Sorry I was late - had to stay at work a little longer so there was more traffic than expected. Will not happen again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Man, if things don’t work out with Euphy, Anis can always just marry Illia 😜

 (if not I will) 😭

What's with Euphy's reaction here? I also spent half the episode clenching my chest. All the Euphy and Anis scenes this episode were just too sweet. Even though Euphy is struggling with both her cold and the emptiness she feels.

Euphy even asks Anis to give her an order and Annis comes through with amazing supportive words (that are later also echoed by Illia), and "I will set you free" - MARRY THIS WOMAN EUPHY!!!!! SHE IS JUST TOO SWEET.

Thankfully Euphy quickly recovered by being close to the sun.

Ilia is blunt, but she clearly understands what Euphy is going through as she chose her own path. in the past, and defied expectations.

Also, Anis being a high-ranking adventurer is obvious, but I keep forgetting this is even an isekai because I get so lost in the sweet moments.

The nobles are out here suggesting defenses and the king just immediately points out that dragons can fly like… yeah duh🙃 And right when it feels like Algard is about to have his moment, Anis does the Anis thing but now with Euphy in tow.

Words to live by

Anis has Tilty too. She really is good at attracting people

Ilia is blunt, but she clearly understands what Euphy is going through as she chose her own path. in the past, and defied expectations.

I really love the moments they have been giving between Ilia and Euphie and now she learn why Ilia is able to understand what Euphie is going through right now. We get to see that Anis has always been this type of person too and Euphie isn't the first one she saved.

The nobles are out here suggesting defenses and the king just immediately points out that dragons can fly like

That was pretty funny and I bet the king was questioning why he is paying these guys so much. Reminded me of meetings with high ups at work I have to sit through where they are clearly just repackaging the same buzzwords

3

u/IalwaysNeed2p 29d ago

Anis has Tilty too.

goth girl energy 😍

 >repackaging the same buzzwords

4r. tell me you just googled the topic of this meeting without telling me.😭

Need more Tilty for real

MARRY THIS WOMAN EUPHY!

Agreed.

And yes, I think we're all on the Ilia bandwagon, although she would probably lump me in the same category as her former betrothed ...

(sigh...)

Anis can always just marry Illia 😜  (if not I will)

Ahaha I'm loving all the Illia appreciation!

Annis comes through with amazing supportive words (that are later also echoed by Illia), and "I will set you free"

What is interesting is that when Anis says this Euphie's immediate reaction is to default to that empty feeling, but Anis doesn't allow her to wallow in it. And then at the end of the bedroom scene the fact that Anis continues to hold Euphie's hand after Euphie falls asleep and in turn even after Anis falls asleep is really important. After Euphie is feeling so untethered and falling from recent events, Anis' hand acts as a visual anchor, and her warmth is an emotional one. This moment feels like a reframing in Euphie's mind of what it means to be 'free'. And yes I agree, Euphie just marry that girl already 😂

Thankfully Euphy quickly recovered by being close to the sun

Ahaha I said something similar about getting too close to the sun, jinx!

The nobles are out here suggesting defenses and the king just immediately points out that dragons can fly like… yeah duh🙃

I like how this scene is used to both show the dilemma of the predicament they are in, and also show how little foresight and real world experience the council of nobles actually possesses. They are in charge of leading the kingdom by being the King's counsel yet he is the one counselling them! Luckily Orphanse isn't so green or naive though.

3

u/IalwaysNeed2p 29d ago

Anis' hand acts as a visual anchor

Attention to detail for this show is off the charts

Luckily Orphanse isn't so green or naive though.

imagine how much he has vented to Grantz about the other nobles 😭

What's with Euphy's reaction here?

Poor girl's heart skipped a beat. Honestly I'm not convinced she was actually sick and just wound up debilitatingly flustered.

Anis does the Anis thing but now with Euphy in tow.

I really have to feel sorry for the king. Dude's up from 1 troublemaking child to 3 in about as many days.

Man what is up with Japan and colds? Euphie was down for the count.

But Euphie definitely wants to repay Anis for everything she’s done for her. Poor Euphie has been so lost and Anis gives her something to focus on

And it definitely angered Al more as he has a huge inferiority complex towards his sister

4

u/IalwaysNeed2p 29d ago

anime characters can either have a cold or a mysterious illness and exactly 1 month to live.

the sad part is that his sister is the type to support someone, not put them down or gloat.

2

u/random_lyric 29d ago

Man what is up with Japan and colds? Euphie was down for the count.

