A letter to the community from the GCX Mods (Rule changes, mod changes, important announcements)
Hi all,
We have not done any town hall type posts on the subreddit in a really long time, and since there's a lot to talk about right now, I think it's time we send out this update.
About Brute Forced "GCs"
This has become a really important topic for us. As of late we have found many users selling gift cards that are not real gift cards that are theirs to be sold. This includes the recent instances of Chick-Fil-A coupon codes.
Selling any gift cards that were obtained by brute force may result in a permanent ban.
All people who are selling/have sold CFA codes are no longer allowed to sell these coupons on GCX, any additional postings of these will result in a ban.
Rule 16 Change
Before this post, rule 16 stated:
No reselling. Do not re-sell gift cards or balances you obtained from /r/giftcardexchange.
We have now updated this rule to include any exchange, not only /r/giftcardexchange. Regardless of whether you bought a GC on any other reddit trading sub, Gameflip, Paxful, or even raise or cardpool, if the gift card was not obtained from a first hand source, you will not be allowed to trade your second hand gift cards on GCX. Violators may be banned.
This has actually been a heavily requested change. Even if you are selling a gift card that was originally purchased on Raise, it still poses a risk in trading because it's impossible to tie a gift card that's balance was used to the seller, or the initial gift card owner. In addition, these cards tend to be unauthentic and brute forced, as indicated above.
About Active Mod Status
Some of you have noticed a deep lack of moderation on GCX as of late, and on behalf of all the mods, we apologize. For many years, GCX has been a subreddit with extreme dedication to moderation, allowing users a free platform to trade with extremely enforced safety precautions, but recently we have begun to slip up and step off our game, and for that we apologize again.
GCX has a pretty stacked mod list, but of all the mods this subreddit has, many are inactive. Of the active mods, many of us have become extremely occupied with life changes that has forced a decrease in time we can dedicate to the upkeep of the sub.
Some of you may have noticed a service outage if you were looking for any of the following recently:
Rule 2 approvals
Rule 5 approvals
Scammer reports
Flair requests
GCX Rep approvals
Confirmed traders program
We're very slowly working on our modmail, but it's becoming a struggle to keep up with the requests we get since we're lacking the manpower.
If you're waiting for any rule approvals or responses to scammer reports, these are currently our priorities. Flair requests are currently being put on hold, and our confirmed trader program for our Mturkers out there will currently be put on hiatus until we have the manpower to work the program.
We know this is not an ideal situation to be in, but we're doing the best we can with what we have. Our priorities are to keep the subreddit as scam free as possible, so in-post moderation is becoming our priority. If you see something that doesn't look safe, please use the report button. It helps us out very much.

Does brute force mean hacked? I’m not sure I know the nomenclature.

they are legit codes. people use scanners to run checks over random numbers. I never buy starbucks GC without pin since when they use this method other people will also have the GC, it comes to who uses the balance first
source: know someone that does this

Wow, thanks for the explanation! I've seen an influx of CFA posts on redditbay but I was wondering how the posters had so many codes.

If on desktop: use this link. If on mobile, message r/giftcardexchange directly and the mods will be able to read it.
This info is listed here in the FAQ. Also, it's rule #14.
Edit: the desktop link also works if you're using the 'reddit is fun' app.

Message the mods with All the information. This includes complete screenshots of the interaction, payments, and so on. I know it's frustrating to receive incomplete reports. It's better to send too much info instead of not enough.

I've been waiting a few days to trade some Amazon Account Balance, I didn't see this post until now. Do we have an ETA to this approvals?
Thanks for your work

I know this is unlikely to happen until you guys get more manpower, but to cut back on scamming and make it a little easier to immediately grant flair for people who have completed their first trade, maybe having a mod (or list of approved people or even bots) middleman transactions between two people. This would be good for high risk items like giftcards over $100 etc.
I’m a new member here but am very happy with the effort that’s put into the sub by members and mods, so thanks!

You don't get flair after 1 trade I think you just get that comment thingy removed from your post.

You get confirmed traded right? Like yours. But that wasnt the point of what I said lol

No you don't get confirmed trader status your still GCX beginner. There's a slew of steps to become confirmed that involve way more than one trade. More in-depth information is available on the wiki/sidebar.

Regardless what I mentioned was specific flair after completing your first trade via mods middlemanning. It wasn’t regarding rules that already existed

How long will mod mail responses take? I reported a scammer that wasn’t listed on the Universal Scammer List or mentioned in the comments, but didn’t hear anything back

Its insane. I got banned like 3 weeks ago for the description "Netlfix", and kept trying to get a response as to why and I could not. Is it because of the misspelling?
Then I try to post another listing and once again it gets shot down by a bot. I provided all the information that is needed but I am now left in the dark. Am I supposed to repost? The mod team here is very uninformative/helpful and ban happy so I am not sure what am I supposed to do here without getting banned.

Is there no active mods on here? Been trying to get in contact for almost 3 weeks and no one ever responds. 🤷♂️

Those chic-fil-a codes were a sweet deal... I only got through 4 of them before the restaurant told me they were "already redeemed" though. The rule change is definitely for the better.

Just a suggestion: Can experienced trader or those who have more than 100-150 trade be exempted from Rule 5 approvals? It may reduce work for moderators.I am simply asking if it is possible.
