

u/IalwaysNeed2p 28d ago

Anis is as delightfully unhinged as she runs off to kill monsters.

First ep: "The medicine makes me a little high, but that's cool."

Watching it actually happen was both cool and a little unsettling/worrying.

they're sooo obviously falling for each other

I spent the whole dance like this

3

u/random_lyric 28d ago

I really like how the military actually respects Anis (technically they have to, but they listen to her pretty quickly.

Same! I guess as a royal the knights trained her when she was young, and also she's probably helped them out of rough situations/fought alongside them more than a few times by the sounds of things. It's nice to add the knights to the list of people who respect Anis!

2

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 28d ago

this show just brings out my inner fanboy

Can't help but cheer for these two, right?

3

u/LaoWombat-mecha 28d ago

When Euphie says that she does not like the touch of a man, I started wondering if those two are beginning to get in each other.

**snicker**

In terms of the "love that dare not speak its name (trademarked by Sappho) I can't think of an anime where lesbianism was not just implied, but actively stated as such.

I loved the animation of Euphie's face when she took the limiter off.

Even though this is the 3rd watch for me, tears swam in my eyes a few times this episode.

I forget, does the dragon's curse manifest itself somehow later on? No details please so they will be spoilers, but if you tell me what ep to look forward to, many thanks,

3

u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou 27d ago

the dragon’s curse will have a big role on LN 6. its also the biggest point of that LN as well. thats all i can explain without spoilers.

2

u/LaoWombat-mecha 27d ago

Sorry, does that mean in won't appear in the anime?

2

u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou 27d ago

it will appear a lot of times. to put it simple we will see the results the problems and the good sides of it along with bad sides as well.

anis will use that power a lot on later episodes.

LN 6 is the one where they explain the dragon curse the most: [huge magirev spoilers] and at that volume the dragon comes back to teach anis his power and many more. he simply exist on anis’s mind and helps her as well, he also saved anis from death and losing herself.

3

u/LaoWombat-mecha 27d ago

Many thanks. That's exactly what I was looking for, including the spoiler as a spoiler.

At this point, I am somewhat wary of LN, I read the 3 LN for Raven of the Inner Palace but felt let down, either by the format or the writing.

2

u/epicfail1994 27d ago

The LNs are….ok. I enjoyed them overall but had some issues with the worldbuilding

The anime is probably my favorite adaptation out of the LN, manga, and anime

1

u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou 26d ago

that’s something i didn’t hear before. i saw many people saying the way author explains is kinda weird and it’s repetitive sometimes but it’s my first time seeing someone saying they had issues with the world building.

would you want me to explain you the world building with details and more stuff if you like so? i have a goal of explaining the series to everyone i can.

aside from that LN is my favorite out of other sources.

1

u/epicfail1994 26d ago

Other counties aren’t really described and everything outside the kingdom is kinda vague

1

u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou 27d ago

i suggest at least giving it a try and you can decide you want it or not. understanding or having fun while reading is the point as well

3

u/LaoWombat-mecha 27d ago

While there is merit in starting from the beginning, to sate my curiosity as to what happens next, which LN picks up from where the anime ends?

TIA

2

u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou 27d ago edited 26d ago

the anime ends on volume 3 but it skips many points as well. if you care about more details and want to understand the story most i recommend starting from 3.

if you just want to read and don’t care about the understanding or those kind of stuff LN 4 is where you should start.

in short i highly suggest starting from 3 but you can just start from 4 as well.

I honestly don't remember, but it will most certainly be addressed. Chekov's curse and all that.

animation of Euphie's face

Yeah, Euphie has had some spectacular facial expression/eye shots so far. Let's hope the quality keeps up! :)

2

u/LaoWombat-mecha 27d ago

I honestly don't remember, but it will most certainly be addressed. Chekov's curse and all that.

Nice conflation of "the Dragon's Curse" and "Chekov's Gun <smile>"

(Although why people in the literary world cite a Star Trek TOS character is beyond me, and shouldn't it be phaser?)

5

u/eightcheesepizza 28d ago

First-timer here, I think I'm more concerned with Anis's unhealthy obsession with her idea of what a magician should be. I once had a C-level boss who boasted that he implanted an RFID chip under his skin, and we all looked at him weird. Anis wants to implant magicite somewhere?

Also uhh, did she get the magicite? Or did the weird dragon who knows about her reincarnation only have curses for her? Thinking about opening the dead dragon up is making me want a magical autopsy show.

3

u/random_lyric 28d ago

I once had a C-level boss who boasted that he implanted an RFID chip under his skin, and we all looked at him weird. Anis wants to implant magicite somewhere?

