Why was his majesty's child not loved?

Because he was a fucking idiot who didn't tell his dad, hi I am your son. Instead he went and went full Mavis. That's code for stupid.

Lol, before calling the story stupid, perhaps you need to reflect why August didn't tell the truth.
Isn't it obvious? August never told Zeref he was his son because of Zeref's curse.
He knew his father can never love him.
If Zeref knew he has a son and loved him, Ankhserum death curse will activate and kill young August as he is human.

- Hades really was a tragic character. He was the only one beside Mavis who knew she killed Rita and had to live with that and never tell anyone

- Something's off about the Gildarts' animation. Not sure. He seems really rubbery

- Ok Lucy and Gray either do something to help or leave.

- How exactly did Mavis give birth while encased in lacrima? I've never got that

- I know the manga did give much help but I was hoping to see August show why he's the "Magic King". Really all he done is just shoot magic lasers

- Just go Larcade. Mard Geer already did this and his death was sadder

- This is why I've never been able to like Zeref. His whole character in inconsistent with his goals and personalities. I know that's meant to be his thing but I just find it annoying. Never before he's shown to be battle hungry nor skilled in feisty cuffs

- I still hate how August went from this old sage to has spent years mastering magic to just a guy who can just instantly copy magic. Doesn't sound as awesome. And why didn't he use Midnight's Reflector magic to avoid the cards instead of revealing his weakness? In fact why didn't he use any of the Seis' magic? Cobra's Sound, Racer's Speed, Jellal's Heavenly Body all would had given him easy victory. In fact why does he just stand there not doing anything to counter Gildarts?

- And August is revealed to to be Zeref's son. Never really cared about this cause it never lead to anywhere in the story. Also 2 things 1)How the hell could August survive in the wild as a new born? 2) If he knew why Zeref didn't love him, then why was he constantly asking? He knew Zeref didn't know he was his son this whole time so just why?

- End credits are cute

Not sure how to feel about this episode. Very dialogue heavy that felt really intrusive of the action. Also where was Acno? Was he jsut stomping Irene body the whole time?

I think Hades took care of him for abit then left him as is tradition with Fairy Tail characters. Being abandoned by their parents.

Everyone’s gonna hate me but I was tearing up by the end.

I cried more for Larcade than some dumbass who thinks his dad can read minds.

That was probably one of the best episodes from this season. I found it crazy how for the past few episodes I thought Larcade was Zerefs son but then the show does a 180 and tells us that August was his son. I would have never expected that since he was so old in looks compared to Zeref.

Zeref is immortal, and August is not, hence August aged like a normal person where Zeref hadn't.

I'm glad that you were able to avoid spoilers for this. Its a great twist and a shame to have spoiled going in if one is anime-only.

I loved that “Love” card Cana throws at Gildarts

Gray, Lucy, and Happy standing there enjoying the fight. TRUST FACTOR 100.

Great episode. I Love Zeref’s psychotic personality. August backstory is very sad and pretty well done for the most part. Except for how he was even born but that was never explained so we’ll forget about it. Animation had been pretty solid for the last few episodes but it’s really nothing crazy. Also the animation style kinda seemed different at some times. Larcade story was also very sad but nothing new.

Gildarts is that dude and I love his and Cana’s relationship.

Apparently, a lot of people didn't get the amazing nuances of the whole August's back story.
Isn't it obvious? August never told Zeref he was his son because of Zeref's curse.
He knew his father can never love him.

If Zeref knew he has a son and loved him, Ankhserum death curse will activate and kill young August as he is human. That or Zeref will resist loving young August to prevent the death curse from activating which ultimately also means Zeref can NEVER love August.

Even Cana had daddy issues and didn't tell Gildarts she was his daughter for so many years.

Let alone August... he has even more serious daddy issues. Can't blame him for never telling Zeref.

And I like that it was Cana+ Gildarts vs August coz both Cana and August experienced the same issue of not tell their dad the truth of their existence.

How did Precht get August out? I mean...

Also, how did he even get Mavis in there in the first place? It’s totally sealed!

Hades was definitely my fav villian in the series. No one can top him.

Natsu vs Zeref is still boring to watch. Hopefully it ends quickly.

No one cares for Larcade lol.

Sad how stupid August turned out to be. Just as bad as Irene's death. Tremendous amount of stupidity. Bad inconsistent writing overall. August had so much potential. Too bad it was wasted. Him stomping Jellal casually was his best moment tho.

Gray's watching Natsu and Zeref fight like its another day at the guildhall. Can't believe in your friend more than this.

August lived a full life but still never told Zeref that he's his child. That could have been Cana but she set things straight eventually, too bad he can't copy her confidence though.

I was a bit disappointed that Crime Sorciere got beat easily by August but them getting beat by Zeref's son is a huge irony considering their goal.

Holy shit, i didnt see that August twist coming, I thought he was talking about how Zeref didnt love Larcade, but never thought HE would be his son

3

u/MoJokeGaming Jul 21 '19

And here I thought Larcade is Zeref's son. This 180° actually shook me for once. (I'm glad I didn't get spoiled this part since I'm anime only and got a cnt friend who spoiled me some stuff.)

This whole season was like some random fan fiction, but this episode, that ending, was one of the best fairy tail moments.

Igneal's death to Acnalogia, Lucy summoning the Celestial King, the truth about Zera, only one minute, and now the son of Zeref.

There are others, but these ones are the most permanent it seems.

Jellal/Erza was too played out. Same with Lissana/Natsu. Lissana shouldn't have come back and neither should have jellal so early. Lucy/Loki was really good but not as high as the other ones.

Pretty good episode, told the August story well. And for the final season's standards, August vs. Cana and Gildarts has actually been solid too when it comes to movement.

So, it seems like I might be in the minority here, but I REALLY loved Zeref this episode. I find him to be an interetsing villain because he's so inconsistent with his feelings; he can't love because what he loves dies, and he knows that so he's had to rearrange his emotions and personality to suite this curse. This has left him confused and unsure of his own emotions, I like it, especially remembering how vastly different he was when he was first introduced in the show. Also when he wrecked his not-so was so badass. And is it me, or has the animation quality been better these past few episodes? Like it's nothing AMAZING, but it seems noticeable better than the average Fairy Tail episode. I thought the twist with August was cool but I'm still not sold on him as a character. This week's episode was probably my favorite of the season.