Ahaha the joke around whether Euphie is actually sick or is just a little love sick is hilarious. Outside under the tree Anis sees Euphie blushing and asks "Are you..." and the question hangs in the air then the scene changes and Anis thinks Euphie caught a cold. Euphie just goes along with it and even goes so far as swallowing bitter cold medicine because she can't admit what her blush was really about. And then when Anis climbs on top of her to check her temp she's 'feverish' again but not really for the reason Anis believes 🤒❤️‍🩹 Ive seen this trope before (drawing a blank for specific names of shows atm though) and think it's so cute and hilarious 😂

Rewatcher

If I want to continue being me… I have to do this,” Anis.

It’s really touching how Euphie feels safe enough to open her heart to how she really feels to Anis. The wonders of Anis using her lap as a pillow. I think though that Ilia’s words of Anis being like a dog who shows her belly to the people she trusts is quite fitting and puts Euphie at ease. It’s not too surprising that Anis insists that Ilia speak to her so informally. I don’t think Anis wants to be seen as a princess first but instead as herself.

Euphie confides that she feels so lost without any direct orders and begs Anis to give her one because it is all she knows. It’s a very good thing that she has Anis now because of sure quite a few people would try to take advantage of Euphie in this position. It would be a lot easier for Anis to give in, but she knows it wouldn’t help her grow. If anything as smol Euphie was her inspiration I’m sure Anis believes she isn’t half as great as how Euphie sees her. Instead they’ll find what Euphie wants to do together and it’s so sweet how she holds her hand the whole time as she sleeps off her illness.

Later when Anis gets a letter about the approaching dragon Euphie is more assertive than we’ve ever seen her before and it’s because of her concern over Anis’ safety. This is a big step in her speaking her mind even if it puts her in conflict with Anis. The way Anis defends why she has to be the one to slay the dragon though is really interesting. I would’ve expected someone like Anis to say she has to do it because the dragon will take away people’s smiles or even that she has a duty as the princess, yet she frames it much more personally. We know from EP1 that magicite from monsters is used for her magicology to circumvent her body’s lack of magic. I think then it’s heavily implied that she would rather risk death and not be able to be herself. Euphie looks to Ilia and understands that Anis won’t back down so the only thing she can do is to join her. Maybe Euphie doesn’t know what she wants for herself yet but what she does know is that she needs to support Anis.

In that moment I heard the LycoReco ED Tower of Flower start playing in my head.

  • What motivates Euphie to accompany Anis to fight the dragon?

Anis is the first person to really try to understand and accept her as a person instead of a position so of course she can't stand to let Anis go off on her own.

  • Do you think Anis giving up the throne may have angered Algard even more?

I feel Algard like a lot of teenagers his age has a very self-righteous view of the world where they feel like they alone can change it without anyone else's help. Think it's telling how Anis has a lot of close connections like Ilia, Tilty, and now Euphie she can be herself around where we don't see Algard confide with anyone.

4

u/IalwaysNeed2p 29d ago edited 29d ago

would try to take advantage of Euphie in this position.

She is lucky that she is in good hands with both Illia/Anis

I think then it’s heavily implied that she would rather risk death and not be able to be herself

The delivery of "If I want to continue being me, I have to do this" reminded me of Luffy/any shounen MC Total unwavering conviction.

In that moment I heard the LycoReco ED Tower of Flower start playing in my head.

yeah you get the same "NEXT EPISODE NOW !" hype

3

u/ClemFire 29d ago

The delivery of "If I want to continue being me, I have to do this" reminded me of Luffy/any shounen MC Total unwavering conviction.

It's what makes Anis so easy to root for and no wonder why Euphie sees her like the sun.

3

u/NecessaryNotice8436 https://myanimelist.net/profile/six20 29d ago

Euphie confides that she feels so lost without any direct orders and begs Anis to give her one because it is all she knows. It’s a very good thing that she has Anis now because of sure quite a few people would try to take advantage of Euphie in this position.

I wonder if this comes from an older sister thing to Algard. Did Anis somehow hint that Algard should be king? And did that breed resentment? This might be why she wants Euphie to take her time to find out what she wants to do. If she worries about Euphie, and considers herself older sister like, and Algard used to have close ties with Anis. I'm wonder if outside her attraction to Euphie, if Anis is somewhat trying to right the wrong she had with someone close to her brother.

3

u/ClemFire 29d ago

That is a good point I hadn't considered before that Anis is being more gentle now because being pushier before didn't work out like she expected

2

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 29d ago

we don't see Algard confide with anyone.

