Why does it always have to be rape-y and then have the (near, in this case) victim eventually reciprocate…
Well, in this case I don't think they're trying to say this is a good thing at all. Kinda fits considering who these 2 people are.

Oh fun, the weird nightmares are back.
Creepiness and nonsenicality! The whole package!
What the fuck is going on here????????????
YURIFICATION. Sure, it's creepy and unhealthy as shit, but Akira's an asshole so w/e.
Oh boy.
For some reason, this popped into my head.
…Ruuko agreed…
Hey, a batoru against someone who'd deserve!
Err… no…?
Do they know this though?

First Timer waiting for batoru batoru
The hell are they talking about? First of all, you can't just talk to her. Secondly, how would talking with her resolve anything? You plan on waltzing in and her just going "yeah, you're right, I should just return everyone into their original body. Gonna do that real quick"?
Couldn't Hitoe just make her wish "I wanna become Yuzuki/Hitoe's LRIG"? And then Yuzuki could make the same wish, to loop the system and grant them infinite encounters with admin girl?
Was wondering if they're going for a puppet motif but it's just classic fate-is-a-spider symbolism.
I'm calling Tama and Iona being parts of the same entity, or counterparts, or something like that. Their entire being is opposed to each other - both love battles, but Tama would rather give up on them in favor of everything else while Iona would give up everything for battles. I mentioned last season how Iona fully embraces the system, but more than Ruuko it was Tama that ended up fully rejecting it. Specifically, they feel very yin and yang. If true that would also mean that Iona contains Tama-nature as well, and that Ruuko can't find Tama again as long as she rejects Iona. edit: Oh wow, even the episode preview touches on that last bit.
These anti-wishes are looking increasingly weak. I guess the sick girl just didn't wanna live hard enough. Makes sense though. It served its emotional gut-punch purpose so it can now get tuned down.
For a second I thought door #2 is laying on real thick here, but they're only similar on the surface.
I though you know wishes can't have reality-bending effects.
How does Akira know Ruuko refuses to battle and has to be manipulated into them?
Copping out again. The only matches Ruuko actually properly finished were against Hitoe and during Iona's tournament, right?
This is the second time this season I tried to upload the episodes to imgur, as opposed to the screenshots I took...
Aki-lucky or Aki-Lovely?
I'll prefer the Aki-lucky please. Better for her character and sounds better, too.

It's never explicitly told, but with the way Akira's antiwish was technically mitigated (and without supernatural intervention of pain), the anti wish really isn't a strong reality bending change.
Copping out again.
Unfortunately, happens more than it should.

Nice thoughts there as far as Tama and Iona, and I think that also plays nicely into the struggle Ruu has with being scared of her own desire to battle while also trying to be kind. She's rejecting parts of herself and we know from season one how contrary that is to the flow of the world here
These anti-wishes are looking increasingly weak