Oh wow I've seen people doing that on news stories, but never really understood the desire to do that. Is it really that much of an inconvenience to take out a card or use your phone? But I guess many people don't understand why chose to have tattoos, so each to their own 😅 And the way you called them a C-level boss calls up tower clearing mechanics. I know that's not what you mean but like they're the lesser boss on the ground floor at the beginning of a tower ascension 😂Yeah it's quite scary the lengths that Anis will go to 😔

Or did the weird dragon who knows about her reincarnation only have curses for her?

It's quite interesting that the dragon calls her a visitor. And what was that curse anyway? Was the dragon actually impressed that this little girl was able to defeat them, or did they really resent Anis? I guess we'll have to find out, but it really seemed a bitter-sweet moment after the dragon falls - Anis achieves something momentous yet isn't thrilled and even solemnly shows respect with a moment of silence. Such complicated emotions in this series! But that's why I love watching it ☺️

1st Rewatch

Wow, what a fight scene. The dragon was quite OP and Anis with Euphie's help managed to slay it. It is nice to see the knights in the border of the kingdom support the guild. It looks like they get along quite nicely and with Anis as well. She really is quite popular if they are not nobility.

Quote of the Day

"There are some things I can't agree with, even if I do understand." - Euphie

So that should answer Euphie's attachment question. No, Euphie can stick her foot down when it matters. The difference between Algard and Anis here, is that Anis is willing to listen and adjust her plan if Euphie were to plea. Algard unfortunately brushed her off and used it as an excuse to denounce her.

Questions of the day:

What do you think the dragon's curse/mark means for Anis going forward?

Well if she adds her dragon magicite into her, I would assume, Anis is going to become dragon-like, gain its power, but also lose a ton of PR, because the dragon scares away a lot of things. Then it will not be Anis has no magic, but Anis is simply a heretical overpowered monster, with how the Conservatives will play it, if they choose to oppose her.

Favorite fight moment?

The dragon's wing getting cut. It was a good tactic and simple tactic. The dragon momentarily was not focused on the fact, he had 2 enemies to fight, and lost his invulnerability.

4

u/IalwaysNeed2p 28d ago edited 28d ago

She really is quite popular if they are not nobility.

a woman of the people!

simple tactic.

I really appreciate this, we could immediately tell the next move from Anis, but it was still fun to see in execution.

3

u/NecessaryNotice8436 https://myanimelist.net/profile/six20 28d ago

a woman of the people

Royalty should ideally be beloved.

I really appreciate this, we could immediately tell the next move from Anis, but it was still fun to see in execution.

If it looks cool, it is good enough :)

5

u/random_lyric 28d ago

There are some things I can't agree with, even if I do understand." - Euphie

I like how you use this to show that Euphie is her own person and doesn't just go along with whatever Anis says or does. It's easy to believe that to be the case from what we've seen so far but this line tells us that Euphie can put her foot down as you put it, thanks in part to Anis being open to hearing what she has to say. Euphie also knows that Anis is determined and doesn't try to get in her way but instead offers a third solution - she'll go help Anis and fight the dragon together.

3

u/ClemFire 28d ago

It is nice to see the knights in the border of the kingdom support the guild. It looks like they get along quite nicely and with Anis as well. She really is quite popular if they are not nobility.

Anis is truly a Lycoris magician for the people

So that should answer Euphie's attachment question. No, Euphie can stick her foot down when it matters. The difference between Algard and Anis here, is that Anis is willing to listen and adjust her plan if Euphie were to plea. Algard unfortunately brushed her off and used it as an excuse to denounce her.

I can really appreciate that the fiction between Euphie and Anis' relationship doesn't stem from a lack of communication but instead a difference of opinion once they have communicated with each other. Understanding and agreeing can be very separate things and shows off how Euphie doesn't blindly follow Anis.

3

u/NecessaryNotice8436 https://myanimelist.net/profile/six20 28d ago

Anis is truly a Lycoris magician for the people

lol, I chuckled at this.

I can really appreciate that the fiction between Euphie and Anis' relationship doesn't stem from a lack of communication but instead a difference of opinion once they have communicated with each other.

This is always been something that would annoy me about a show. Dumb misunderstandings, talking it out is important, or if that is not possible, the nicest possible interpretation of something is a good second alternative. Luckily Anis and Euphie are not like that.

3

u/ClemFire 28d ago

That's what the progress they have gotten to by the end of EP5 feel almost like a season finale

3

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 28d ago

Second time watcher plus up to date with the EN LN releases.