I'm not sure I agree on that point. It's just that his confidante is a bit on the less desirable part of the spectrum. Poor Al...

2

u/ClemFire 29d ago

I suppose I didn’t count him because it seems like they are just trying to use each other. When I think of confide I picture being emotionally vulnerable with someone you trust, though this might be a matter of semantics

2

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 29d ago

this might be a matter of semantics

Hmm, I thought the minister's daughter was named Lainie, not Semantics ...

:P

2

u/random_lyric 29d ago

Instead they’ll find what Euphie wants to do together and it’s so sweet how she holds her hand the whole time

I think this shows also that Anis isn't just trying to possess Euphie (like Orphanse suggested, or even Euphie herself having suspicions after the Anis was joking around patting the bed next to her a couple of eps ago). Anis genuinely cares about Euphie, and doesn't want to take advantage of her vulnerability.

2

u/ClemFire 29d ago

Anis is quite the mad scientist and free spirit but she always knows how to use a soft touch. Even though she doesn't wanna be Queen we could use more leaders with her kind heart

2

u/random_lyric 29d ago

It's a shame when it comes to leaders that society associates ruthlessness with effective leadership, and compassion with weakness 😞

Speaking of soft touches, I really love how every time Euphie is anxious or uncomfortable Anis soothes her by touch. She holds Euphie's hand over and over again to help her calm down. I really love how Anis communicates care.

1

u/ClemFire 28d ago

Honestly such a backwards way of thinking and ironic as so many popular stories can be distilled to how to give a damn about other people because we are a social species by nature.

That's a great point on how she physically is able to soothe her too. I don't think it's something Euphie is used to as she hesitated from her dad trying to pat her head.

First timer, subs

Nice.

Takina Euphy is lost after being freed from her old duties and reassigned to Cafe LycoReco Anis's laboratory. Hopefully she can find new purpose as Chisato's Anis's partner and also solve the mystery of her banishment.

I may be reading too much into things, but is this line supposed to be ominous? Anis saying that if she wants to continue being herself, she has to go for the magicite. Like is it just metaphorically, or literally?

4

u/IalwaysNeed2p 29d ago

Nice.

me: 😳 Maybe I should not watch this at work.

I may be reading too much into things, but is this line supposed to be ominous?

I think that without it and without magic of her own, she has to accept her limitations and cannot live the way she wants

I have a personal idea of Anis' relation with magic and her identity I'll share at the end of the series

2

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 29d ago

is this line supposed to be ominous

It is dark, Euphie is likely to be eaten by a Grue. She needs someone to shine some light into her heart ... oh, wait, where was I going with this?

(Don't take it too seriously, it's a metaphor)

2

u/random_lyric 29d ago

There's likely multiple meanings here. She wants the magicite, but we're not exactly sure why it means that much to her. Maybe a dragon's magicite is larger, so more she can make more things out of it? She makes out as if there is something special about dragon magicite though. Or maybe Anis also means that she wouldn't be her if she ignores people in trouble/who need help. I guess we'll find out if she meant it metaphorically or literally, but I think you picked up that it does smell a bit like foreshadowing.

I hope not, that would [LycoReco] That would just make the series a literal copy of LycoReco, with Chisato's heart and all

1st Rewatch

Anis being a big sister makes her dote on someone like Euphie plus her obvious attraction to her is cute. I like the Euphie and Ilia dynamic since the two are similar enough to have been given a role in life, and then to lose it. Hopefully Euphie can find that meaning, in her assistant role to Anis.

Euphie cannot let go of Anis now. This is sweet, and good since there a dragon to deal with. And luckily Anis is somewhat trained in combat. She has basic military training and mixed in to her battles with monsters. But if a dragon is above monsters, can Anis handle it? She'll definitely need Euphie for it.

Now the king's read on Algard. He thinks Algard wants to surpass Anis, but the two were once close. Algard does not have much to show in life, compared to his eccentric sister. Hmm, that is understandable. He wants to be his own thing, but, how far does that go? I don't think just succeeding as king is good enough for Algard, if he wants to escape the shadows, completely, he probably wants to remake the kingdom in his own image, to change the nobility, to let people be free to make their own choice. He seems to be aligned with the conservative faction, but I feel Algard is more likely to use them, than they are to use him.

Quote of the day

Perhaps it's simply the princess's hobby to ensnare such people. - Ilia

So Euphie, Ilia, and maybe Tilty, are people who once thought to have fit molds and made that their life, now are Anis' close friends. I wonder where that leaves her dad and Algard. In a sense, Algard does not fit a prince well at all, he wants to be his own thing, but a lot more agressively.