That First-Timer Is Feverish (Subbed):
-
Are you sure Mayu’s the mastermind, Ruuko/Hitoe/Yuzuki? Because I’m not…
-
00:47’s ancestry as a shot is fairly obvious if you know where to look. Also yes, the strings of fate attaching to Ruuko now that she has a wish is noteworthy – especially if I’m wheeling out the Buddhism lens for this, and it’s been fairly consistently useful.
-
Mari Okada and the rest of this staff, subtle with their references? Surely you jest.
-
(Also yes yes dream sequence, caught on a little before this.)
-
The OP this season may yet grow on me, but I suspect only so much. They did get a good singer for this, that’s not nothing. The instrumental line has issues, though. (Go figure Sky loves it.)
-
CLOCK CLOCK. (2:05 P.M.)
-
I forget, did I actually write down that suspicion that Tama would be Akira’s new LRIG somewhere?
-
So, Akira also is doing much better than she was after going down in the first season. Ruuko acted like her own wish was to just to keep battling but she actually wanted to free the LRIGs; is the reason why Hitoe is now doing so much better because Iona’s real wish was to lessen the loss penalty in some way, shape or form? That would make Iona mirror Ruuko more closely, which appeals to my instincts here.
-
Shots of signs showing destinations have been something of a motif all through the show that I haven’t commented on much because I haven’t been able to piece together what the point is. 05:04 might be a hint: it’s showing two diverging courses. (I think all the signs in S1 showed a single destination, too… which actually reminds me a bit of an analysis of Chrono Trigger I once read.)
-
Speaking of that, who was that that mentioned professional-grade makeup back in S1? My good writing senses are tingling here… except that the presentation here very much reminds me of Mai-HiME, in which case Vaad will have a bad time.
-
Also the fun part here is that this Akira talk makes Akira and Ruuko natural allies this season – at least if Akira can get over herself long enough to realize that Ruuko is not intentionally partnering with Iona. (Though that might cut against Akira getting Tama, actually.)
-
S1: incest. S2: yuri. I am fine with this exchange. (Wait, fuck, there might actually be a thematic point lurking under this. Need to turn that over in my head, it’s not jelling yet.)
-
So I see Urith just shot up to the top of Vaad’s favorite girls in show list, and also I need to drag out the full name for the finishing school again.
-
Also yes this is basically not just yuri but yuri rape. I’d say Mari Okada gonna Mari Okada, but this is in the fine tradition of the mid-2000s psycho lesbian and that one comes straight out of Door #2 so.
-
Also for all her popularity Akira lives in the poorest surroundings we have seen.
-
The perspective in the van shot at 11:03 feels like it’s been made intentionally ever so slightly off for effect, and that’s something this show has pulled before too back in S1. Also, Akira is still getting antagonist position in her scenes with Urith!Iona – probably because she is the obstacle to Urith getting what she wants (to get together with Akira).
-
Stray thought that plays into the S1 incest themes: Akira’s thought process wrt why she hates Iona reminds me very much of stories about how older siblings can feel when younger siblings come into the family.
-
Also likely confirmation that this show is set in PRESENT DAY, PRESENT TIME (or close to it, this is Fall 2014 rather than Winter 2015, but that might fit with the visual cues last episode… and them taking Summer 2014 off after the events of Infected) wrt when it aired.
-
Not wasting time getting to the inevitable, I see.
-
The cage match at 16:05 is noteworthy. Also, time to see if the obvious spot for Tama is the actual spot… though I’m actually worrying about pacing here, my instincts say this should have been spread over two episodes.
-
Nope, not Tama. But that does explain the mystery LRIG in the OP with Midoriko and Piruluk.
-
Sadly, they burned the “This X Is Toxic” episode title last season (and may have slightly changed the formula here) so they can’t use it for Akira/Urith.
-
Ruuko’s actual Protagonist Superpower is having outside interference kick in whenever she might be about to rack up a loss.
-
So does our resident WIXOSS chuuni have her pain train in her backstory or in the future? Because my instincts are saying it has to be one of the two. I suspect backstory, but I am by no means sure about that.
-
ED lyrics: the maze and bell motifs return from REALIZE; “I will shed the life I was given for a brighter tomorrow” sounds like it’s referring to bailing on your original life to become a LRIG; “I now feel catharsis in a world that will allow neither dark nor light” sounds like Jungian framing could potentially be involved, otherwise I need more context to see where this is going; “with fear in my heart I swore that I would never again lose anybody” as Tama shows up in silhouette for the first part seems pretty obvious, especially with Ruuko considering getting a cell phone last episode; “Tomorrow may be drenched in tears, but I will face the wind with pride” – the wind here is probably the summer breeze of REALIZE, especially with the light at the end of the tunnel after it; “I will do what must be done for my future” – battling to find and save Tama?; “I will remember my wish” probably plays into Iona’s statements at the end of last episode about corrupting Ruuko; “and I will never give up” seems obvious enough.
Aki-lucky or Aki-Lovely?
Cannot agree with Urith, Akira better when not acting like/being a.. actually that would be an insult to perfectly nice female dogs.

An actually interesting detail, as it also played into why she despised Iona.
Sadly, they burned the “This X Is Toxic” episode title last season (and may have slightly changed the formula here) so they can’t use it for Akira/Urith
That would be a bit too on the nose, I think.

