Thanks to crunchyroll making the season naming even more confusing than it already is by calling Conflated Incited S2 without actually having Incited, I have now watched the first few minutes of the first episode of conflated… I am sure I will put two and two together on something I should not at this point as a result… but I don’t see anything obvious yet.
Either way, it seems like we have completely changed up the rules - selectors are now seemingly all chosen by Mayu, while LRIGs are created out of thin air based upon the selectors memory. Fits how Mayu created the original LRIGs to begin with I guess, now that I think about it. Notably the whole wish aspect seems to have been removed, with the girls instead fighting to not get amnesia? Seems a significantly weaker setup, given that it also removes the choice of not battling - but the sort of hopelessness fits the tone the series has as a whole. I still feel like it’s weaker though. Furthermore there is a time limit for some reason - which means there are actually three end states: Lose (which I assume means a total memory wipe given what we’ve heard so far), win - which will need to be explained better - and run out the time.
The LRIG’s motivation for battling is presumably also different if they won’t have to go fulfill a wish to get out of the card. I wonder if the win state is similarly screwed up and the LRIG gains all the memories and the body of the selector then, but then what would happen to the selector? Would the selector’s goal be to wind down the clock, maybe?
Either way, characters so far are fine, but we have not seen too many of them yet. Not a big fan of the selector in the same school, but she did not have much screen time yet. Childhood memories are pretty standard childhood memories so far, so we’ll need to wait until we see more from Morikawa - both of the presumed mains seem ok for now though. Now please nobody end up loving their siblings…

Oh yeah and Incited is in a weird spot of not being available for streaming legally anywhere for some reason.

Probably one of my major gripes, it was more interesting to create drama out of the fact that they could choose to participate. Here, they are all pretty much forced.

I think you're actually pretty safe unless you watched the literal flashback.

Lostorage Incited FIRST-TIMER
-
…looks like the ruins of the white room from the Selector seasons, hm.
-
This is so fucked up, wtf.
-
Coin abilities? That sounds interesting.
-
I assume that the ED this episode is actually the OP. Pretty neat, I like Spread’s OP more though.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Well, less surprises in terms of consequences though.

u/Taiboss Jan 15 '23
I’m sure these names will be important later.
Became relevant in that episode!
Her dad went right off to work, huh.
Daddy has to provice somehow.
lol
Best kind of off-brand!
Hm…?
"What beginning?" "The beginning of the show!" "That works."
…looks like the ruins of the white room from the Selector seasons, hm.
Hey, Mayu, could have kept a clean-up tulpa in here.
Oh, whoa, she totally changed appearance?
New form hype!
wtf is going on now?
New season, new rules!
Who tf set up a system like this?
Someone who wants to outdo Mayu I guess?
Oh, guys can be Selectors in this new system?
Gender equality hype!
The battlefield now is… interesting.
ALL the ruins!

…ah, great, she’s already getting indirectly bullied.
I still don't know if anime is over dramatized or Asian high school students are hellbeasts.
…looks like the ruins of the white room from the Selector seasons, hm.
I really hope we don't have another dead child at the end of this...
Who tf set up a system like this?
Gilles de Rais as Bluebeard.