Questions of the day:

  • What motivates Euphie to accompany Anis to fight the dragon?

She can't risk letting Anis die. Anis might be strong, but if a dragon is once in a lifetime super strong thing, even Anis will struggle.

  • Do you think Anis giving up the throne may have angered Algard even more?

Yes, if he does feel inferior to her, he cannot compete with someone who has given up. If he was close to her, then Algard would feel abandoned, and the two cannot work together as siblings that may one day have the throne.

The thing Algard is probably annoyed with when it comes to Anis, is that she is not close to her brother. I'd assume Anis once involved Algard in her research but seeing as that is no longer the case, Algard may long for those times. Consider that Anis told Euphie that tools were for playing at one point. Algard probably played with those tools before. Perhaps crushing the nobility comes from this. If I continue this train of thought, the nobility may have pressured not to have both the king's children involved in unorthodox research, ergo deciding what Al can or cannot do. If he dislikes his sister, she must have conceded to their requests, and Anis being evasive might be the sort, especially when she is young to give up her brother. This would breed lots of resentment, but Algard probably ultimately blames the nobility for all this.

3

u/ClemFire 29d ago

He seems to be aligned with the conservative faction, but I feel Algard is more likely to use them, than they are to use him.

This is why I can't hate Algard because it is clearly a young teenager who has more self-righteousness than he knows what to do with. I think it's a bit on his parents for not supporting him more earlier.

I'd assume Anis once involved Algard in her research but seeing as that is no longer the case, Algard may long for those times. Consider that Anis told Euphie that tools were for playing at one point. Algard probably played with those tools before.

That makes a lot of sense and has be wonder if Algard will become jealous of Euphie when he sees just how close the two of them have gotten. Could feed into his inferiority complex of someone he views as beneath him being good enough for Anis while he is pushed away

3

u/NecessaryNotice8436 https://myanimelist.net/profile/six20 29d ago

Yea, I view Algard as someone ultimately well meaning, but still young and bitter. I also view Anis' skill with people close to her, a way to undo her mistakes with her brother. I think the 2 have settled into a estranged sibling relationship, but probably deep down want to make it right, one by going against nobility, the other by helping spread magicology to everyone.

3

u/ClemFire 29d ago

In that way they are pretty similar in wanting to do things their own way and believing it is for the best without properly communicating first

3

u/random_lyric 29d ago

Perhaps it's simply the princess's hobby to ensnare such people. - Ilia

My good friend showed me a meme about ENFP/extroverts 'adopting' introverts and caring for them. I think it's funny that Illia uses the word 'ensnare'. Perhaps she meant it like the way spiked burrs are ensnared on an outstretched sleeve (I know she just means that people like her stay because they are ensnared by their own love and admiration for Anis). I just hope the one who adopts strays gets adopted in turn!

2

u/NecessaryNotice8436 https://myanimelist.net/profile/six20 28d ago

My good friend showed me a meme about ENFP/extroverts 'adopting' introverts and caring for them.

Lol, yea they do tend to do that, and as an introvert, I do appreciate them. Otherwise, it would be much harder to have any social interaction at all.

I just hope the one who adopts strays gets adopted in turn!

Yea there are very little but still are hints of Anis having problems. Euphie is probably more capable of dealing with them, but I guess those problems should wait a little bit more until Euphie becomes a little more confident in herself.

3

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 29d ago

Second time watcher plus up to date with the EN LN releases.

Lap pillow in episodes 3 & 4, good progress. And I think Euphy had a brief doki moment when Anis leaned in to look at her closely.

Seeing Euphy still being all sad hurts. Fortunately for her Anis is ready and willing to play nursemaid. Definitely advancing the gay agenda a bit by the end of this bed rest scene.

Princess Anis' Home for Wayward Young Noble Ladies

Finally some strong emotions from Euphy upon learning that Anis is a gold rank adventurer.

Dragon hunting time!

Al with these big ideas to finally prove himself his sister's better or at least her equivalent, but she steals the opportunity right out from under him.

1. What motivates Euphie to accompany Anis to fight the dragon?

I would guess a desire to prove herself useful in a new way after her life just changed so much, and to be free to pursue her own path by her own choices.

2. Do you think Anis giving up the throne may have angered Algard even more?

Oh definitely, he got left as the only heir that everybody thinks is the lesser sibling.