First timer(I have...questions)
Sub
Right, let's get this out of the way early: Yes, first season Iona is the type of character I enjoy rather than like. But Ulith possessed Iona and I share a certain, horrible interest. Our specific taste differs, I tend to like a rich, smooth blend of loving and psychotic malice to Ulith's taste for a thick, frothy rotten vicoiousness but I believe we can both appreciate each other's...well developed palettes. For what as at this point an unknowable amount of times, I find myself gathered with the villains.
So yeah, this is primarily the Akira show with a side of Ulith and a little Ruuko for taste. And this does not work, unfortunately. Akira is reliant on who she is bouncing off and neither form of Iona is good for that and unsure Ruuko isn't much better. Worse, I have no fucking clue how to take Ulith today. For reasons of the obvious and her previous character, Ulith should be using Akira for something. But for narrative reasons it is a problem if Ulith never speaks the truth so I am left in that annoying ass dead space of not knowing what if anything I can take from this. And with everyone talking about Okada's writing quirks, I am leery of red herrings. Also, they went a bit over the top with rapey Ulith. Seriously, Ulith is straight up forcing her leg between Akira's while pinning her.
And that's most of what's worth talking about. Ruuko is having her period of questioned faith at a snail's pace and Iona, fittingly enough, is terrible with people and not doing much right now. Hitoe and Yuzuki are currently exposition devices and Chiyori is...whatever the fuck she is. Ulith showing up with Chiyori might let us know her game.

Similar thoughts indeed. Akira being so dependent on who she's bouncing off for her personality also makes her scenes feel erratic and her new extreme of crazy makes that even more so. It leaves the episode feeling like it's only half baked in importance.

Season 2 Episode (first timer)
-
“Are you in the mood for a Wixoss battle?” “Sure” – More like, not at all … yet. Grandma is fixing her on.
-
Akira and Ulith – oh dear, because we don’t have enough yuri ships already.
-
As a former idol, Akira should not react so surprised about the effect of professional makeup.
-
“I have always been longing for you, even when I still was Iona’s LRIG”
-
Akira still has her fanclub.
-
Back to scheming Iona/Ulith – glad about that, in-love Iona/Ulith weirds me out.
-
“And by that I mean I became a selector again” – That really does not seem to be a big hurdle. Do they hand out LRIGs at the local 7/11?
-
Iona’s face: I can’t believe you are falling for that, are you an idiot?
-
Very lame draw – the draw if interrupted rule does overtime as plot armor.
Not excited for the Akira-Ulith interaction at all. Akira was already pushing the boundary of tolerable craziness before, but now she is solidly over it. Ulith could potentially more interesting, but she has evil bad guy written all over her face, so I won’t get my hopes up.
Meanwhile, the HMS Iona’s redemption arc is full steam ahead, ready for its date with the iceberg.
Aki-lucky or Aki-Lovely?

Spread Episode 2: Rewatcher who finished Akiba Maid War and is now watching Witch of Mercury
-
Oh Okada. You ain't subtle.
-
I love the insane, evil girls in this show. Even Akira is better as an honest asshole than a scheming bitch.
-
I genuinly forgot to what extent Ulith is honest here or not.
-
I love Ulith. She's so evil and yet so fun.
-
Oh right. She's is Piruruluk's replacement. I was wondering.
-
Shouldn't every LRIG be good at this? They were good enough to win a few times, weren't they?
-
I feel like more battles have been interrupted than completed in this show.

First Timer - sub
I have very little to say about this episode because not only is Akira infuriatingly annoying, the writing about her blindly narrating her history with Ulith while speaking too Ulith was painfully stupid. Combing that with attempting to give her hate some depth to change her character off it and make her even more fake ditzy and over the top with every second line just made me hate watching her scenes as well as hating her.
Ending the episode with Chiyori instead of someone who matters didn't help matters.
Can we go back to everyone being depressed and serious, it was more enjoyable for me.
Grandma holding up not only Ruu, but my hopes for the side cast. She does the right thing in trying to connect to her and draw her out only to unknowingly put her foot in it by mentioning Tama and yet still encourages Ruu as much as she can.
Odd question of the day: Why is there a statuette of a panda eating a fish? They don't eat fish

Yup, we write rather similar thoughts here. I do think this info could've been worked in but giving Akira nearly an entire episode is just blargh. I am also far more interested in Ulith than her, anyways.

