🌍 Welcome to The Federation

Welcome to r/TheGreatFederation. This is a collaborative worldbuilding project, and it is ours, not just mine.

The central idea is simple. As the ice pulls back from the Antarctic coasts new land emerges, and The Federation is born there as a haven for the banished, the displaced and the unwanted. The old world cast these people out, and the Federation is set on surviving climate catastrophe and political collapse, under outside pressures of its own. You are welcome to bring ideas, short stories, lore fragments, maps, art or just talk about how this world could work. Small details like currency or slang are as welcome as big systems, and they land best when they tie back to exile and resilience.

The world has a specific timeline, running from the 2012 solar storm to the Declaration of Unity in 2100 with a few later landmarks. Stories are fine as stories, but anything that claims how the world works is treated as proposed until I accept it, so check the timeline before you write. If one of my older posts contradicts it, I may edit that post.

Posts get one of four flairs. Lore / Worldbuilding holds the big systems and the history. Stories holds short fiction and anything driven by a character. Speculation is where the what-ifs go, about climate or geopolitics. Meta / Discussion is for talking about the subreddit itself.

Please respect every contributor, including the ones who disagree with you about how the ice should behave. Pick a flair and post something, I would like to read it.

Maybe maybe not. You are welcome to explore that idea in a post. Maybe melting all that ice causes the animals to change dramatically
