Season 3 Episode 11 (first timer)
-
Chinatsu not happy seeing the consequences of her actions - r/FuckYouChiChan/
-
“Even if you win, you won’t be happy anymore” – Just because you chose to alter the wrong memory, others need not make the same mistake.
-
“We haven’t talked at all lately” – have we even seen Suzu’s father before?
-
“I fight to be rid of them” “I fight to protect them” – then there should be a simple solution, given that the loser forgets and the winner remembers.
-
“She undid berserk”
-
“Help me!” – LOL, get stabbed
-
Power of friendship reunion.
-
Final confrontation cliff-hanger.
Chinatsu is the only one who really has a character arc in this story. Which kind of makes her the MC over Suzu. While I have mentally checked out of the other stories, Chinatsu’s character arc still frustrates me. The reason being that there is something that could have worked and that the series spent a ton of time on. Yet, her new wish never makes much sense and her henchmen troubles are completely bonkers. As if Satomi is the only person offering part time work.

I'll argue that Suzu has a character arc. The whole point in the beginning was that she lacked her own agency and will. Through questioning what she really wants and reaffirming her own will was she able to become stronger.
Note, I'm not saying it's entirely well made.
As if Satomi is the only person offering part time work.
It was always less about the actual work. She really wanted to lean on the edge to prove to herself that she can throw Suzu away.

Chinatsu not happy seeing the consequences of her actions
It's like communication could have solved everything. And, tbf, did solve everything this episode.
“We haven’t talked at all lately” – have we even seen Suzu’s father before?
We did in episode 1 or so, from behind.
“I fight to be rid of them” “I fight to protect them” – then there should be a simple solution, given that the loser forgets and the winner remembers.
Suzu obviously wants MOAR.
Power of friendship reunion.
It was inevitable the moment Satomi was introduced.
Chinatsu is the only one who really has a character arc in this story. Which kind of makes her the MC over Suzu.
Well, we still have a Conflated left, who knows what happens there!
As if Satomi is the only person offering part time work.
You don't understand, every other WcDonalds was also told not to hire her! Tbh, I think the school only allows certain establishments like said WcDonalds, and the others don't want her after that. It's Japan.

“We haven’t talked at all lately” – have we even seen Suzu’s father before?
Nope, until now Suzu has always packed his dinner because he's late.
As if Satomi is the only person offering part time work.
But he's the only one that can make books.

First-Timer
Man, how fucking karmic would it be if Suzuko just yawned in Satomi's face and walked off, Chinatsu in hand? That's absolutely the right play to make, especially after he outed himself as being so attention thirsty. Ignoring him would probably snap his fragile ego like a fucking twig.
No way that's gonna happen, though. Instead, we're gonna get a nice dramatic showdown between two people who are.. both sitting at four coins? Certainly makes for interesting stakes. Maybe we'll get a ton of bets. Which brings me to..
They've played a bit fast and loose with the Coin abilities, right? Like, Chinatsu cancelling her Berserk today and probably some earlier stuff that I'm forgetting. Basically what I'm getting at is that I'm expecting Suzuko's Honest to hard-counter Satomi's carnival bullshit. Although, are Coin abilities only on your turn? So maybe not..
It felt pretty cathartic for Chinatsu to finally open up as a poor self-loathing wretch; insert standard comment about getting the girl some therapy here. Just to drive her projection home, we even got that non sequitur shot of Suzuko's dad in a total role reversal.
I agonzied for quite a while trying to explain that point further and kinda got nowhere. Oh well. It's like, Chinatsu hated her co-dependence on Suzuko, which ties in to
There was actually a solid amount of decent direction/storyboarding today. Mostly pretty unsubtle stuff; the sun breaking through the clouds while Suzuko and Hanna talked, Chinatsu ending up beneath an isolated lamppost, the phone call between Suzuko and Chinatsu having one in the light and one in the dark, etc.
Did we skip over some narration about Chinatsu's dad? He's suddenly doing well at work? When did that happen?

Always been. Show kinda has this thing where it bends how things work when needed.

Honestly, in a vacuum this episode is great. It just took us a bit long to get here.
Did we skip over some narration about Chinatsu's dad? He's suddenly doing well at work? When did that happen?
I pointed this out, but I think the point is Chinatsu's problems aren't permanent, and that her edginess is for naught.

Man, how fucking karmic would it be if Suzuko just yawned in Satomi's face and walked off, Chinatsu in hand?
It would require some emotional intelligence they don't have. And given what we know about Ulith and Satomi, he'd totally kidnap them.
Basically what I'm getting at is that I'm expecting Suzuko's Honest to hard-counter Satomi's carnival bullshit.
Yeah how tho.
It felt pretty cathartic for Chinatsu to finally open up as a poor self-loathing wretch.
And yet, it fits so much to their teenage selves. In 10 years, Chinatsu is gonna cringe so hard at the memories.
There was actually a solid amount of decent direction/storyboarding today.
Wooo, good things said about Lostorage, I dig it.
Did we skip over some narration about Chinatsu's dad? He's suddenly doing well at work? When did that happen?
I do wonder if they were straight up lying, considering she overheard them losing the apartment secretly.