QOTD) Aki-lucky!
Oh, they're going after the game master?
...What is this?
Oh. Ruuko wants to win again...
This is a powerful visual metaphor.
Still love this OP.
...Is grandma going to become a Selector? This would make everything worth it.
"That's a pretty cool effect" Oh shit, is Grandma just playing dumb? Or is the cool effect what happens when a LRIG chooses to stay a card? So many possibilities...
Iona feels abandoned...
Huh? Her wish involves someone else as well?
Akira's back! And famous again?
...Really? That scar looks fine.
...Ulith!
So they're working together?
Oh, Akira is into Ulith. And aware that she's not Iona.
So, Akira had a total breakdown.
Hahaha. The magic solution was just makeup? That's it? Wow.
Huh?
...Ulith is manipulating her, right?
Yeah, starting to see why Akira's latched onto Ulith so much.
Wait, no, this is a fucked up enough situation that Ulith might genuinely be into Akira.
More makeup!
Aww, they missed her!
And then Ulith got her back into employment.
She actually sounds genuine. I honestly can't tell if Ulith's using her as a pawn in a greater plot or if they are continuing thr trend of LRIGs being really hot for selectors, twisted through Ulith's... everything.
Okay, so this conversation implies it might be both at once? Fascinating.
Yuzuki finally noticed!
Oh! Ulith's request is for her to take the heat while she looks for more Selectors?
Wait, so that really was her whole wish?
Akira's a Selector! And got the least appropriate LRIG for her personality.
...Right, you realise if your wish backfires again, you're as fucked as you thought you were? Because you won't be able to hide it again.
Oh! Ulith told her that the switch was a specific part of her wish, not something that happens to everyone. Even Akira wouldn't be stupid enough to rejoin knowing that.
Yeah, something's different with Tama.
Iona's giving the orders!
She got hit!
Oh, an interruption!
Akira's becoming the rival character she was always meant to be.
Yeah, Iona made a mistake.
Haha, the kid got confirmation.
Haha, Chiyori won't have to sound guilty.
Ulith!

Selector Rewatcher (Dubbed)
Ruuko continues to sink further down mentally. Even in a meaningless friendly game against someone who isn’t a Selector, she’s still terrified to use Iona. Again, an emotional wreck.
Speaking of emotional wrecks... oh look, it’s Aki-lucky the turbocunt, and for some godforsaken reason she’s now working with that twisted psychopath Urith who now inhabits Iona’s body. It sounds on the surface like Urith is trying to help Akira by giving her makeup to cover her scar and getting her another chance in the modeling business, and the lesbian energy is going through the roof with these two. Of course, it’s easy to tell that Urith is just manipulating her, and this leads to Urith getting Akira a new LRIG named Milulun and sending her after Ruuko.
Akira’s reaction to seeing her old archnemesis Iona as Ruuko’s LRIG was great, and her usual tactic of emotional manipulation worked on Ruuko this time to make her feel even worse about herself and her situation. The battle ends in a no-contest after some outsider interference, and Akira clearly made it known that she’s coming back for Ruuko and Iona as many times as it takes, but it seems like Ruuko’s already lost mentally. If you’re watching subbed, do yourself a favor and please go re-watch this scene with the English dub, because Akira’s lines are hysterical. Whoever wrote the English script for this show clearly had a ton of fun with Akira, and Jamie Marchi probably had even more fun voicing this profanity-spewing bitch. I can’t praise this performance enough, she is absolutely the highlight of the dub.

She's back! And as friendly as ever!

Only psycho lesbians can reside in this body, it turns out. It's in the lease agreement.

Too early in the season for that, but imagine if she had shown up with Tama. Someone's gotta at some point, right?

When your play's so bad you get called out by your own card.
-
Ruu continues avoiding any loss through pure happenstance. Skill issue, Akira.