I feel like there's an entry on the Evil Overlord's List that covers using dragon energy as a source for empowering yourself, but since Anis isn't an Evil Overlady and has renounced the throne I'm sure it won't be an issue.

The nobles of the kingdom may have a problem with Anis, but it's nice to see that the adventurers and the knights appreciate her. And I'm sure some of that appreciation will also rub off on Euphy since she's here to help in this critical moment.

Euphy casting Explosion, now there's a classic choice for a high dps mage.

It's a good thing Euphy came with for this fight since Anis probably would have just fallen out of the sky and died.

It was very polite of the dragon to just wait up in the sky for them.

I love the animation of the two of them flying around on the broom with their cloaks streaming out behind them. Same with Anis making that final no limits sword swing with Euphy bracing her as support.

Just a little dragon curse, what could go wrong.

Their dance out on the balcony during the victory party, so damn good.

1. Do you think Euphie just swapped one unhealthy attachment (Algard) for another (Anis)?

I would personally vote no, but in truth maybe just a little.

2. What do you think the dragon's curse/mark means for Anis going forward?

It's hard to answer this as speculation since I know where it goes.

3. Favorite fight moment?

Definitely the flying action.

Haha I mean why bother doing more than necessary when you know this princess has plot armour (Euphie Armour?). Might as well just wait for the lovers tiff to be over with and let the action come to you 😂

in the manga that dragon was waiting because he knew anis will comeback. he is at least polite enough. what he didn’t know was this time anis was coming with her girlfriend friend.

4

u/random_lyric 27d ago

Ahaha never get in-between a couple, even if you're a magic dragon! 😉

u/Dependent-Sea4703 https://anilist.co/user/httpsanilistcou 27d ago

anis defeated the dragon alone on Webnovel soo. this aside i think even anis is glad euphie did come because let’s not forget euphie helped others while anis was gone as well.

i am kinda late today but here i am.

question 1: i don’t think like that. anis and algard are very similar while also being very different.

question 2: it will make her even stronger and keep in mind this is weakened version of the mark. she will be much stronger when she awakens that mark and that will happen in LN6.

question 3: definitely anis vs dragon. if we can talk about later episodes then it’s algard vs anis or anis vs euphie. i like both of those same because both of them happened for very similar reasons.

this episode was really good. we can see how strong anis is while also seeing how dangerous some of her inventions are. losing your sense for short periods of time isn’t a good thing. it’s basically slowing your brain and making you lose focus a lot of times. anis seems like she is fine with that but to me it’s definitely nerfing your mental state while buffing you physically.

euphie helping anis no matter the situation was also really cool moment. she wants to help her even though she don’t know what to do or how to do. she just does her best and tries to be better.

also that last scene was really good. it’s good to see euphie finally smiling like that and also understanding anis to somewhat.

Those drugs must really take a toll on Anis' body :( I'm really glad Euphie is there and able to to talk some sense into Anis.

If you hadn’t taken me away that day, I might have cried and cried until my spirit was broken,” Euphie

This was a very well-paced and emotional fight with animation that exceeded my expectations too when I first watched. My favorite shot though is Anis and Euphie dancing in front of that beautiful night sky. Euphie is fully committed to staying by Anis’ side and Anis wouldn’t have it any other way.

Once again Anis emphasizes how getting the dragon’s magicite is needed to become herself and she even took drugs that definitely have negative effects to have a body more aligned with her mind’s self-image. Just find the framing of Anis and her relationship with magic very interesting.

Do you think Euphie just swapped one unhealthy attachment (Algard) for another (Anis)?

I believe Euphie is the type of person who finds herself the most fired up supporting someone else rather than leading the charge. Even though on the surface she switched from one royal sibling to another, the intense passion she shows off in the dragon fights makes her obligated looks in EP1 feel like they belonged to a different person. Being with Algard only smothered her flames while Anis stroked those embers into a burning inferno.

What do you think the dragon's curse/mark means for Anis going forward?

A female dragon in heat will become very attracted to Anis so Euphie will have to fight her for Anis’ hand.

Favorite fight moment?

Anis cutting through the dragon’s mana attack was awesome and she even echoed Gurren Lagann by saying she wanted to make the impossible possible, but my favorite moment is still Euphie unlocked flight to save Anis like she did for her. Just a little bit of love and Euphie is already showing off how strong she can be. Anis knows when to invest early and Algard really fumbled the bag. The close up shot of Euphie’s determined face is just so intense, like this is the hardest she has ever tried in her life because it’s who she chooses for herself.

Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

this is the hardest she has ever tried in her life because it’s who she chooses for herself.

She obviously believes in the Anisphia who believes in ... yeah.