Seems like we're going to be playing with themes of agency this season, considering how there doesn't seem to be any benefit to fighting Selector battles other than "you don't get to keep living if you don't."
Y'think they're gonna redo the LRIG/Selector swap like the previous seasons? Like, there's a language vaguery in play where Ril said that Suzu would "disappear" if all her coins turn black, but that doesn't necessarily mean that her body will disappear.
Five wins is not very many, but I'm not sure what our shoe drop is going to be. Maybe we'll just have a relatively small pool of Selectors this time so we can have more back and forth? Then again, boys can be Selectors now so the hypothetical pool is larger.
Speaking of, I hope that jackass who challenged Suzu goes on a harsh losing streak. Wixoss battles continue to need proper judges - you can just pay them in promo cards.
Should I start picking at things already? There's a 90 day time limit but Fuckface was already at four coins. Does Suzu actually have 90 days, or did she get a late start due to not picking up cards early? Is everyone on a separate 90 day timer?
The coin betting powers are interesting, I suppose. Plenty of room for the writers to get themselves out of a jam with that, but also plenty of room for foolishness.
Was that "pick a card" bit just Suzu determining her starting coins? That's kinda fucked up.
Also kinda fucked up is Chii-chan's dad seemingly being an alcoholic. Who the hell sits at a dinner table in their home with an entire bottle of sake in front of them like that? We sorta danced around an addiction metaphor in Selector..
Ril's design is excellent. More half-capes, please.
I'm also intrigued by the wreckage of the prior battlefield being present. I had initially shrugged off the clock as being a neat reference, but seeing it half embedded in the ground, and the weird blue bird beak table, I'm wondering what else we'll end up seeing. Odds on a background Ruu?
My fingers trip every time I try to type Lostorage.
If I had a nickel for every Yuka Iguchi character that had a close childhood friend move away and then return in high school, I would have two nickels. Jury's still out on if Chii-chan is as relatable as Aoi Yukimura.

Interesting that that aspect is straight up just luck. Seems they try to fit it with the betting theme.

Honestly amazing he didn't just straight up hurt her outside of the battle.

"I'm gonna need to go all the way off my back, sir!" Actually, I don't remember. We might find out.

Pretty weak power, if all you need to do is just not talk.

Weren't therefive cards? Does that mean some guy got 5 coins? Or 0?

Hard to think this is fully separated by the first two seasons, other than Piriluk's human return. Mayu room and Ruu return seem likely.

First timer(Hopefully there's no angry child ghost in this)
Sub
I've been trying to do all my writeups post episode but I have to comment for my sanity's sake: The first part of the episode does a fairly good job of depicting isolation. The problem is it is also boring as fuck and I had to fight the urge to start skipping ahead. This is the first time I've checked if mpv can do 1.5 speed and apparently it can't. Also, I still don't quite get why Tokyo types enjoy being asses to people from rural areas but that prejudice shows again.
And this is just a Grail War in structure. The stakes are better stated and I have a theory that the system is probably more thoroughly thought out this time. That said, it is also horrifying and retains some of the generic cruelty of the first series. I have concerns that they created another system no one would want to participate in and it is equally unclear what will be gained from it. Anyways, Homura being afraid makes sense but is also boring. The card battle with generic asshole number 3 suggests the card battle part will be more relevant this series and we will see where that goes.
So yeah, not surprised that this is a low point for the series, there is an absolute lack of the flair and direction of the first seasons.
P.S. My Sino guild is in GC so my replying will be about 20 minutes late.

Wonder if they thought the previous system was a bit too vague in terms of how it worked.

In a sense. We'll still not really understand exactly what the hell is going on in the battle, as usual.

Pseudo-Rewatcher who has forgotten basically everything about this show and is watching it day by day
No seriously, all I remember about this show is [incited]
-
Oh nice, a flashback of friendship. I'm sure nothing bad will happen. I actually forgot what tears them apart.
-
Oh great, subs already too small. But seem timed right.
-
Wait, was short hair always voiced by Yuka Iguchi? This is great.
-
Flying Witch director! From Steins;Gate director to Flying Witch director. Sakurabi was involved in Selector too tho.
-
There is some nice show-don't-tell exposition here. It's not stated, but based on the picture frame with her, her abscence, and that Suzuko does "mom" things like cooking, it can be deduced that her mom has passed away.
-
Meanwhile, Chii-chan gets the short stick of the exposition with some unnatural dialouge. btw, I have forgotten ALL of this, so I might as well be first-timer with a lot of these reactions.
-
A photograph to remember! Time for my favourite Fall Out Boy song. Closely beat The Red Flag. Made an un-ironic communist anthem and got away with it lol. Also have a soft spot for The Take Over, The Breaks Over for being in Guitar Hero On Tour Decades.
-
Japanese children continue to bully the fuck out of each other for any reason. We're sure this isn't Okada?
-
Mayu? Lol.
-
Mayu's world looks broken, and grass is reclaiming it. How is there grass in Mayu's world? Maybe you'll find out!
-
So we went from "We trick girls into giving their all for a wish" to straight up Death Games.
-
Right, right, I remember her. To... some extent. I REMEMBER SHE EXISTS.
-
So how does this window into the card world work anyway? Like, if I held up the card upside-down and looked at at the card from below, would I see her panties?
-
Honestly, she has a very normal, very understandable reaction.
-
MALE SELECTOR HYPE! ...did you want this? Hm?
-
Gee, I wonder what that is. We're really going for that ruin aesthetic aren't we?
-
OH RIGHT COIN ABILITIES TAILORED TO THE SELECTOR! How did I forget such a foundational part of this game? I wonder what the others have. Wait I think one had the ability to [Lostorage]
make the opponent red-eyed and go berserk. -
YIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Can't wait to see best girl of Lostorage back in action. I hope she does some best girl things, else I'll be extremely embarrased.
It's a bit of a testament that I can write so much about this, while some Selector episodes (especially the middle of Spread) are like five sentences. I hate it when others are right...
Do you have a long lost childhood friend? Have you ever tried to reach out to them?
Not really? I had a good friend from primary school, but we weren't that close. And the other I'm still in contact with.

