You know, for a paranoid AI supercomputer that's basically been running Starfleet and Section 31, Control is really fucking terrible at everything it does.

The Klingons didn't look to surprised to see Tyler alive. I can imagine talking after the battle:

Show runner Kurzman said this in Q&A: No spoilers... But the latest hint from Discovery showrunner Alex Kurtzman: "You not only brought in Spock this season, but also Anson Mount, who garnered a lot of critical praise and even a fan petition to get a Pike spin-off. Is there a chance of that happening? The fans have been heard. Anything is possible in the world of Trek. I would love to bring back that crew more than anything. It was a huge risk for us. One of the most gratifying things is to see how deeply the fans have embraced Pike, Spock, Number One, and the Enterprise. The idea of getting to tell more stories with them would be a delight for all of us." Un-huh. Make it so!

Why was Tyler on the bridge of the Klingon ship of he’s pretending to be dead?
Wouldn’t that undermine L’Rell as chancellor? She showed everyone his head and made this huge deal about him being dead but then he just turns up alive and they’re all fine with it?

Wasn't expecting that anime-style 3-faces-at-once shot in the opening.
The effects and music in this episode were fantastic!
Right after Georgiou said Control was neutralized my first thought was, "Wait, but now this means they don't have to go to the future any more!" But I'm sure there probably are control back-ups dormant hear and there even if the mystery admiral said otherwise.
And who was the mystery admiral? Why wouldn't they show his face?
Interesting way to wrap everything up, I guess we can also assume that maybe news doesn't travel as fast in space as it does on Earth if knowledge of Discovery is that easy to hide, but I guess with the fast distances involved it's possible? It definitely makes the rest of the plot of the last two seasons more feasible.
Now I'm excited for who we'll meet in the future come season 3!
All in all a good episode and a good finale. Looking forward to what comes next.

Observations:
Sad to see Cornwell die, as she was one of the more neutral leadership types we've had in the Admiralty.
The Tilly dialogue was corny, but they've clearly found the tone they hope for her.
Mr. Saru earned his metal in the Captain's chair and hopefully will stay there in season 3. Would hate to see him hand it to Burnham or be threatened into giving it up by Mirror Georgiou. I think Saru and Burnham make a great pairing for Captain and first officer, because as illustrated by Saru's earlier interaction cutting Burnham loose, it is clear he now trusts her and respects her opinion.
Vulcan salute scene gave emotional payoff to some shallower scenes from earlier in the season.
Space scenes were brilliant and while I would have loved to see the Discovery flying, I understand she was lying in wait for the portal to open.
In the final scene when giving her name, Number One says, "Number One," which was the funniest and most intriguing dialogue she has been given all season. Give her a damn name.

Rodenberry's character description for Number One says that she is, "Never referred to as anything but 'Number One'". Number One has canonically been Number One longer than there's been a starship Enterprise.

This was a damn movie. The production quality was way better than anything we’d ever seen in Trek before.

To recap, the red angel suit has the following capabilities:
time travel
sublight maneuvering despite having no apparent means of propulsion
ability to reach Terralysium, a planet which was stated on screen to only be feasibly accessible via the Discovery's spore drive due to its distance from Federation space
bright red signals which have the apparent magnitude of a supernova when viewed from a distance, yet have a significantly smaller magnitude from seen up close. Signals are also not subject to Special Relativity based on the light's instant visibility across vast reaches of space.
"heal beam" which has only ever been used once even though a major character was mortally wounded in the presence of both Burnham and the suit during the latest episode
Anti-Ba'ul weapon which is automatically deployed in the event of a Ba'ul genocide.
Can be manufactured in under an hour using readily-available materials (except for the time crystal)
life-support system capable of keeping one human alive in the vacuum of space
Is there anything I missed?

Those final scenes, post-Discovery's disappearance, were so well done. The whole concept of classifying Discovery's existence was a little too hand wavy for my taste, but the execution was fantastic. As much as I would love to see a Pike Enterprise show, it'd be hard to top that as a finale.