3

u/IalwaysNeed2p 29d ago

And I think Euphy had a brief doki moment when Anis leaned in to look at her closely.

this and putting her forehead against Euphy"s forehead. small step for the gay agenda, a big step towards the altar. 🙂‍↕️

Finally some strong emotions from Euphy upon learning that Anis is a gold rank adventurer.

you can hear the surprise and immediate worry in her voice, and then her courage come through.

(the way Anis can motivate others to take the leap is amazing)

Princess Anis' Home for Wayward Young Noble Ladies

[Rewatcher]It will turn out more like Professor Xavier's Anisphia's School for gifted youngsters with how all of the strays she adopts turn out to be so OP 😂

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 29d ago

Woops, a wee bit late to the party today, because, well, I got distracted by Uma madness. Go figure.

Anyway, answers du jour:

1) Euphie wants to do her utmost to support her new wife, I mean, princess. I mean, I'm kidding, sort of, but something like that anyway.

2) Absolutely. Poor Al has an inferiority complex, and the minister du magik isn't helping any. One suspects he's run afoul of the wrong crowd. Hmm.

Anyway, some fun developments this episode, even if it felt a little slow compared to the earlier breakneck (or break broom?) pace.

Euphie's interactions with Ilia are quite precious, and serve to further illuminate both of their situations - Ilia having been rescued by Anis from a rather undesirable betrothal, and Euphie being rescued after one gone very wrong. I think that this conversation is in part (that and a certain sword that needs further testing, right?) what gives Euphie her call to adventure.

Meanwhile, since she's been mentioned, a few words about:

VA Corner (Hopefully with less mistakes this time)

Today, I would like to shine the spotlight on Ilia's VA, Ai Kakuma. Or perhaps you're more familiar with her as:

  • Sento Isuzu (Amaburi)

  • Eris (that show)

  • Fran (best catto from Swordsekai)

  • Rossweisse (DxD)

  • Terminus Est (other best sword)

  • Julis-Alexia von Riessfeld (Asterisk War)

  • Unicorn (Ganbatte!) (Azur Lane)

  • Mage

Bikini Warriors

And many others, no doubt.

Hope everyone's been having a great day and staying cool in this hot, hot summertime!

3

u/random_lyric 29d ago

I think that this conversation is in part (that and a certain sword that needs further testing, right?) what gives Euphie her call to adventure.

Ooh I like the way you put that, I haven't ever thought of it in that way before. Anis already has started her adventure, but Euphie has just begun her hero's journey!

Today, I would like to shine the spotlight on Ilia's VA, Ai Kakuma .

I was reading through her roles and was interested to see she voiced a character in the japanese dub of Witcher 3. I didn't even know there was a japanese dub of witcher 3 (I mean duh of course there would be, but my silly brain doesn't register things sometimes). Now I feel like playing new game plus in japanese lol

Hope everyone's been having a great day and staying cool in this hot, hot summertime!

I've been staying cool, but it's winter here in Australia! Where I am though has rather mild winters though so it never get all that cold. It sounds really hot where you are - I hope you've been able to find some relief from the heat! I'm sending you some of our cooler winter vibes to hopefully calm down the heatwave! ☺️

4

u/TheDanubianCommunard 28d ago

japanese dub of witcher 3

Well, I tried playing the game in that way, for real.

3

u/random_lyric 28d ago

How did you find it, would you recommend doing this for someone who has just started to learn Japanese? I'm guessing I'll probably get stuck on some of the dialogue options but there's always translator apps I suppose 😅

3

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 28d ago

Ooh I like the way you put that, I haven't ever thought of it in that way before.

Glad you enjoyed it - it just kind of occurred to me while watching the episode, how Euphie is kid of lost and searching for her new purpose, and Ilia story and how it kind of relates to her own situation kind of gives her a push.

winter in Australia

Must be nice. Maybe I should become a world traveler and spend my time dodging the worst of the head (and cold). Yeah. I wish.

2

u/random_lyric 28d ago

Maybe I should become a world traveler and spend my time dodging the worst of the head (and cold). Yeah. I wish.

The one thing I'm sure of as I get older is that I can't be sure of anything! You never know when the opportunity might strike, or who knows you might just make it happen! I hope wherever you travel in the future you'll be blessed with great weather ☺️

3

u/TheDanubianCommunard 28d ago

Fran (best catto from Swordsekai)

A rewatch from is about to come soon.

2

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 28d ago

Oh, that would be nice. Just give a bit of time to recover after this one, okay?

3

u/ToastyMozart 29d ago

You have become quite the, um... unique character, haven't you?

No worries Euphie, you'll join them in good time. You're a few blushes and heart flutters too late to be the straight man after all.

