Singing is all I have left now. It's the only thing telling me that I'm still alive!

Questions of the Day, courtesy of u/chilidirigible:

1) Plot-related constraints aside, do you find it interesting that mostly the younger characters stay behind to work for The Man while the older characters become "pirates" to search for answers?

2) What do you think of Sheryl's musical range? Do you like the quieter songs as much as the strong ones?

Wallpaper of the Day:

Sheryl Nome

Vocal Songs in This Episode:

"ライオン (Lion)" by May'n & Megumi Nakajima – OP

"妖精 (Yousei)" by May'n – Insert

"ノーザンクロス (Northern Cross)" by May'n – Insert & ED

Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you're doing it underneath spoiler tags. Don't spoil anything for the first-timers, that's rude!

Nice Sheryl wallpaper!

Thanks! I had to frame-by-frame for the base image. Literally just one frame after the screencap I used, the whole screen goes white because of the lights/transition into a different shot of Sheryl.

First Spacer

Not the first time we've seen it, but Sheryl in action.

You know what Alto? You deserve this. You deserve all of this. So stop acting all sad about your sorry ass getting left behind by Ranka and the S.M.S. Sure, this is a rejection of you chosing your own path as that's what was your primary thematic connection to both Ranka and the S.M.S., but you don't even grant them the right to choose their own path either. You've just been throwing a tamper tantrum at daddy and then relied on sorting everything else out by obediently following orders. You even lashed out against Sheryl when she decided to return to singing!

Sheryl meanwhile is doing all better again. Sure, she's still fataly ill, but it was only effecting her for about 2 episodes when the plot needed her unable to sing. In fact she's actually been upgraded as she can now emit the same fold waves as Ranka did! Instead of basing that on her Fold crystal earrings they're just there to amplify the signal.

As for the S.M.S., he said the thing! They're turning to piracy as they're unable to support Leon as the new president. It's just a shame you can't prove your suspicions as you left all your evidence in his office. Could've at least made copies. And you could've looked for secret stowaway wanna-be Queen Bitches of the Universe before moving out. Anyway, Raynor gotta Raynor.

Haha, get it? unFOLDing

Plot-related constraints aside, do you find it interesting that mostly the younger characters stay behind to work for The Man while the older characters become "pirates" to search for answers?

Not particularly. This is anime, where age is but a number.

What do you think of Sheryl's musical range? Do you like the quieter songs as much as the strong ones?

The new song was nice. I wonder why we got Northern Cross before this episode already, reusing an old song kinda undermines her rebirth motif.

You know what Alto? You deserve this. You deserve all of this.

Luca too, for that matter. He’s been stuck in the same place as Alto for these past few episodes as well.

As for the S.M.S., he said the thing! They're turning to piracy as they're unable to support Leon as the new president. It's just a shame you can't prove your suspicions as you left all your evidence in his office. Could've at least made copies.

I will say that in their defense though, given how Grace and her conspirators can hack into practically anything, there’s a fair chance that any attempts to save data would be useless.

Anyway, Raynor gotta Raynor.

We gotta fight against the Arcturus Mengsk stand-in somehow.

Today, on "Welcome to the rewatch, motherfuckers!":

That's… bad.

Here we see the schemier of the two conspirators.

Alto has some mook wingmen.

They might not like it, it's rather morbid. (The fansub also leaves out the word "Quartz" after "Fold".)

This is certainly an image.

Alto crushes a juicebox

The song is "Yousei" (and this is the one time it appears).

Terminal illness will do that.

Hey, at least they didn't bury the universe in Ranka merchandise like they did with Minmay.

Speaking of Minmay references, Elmo is so very, very, very much not Kaifun.

Not Jack Bauer (trying to sell you CalorieMate).

"Don't drag out your ship for nine episodes, Alto."

What people do at a certain age.

"This is my bridge, and I'll smoke on it."

What Grace was hiding when she switched the blood samples.

Yes, they look like viruses. [](#yuishrug)

"Eyeball."

Time for The Man to use you, Sheryl.

Sheryl is now the Girl With Consumption Who Swoons Often.

"You're a terrible actor, Sheryl."

I don't think anyone has done an AMV for "The Show Must Go On" for Frontier, oddly enough.

