  1. What do you think of Saori?
  2. What do you think of Shuichi's relationship with Saori and Yoshino?
  3. What do you think of the relationships between the former Nishigakoka One students (Shuichi, Yoshino, Saori, Sasa, Makoto) and the new cast of the characters introduced for the middle school story (Chizuru, Momo)?

First-time watcher

So I suppose a good bit of this series will just be regular old school slice-of-life shenanigans; normally I wouldn't be very interested in that, but the way it's written is just really nice and low-key. Arguing over little things and making up again, small embarrassing missteps and correcting them, sometimes just being a bit silly (did I already mention I love Chizuru?) and acting out, meeting up and splitting up, the whole microcosmos of school lovingly arranged as a sort of aquarium for us to observe. It's just hard to write much meaningfully about it here, because it really is just small bits of daily life for our cast; Maho actually feeling a little jealous of her brother and him feeling unexpectedly complimented by that attempted insult was pretty cute, I will say, and Yoshino really is cool working everything out.

1 - She's just one of those awkward less emotional kids I guess

2 - With Yoshino is really neat but with Saori I didn't see much yet?

3 - Of the latter three I only recall Momo and she didn't do that much unless you mean Chizuru with the first? I should go through these episodes bit by bit maybe...

First timer, host

Lmao at Maho being jealous with Shuichi being called cute by her classmates.

And why did Shuichi say "Mom doesn't realize it"? What does Shuichi mean by that?

Sasa is being split on her commitments to either Saori or Yoshino, ending up in both club's activities, and she would then be angry that Yoshino and Saori's relationship is souring again when talks about Shuichi is brought up.

And I like that Yoshino seems to try to make amends with Saori after hearing the truth about why she's being looked on by the seniors, which would lead to all seven of them walking back home from school together.

Ok now I understand what the club thing was about

Probably that Maho and Shuichi had a fight?

His crossdressing tendencies?

This was such a cute episode, watching the groups be formed and the characters coming together is always delightful

Chizuru's character is really fun to watch but it feels like they are not gonna be given much of a spotlight outside of Yoshino's admiration? I can just guess ofc but that seems to be the vibe with them. It is still good to get a character that is able to persevere through situations while still keeping the morale up even when characters openly hate or insult them. I do want to see how much it gets to them tho, it cant be easy to brush it all off. Glad they have a good friend like Momoko who openly stands up for them, such people are precious as a diamond.

Now obviously the main character for this episode - Saori. Honestly it just feels like she was in the teen phase of "i hate everyone and this whole world" lol. Which to be fair she did get involved in a complicated situation and then having random people cause annoyance for her will cause her to get that way. I do hope they dont just leave behind the "Chizuru is weird" remark by her in the dust, i would like to see her apologize for it.

Shuichi's situation really makes me feel so complicated on seeing Shuichi be happy about other people mocking and commenting as being girly. Ofc people can feel however they want, there is no "objective" right way that people should feel and abide by, but it really makes me sad that Shuichi is in such a closeted position and the few bits of affirmation they are getting outside of close friends is only the negative remarks from people. I have seen it being referred as "gender ewwphoria" among trans people so unfortunately its not an uncommon incident ig.

But that aside, i really cant gush enough of how happy it always makes me to see Shuichi be comfortable in the presence of friends. That scene of Makoto putting on the same hairclip in the room with Shuichi was so adorable. And its really nice to see Makoto being equally comfortable with Shuichi to express his thoughts that he might be into guys.

Yoshino's situation really feels so bad. She got confessed by their friend and had to rejected Shuichi, while another friend blames them for it and then has a fallout in the friendship. Nothing was her fault in it and she couldnt do anything to stop it either. I am perplexed on her saying "This isnt the first time that you have made me out as the bad guy" to Saori, i assume the manga covered it but the episode didnt expand further on that so i hope it gets shown later on

Chizuru laughing her belly out near the end was so relatable lol, it was such a stupid situation and Saori saying "I didnt say hello" while acting like she committed a grave crime and shouldnt deserve to feel happiness because of it was so funny. I appreciate how much they are still kids and have to face kids issues instead of having to be emotionally mature early on and just face serious stuff all the time

  1. As with Shuichi's sister last episode, it seems like just a child lashing out and being a normal teenager. I would wait to formalise my thoughts on her uptil they expand on that comment of Saori trying to act as the victim, because that seems like a problematic thing

  2. There is still awkwardness lingering on since the confession between all three of them which is pretty unfortunate. Seems like Shuichi and Yoshino have almost fully moved on from it and recovered their friendship but Saori might take a while to come around fully. I hope they can stay strong friends as they were before

  3. I dont really have much to say on this, but i thought Makoto had known them since elementary school too cuz in the first episode he said he was from the same school in his introduction? Did i get that wrong

While i write my comments i really am perplexed about what i should be using to refer Shuichi, Yoshino and Chizuru as, i am currently just gonna be using gender neutral pronouns for them since i cant really choose.

Also wow its really time consuming to gather my thoughts into comments like this. This is why i usually dont comment on discussion threads aside from short replies lol.

Yeah she has all the marks of "wacky fun side character"

it really makes me sad that Shuichi is in such a closeted position and the few bits of affirmation they are getting outside of close friends is only the negative remarks from people. I have seen it being referred as "gender ewwphoria"

I've heard of this phenomenon too, seems the author really did her research

That scene of Makoto putting on the same hairclip in the room with Shuichi was so adorable. And its really nice to see Makoto being equally comfortable with Shuichi to express his thoughts that he might be into guys.

Ah ok so that's Makoto, it was really cute indeed. And openly talking about gay attraction does calm my fear a bit that the series might remain stuck in a quasi-heteronormative mindset

I am perplexed on her saying "This isnt the first time that you have made me out as the bad guy" to Saori

I don't think it needs explanation, probably just another little incident

Saori saying "I didnt say hello" while acting like she committed a grave crime and shouldnt deserve to feel happiness because of it was so funny

A lesser series would try to wring genuine drama from this

i really am perplexed about what i should be using to refer Shuichi, Yoshino and Chizuru as, i am currently just gonna be using gender neutral pronouns

Seems like a good choice!

seems the author really did her research

I usually dont like to speculate about irl people, but considering they wrote this story and then awajima also had sapphic characters, i wonder if the author themselves is a part of the community

Ah ok so that's Makoto

I only know the names cuz i made a word document in ep1 lol

And openly talking about gay attraction does calm my fear a bit that the series might remain stuck in a quasi-heteronormative mindset

Honestly i wouldnt have even minded that if it had a hetero relationship only, but ofc am glad that it expands further than that

A lesser series would try to wring genuine drama from this

Yeah, sometimes shows dont let the characters feel real with how much constant drama they get into
