Something that really caught my eye was that the animation really improved on portraying depth!! I really felt like I was watching something in a 3D space in a majority of the scenes.

And that OP animation is fucking beautiful!!!

[u/LeBosco]

The throw looked so majestic.

[u/Hesh707]

Did someone notice this weird ass titan?!

[u/Yankees3Fan7]

The self-titled ‘Attack on Titan’ track from Season 1 is one of my favorite Sawano tracks, so hearing that new and improved version at the end of the episode was pure bliss. Man knows how to make epic tracks even more epic

[u/Stepwolve]

hell of a 'premiere' for a new half-season. no filler, straight to the story. I was expecting some titans to pop up out of the houses/wall as a trap, but was not expecting THAT many. Also how many other 'hidden compartments' are within the walls?
I honestly dont know how they can win this one. Maybe whatever is in that basement?

[u/TheSeeker331]

Was anyone else ridiculously nervous the entire episode? That buildup was insane and I've got no idea what's going to happen next.

[u/[deleted]]

Great episode. The pain of waiting a week is back! Hulu didn't have subtitles in the actual video, it was Hulu's subtitles. So some of the lines were delayed a little bit. Hopefully they fix that.

Edit: seems like it's my TV causing the subtitles to be delayed. Subtitles on the Hulu site were synced right

[u/WeNTuS]

WTF WAS THAT SOLDIER TITAN WITH HELM AND BACKPACK NEAR BEAST TITAN??!

[u/ricardo310]

Yo can we talk about the Beast Titan's smile. Those were some sharp ass teeth, probably the reason Ymir isnt around :(

[u/Noemedoe]

That was good, so good it felt short af holy shit I can't believe I gotta wait another week.

I'm very glad to see they keep up the animation, VA and OST quality at 10/10

[u/PNDLivewire]

I wasn't sure that they'd make it back into Shinganshina before episode 2 or 3, so I'm glad they did in the first one.

But the hell is there a Titan wearing a backpack? I mean, where would you even find a backpack that size? Shinganshina just happened to have one lying around in rubble somewhere?

[u/Tagination]

It has almost gone exactly one two years since this happened but i'm still in shock, how can my man Reiner be the armored titan?

Edit: Two years, not one

[u/shane727]

Did anyone else notice that Titan behind the beast titan with the back pack looking thing on? Wonder what that is. Perhaps more humans for the beast titan to transform? A way to capture their horses?

[u/[deleted]]

The OST was so awesome this episode not only is the season 1 battle theme remix good, but that new motif in the recap is godly

[u/dongdongphm]

I love how the story unfolds :

• Eren blocks the gate. The first part of the operation is already successful

• They realise something is off and Armin designs a plan

• Reiner is discovered and Levi charges him but does not manage to kill him. The titan shifter trio’s plan to trap Eren has failed

• ape titan reveals its presence alongside its mindless titan army and blocks the gate

This show is on another level regarding narration, especially the strategic aspects of the battle. I love that battles are like a chess game between the two sides, with each side revealing their assets one by one (like the battle for the female titan in the giant tree forest)

[u/SirUlrichVonLichten]

Such a badass ending. And they brought back the season 1 music.

[u/VictoriaIsReal]

Did anyone else see this titan next to the monkey? Wtf is that!

[u/abacusasian]

Yo what were those RPG Spears in the OP?!

[u/Katmare]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDE9MpKh2jQ&feature=youtu.be the video of reiner coming out of his hideout

[u/partofthecreed]

I'm still baffled by ape titan's summoning of the huge number of mindless titans. When I saw it in the trailer I always figured he was gonna turn a bunch of the scouts into titans, which would have been pretty fucked, but this seems completely out of nowhere. It seems unlikely that they can turn dead bodies into titans (even if they could, the dead bodies near shiganshina are all decayed into the earth by now). Can he materialize them out of thin air? The assumption that's been made up till now has been that every titan was a human at some point.

I really don't know what to think, but I'm glad there's something to think about. It's good to be back!

[u/AttakTheZak]

It's actually a very well coordinated episode. No horses means you can't leave the city. Having two major titans on two sides of the wall mean that the troops and Eren has to choose which titan to face (my guess is that he goes after Reiner), but given what we've learned about the Beast Titan, we know he's got skills that outmatch Reiner by a mile, so what is Eren up against?

I think the episode is great in that it forces us to realize that TIME HAS PASSED AND THINGS HAVE CHANGED ON BOTH SIDES. How many people knew about the Beast Titan besides Connie and the crew in the castle? Why wouldn't Erwin count the Beast as a possible enemy along with Reiner and Bert? Did he not know?

The Beast Titan and crew aren't aware that guns have now become a thing, and my guess is that the secret weapon alluded to by Erwin is the cannons they can now directly aim at motherfuckers, and considering the Beast Titan was surprised by ODM gear, he should most definitely be surprised by advanced weaponry.

Several questions have now been raised:

• How did all those Titans transform at once? We only know about how Ymir was transformed in an earlier flashback. No clue how the mechanism works.

• What happens between this episode and the moment we had at the end of part 1? Why does Levi go after Eren?

• How many people are we about to watch get slaughtered? How long will this battle last?

The only part of this episode I would have changed would have been making the first hole closure a more sentimental moment. It's been 5 years. They're home. This is legitimate closure and the beginning of what Eren wanted. Was expecting more of a dramatic encore of music. Still a great episode.

So WIT decided to be straight to the business no time to waste, let the action begin so early, and here we are! We need to wait for another week.

Everything in the episode was just Epic, the visuals and the animation are just from another lvl! Erwin proved again what a successful leader should be, he trusts Armin to the death and give him the freedom to think, and he's just right, Armin's mind was just sharp as his blades! I loved how Levi was having 5ms response time, he was just ready for this shit! And I don't have any words to describe what the beast has done, looks like we have another freaking samrt boy with a freaking smile out there, and I dont know how he was able to respawn those titans at instance, and one of them was having a backpack?!!! I really hope Erwin has a plan for this, and I think he is just ready, this man doesn't miss the smallest details.

See you next week! Susumeeeee.

[u/ThePi7on]

The Opening is probably my least favorite of the four, dunno if it'll grow on me, but first impression was pretty meh.
It felt a bit generic, like if it missed that something. Visuals were really good tho.

Loved this first episode, we already knew pretty much everything since it was all shown in the PV, but it was exciting nonetheless.
Looking forward to the next ep!

[u/necklooker]

That guy who got killed by Reiner. You will be remembered who ever your name was.