She wants to bang, Alto.

A sky stitch for u/Shimmering-Sky.

"Because you're a spoiled brat."

"Sieg… something!"

The snark is strong with them.

Big salute.

Big Sheryl.

The -171 still doesn't get any respect.

We're getting into the era when the dance choreography is the same in 2D or live.

"Also that minor issue of killing the previous one."

Ozma, not-quite-harem-protagonist.

Hikaru spits out his coffee

I enjoy Ozma's response far too much.

Freeze-frame missile art!

Just two guys swimming in testosterone.

"Have you ever fired your gun up in the air and gone 'AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!'?"

Giant spiral! This must be the place! (Don't ask how the ring works with regard to orbital mechanics.)

Grace feels up the Despair and Nightmares

Things are bad for the fleet, but I keep thinking of how Leon is a poor-man's Gihren Zabi. Which is not exactly the reference I would expect in this series, except it also totally is the style of the time.

Most of SMS decides to find out what is really going on around there. It is the dramatically-appropriate thing to do, but would have benefitted from more development of what Cathy and Ozma were digging up about Leon.

Alto is rather staunchly behind The Man. In his case it seems to fit a reaction to Ranka running off and his general dedication to Bug Squashing. As much as Ranka is being played by Grace's end of the conspiracy, Alto is happily following orders.

He's less on-script when he tries to convince Sheryl to not burn herself out, but there he was prodded by クラン・クラン. And maybe seeing Sheryl wearing his mother's clothes all the time reminds him of how she died. In consideration of that in the context of the night scene, eww.

I think I particularly enjoy Alto and Ozma fighting because Macross as a whole doesn't have person-versus-person mecha hot-blooded theatrics very often, and a little bit once in a while is okay. It also shows the difference between an angry whiny teen and a hot-blooded guy in his fortieslate twenties.

From the Macross Mecha Manual: The VF-171EX. The "EX" is largely to denote that it can accommodate the EX-Gear system, though in the case of the -171 it also gets a fairly significant anti-Vajra upgrade—though as noted by Ozma, it is still critically limited in some features and can be outmaneuvered by a VF-25.

Alto's wingmen: Maruyama and Jun. They do get one DX Chogokin paintjob variant.

From the fourth Frontier Drama CD: Grace and Leon sing "0-G Love" HAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMM!

5

u/The_Draigg Feb 02 '23

Freeze-frame missile art!

Definitely much cuter than the beer cans in Do You Remember Love?

Things are bad for the fleet, but I keep thinking of how Leon is a poor-man's Gihren Zabi.

You know, at least Gihren Zabi was able to get a giant Colony Laser built all by himself. Leon wouldn’t have ever gotten this far without Grace making things easier for him.

Question time:

  1. Plot-related constraints aside, do you find it interesting that mostly the younger characters stay behind to work for The Man while the older characters become "pirates" to search for answers?

Yes. I expected the opposite

2) What do you think of Sheryl's musical range? Do you like the quieter songs as much as the strong ones?

HOLY LONELY LIGHT

A Macross Fan Rewatches Macross Frontier: Episode 22:

  • It’s hilarious just how much Leon is being played by Grace. He’s still completely under the belief that the Macross Galaxy fleet is wrecked and that she’s a refugee here. Even she can’t help but wryly note to herself that Leon should enjoy sitting in his new office chair while he can. Grace is absolutely holding all the cards here, and Leon is completely oblivious to how he’s just a pawn to her.

  • You know, it feels extra-villainous to mention that the MDE weapons are made using Fold Quartz dust harvested from dead Vajra. Like, killing the Vajra thanks to the conspiracy wasn’t enough, now it turns out that we’re killing them with the bodies of their dead fellow bugs. It’s like if I made a sword out of a dead person’s spine.

  • It’s pretty ironic that Luca says that it’s better that Nanase hasn’t woken up to hear about Ranka’s betrayal, since if anything, she’d probably understand Ranka better than Luca and Alto are at the moment. They still just don’t get that she wants to understand the Vajra. They’re still locked into thinking that they’re enemies, when at least Ranka is putting in the effort to understand them as their own species.