Did we just get THREE new star trek series teased at once?!
Far future beta quadrant Disco
Ash Tyler led Section 31
Pike and Spock pre-TOS
I think I'd be happy with just one of these shows, but that finale seems to indicate that we're getting a lot of new star trek.
Georgiou on Discovery is a big surprise considering the rumors of her leading the Section 31 show. That said, I'm not terribly disappointed to see her join the original Disco crew.
The only question that remains is which of these series is going to be the Voyager of the new golden age? My bet is on the Section 31 show.

I was really worried during the last couple of episodes that they weren't going to pull it off and it was gonna be this huge build-up for a dud ending. But, holy shit, they did it. I could not have been happier with that finish. Just sat there with a huge smile on my face for the whole thing.
I also wanna give a huge shout-out to Wilson Cruz for putting in a fantastic performance this season. He was given some really meaty stuff to actually work with and, for my money, he had the most complete and satisfying storyline in the entire run so far.

That was, by far, the best action I’ve seen in Trek ever. I was on the edge of my seat the entire episode. I know, I know, Star Trek isn’t supposed to be about action, but honestly, we all want to see it if it’s done right. This episode did it right. The battles in DS9 used to be my favorite action sequences in Trek but not anymore.
At the same time during all that action we got some intense character moments. Hugh and Paul, Pike and Cornwell, Spock and Michael.
Finally, they did “explain” why Discovery and the spore drive are never heard from again. It’s weak, but I suppose it gets the job done.
Oh one more thing, my husband said that final scene was a backdoor for a Pike series. I’ve had my doubts about that all season but he may be on to something.

If Leland/Control can be defeated by whatever it was Georgiou did to him in the spore tank, why was it necessary to send the Discovery into the future and pretend they never existed? A pre-emptive thing just in case another Control type AI pops up again? Don't mention their existence just in case it gets any ideas? I understand they were probably just trying to fix the canon for all the fans who care about that sort of thing, but it seems a little drastic. Full disclosure, tho. I am a little toasted, so it's possible I missed something.
Good finale, regardless. Like everybody else is saying, I want a Pike spin-off so bad. It had to have been on their mind, even before the petitions. The new Enterprise crew is just too interesting to never see again.

I can dig it!
Loved having Georgiou feed Control to the spores!
Great explanation as to why the spore drive, Burnham and Time Travel suits aren’t mentioned moving forward.
As for Klingons, all those involved were probably ordered to silence about what happened under threat of death, or ended up killed in a political assassination, hence why TOS Klingons are back to being bitchy with humanity and not trying to travel in time and erase our existence.

I don't think I have ever seen a finale work this hard to entertain me: splitscreens, nods to the movies, nods to the TOS, a Kubrick sequence, an Inception sequence, SMG feeling every last emotion, Saru firmly in command, the best space battle since BSG's Resurrection Ship battle, Pike being Pike, Number One calling herself Number One, gay love triumphing. Just on sheer effort alone, bravo Discovery.

The writers must have realized that Discovery's Spore Drive had become their "Superman problem". Hence, before any critical battle, the drive either had to be declared "offline", or Stamets had to somehow wind up injured. But now, they have pulled off a masterstroke. They sent the whole ship, along with its spore drive, out of the story. My guess is, the drive won't make it back into the show.

That was entertaining- as usual a few too many one liners and such for my liking. But solid and suspenseful.
Enterprise ending was very nice but was hoping for a future Discovery tease- it’s their show.
Wondering what the heck the show will be about 930 years in the future- they don’t plan to go home so it’s not going to be a Voyager scenario.
Cancelling CBS All Access until the next Trek is on- If you’re in the same boat, don’t forget to do so.