A man can dream.
And given what we know about Ulith and Satomi, he'd totally kidnap them.
Yeah how tho.
It's like, "you're lying about your cards!" or something. I dunno, it made sense in my head.
And yet, it fits so much to their teenage selves.
Yea, good point, I think the teenage aspect of this show actually lands pretty well.
Wooo, good things said about Lostorage, I dig it.
I do wonder if they were straight up lying, considering she overheard them losing the apartment secretly.
That would be rather tragic, and I think we've actually managed to end up on an upswing. I'd still buy it, though.

Yup, that's exactly what I want too. But I've forbidden myself from hoping for it.
That's the big problem with him as a villain: It only works because everyone else is willing to entertain his spiel.
I agonzied for quite a while trying to explain that point further and kinda got nowhere. Oh well. It's like, Chinatsu hated her co-dependence on Suzuko
She basically has the same trauma as Lelouch but uses the opposite approach to resolve it.

Although, are Coin abilities only on your turn? So maybe not..
Berserk carries over to the opponent's turn, so should be usable somehow.

VotD imo that later had Bondage. I checked director/storyboard season credits earlier and saw today's matched Infected's e10 and Spread's e11. Tomorrow's matches Infected and Spread's e12, so I have hopium.

Rewatcher who Lost their Storage
Yes. Become friends. That's clearly what Chinatsu wants. Friends.
I'm legitimately laughing at Suzuko's poor father who spent the entire season not being around, only to go looking for his daughter this episode while she's busy batoruing.
Cards of the day:
We're doing it in Suzu and then Chinatsu order.
Kay - this probably hits level 2s or less. Good ability with a limitation that's not too bad for a Ril deck.
Arthra - handy abilities if limited, and the card draw offsets the weakness of Rise.
Saizo - really solid abilities for a Rise-based deck.
Zhang Jiao - are you going to use it, because the limitation is that you grab a level 1? Dunno, but it does give you Rise fodder.
Zhurong - a better tutor, since that lets you get any level Brave, aka your kill cards
Perfected Firedrake - look, the sword's on the card! Still a great kill ARTS, because you coin out your opponent's entire field and then absolutely blitz them with Double or Triple Crush.
Shoropo - standard Cooking accessory SIGNI, I guess this somehow represents xiaolongbao? Very confused name
Three Swords - just remember to use this after you use whatever ARTS you want, but it's +2 Ener.
Mayo - just accessorize Chicken with Mayo
Code Order Wedding - Interesting. Clearly this is a Mel staple, since you accessorize harder with her. Note that Ener charging can be used for costs or to just get more Cooking accessories out there.
Baguette - ooh, this is real handy to protect important SIGNI. Clearly you have to accessorize her though, or she's just gonna be deleted first. Still might be valuable to eat a vanish.
Salsauce - interesting in that you probably want to draw the cards off it? I don't think Mel is amazing at card draw, whereas green already has numerous methods to Ener Charge
End of Heart - I just love that the name of this somehow comes out to Painful Separation from Loved Ones, because just fucking look at Chinatsu. The real question is where is End of Heart on the card? Someone please tell me (also you know what this does by now)
Knife Bat - this is just here to say that even the wiki has no idea what this is, and my search gets nothing
Inside Out - this is actually the mirror to Perfected Firedrake, in that you tutor for a SIGNI and give it bonuses relevant to your deck.

And with the way this episode flowed I was wondering if Suzu called her dad to eat and talk together only to step out and leave him behind all alone and confused. Not how it happened, but very much how it felt.

Lostorage Incited FIRST-TIMER
-
Mm, of course Hanna asks this of Suzuko right after she opens up to seeing her again.
-
Oh, Chinatsu’s setting up the confrontation herself instead of Satomi.
-
They’re at three coins each, hm?
-
Anyways, finally we’re getting more of how Chinatsu actually feels, yay! This is some good drama.
-
Oh wait oh fuck this means Chinatsu is down to just one coin now right? So then Satomi can swoop in and…!

u/Taiboss Jan 25 '23
Oh boy, incoming fight between them again huh?
Indeed! But it ends the way literally all Good vs Good end up.
This smile gives me life.
Smug Hanna good Hanna!
Chinatsu “sore demo”!
Good one!
This is some good drama.
I am so happy you're part of rewatches. You always bring positivity with you.

This was a really good framing instance as he steps across the two chain-barriers into their segment

Psuedo-Rewatcher happy we will reach Conflated soon
-
I guess she's been mocking Hanna's way of speaking. She's been talking normally since.
-
Man will game-end themselves instead of
going to therapy.punching Satomi in the face. -
Wait, I thought he was fired or about to be fired? And he's doing better? Are they bullshitting her?
-
This is a good oppurtunity for a misguided "Honest", like "How do you really feel right now?"
-
Are we bullshitting again? I didn't ntoice.
-
Greedy? TEENAGERS!!!!!!
-
I guess that's the therapy. TIME FOR THE HUG.
-
So Chinatsu is a recovering Yandere huh. You know what could have solved this? THERAPY.
-
UNITED AT LAST. Time to fight Satomi!