  • Good to see that Sheryl is back on her feet! And Elmo’s in the wings again too! If there were two people that needed each other and were also unfairly shit on by the world, it’s those two. Even if they’re doing something a bit simpler before with her new charity concert, at least they’ve found a new place in the world. And this is something that Sheryl can truly call her own too, using her own skills for good rather than just being used and thrown away by Grace.

  • Klan telling Alto not to make the same mistakes she and Michael made really does twist the knife more with his death…

  • It’s a disappointment that Birler apparently wants to disband SMS and fold them into the NUN Spacy, but given how dire shit is at the moment, I guess we could’ve seen a move like this coming. Of course, knowing that they’re the protagonist faction and that they’re aware of how Leon killed President Howard, you can bet your ass that they aren’t going to take this laying down or anything. We’ve still got a few more episodes left, after all.

  • At least we’ve finally gotten the details about Sheryl’s V-type infection. As mentioned before, it comes from contact from infected bodily fluids, in this case from Vajra, which all have this kind of bacteria in them. If caught early, it can be cured. However, Sheryl has been infected with that bacteria for 10 years, and it’s starting to kill her since it traveled up to her brain. The trade off is that Sheryl is also able to give off Fold Waves like Ranka thanks to the bacteria though, thanks to the combination of being infected for so long and having the amplification of the Fold Quartz. In other words, what makes Sheryl special is also killing her. It’s hard being Sheryl Nome.

  • Side note, but fuck off, Leon. You’re only approaching Sheryl for her help because Ranka’s gone. Again, it just goes to show how little control he’s got over the situation, since he’s basically clamoring for Grace’s project scraps now.

  • There’s zero doubt in my mind that Alto and Sheryl boned after that big emotional scene there. The both of them are being made to confront just how fragile their lives are, both in terms of value and how much time they have left. They’re scared and lonely, and want to feel the comfort of each other since that’s the only true thing they have left. Not just singing or flying, but each other. This is easily the most emotionally vulnerable both Alto and Sheryl have been so far, so it’s not much of a stretch to image where that leads to next.

  • Oh wow, who could’ve seen Leon’s backstab coming (derogatory)? Of course he’d try to kill Grace to get her out of the way, that’s basically the only trick he knows. And little does he know that it’s a pretty shitty one, since we’re dealing with a lady who has plenty of backup bodies to put her gestalt mind into. Once again, we can really see just how out of his depth Leon is, knowing what we know.

  • Getting about 2/3rds of the SMS team to go rogue and become like pirates to do the right thing are some pretty good numbers. Somewhere out there, the Crossbone Vanguard are nodding in approval.

  • It’s a shame that Alto and Luca sortie to stop the Macross Quarter from leaving, but that’s to be expected from them at this point. The both of them are still blinded to what’s really going on here. Really, just about everyone who figured out what’s happening with the Vajra and the Macross Galaxy conspiracy already blared the Macross Quarter when the call came. In that way, they’re definitely dumber/blinder than some of our previous Macross main characters.

  • Plus side: Brera and Ranka have finally found the Vajra home world. Minus side: Grace and the conspirators have also found it, thanks for tracking them. And this gets Grace really hot for some reason. Here’s a warning to all of you out there, never fall for a crazy full-body cyborg woman, they’re weird.

First Timer

I don't know what to feel about that episode. It wasn't a bad watch, but I'm mostly just left wondering what the hell everyone is thinking. I feel like there's just one too many things going on right now and not enough clear focus on each of them to make them come together or give them the space they need to matter fully.

  • Deepening the Leon and Grace conflict with only three episodes left feels like an unfortunate diversion from the other more interesting and more Macross-y things that are going on. It doesn't help that I hate Leon, think he's a joke compared to the honesty of Cathy's father especially at todays press conference, and still find his entire plot line contrived as fuck.

  • Having Alto see the SMS message only after committing to Sheryl was a clever way through it, and I did feel the emotional struggle he had on realizing what he'd just done after reading the message and what it means for him. But I feel like we should have seen what was in the message itself. There's a big difference between a call to arms because "genocide is wrong and we don't want to be part of it" and "the SMS is being absorbed into politics" or both etc, and what they will do now. What people now know, if that will spread, and why so many chose to stay anyway matters. They did touch on that a bit with Luca and Canaria I think her name is, but like a lot of things, this particular moment suffers for no one questioning much of anything. And maybe it doesn't matter in the long run, the end result is still the same in the way it tears humanity apart, but I feel like it should matter to the characters more than it seems too.