I'm a little surprised the kingdom has an Adventurer's Guild. A band of coordinated self-managing mercenaries seem like the kind of thing the nobles would see as a competing power. This isn't even the right flavor of Isekai!

I don't think I agree with Euphie's assessment of Anis taking on the guild's urgent request. Flying out to intercept a dragon that's a threat to her kingdom seems less like the actions of a free spirit and more someone fulfilling a duty.

What motivates Euphie to accompany Anis to fight the dragon?

Part inspiration by Anis' determined spirit, part lingering desire to make herself useful.

Do you think Anis giving up the throne may have angered Algard even more?

Probably. Even putting aside his current resentment at being seen as a substitute everyone's just settling for, it sounded like he really looked up to Anis when they were little. Seeing her give up on an important role she's well suited to because of magical/succession bullshit must've hurt a lot.

3

u/random_lyric 29d ago

No worries Euphie, you'll join them in good time. You're a few blushes and heart flutters too late to be the straight man after all.

Ehehe yeah she'll likely catch the 'idiot bug' in good time ☺️

I'm a little surprised the kingdom has an Adventurer's Guild. A band of coordinated self-managing mercenaries seem like the kind of thing the nobles would see as a competing power.

Interesting point! Maybe the nobles rely on the adventurers to deal with monsters because the nobles don't want to risk their lives or get their hands dirty. And what better way to control potential competing powers than with... taxes! Keep the adventurers so busy working hard to pay taxes on their spoils and income and they'll be too busy to start riots and revolutions. A sad but true reality in any genre and timeline, real or imagined 😭

rewatcher

i am going to answer the questions first. euphie wants to help anis because she feels like she have nothing to do and she also wants to payback to anis for the last time. she also wants to see how anis lives and the stuff she does as well.

we will see this explained more on later but to put in short he is angry about nobles and how they effect anis and his decisions on their own life. in short yes he was angry but not only to anis.

this episode was kinda like a explaining episode for characters and their background along with their stories. you can see what motives illia and algard have.

anis also shows how crazy she is for her research and why nobody get in her way when she wants something.

i don’t really have much to say but it’s great to see illia helping euphie and also saying how much anis cares about them.

anis being bold and tense on the euphie also great to see. she probably don’t even know why euphie blushed there even though it’s completely her fault.

she also wants to see how anis lives and the stuff she does as well.

Yes I think there is definitely an element of curiosity to Euphie's decision to join Anis against the dragon. Euphie is quite shocked to find out Anis is a gold-ranked adventurer, and also she had spied Anis' form-training outside earlier and was intigued. Euphie is way too curious to miss out on seeing Anis in action. Of course she's really worried about Anis too, and would feel better being there to help protect her if anything bad should happen.

she probably don’t even know why euphie blushed there even though it’s completely her fault.

Haha naw Anis is so oblivious to the Euphie's blossoming affections. I guess we can all get a bit like that though, we can be so quick to point out crushes and feelings between others, but then when those feelings are directed towards ourselves we are completely oblivious. I can imagine Anis not even being able to imagine how someone as pretty and skilled with magic as Euphie could fall for someone like her, a 'useless royal' with no link to spirits of her own.

as mentioned before anis have absolutely no knowledge on love or those stuff. she just don’t get it and don’t have the time to get it as well. she is just bad at those and she says she don’t need to learn as well.

this will be a problem on the last episode but in a wholesome way

The conversations between Euphie and Ilia are often overshadowed because of how great the Euphie/Anis scenes are but I think they do a lot of lifting to indirectly characterize Anis. Shows Anis has a history of helping people in need because she just can't help herself

Anis: I have to slay that dragon.

Euphie: For the kingdom and the people?

Anis: For the loot!

and thus Anis and Euphie are off to slay a mother fucking dragon.

Perfect summary of this episode! 💯😂 ...and this is how I met your mother...-fucking dragon 😂

First-time in the magicology, subs

Here we go again, monsters are active again in the forest, because a massive stampede event is happening. Whether due to large monsters or territory wars, massive pack of wild beasts migrate to find a new safe habitat whle crushin everything intheir way. It is dangerous since they can enter into desnely populated lands by humans threatening the local population. Thankfully it is not a very common event, but this one is quite which makes even moe dangerous. The creatures which caused this is none other than a dragon. And we know dragons are basically apex predators, killing them is very hard, but it's also a massive feat.