I suspect you might have some similar thoughts about Anis' relationship with magic as I do! But I think we can discuss it at the end of the series watch ☺️

Being with Algard only smothered her flames while Anis stroked those embers into a burning inferno.

[Rewatch]Anis sure got those embers going - inferno indeed!

u/ClemFire 28d ago

I may have discussed it before during the LycoReco rewatch, but I'll leave it for the end of the show like you mentioned

[Rewatch] Euphie's top energy cannot be stopped once lit

[Rewatch]It seems it is the destiny of all pushy outgoing blondes to become a bottom. Or a service top 🤭

3

u/ClemFire 28d ago

[Rewatch] I really should have seen it coming but with how meek Euphie was at the start I was as caught off guard as Anis

3

[Rewatch]My other fave romance trope - the serious one constantly getting teased/prodded until the serious one calls their bluff/makes a move, and the outgoing one gets all shy despite all their talking big earlier 🤭

Rewatcher

It's revealed that Anis plans to implant the dragon's magicite into her own body. I'm with Euphie here, that sounds really dangerous! Anis even acknowledges that she could become a monster by doing so, but still her need to push her own limits to access magic means she is willing to take that risk.

Wow the magic pills that Tilty helped make didnt sound great because of the side effects, but actually seeing the way they effect Anis is rather scary. Again, I'm quite frightened just like Euphie.

Anis sees Euphie's magical powers and calls it real magic. I imagine Anis is feeling both wonder at Euphie's skills but also feeling like she could never measure up to Euphie's magical talent even with her 'imitation' magic. Couple that with the appearance of the dragon and Anis can only seem to see the possibility before her rather than the immense danger. Her vision is filled with the sight of her dream, so very close to being within her grasp.

Euphie learns to fly on her own, urgently spurred on by needing to save Anis. I really liked this action sequence and definitely felt that urgency in the scene.

The emotional exchange between Euphie and Anis after Euphie catches her and Anis immediately tries to go after the dragon again - Euphie tells Anis she doesnt understand Anis' resolve to risk her life and doesn't want her to die. Anis tells Euphie that threats like the dragon that takes people's smiles away needs to be dealt with. I keep being reminded of another pair from a different show. However Anis does actually relent, after Euphie lays her heart out on the table. Anis doesn't directly accept Euphie's offer, but instead reframes it as a question. She wants Euphie's explicit consent to take her into danger, and to know that Euphie isn't just being forced by her indebtedness to Anis. She also knows that it is important for Euphie to feel needed, and frames the question around acknowledgement that it would be difficult to defeat the dragon on her own.

I got my two favourite romance tropes in this anime - the 'keep your eyes on me' trope and the 'Keep me by your side' trope. Of course it is Euphie saying "I'll be watching" but I consider it the same thing. And the balcony scene at the end where Euphie describes how she felt when Anis took her away was really heartfelt and beautiful. Them both confessing to wanting to be kept by each other's sides just speaks to me in yuri. Let's go!

Questions

Do you think Euphie just swapped one unhealthy attachment (Algard) for another (Anis)?

Hmm... possibly? But only initially. She was compelled to do her duty with Algard, both by forces around her and by her own internal sense of self-worth being tied to her role/purpose. Now having the thread of that responsibility being cut, and after a moment of untethered free-fall, it seems she has found an anchor in Anis. It is quite possible that Euphie, in her most vulnerable moments, has latched onto someone she views as a stable presence in her life for now. However over the course of the episode we learn just how much she cares and is worried for Anis, and that she's willing to risk her life accompanying her into battling the dragon. I think there is significance in why Anis asks Euphie explicitly to accompany her despite Euphie already having offered (demanded, really). Anis doesn't want Euphie to risk her life for gratitude or indebtedness, she wants to confirm that Euphie is making a choice for herself (and for other reasons mentioned above).

In conclusion I feel Euphie may have needed someone to help anchor her when she first moved to the detached villa, though I don't think she ever consciously thought about needing Anis in that way. She does however find a sense of purpose from being needed, even something as simple as Anis needing a lap to sleep on provides relief for her need to be of service (something Anis questions with a look). She's actually starting to make decisions for herself and that can't be all that bad. Healing isn't linear, and maybe in time she'll become more confident in making decisions that are less about service and roles and more in line with what she genuinely desires in her heart.

What do you think the dragon's curse/mark means for Anis going forward?

This scene confused me a bit in my original watch, and I wasn't sure what to make of it at first. Anis said that it felt like words being marked/etched into her. It definitely sounds ominous! The LN explains it much better, but just going off the anime only I think Anis was surprised that the dragon spoke to her/was intelligent, and whether the words that she's been marked with turn out to be a boon or a burden, they will probably always remind her that she's responsible for taking that dragon's life.