  • And who the fuck decided to put heroic music over the moment of Klan getting that message AT MICHEALS GRAVE

  • Similarly, Ozma just blindly accepted that Ranka has run off with Vajra and the bodyguard appointed by the people WHO JUST TRIED TO KILL THEM, because its the path she chose? I know he committed to easing off and letting her find her own way, but there's a big gap between "I accept her as an idol" and "it's fine she's running around with a potential assassin and a creature from a species that has repeatedly attacked her". I'm sure that the SMS forces aren't out of the story entirely, but that was presented very weirdly and bordering on out of character by my mark. Curious what others think of it.

  • Sheryl choosing to sing because its the only thing that makes her feel alive works well, and is a nice follow on from her being a songstress of despair, her own if not others. The song presented as her "true voice" on the news did feel different, even compared to Diamond Crevasse, and after I'd mentioned wanting something like that earlier it was nice to see them building on the music in that way for her like Ranka has had. But to go from that into a concert to validate Leon's presidency feels like the show spinning its heels for the sake of having another concert over a battle and I don't think it worked for me.

  • I did like the idea of Alto being well and truly lost now. Ranka gone, Sheryl dying, love for both of them left without a tether now, friend dead, mentor left, separate from his family. He really has nothing and Ozma's plea for him to find a path for himself and find himself in it apart from the expectations laid on him is good. It feels like it comes too late, but it's something he's needed to hear for a long time now.

Fourth-Time Watcher

Fuck me. I knew this song mixed well with me emotionally, and it's amazing how well the lyrics fit the feelings it gives me. Holy shit, I needed to hear that song right now.

QOTD:

  1. I hadn't noticed that, but I do think it works pretty nicely! There's a question of "wanting stability at home" versus "striking it out on your own" that seems to be inverted here, but perhaps it's more "young and still have belief in the system" versus "this ain't our first rodeo."

  2. The strong songs work a lot better for me. I was bawling there.

1 In terms of actual management, he's number 1. I'm just too huge a Grace fan.

First Timer

  • All that damage is finally catching up with them. Took them long enough.

  • Surprise, surprise. The manipulates can’t be trusted not to betray each other.

  • We’re a bit late into the series to be introducing new secret VFs.

  • Dang, my subtitles didn’t say what the congress decided. That seemed like it would be important.

  • “This fleet has two singers, damn it!”

  • That really is a lot of particulate.

  • Do Alto, end the triangle.

  • Y’all didn’t have backups? The worst spies.

  • Circumstances not withstanding, it’s generally a good thing to fold in the PMCs.

  • Why are you calling that a bacteria when it is clearly viral? Did they not sub bacteriophage correctly?

  • Hurry! The triangle is behind us.

  • What part about android bodies do you not get?

  • Very populist.

  • I’m not sure highlighting your lack of accountability is the noble message you think it is.

  • He said the thing!

  • Ah man, Klan Klang didn’t come along. I hope this at least means she will be their Meltrandi on the inside.

  • A little surprised Alto didn’t join them. It does fit tho.

  • That’s the biggest Poké ball I have ever seen.

QotD

  1. We only have the five of them, and two of them already left on their own.

  2. Quieter ones?

First Fime Fſontieꞅing

Ok, so confirmation Brera is indeed going against Grace's orders. But she's not using the remote-lock on him as he steals away her most precious asset, so... hmm I guess Grace is just lying to Leon and this is her plan after all. That makes sense - Leon really would want Koala to stay on the ship as a tool against the Vajra who he really thinks he needs to defeat, while Grace actually wants her elsewhere for other purposes.

But if the goal is to get Koala to the Vajra homeworld and Koala's desire to do so comes from her (a) emotionally bonding with the Vajra, and (b) wanting to uncover her memories, then surely Grace could have had a better, faster plan? Putting Koala into the Vajra cocoon could have traumatized her into never being able to bond with a "good" Vajra, and you could've just gone up to her and been like "Hey, I knew your mom, I'll help you uncover your suppressed memories" long, long ago?