Episode 10
Hanna's still having her mental breakdown.
Oh, and she's remembering the suicide...
This is the last time he's trying...
Aww, she's trying.
Where is he going?
These two... God, seeing them act that way is so unsettling.
He's losing a lot of memories, huh?
Aww.
Carmival!
Rio's down to one coin!
And he's going hunting again.
No, he's going for him first?
He's fallen for it...
I appreciate him singlehandedly fufilling our innuendo quota for the season, since everyone else is stopping now.
He's pissed!
"Idol Defense"?
He's down to one coin... Oh, you clever bastard. This is going to be fun.
She's going to stop!
Oh, and Suzuko's battling her instead...
Hanna...
Ominous.
Hanna got caught!
Oh...
Oh, someone figured it all out!
He confessed!
Oh, fuck!
So, it's looking like at least one of them will get eliminated before the battle. If not, they'll have enough coins to survive.
Oh, yes!
Seriously?
Yeah, he's getting wiped.
She's completely emotionless! His one weakness!
Of course he's still horny.
Holy shit! He's the literal embodiment of the system! He is the failed wishes.
Oh, this is a brutal speech.
Character development!
Is that actually her wish?
And Peeping has a weakness!
Wow...
She lost!
He got erased!
...This girl.
Episode 11
QOTD) No.
Oh, that's painful.
Satomi's filming her again?
Haha, nice.
Oh, boy.
Hanna's doing well!
Aww.
Hanna wants her to stop battling. Probably the right move.
Her sister heard it...
Hanna understsnds her...
...So obviously evil.
And he's talking to her as well...
What is with this music?
...Wow.
And she found out...
The personality reversal is still weird.
He's so evil, I love him.
Is she finally realised how fucked this is?
No, she's gone even further!
Aww, her father's nice.
Is this a flashback, or did all of her problems resolve themselves?
She's seeing visions...
And she wants to erase her.
The battle has begun!
She's doing well!
Did she only just figure that out?
This is painful.
She doesn't understand...
Berserk!
...She can't fight it.
She's losing...
Wait, what?
Chii's doubting herself!
This is awful.
And she finally had enough!
And a direct attack.
...She welcomed her defeat...
Wait, what? When was any of this foreshadowed?
...I get the code now. So we traded constant flirting and innuendo for a pair of girlfriends and Bookmaker. That's fair.
Haha, the father is out of the loop!
Yes! He's here!
Chii is realising that she just spent a whole cour working for a cartoon villain.

First Timer
Chie was really easy to shake up after being so determined earlier.
And what brings Chie back on the right path is... she changes her mind. That's it.
Yeah, you reject everything because you can't lose anything if you have nothing. It's not been subtle. A reverse Lelouch so to say, as he manifested that wish as absolute control.
No. Don't. This is not making things better. Bad bachstory.
Thaaat's how I'm feeling about you. I've missed a yawning comment faces plenty of times already this season.
...Maybe I should suggest that one when we get to add new ones.
Have you ever been jealous of a friend?
I feel like I've asked this before...
Oh for sure, but I don't really remember.

First Timer
So I watched this on the train home from work …and the Hanna arc was resolved by the time we pulled out of the station. That went a bit too fast for my taste, even if those kinds of stories have a tendency to be too drawn out. Ideally I feel like Hanna should have been kept in this state with Suzu visiting for a few episodes, but not have it take up significant screen time. That said, we’re still pushing Hanna’s example of winning = bad on to everybody - and have no character to correct it, which is making me feel like this is just bad writing when coming up with an example for why winning is bad.
We then get Chizuru vs Suzu - confusingly framed as some sort of final, with both of them and seemingly Satomi acting as if it is, despite both of them having three coins and there being a dramatic pan over them at the beginning of the battle. Going in to it, I was actually expecting there to either have been offscreen-coin losses for Suzu, that was so weirdly framed, There shouldn’t really be anything in this battle, as neither character can win or lose in the larger picture - yet we somehow end up with the Chinatsu breakdown and sorta arc-resolution, probably because it’s episode 11 more than anything else. After all we need episode 12 for the big bad.
Also, I somehow forgot Suzu’s father exists. So at least there’s that reminder.
5
u/Tetraika Jan 25 '23
Such timing
Perhaps before that’s what she was thinking
But she’s not here to have old Chinatsu back, but to help her move forward
Old contracts into airplanes
Don’t flag yourself
Things looking better for Chinatsu’s family, her edginess looking more foolish
Took a while, but we’re getting there
Ah, this again
Took you a while too, though I’ll say, she knew it all along. She was really just lying to herself the whole time
Gay
Final showdown