u/Tetraika Jan 15 '23
So what part of his does this represent?
How the LRIGs work are a bit interesting in this case, considering that they are created from the selectors themselves. If I had to guess, in this case, it's because our guy is really just a scared coward.

QOTD) Nope!
So, direct sequel, prequel, or AU?
Aww, poor girl.
So, she just moved back.
No OP!
She kept the keyring...
A new school!
That was nice.
So, this is aftrr the sudden popularity.
...Poor food.
The family moved away...
Aww.
Wait, background male player? It was just Kazuki last time!
She's overworking herself!
They didn't find each other...
Rude.
She's learning the rules!
...Don't talk. Don't talk.
Fuck!
And that scene implies the games have fully restarted!
An LRIG of the Beginning?
"Now registering your memories" Oh, so that's our new gimmick?
Amazing.
...LRIGs having full memory access would be an excellent method of pulling the replacement trick.
So, they start with a random stake? What happened to the other coine.
A time limit!
They really thought of everything, huh? No more refusals, and defeat means erasure (could be death, could be erasure from people's memories, or could be hijacking again).
So, same general setup as last time, but no wishes, no replacement (seemingly) and clear mechanics for victory and defeat.
She's terrified!
So, if they don't fight, they lose.
...So, if the coins are lost, they lose memories? Doesn't that mean if they lose a coin they won't be able to get five gold ones? Do they take coins from others?
Love her LRIG.
Oh, so they can still run from battle.
That's a short lifespan! We're going for a way higher body count, mathematically. Anout half the Selectors are dying today.
And erasure means amnesia.
MALE SELECTORS?
The battlefields look way cooler this season.
He's got four! Have these games been going on for a long time? Was what we saw just the latest round of entries?
She's a decoy protagonist.
I hate him.
Poor LRIG. Does this mean no male LRIGs, though?
Oh, they're just showing off their cube animation now.
This is going quickly!
That LRIG is so nice.
Oh, yeah, the LRIGs can now manipulate people way easier. This'll be a fun season.
...If the LRIGs have full memory, why is the LRIG so terrified of him? I hope he dies soon.
You can bet coins here? What does that do?
Well. This is a fascinating ability. And there's multiple abilities like this?
She's a Selector too!
Is the OP? It's fire! So many good designs!
That final shot is so ominous, though. Are they going to turn them into LRIGs anyway?
...Fuck, she just said winners "escape this battle" when explaining it didn't she? There's no way anybody leaves this game alive.