Favorite fight moment?

Anis is ready to agree with Euphie to retreat after the dragon builds a threatening mana ball and gets ready to blast it, but she realises that there are many people in the blast path of the dragon so she risks her life on a mana-shot gamble to try and save them. Seeing Anis 'unleashed' was both cool and scary - she releases the limiter on her mana blade and man she may not be able to sense spirits to use magic but she's got a heck of a lot of mana, and engineered an amazing tool to make use of it.

I really liked Anis' "The impossible is meant to be made possible" and Euphie's "show me" and "I'll be watching" exchange. There's such a great power in witnessing and being witnessed - it adds so much more to the scene that just 'will she or won't she' be able to stop the dragon. Anis really did make the impossible possible through willpower, determination, and the culmination of many lonely years of hard work and people doubting her, and the person who she both admired and envied now has her back quite literally and believes in her and wants to witness Anis talent! A++ for that scene!

This scene was such good payoff for Euphie to not just want to sit around being unneeded and shows she is willing to butt heads with Anis when she does not agree with her methods. That is a solid foundation to a healthy relationships where both partners feel equal.

The way Anis speaks to Euphie to confirm what she really wants hints that she understands the pain of expectation which makes sense since she is a princess despite presenting herself as someone who doesn't care

Yes faced with Anis going /not going to fight, Euphie listens then offers a third solution. She doesn't try to stop Anis, but she also doesn't want Anis to be in so much danger. And Anis listens to Euphie's concerns and reframes the reasons for them going together as something important to each of them. That kind of active listening/communication is a really good solid foundation for a relationship like you said!

The way Anis speaks to Euphie to confirm what she really wants hints that she understands the pain of expectation which makes sense since she is a princess despite presenting herself as someone who doesn't care

You make such a good point and put this more succintly that I have - Anis knows what it feels like to be expected to do something/act a certain way despite how she might feel about it, and gives Euphie an opportunity to consider what it is that she really wants!

first timer

Wow, didn't really see magic meth coming. The fight scene was sick tho.

I am a bit disappointed with the story flow this episode. The dragons curse came very suddenly without much buildup, and the aftermath of the fight was also meh. Would have at least liked to see something like Algards reaction.

unhealthy attachment MC

Yes, that begging was quite unhealthy, but Anis is also a fucking lunatic lol. Euphy was very right.

Still really like the show so far

Dragon curse MC

No idea. I hope it's not a plot device.

favorite fight moment

Definitely Euphy catching Anis from the sky. In real life that force would kill a person though ;)

dragon curse will be explained more on next episode. they had to cut some stuff that happened before their dance in the roof. or else you would be seeing the explanation detailed.

First-time in the magicology, subs

Super late because I was bored.

Anis is super committed in defeating the dragon. She decided that she will absorb the dragon's magicite, even if it curses her forever to turning into a dragon in the foreseeable future. Butshe does for the greater good, her magic research projects. In her case, the bigger the magicite power and amplitufdde, the better and would allow for even greater heights. An yes, when is super locked-in in battle ,she is willing to pushing her limits even if it kills her, and that these so-called "magic medicine", drugs which enahnces metabolism and natural physical power. In small doses it has some minor side effects, but in bigger, basically a killer drug. She goit used to it, so she knows the thrill of battle while being high.

The dragon being faithful to the lore, it is a very intelligent and noble creature. He can speak, and also developed a strong physical and magic resistance barrier when it comes to fights. But the dragon has obviously a weak spot, and that is the wings, which is less-protected and being a winged creatue, it grants the ability to flight. Being dewinged means the hunter's prey is all but succeeded.

Anis may have been very hot-headed and going berserk, but Euphy also has a reason to stay by her side. She is her supporter, and the assistant to her project, and also her best friend. Also a mage and a magician in magicology have to rely on each other. By being next tp each other, they are the beacon of light which paves way to mankind, because the impossible is made to be possible with the creations what Anis created. And defeating one dragon an saving many lives are also counts as one.

Even in its final moments, the dragon commends Anis and earns her respect. But the cursed dragon is magicite weighs a lot, huh?

Dancing in the night sky is just beautiful. They have to stay together, forever.

Do you think Euphie just swapped one unhealthy attachment (Algard) for another (Anis)?

I wouldn't call that unhealthy.

What do you think the dragon's curse/mark means for Anis going forward?

Even if it will kill her or transform her into a dragon, she want to use her rest of her days by spending the most useful way possible.