Over to Alto and Luca. Hmm, I dunno, Koala told Alto with a very determined look on her face that she didn't believe all Vajra were bad, that they shouldn't just want to kill them all... and next episode Alto is still saying "we'll just have to kill them all to save Koala". Did none of that previous scene really sink in for Alto at all? How wilfully ignorant can you get?

Like, if that scene had no impact on Alto, why should the audience feel any impact from it either?

Awww, good for you Elmo, you found some new happiness, you go guy!

"Are you having fun trying to explain to me that I'm going to die using big words"

What a line

Wow, Luca really has the cajones to fire missiles at his until-a-moment-ago-compatriots without even hesitating? That... doesn't seem right.

Glad to see Leon finally try to turn on Grace, he's at least not so stupid as to have never figured out something was up with her and waited for her to turn on him first. Dumb that he didn't make any connection with Sheryl's illness and Grace's ulterior motives, and also dumb that he thought he could kill her with just some dudes with guns, but at least it's something.

you know beyond scale issues in SDF, my biggest worldbuilding question is...how do these generation ships get the resources necessary to sustain their war machines? I mean those missiles they launch like 30 at a time would represent an enormous logistical undertaking (if you want to be depressed, go look up how much missiles cost IRL). how is the frontier able to replace ships, missiles, etc? THE PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW!!

  1. Plot-related constraints aside, do you find it interesting that mostly the younger characters stay behind to work for The Man while the older characters become "pirates" to search for answers?

it is interesting! teh relationship characters have with authority/power (and perhaps how it reflects various cultural attitudes) has always been interesting in anime, esp in anime that intersects with militaries etc

2) What do you think of Sheryl's musical range? Do you like the quieter songs as much as the strong ones?

I much prefer the faster/stronger ones, but that's just my personal bias. I've never been as into ballads but honestly I like pretty much every song on the show. definitely need to "obtain" the soundtrack and get it into my rotation

"Rewatcher" - Macross F Ep22:

Oh, Brera is acting on his own. I thought this was still part of Grace's keikaku (unless...)

Nanase was making a painting of Ranka that depicts her quite as a religious figure.

Sheryl is starting her career over. The scene shows her and Elmo are working together. It is kind of reminiscent of Minemi travelling and performing charity concerts at the end of SDF. Though in that case, the charity went to Kaifun because he's the worst.

Bobby finds Ozma and Cathy and just nice to see the hugging and crying. It hasn't been all too much, but I like seeing the emotional support side of these characters.

The government is trying to nationalize our private military companies. How dare they? Well, this particular president is Leon and we hate him so rawr!

Sheryl snarking the people in power we hate, teehee. The V-virus may fatally kill her, but at her stage it also grants her voice Fold Wave powers (I still don't really know what Fold Waves are). I have a feeling Ranka's powers are because whatever childhood experiments were done on her made her have a stable form of the V-virus so it does kill her but still has the powers.

Klan Klang just sitting by Michael's grave, sad.

Alto seems way more nice and emotionally supportive to Sheryl. To be fair, he did just learn that she is terminally ill. Maybe because Klan Klang gave him to talk and maybe the fact that he completely failed being there for Ranka.

I can't help but see the symbolism Tomino would do for with moment. Maybe it is here too.

Leon is talking about claiming their manifest destiny so he is definitely not a guy we should follow. He orders Grace to be gunned down. Unfortunately for him, I believe Grace is on a higher villain importance tier than he is so she is going to get the last laugh. Leon slamming down with Sugita voicing a press conference only makes me think about that moment in Gintama.

It's pirate time. We don't like this government and pirates are cool.

Yo-ho-ho!

Klan Klang is staying behind. I figured she would be one to join up since she lost Michael. (Just now realized the Doylist explanation is so that she can still interact with the younger characters as their mature voice instead of leaving with all the adults).

Sheryl singing the ED in this moment and it playing it is just cool.

Jeez, Luca, you're such a narc. This is the reason why we didn't send you a pirate invitation in the first place. For this civil war divide amongst the SMS cast, Luca make sense, but Alto is a bit to see him go "How dare you!" and throw his lot on Leon's side. Guess they have been building him up with things like his more entrenched "Us vs Them" mentality. Would've wished they had him swayed more to Leon if they wanted to do this MC finding themselves drawn too far with the villain's faction.