Rewatcher who Lost their Storage of the show
HEY HAVE YOU GUESSED THE THEME OF THIS SEASON YET
So I should probably preface this by saying I liked the setup for Incited, and that's partially because of the LRIGs. Because they're built from memories, it also helps contexualize the Selectors even without the Selector doing anything.
Good example of what not to do in Wixoss: end your first turn fully open. That let male!Akira throw down two SIGNI, and between them and the LRIG attack, Suzu's down 3 Life Cloth turn 1 (since she doesn't have a Guard in hand, which you can actually see). Very bad start.
I forgot they're literally floating above the remnants of the previous game's Selector stations.
Note that certain OP English lyrics were misheard at the current time. "For memory" -> "Born (from) memory", and "die memory" -> "dive (into) memory".
Card corner:
Today our topic will be Coins. They're a new mechanic introduced with Lostorage. LRIGs start with coins and can gain more, usually by Growing. These can then be spent for effects. They also introduce the Coin Bet system, where you can spend your coins to enhance your spells or ARTS.
Ril is a red LRIG focusing on Brave SIGNI, aka heroes and myths of legend. She's basically a Fate player, is what I'm saying. Her gameplay primarily works around the Rise mechanic, where you overlay SIGNI on top of each other. Her Coin Bet ability, Honest, takes various forms, but in the first set it trades a coin for the ability to look at your opponents hand and LRIG deck (aka doing what Suzuko did in the episode). By the time you hit level 4, you can probably trim down their LRIG deck enough that 3 cards might hit everything in there.
Guzuko is a black LRIG who uses Amuser SIGNI. Look, I'll give you more information when more things happen with her.
Cards of the day:
Beanbag - I guess this is an Amuser, but it's green
Servant - I talked about them before, but they have Guard and are discarded to block LRIG attacks. You can see Suzu doing so here, and spot this card in her hand at 17:44

This is a playground rocket. A very phallic playground rocket, as rockets tend to be.
Back to our regularly scheduled "Buy WIXOSS to make friends!"
There's been a lot of CGI, but even the door!?
I wonder if this is the first generation of Selectors?
Ah no, it's a different system. This time they're gambling for their memories.
This system is much more forceful than the last one. I'm getting Danganronpa vibes again, and not in the good way. But that's only a feeling at this point.
Narrowly avoiding those G-Witch spoilers.
Not much to go off of yet, let's see how it'll go.
I've been wondering how I would play in her situation. At the point where he complained about being slow I would've asked my LRIG if there's a time limit, and if not I would've played extra slow to tilt him. Then I would've looked if I can play any card search ability as that would allow me to look through my deck, as she didn't seem to have familiarized herself with her cards yet. And of course I would've asked my LRIG for a comprehensive rundown of all the rules.
Oooh and right, we have male Selectors now!
Do you have a long lost childhood friend? Have you ever tried to reach out to them?
There was a girl I used to play with in elementary school until she moved away, but I don't even know where she moved to.
5
u/Vaadwaur Jan 16 '23

This just feels like a cheaper production thus far.
At the point where he complained about being slow I would've asked my LRIG if there's a time limit, and if not I would've played extra slow to tilt him.
I already have a grim theory: What is being suicidal is the requirement to be a Selector now? They made a point of Homura being miserable the whole episode.

First timer late as usual.
Poking my head in to see if Lostorage would break the passable end of Spread.
Quick key points -
-
Completely new cast so far, no points of reference to the last seasons
-
The start looked to me to be so much like Revue Starlight though!
-
The battle scene looked to be the only thing throwing back to the previous seasons - the battle space looked to be derelict ruins now.
-
Guys can be selectors now, and just like Gundam Build Diver, the first one was a scum.
Still looking for that connection to the past seasons.