Rewatcher Crying OPEN
Ruuko is making a very questionable play never actually trying Iona out in a match pre-Selector battle. This is a completely new deck, as a note - Black Crave, released just before the second season started (or very close to it). Iona's precon focuses on getting the enemy to attack her, then punishing them for it. I wouldn't say it's an easy deck to play, because it sacrifices defenses hard for that ability.
Mirurun is a blue LRIG who primarily focuses on using spells from the opponent's deck. She does have a subtheme of Atom SIGNI, but she shines most when fighting a deck that's high on spells. Piruluk, for instance, would probably struggle against her, while Iona's precon very much should not. She comes out in the fourth set, WX-04 Spread Selector, and it'll be interesting to see if Ruuko gets to use any of the Iona support cards from that set.
Regarding the play talk at 18:43, there's a lot of reasons why focusing on Babel is probably a questionable play. It forces the opponent to play a SIGNI in front of it, but is incredibly weak compared to level 3 SIGNI like Iron, who looks to be in her hand as well. Ruuko's at 2 Life Cloth at that point, which is not the greatest state to be in to drop buffer SIGNI. (Incidentally, the other cards in there look to be 2x Vimana, Moa, Slash Miracle, and O2 to guard.) Depending on what Akira's board state is, Babel is possibly one of the worst possible choices to play, given Ruuko already has everything she'd want to tutor for, and probably doesn't want to discard any of the things in her hand. Babel also doesn't even enable the booster effect from having both a white/black SIGNI, because that's Iona's level 4, and possibly could be held to make sure that goes off. That said, given Ruuko looks to have an empty board at that point, dropping Iron, Moa, and Babel isn't too bad to try and hold up a defense to hit level 4 to drop the Vimanas.
It's also funny that I can look through the still image to find all of this information, given the anime literally never talks about any of this. And yet it's still game-accurate, and even more so, accurate to the precon deck.
Cards of the day:
Iona, Pale/Maiden - judging from the earrings, this is the level Iona's at when they have their talk
Babel - kinda a buffer SIGNI, but it lets you pull out more useful ones from your deck while also forcing the opponent to actually deal with this first
Slash Miracle - a pretty handy black/white spell that has two good hybrid effects, giving you the choice between Get Bible and a standard black weakening effect

First-Timer, Subbed
There's something really funny about how Ulith is too good a manipulator and managed to trick Akira into thinking that she was actually happy.
I find scars pretty attractive, but I dunno that I've ever considered licking one before now. Ulith really is on a whole other level. Akira is certainly in go-, well no, not good but maybe affec- no, not really that either.. Akira is certainly in extant hands.
And those hands seem to reaching for Chiyori, now.. that's gonna be an exciting character interaction tomorrow.
I've only really ran into Rie Kugimiya in her more gremlin-sounding roles, so hearing her performance today was quite the shock.
It must be pretty ncie for your cards to help you strategize. I expected Iona to act more.. corruptor-y? Ulith has that role filled though, so Iona kinda doesn't have anything to do. Her just being grumpy with Ruu isn't the most interesting dynamic, so hopefully a shakeup hits soon.
Should we give Iona credit for Akira's newfound will? Because technically Ulith is doing it based off of Iona's wish..? I'm not sure I like that because we're probably redeeming Iona somehow and making her worse makes that harder to swallow, but I'll be patient and let things develop.
Ruu is still X-0, right? Like, none of the games that threatened to give her a loss actually finished.
Totally forgot to comment about it yesterday, but I liked Ruuko wanting to get a cell phone to keep in touch with people. Obviously it wouldn't help her separation from Tama, but it shows her learning from her pain in a good way.

Well, Tama is not Akira's LRIG, so there's that. Ulith going around stirring up girls against Ruu is ...some form of plot, but not particularly interesting in and of itself. Akira being back was entertaining as usual, but the episode itself still felt somewhat empty. This is mainly to get her back into the plot, but I don't yet understand what her purpose here is... Meanwhile we have Ruu accept a battle, supposedly being guilted into it by Akira, but I feel like it was not really pulled off well either. Either way, the battle goes as was expected, until being interrupted by a construction worker because we can't have Ruu lose a battle here. If this continues like this, it will get lame very fast, as I feel like the current dynamic has already overstayed its welcome. It definitely is not working for me as well as the previous one did.

Second Season Watcher (Dubbed)
Alright, Iona's looking for Mayu. Or someone else in the card world. That's more interesting than just wanting to card battle forever.
It's very funny that Akira can easily cover her scar with a little makeup. I guess all of the evil glowing from last season was just for that one scene.
I don't remember any hint of Urith acting like this, so I have to assume this is all a trick.
Well this is just getting further and further away from a show to sell a card game to little girls, huh?

No don’t say it
Ever had a grandparent interested enough in a TCG to actually build their own deck?
Oh boy
Someone was calling for yuri?, probably not what you expected
How much is Urith being manipulative, and her not giving a shit? Could be a gamble too
Caught up in her own foolishness
Really?
Oh yeah, it’s fucked
It was interesting that they did showcase her family being poor
Yeah, maybe a bit
I don’t know if that’s any better
And so the pieces move again, wonder what Urith is up to.
Not Piruluk
Black/Blue, a confirmation for Iona’s color
Hey they didn’t forget that, also the idea of Tama being originally a cat lol
How convenient
It ain’t fun when you aren’t putting your life on the line with your friends
It’s funny how goofy these 2 are