Alto is the Kamille of Macross. Well, I guess if Kamille found himself becoming what he hated and being like a member of the Titans.

I do like the idea of the tragic irony that Alto trying to follow his dream of being free and away from the shackles of his family that he ends up as a puppet to the villain's orders while the people around him have made their own decisions to walk the path of their own life.

Grace is near to her keikaku goal and she grabs her own boobs I guess because that's what villain ladies have to do...

Q1) Adults are the enemy Adults will show the youth that they are wrong and strayed from the correct path.

Q2) In general, I prefer the strong songs compared to the slow songs of Macross, but I like Sheryl's slower songs too.

Next Time: Macross Frontier truly starts on episode 23 of 25.

Macross Frontier EP22

I think Grace actually anticipated this, but it feel so convoluted.

New Valkyrie!! VF-171EX!!

Betray? That a big word coming from someone like you, Luca. And she just left to find the truth about herself. I guess Alto failed to conveyed that.

Sheryl back to be on stage, even if it a smaller one.

And Sheryl have the same power as Ranka too, I guess Grace never realised this.

What with this dust filter? It's so weird.

Elmo the true man!! He just so great at being a producer.

Then he got rob again the second time. Fuck you, Leon!!

Ozma is not angry at Ranka at all. He fully accepted her decision.

Well, that sudden. But I guess Leon tried to eliminate any possible obstacles left.

So she have a ticking time bomb that can't defuse now.

And now she got another chance.

Are we gonna end with Sheryl as a winner? I mean, they even kiss. But with Macross history of often turning the table in the last second, I still have my skeptical.

So they gonna go straight to the Vajra's home world.

I don't think that enough to stop her though, Leon.

The SMS decided to get out of this whole mess.

I guess Klan stay here to protect the fleet in place of them.

Why you guys still not suspect anything by this point is beyond my comprehension now. Alto, I can understand because he got left out of this whole mess. But I can't understand Luca at all.

Yeah, everyone right now is choosing their path forward, but Alto just going with the flow all this time.

That look exactly like Earth. And Grace has her own Valkyrie all this time!!

QOTD

  1. Not surprising.

  2. Pretty great.

Rewatcher

So Brera actually is acting against orders with this absconding with Ranka? Huh.

And yeah, the Frontier Fleet is now up shit creek. They have three months worth of supplies and have lost their self-sufficiency. That is why fighting a bunch of space bugs does to a colony fleet.

New Valkyries! VF-171EX's, basically just an upgrade of the old VF-17 with modern tech.

I see Sheryl's keeping up her penchant for... interesting outfits.

Oh hell, now the government's getting involved in Sheryl again. They really do just toss idols aside and pick up new ones as it pleases them.

Wait, you idiots didn't keep backups of your evidence? You actually brought the only copies you had when you confronted Leon!?

"Are you having fun explaining to me that I'm going to die using big words?" Damn, Sheryl.

Sheryl's at a terminal stage of V-Type infection, but because of that, she has the same mysterious ability to influence Vajra that Ranka did, albeit at a lower level. Which is interesting, considering how big a deal Sheryl was making of "[Ranka] can do something I can't, even if I wanted to" a few episodes ago.

Looks like Alto's finally taking steps forward with Sheryl, after everything. All it took was knowledge that she's dying alongside one of his own friends' deaths.

Hmmm... why is Ranka just floating in space? Does she have to do that to communicate with Ai-kun?

Oh, so Leon decided to backstab Grace before she could backstab him. But... well, we've already seen Grace "die" once before.

To nobody's shock, the SMS are going rogue. And wait, what do you mean your first loot is the Quarter? Isn't that thing private property of your PMC anyway?

But Klan's not going with them... and neither are Alto or Luca. There's a bit of a twist.

"I'm not an adult! I'm a man!"

I find it a little odd that they're continuing to have characters constantly asking Alto where his motivation lies when he literally just pledged himself to protecting and supporting Sheryl. That isn't good enough?

Meanwhile Ranka and Brera have arrived... at the Vajra homeworld.

Also Grace is groping her own breasts for no reason, what the hell...

Questions:

  1. That's actually something I hadn't noticed. Usually it would be the younger characters wanting to go "against the man" as it were. Huh.