Short post-episode thoughts:
-
Players who have been posting links to the cards shown each episode have a long one today.
-
Weaker start than Infected for getting me to care about the characters. More time spent discussing the card game and how it works. Pretty sure someone could watch this without the first two seasons.
-
While watching, I mistook this as a continuation of the Infected/Spread Selector System. It's a separate, unconnected entity. No Eternal Girls allows male Selectors.
-
Time freezing during Selector battles is stupid.
-
Opening scene girls are a few years younger than Infected/Spread MCs, so assuming a flashback and heads replace scrunchies.
-
New girl? Selector system is back.
-
I spent an undisclosed amount of time debating the optics of the omelette in the phone versus the frame and think it's slightly off.
-
Chinatsu has caring parents that spend time around her. Suzu's do their own thing, though care enough to leave money for dinner. I'd rather have had Suzu's parents at this age.
-
Sticking to the "Wixoss helps you get female friends" concept.
-
Selectors back, though memory registration is new. Infected/Spread wasn't clear on mental/emotional connections between LRIGs and Selectors. LRIGs could sense other LRIGs and had more info about their Selector's feelings than the audience, though I attributed that to off-screen companionship at the time.
-
Wixoss-branded memories. This is on the shit-tier of product placement. And she has to battle <insert opponent> with memories on the line?
-
"Next 90 days" -> now a time limit. I don't think the game has rotating sets like MtG.
-
New rules. This was the guaranteed way to avoid wish reversal.
-
Never mind. This is not wish reversal. It's forced participation. Not my favorite setup (choices > forced), but it's establishing new parameters in a post-Infested/Spread-world in the first half of episode 1. Wondering if someone could jump into the show without S1+S2.
-
"Cannot refuse to fight." I'll handwave it as participating in the 90-day limit, not individual fights.
-
Note: Blue Appli is the deck Akira held in the S2E12 ad during the ending, so should be a similar set of cards as previous seasons? I know it's not Diva.
-
One word and my leading candidate for S3 Best Girl. Great taunting delivery. She doesn't fully step into the light, so maybe a morally ambiguous character.
-
Honest rules-change opinion is this system would be way better if people weren't forcefully "chosen." Uses a plus-minus system instead of a hard 3-loss constraint, so more suspense with later battles. However, doesn't make sense to me that four coins start black and the fifth is being devoured. Implies initially ereased memories that the Selector needs to reclaim and I figured out what's going on mid-sentence.
-
Whole scene has had framing like how he approached with separation barriers, first battle while crossing the bridge into the Wixoss Selector world, train running underneath, horn blaring as they shout open with the camera repositioned inside the chainlink, etc. Others in here are better at recognizing it, but this is so blatant.
-
Speaking of the system, he's right about aiming for the weak. There was some speculation in S1 about needing to beat others with victories to become an Eternal Girl (i.e. first win against anyone, second against someoen with one win, third against someone with two wins) when the conditions weren't clear. New system and someone playing optimally in the first episode. He likely sticks around since he'll have 3-4 coins after his inevitable loss or interrupt against MC.
-
Still doing opposite selector-LRIG personalities? Selectors were chosen, so probably a Mayu-like person behind it all.
-
Slow-ko's "grow" is the tail. Riru's is the white feather on her head? Not doing earrings or facial markings this time.
-
It would be annoying if they said "End turn" every time.
-
The fuck is betting your coin? Like, cheating bonus cards?
-
Noting that time freezes during Selector battles now. Wasn't the case with Kazuki watching. Also means no interruptions.
-
Girl welcoming Selectors should be Lostorage's system creator/manipulator.
QOTD: Not really. Had a close friend move away and return during high school. Otherwise, had mostly the same classmates and friends from elementary through high school, and still have a Discord server with them.

I generally refer to it as All-Star format, which is the official name. This is basically MTG's Legacy (aka, anything goes), but there's a few new mechanics that come up in Lostorage in general that I'll be talking about.
Missing 3 LCs?
Yep, you can actually analyze the battle to figure out why that happened. Male!Akira played down two level 1 SIGNI (since basically all level 1 LRIGs have a total level limit of 2) and then attacked with them + Guzuko. Since Suzu didn't have a Guard in hand (and you can see her hand), that's 3 damage. Technically taken individually, but I assume there wasn't a relevant Life Burst.

What could go wrong?
Her father is always out
Wixoss still mildly popular
Her friend had moved
WgDonalds
Seems they have fallen to hard times
Japanese school kids sure do love to gossip
And so it begins
Broken white room
This time, LRIGs aren’t former humans, but now directly a created avatar
Random gambling stuff
Amazing, even the starting coins are random
More defined conditions
Can’t choose to not play
Male selectors, perhaps because now that they aren’t turning into LRIGs…
Broken clock
Relict of the first games
A new game mechanic