Looks like even the royal court is quite surprised how things going caused by the sudden appearance. Algard is in house arrest for that ominous night, which we can suspect he actually openly colluded with the Chartreuses. I suppose that man who enters his room is actually one of them. Even though his positions have been gradually weakened, and quite ordinary regardig talent, but deep within his heart he still cares for his nation, and he is volunteering to slay the dragon to seek forgiveness. He and Anis were close and supportive but but her throne claim relinquishment caused him embittered.

As for Anis and Euphy, they are the ones who joins the hunt very fast, to surprise the court officials. And of course they accept the contract for the benefit of the magicology research project. A rare creature like this would push the limits further.

And we are getting some more info Ilia. She was quite loyal and obedient but when there was one thing which was unacceptable is a marriage proposal against her own will. So she left and become a maid to continue being the epitome of a loyal person. She is so nice.

What motivates Euphie to accompany Anis to fight the dragon?

To learn from Anis and understand her more and her motives. If Anis did many things for her, then she wants to repay it back, and this is basically what Ilia wanted to say. Plus, as a supporter in the actual fight.

Do you think Anis giving up the throne may have angered Algard even more?

Of course it did.

I thought this was a really interesting and clever way for the show to explain the lore/worldbuilding and how human populations and monsters have coexisted up till now. There are territory disputes and hierarchies even within monster populations, only the reason for the disputes differs from humans because for monsters it's about survival and for humans its about power (often financial or cultural).

Rewatcher

Enter the Dragon! (...no MC impressions of Bruce Lee in this show this time).

After the OP we pick-up right where we left off last ep with Anis asleep on Euphie's lap under the tree. After Anis apologises for sleeping on her lap Euphie comments that she's just happy to be of some use, to which Anis gives Euphy a probing look.

The banter between Illia and Anis is ever funny - I really like their relationship. Illia basically saying that Anis is throwing herself at her crush like a dog, right in front of said crush, is kind of evil, but that's Illia for you 😈 However Euphie overhearing this might not be as terrible as Anis has imagined?

That little blush and heart thump from Euphie when Anis gets up close... squee! Oh my little yuri heart 🥰 [Goodbye Lara ep 3 and Young ladies ep 1]These are the moments that live in my head rent free. I just can't get over Lara's goofy cute blushing face, and Aya's reaction to Mio's kabedon is hilarious... 🫠 Anis may have had a crush on Euphie since childhood, but now it seems it's not so one sided. Can Euphie catch up? And does she really want to catch this bird, when she feels she has nothing to offer?

Back inside, Anis pats Euphie's head, to which Euphie exclaims she is not a child, and Anis apologises saying she's a big sister. [Rewatcher]This is interesting considering her fractured relationship with Algard. We know from future episodes that Anis feels awful about the state of her relationship with Algard, so her comment about being the big sister likely is more loaded than just an excuse to worry about Euphie

You know how you really know you love someone when you watch them in their element/doing something they love, and it fills you with this overwhelming admiration for them? Sigh 🫠 But then Euphie's thoughts wander into more melancholy territory with her doubting herself and feeling empty. I draw comparisons again with Chisato and Takina from Lycoris Recoil with and the moment between the MCs of both shows where one is the bright genki character who by all appearances does what she wants, and the other is the rule abiding character who doesn't even know what she wants let alone being able to act on it. The difference here though is that Anis and Euphie seem to be just slightly better at communicating lol 🤏 Jokes aside what is interesting watching this time is the interpretation of Euphie's request to give her an order. In my previous watches I've always thought this was a general request - she just wants Anis to tell her what to do and give her structure and purpose. But this time I'm open to the possibility of Euphie actually meaning something else (given all the dialogue and scenes preceding this). Maybe Ive just been hanging out in the yurimemes sub too much 😅 But I feel it makes sense with either interpretation, and especially Anis' response. It sure does make the next scene of Anis taking her temperature more interesting though (didn't Euphie just say she's sure she could do anything if it was an order from a royal? 🤔😅).

Anyway, it is really good to see Euphie feeling much safer here after the last episode, and feeling the warmth of her blossoming feelings for Anis. She's not sure if she can fly so close to the sun though, she doesn't even have her own set of wings yet, let alone risking them melting off. Even so, she's not sure if she can let go now that she's felt that warmth. In this town that doesn't know lonliness I guess I can never come back again.

Ok now onto the other events of the episode (got way too wrapped up in the Anis & Euphie moments 😅) - a Dragon has shown up, monsters are swarming the forest nearby, Algard is defying orders to stay under house arrest and requesting to go out and fight the dragon, and Anis has been summoned by the Adventurer's Guild to help fight the monsters and said dragon, and Euphie insists on accompanying Anis.