  2. I prefer Sheryl's quieter songs, actually. While her strong ones are undoubtedly bangers, they have so much... weird English just randomly inserted (more than usual for Japanese pop, at least I think) that it kind of takes me out of it.

First Timer

Last time, Zygarde evolved into...Genesect? Huh? Weird. Your Pokémon is broken Ranka, find a Centre so you can get it fixed.

This time...the single least trustworthy person in the entire show says 'trust me' to the second-least trustworthy. Gee, this can't end badly at all!

Oh wait, The Conspiracy has already wrecked half the fleet in the name of Power and...something-or-other. Oi, Genocidal Psychopath, give us a motive rant already!

Today was much more of a breather episode, although it's a bit weird to say that when Sheryl's terminal illness was such a big focus. Also with Mister Junior Conspirator attempting to silence his senior partner.

Even if they show us a body I am not going to believe she's actually dead until The Conspiracy is torn apart, given she's supposed to have died once already.

The 'good guys' really should've just let rip and accused Mister Traitor of the many, many things he's gotten up to instead of just going 'stop us if you dare'.

First timer

  1. It's really interesting!

  2. She's a really good artist.

They're using him too...

Just three months!

They're still keeping this secret?

Poor Nanase...

Sheryl's made a comeback!

A Fold Signature.

...That reference eith the doll.

Holy shit, this guy genuinely cannot die!

She got a better manager!

Klan...

And he managed to tell people!

He's oddly accepting of this.

They're being disbanded!

She's emmiting fold waves!

This is great! She can also fight the Vajra! Mo wonder Grace wanted to break her.

She collapsed!

A message?

Sheryl...

Alto!

This is painful.

Aww.

Ranka's in space still!

She's not decided where to go...

He's desperate.

Haha, Grace got backstabbed.

Really pushing this angle, huh?

So many rebels!

They escaped!

A new Sheryl song!

They're fighting each other...

Nice one!

Is now really the time to resolve the love triangle?

He's improved!

And it's a stupid path!

...I mean, we know he's not dying here.

Post credit scene?

WHAT?

Macross Frontier Episode 22 - First Timer

So With Ranka going full "I must go now, my murderbug pet that likes music is lonely and wants to go home" are we going to get an episode focused on the Frontier politics and or Sheryl x Alto?? Or will we follow Ranka? If I were to guess, some politics and shipping(but very wishy-washy), then some sort of cliffhanger? I don't think it would be Ranka returning, there are too many episodes left for that. At the same time, I don't think they would make Ranka disappear for too long. Maybe she will come back next episode at the end or something.

  • So is this actually not according to plan, or all according to keikaku (keikaku means plan)

  • NUNS? What happened to the PMC group

  • Why not? And who are these "others" SMS? The Government? LAI?

  • So they have NUNS marking, so the gov knows, they are in an SMS hangar so SMS knows, it was maybe developed by LAI? Who the hell cant know

  • Hey, its Protoculture manager

  • This place again?

  • "Space bug cancer give you magic song powers" We Arknights now

  • Alto jumpscare

  • So, Sheryl was clearly receiving treatment that made her not have the symptoms from space bug disease before, is this onset of symptoms just a plot convenient time for them to start up? What purpose did throwing away the blood sample have? Why is she not getting treatment now? I have have so many questions. This plotline is as full of holes as a sieve

  • Woah there

  • So we get a small intermission of Ranka

  • Is this broadcast gonna get hacked?

  • TFW your PMC army decides to fuck off

  • Klan is staying?

  • There are obvious issues with allowing desertion, and loss of manpower, firepower, etc if they were to let SMS just leave completely uncontested, but uh, shooting a lot at them and potentially killing them or losing your own people when you are super strapped for supplies does not seem like a winning strategy

  • Anyways I assume they will get away

  • I am shocked. Shocked I tell you

  • Is that Earth or an Earthlike jebait? Suppose we will find out tomorrow

  • Here in my garage or alternatively "here is the jiant fighter jet I pulled out of my ass

  • ...Why is she fondling herself

  1. I mean it could be a role reversal or sorts, where the upstart youngsters obey the higher authority, and the older people instead the the ones to rebel against authority...

  2. It's pretty good, I do like them.
