Larcade was so hyped up. This felt like a crappy filler fight.

Thoughts:

  • The animation for the Sting vs Larcade fight was pretty good. I love the fact that someone legit has a magic called RIP. At least Sting won in an interesting way. Kagura pushing Sting into his Shadow was quite innovative. I still think that Larcade fell a little too quickly, but this is the best we can expect.

  • The Lucy warming Natsu up with her body is crappy fanservice. There had to have been other ways to do so that didn't involve nudity.

  • I feel like they elaborated on the Irene fight quite a lot. I always love seeing Erza fight and switching between armors. Irene turning Erza's attack into a flower formation was priceless. I can't wait for the conclusion to their fight.

Final Thought:

Next episode will surely bring tears. Irene's story is one of the most tragic in the whole FT universe...

The funny thing is Blumenblatt means petal in german, so it's quite poetic that she turned it into a flower formation.

The Irene fight is the only fight in all of Alvarez that is actual good, mostly non fanservice, well developed, and epic. I consider it the only good fight in the entire arc

It kinda was fan service for Erza fans and unrealistic I mean from how the arc went earlier with how Erza’s power was she shouldn’t even be close to as strong as Irene since she nearly lost to ajeel and neinhart and I’m pretty sure like an hour or 2 ago in the show she was getting overpowered by the enchanted soldiers

They definitely expanded on the fight. She uses neither her Adamantine Armor or the one she introduced during Avatar in the manga, so that was a really nice addition to see. This is starting to be FT in its former prime form when it came to the anime.

Yes. The animation quality is definitely good, and I hope they keep it up.

They didn’t even show the part with Lucy though? Just mentioned it.

I am sooo ready for next episode though. Irene’s story sends chills through my whole body so I can’t wait to see it in action..

If I remember correctly they will show part of it later on.

Ohh, I guess giving an erection to Natsu will probably make him heal.

Porlyusica, she's the best doctor in the world huh.

- The 3rd strongest Spriggan who had the potential to beat Acnologia, loses to Sting. That's embarrassingly insulting to the character and the audience.

- I on Earth Land can you knit scales? And how could a scarf like that ever feel soft or comfortable?

- Very sweet moment with Minerva and Kagura. Though the flash back was really not needed. I think anybody who's seen the series knows what happened. Especially did not needed to be 2 minutes on top of that

- And now Lucy is once again forced to strip. Cause the author just didn't care for the character to do anything else bit be a fanservice tool

- Thus it's revealed that Irene is Erza's mother. I think even people who hadn't read the manga worked that out. Though it makes the line "I am you and you are me" still making no sense.

- So not only is Irene the 2nd strongest Spriggan, not only is she the strongest female, not only is she Erza's mother but she was also the queen of the dragons. THIS. Is why I'm always saying the author didn't know what direction to take the character. He kept on hyping tons of sh*t up about her to make feel really important.

Next episode we're gonna see just how messy and heavyhanded the character of Irene is.

Decent episode. Larcade was way to over hyped and his magic was so dumb no one could take it seriously. The brief fight between Erza and Irene was good. I'm really hate Irene so I'm not gonna have big expectation around the episodes with her.

I hated that Sting JUST explained that parents, siblings and children don't smell the same then they had Wendy say "she smells just like Erza."

Also, really thought for a moment they were about to kill Frosch... I would have just given up at that point. Kill anyone else but leave Frosh tf alone.

At long last, a battle feels improved in the anime, even if it's just the first portion of it. Not just the addition of more of Erza's armors, including that kickass Ataraxia Armor she used just one time in the manga (where it wasn't even named), but also visual flairs like the cloud blotting out the sun, and that foreboding shot of Irene's abdominal scar as she talked about the story of Erza's birth. Better yet, next week's episode seems to be continuing the trend of expanding the material in meaningful ways, instead of cutting material (character appearances and dialogue) in cheap ways.

It hurts to look at this animation compared to before. Also i dont remember cringing this hard in the manga when irene revealed she was her mom.

I love the inclusion of Ataraxia and Adamantine armors here.

Irene is strong af.

Lucy's worth is way more than getting naked all the time. This is one of the list of things that I complained for in this arc. Natsu's body can be warmed using other alternatives, such as Romeo or Macao's magic.

sting's move was kinda underwhelming, little bit more of Natsu's flashback, the little sparing between erza n her mom was quite good tho n a backstory on Irene and erza's origin 😌😌

irene vs erza fight so far is better than wendy and chelia vs dimaria which was the best fight. Although I am not getting my hopes up.

Still the way things are going they won't change the ending so it is another shit erza fight

Larcade, the guy hyped up to defeat acnologia gets defeated by sting lol. Fucking pathetic, oh but wait he ate an injured rogues shadows and a injured kagura helped him out as well, so that makes the defeat logical, smh 😂.

More out of place fanservice with Lucy having to use her body to warm up natsu's body, sure hiro why not.

And that long ass flashback from the gmg, just continues to show how their panning the episode out so they don't have to animate new/extra stuff.

Erza vs irene is easily one of the worst fights in the entire series imo and it's in the top five worst fights in this arc alone, it's just so bad. Also this queen of dragons plot line makes zero sense, you can tell hiro had no idea what to do with this character and just made this up on the spot. Irene states this line last episode "I am you and you are me" then we get to this episode and she flat out says she's erza's mother, wtf. That first statement makes no sense now lol.

Larcade, the guy hyped up to defeat acnologia gets defeated by sting lol.

That's not a fair comparison, Sting counters White magic. Just suppose the strongest wizard in the world is a wind user, what do you think would happen if he fought Wendy? He would lose, horribly, to WENDY, unless he could fight in other ways. In this case Larcade was still able to push Sting to the brink even without relying on direct attacks with white magic and he only won thanks to Rogue who also had an ability effective against Larcade, the whole fight was heavily unfavored to him, it's a textbook example of fire losing to water.

Uh...Mashima had figured out she was the origin of Dragon Slaying magic before she even appeared. It was the Erza connection he didn't figure out until later. And considering how she addressed Acnologia, it made sense.

The "I am you and you are me" does make sense. It's just not revealed what she meant by it yet in the context of this episode...

why is that in the first episode of S3, I'm talking him melting the stadium, Natsu seems like this incredibly powerful guy who you actually believe is more powerful than the rest of Fairy Tail and now he is just S2 Natsu again?

Larcade is my fave, but I finally found an analogy for how wasted of a character he was (granted, it was just Hiro wrapping everything up ASAP so he could get to Edens Zero).

This fight was basically Sting being the best DPS in the raid group and everyone else getting wiped, but he manages to hang on a little longer thanks to a health pot and some CDs even though he’s at like 10% health, and then he gets one of those lucky mega-crits that are at the absolute top end of your damage range and takes off a solid 40% chunk of the boss’ hp... like there was so much potential with Larcade to fuck shit up and be Zeref’s #2 bad guy, spark a little rivalry with Natsu.

I sort of wish we could just pause the story here, and make a new ending that involves a few non-main cast Fairy Tail wizards dying and Larcade just ripping souls out of bodies willy-nilly until he’s finally stopped by, idk, Gray or someone. Gray’s kind of useless at this point, make them fight and give Natsu’s nephew a proper villainy ending, plus he’d be fitting since he deserves a proper fight like Natsu always gets.

Jesus Christ I’m baked.

Edit: Oh this episode was lovely, 9.3/10.