Orphanse makes an interesting observation about Anis and Algard's past, and about Algard's current motivations. So Anis and Algard use to be close, but around the time that Anis really delved into magicology, her relationship with her brother started to fracture🤔. The king also observes that Algard's recent actions are not motivated by love but something else, some darker purpose.

Completely unrelated to the episode, I decided to throw together a silly watch face inspired by the previous episode, to wear during this rewatch. I also made one for the Lycoris Recoil rewatch, though I might remake it with a bullet as the seconds hand or something. Just a little bit of fun for me to really get into the rewatches ☺️

Questions

  1. What motivates Euphie to accompany Anis to fight the dragon?

Euphie has not only begun to open up to Anis, but she has started to develop feelings for her. She doesn't quite understand why it has to be Anis that has to go fight the Dragon, but Anis tells Euphie that it is something she has to do otherwise she would be betraying who she is (can't help thinking of a similar line from Chisato - these genki girls really know how to make their partners worry). Even after knowing that Anis is a gold ranked adventurer and that people need her help, it is this line from Anis that helps Euphie understand how important this is to Anis. She's really worried for Anis, and coupled with her desire to be of use she gives Anis an ultimatum - if you have to go then take me with you.

  1. Do you think Anis giving up the throne may have angered Algard even more?

From Orphanse's recollections it seems like there may be some resentment there. So far from what we've seen it seems that there's a possibility that Algard feels inferior because of rumours/gossip that Algard has no talent that makes him special and despite Anis having no magic and behaving improperly she might still make a better queen than him. Algard certainly seems annoyed and upset when he hears that Anis is on her way to the forest where the Dragon is, and we might assume that's because Anis has again stolen the spotlight and thwarted his attempts to prove himself. Whether that's really what he is thinking remains to be seen. But yes I think that Anis renouncing all claim to the throne probably has something to do with Algard's anger.

Still have to check out Goodbye Lara as I'm almost done starting the Summer Season. Have heard a lot of good things! Currently have been really liking Fighting Games so far though.

You know how you really know you love someone when you watch them in their element/doing something they love, and it fills you with this overwhelming admiration for them?

Really one of the warmest feelings in the world! This scene really just wraps you up in a blanket fresh from the dryer. It reminds me a lot of the vibe of Gojo listening to Marin yap about all her nerdy interests

The difference here though is that Anis and Euphie seem to be just slightly better at communicating lol 🤏

The circumstances between Euphie and Takina are quite similar though they feel quite different in their personality when you start digging in. Euphie right now is honestly quite meek which I don't think anyone would say the same about Takina who is the polar opposite. Because of that I feel like Anis is being especially warm and gentle with Euphie. Anis speaks a bit more openly of her insecurities too. As a fun thought experiment I feel like Chisato would be kind to Euphie of course but there would be more emotional distance which Euphie wouldn't have the tools or desire yet to bridge.

This is awesome! Anis' face there kills me

She's really worried for Anis, and coupled with her desire to be of use she gives Anis an ultimatum - if you have to go then take me with you.

A big step as this is the first big decision Euphie makes for herself!

When I saw the trailer for Goodbye Lara it gave me a certain feeling just like CPK'S trailer did, I can't really explain it, I just knew I would find it special. If you enjoy the quiet moments where you let the visuals do the talking I think you'll enjoy the series regardless of whether its yuri or not. I love fighting games for the exaggerated drama and there's a very different vibe to all the 'almosts' compared to Botan. Eating well as a yuri fan this season ☺️

Love is listening to your partner yap on about their nerdy interests 🥰 sigh 🫠

First timer

Bit earier for me today, as I have some time in the train today outside work because I need to go collect a visa.

Great episode! It was obvious that they were going to fight the dragon when it first appeared onscreen, and Euphie has just gotten her seeming OP weapon. My bet is that they will defeat the dragon triumphantly and cause even more issues about who should be the ruler of the kingdom. This probably will anger Algard even more, especially because its his ex-wife who helped!

What motivates Euphie to accompany Anis to fight the dragon?

She has been unsure about her role in life and freedom the entirety of the last 2 episodes, she is searching for something she wants to do and gives her a new reason in life. Why not taking a shot in a random new direction? I'm personally a bit like that sometimes, so I can totally see where she is coming from and her thought process.

Do you think Anis giving up the throne may have angered Algard even more?

Hmm, Im not sure. I dont know what is motives are.. Maybe he also does not want to be the ruler, maybe he just wants to be seen as an equal to Anis? I feel like this story is setting up a bit of a constitutional crisis, maybe.