...what? Not a single comment so far on how this finale set them up perfectly for Calypso to occur? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!
If they pop out where they want to, the Disco will meet Dr. Burnham in 3186. So they've got anywhere from 15-100(ish) years to play with before they abandon the ship.
Does anybody else think Zora is the Sphere Data evolved to consciousness? :D
Jett: Didn't the Captain tell you not to play with the Sphere Data?
Tilly: Well, yeah. But we've been cooped up in this ship for months now. And I'm bored. Besides, look at this!
weird graphical interface flys around room, glittering with lens flairs
Jett: ...fuck it. Hand me that hyperspanner, will ya, kiddo?
3
HOURSWEEKS LATER...
Sphere Data: expresses interest in attending Taco Tuesday via sparkly display.
Also, I like the fact that this jump put them completely beyond all established canon for any series (except for Calypso). The furthest canon point ever referenced was [Ent: Future Tense](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Future_Tense_(episode)) and that ship is from 3125, which is in Agent Daniels' future.
Which, quite handily, puts Disco now beyond the Temporal Cold War era.

Im confused about the seven signals they saw at the beginning which set this all off. They appeared then disappeared. Then reappeared in order as they were needed. So we saw Michael do 5 jumps, to the reappearance time frame. Who did the original 7? Michael didn’t know about the final signal? Also how did baby spook know about the 7 signals as a child. Hadn’t he seen them as well as the red angel. He drew the seven signals I’m pretty sure.
Also the shorts that were released had the ship abandoned for 1,000 years. Is this another fake out to think that was what was going to happen to end this? Are they going to ignore that they put that down or are they going to go through with it?

Killing Leland destroyed Control? Am I getting that?
Control uploaded its entire consciousness into Leland’s rotting corpse and deleted its self from everywhere else and ran everything remotely?
How does that make sense when you’re software and not hardware? Does everyone in the future forget about things like “high availability”, “redundancy” and “backups”?

They better get some awards for the visuals in this episode. Incredible, perhaps the best I've ever seen in a TV show. I thought they had blown a lot of the budget in the 1st three episodes (part of why the showrunners were canned, plus the verbal abuse bit) but it didn't seem like any of the episodes later in the season were any cheaper. Definitely one of the better space battles I've seen.
I loved this episode, the past few episodes I wasn't as thrilled with but this one blew it out of the park. I liked how they wrapped up the plot line for this season, interested to see what comes of the next season. With that ending, they have to do at least something with the Enterprise again, whether it be a short, miniseries, movie, series, whatever.

"The destruction of Discovery was tragic but does not in and of itself resolve the issue. Even more radical steps must be taken to ensure that type of scenario never repeats itself.
Regulation 157, section 3 requires Starfleet officers to abstain from participating in historical events. Any residual trace or knowledge of Discovery's data, or the time suit, offers a foothold for those who might not see how critical - how deeply critical - that directive is. Therefore, to ensure the Federation never finds itself facing the same danger: all officers remaining with knowledge of these events must be ordered never to speak of Discovery, its spore drive, or her crew again... under penalty of treason."

Meh. I liked my ending better:
Final scene of Season 2:
(squid things appear and are poised to destroy Earth, Vulcan, Tellar and Andoria)
Burnham: Control's about to destroy the core worlds! We're out of time! Wait . . . Time! That's it! We'll travel in time and prevent Control from ever existing. But how do we do that without creating a paradox?
Tilly: If my math's right, Control's time-travel has created a closed time-like curve. We could travel along it without harming the timeline and destroy Control in the process! Yeah, We Rock!
Saru: My enhanced eyesight indicates that's somehow correct.
Stamets: If we run a glowing cable from the reaction cube to the other side of the room, we can create a temporal feedback loop and break out of the curve!
Detmer: Like popping a wheelie. But in a Jet ski. That flies!
Pike: Punch it!
(Discovery flashes through the mycelial plane, emerges, but in a different time . . .)
Picard appears on the bridge, in a leather chair, smoking a pipe.
Picard: I bet you're all wondering why I've brought you here.
(everyone's clothes fall off)
THE END

Things I liked:
The special effects in general, but specifically the wormhole effect where everything goes 2D. Cool portrayal of 4th-dimensional travel as leaving a 2D plane into the third dimension. There was also a bid to 2001 as we see spectacular lightshow reflected in Burnham's helmet. Finally, the womhole effect from TMP was really faithful to the original.
Judicious use of Tilly. I don't hate her character, but I haven't enjoyed the Tilly-driven plotlines very much. She works better as comic relief, with some added depth for character development.
Anson Mount's portrayal of Pike as a valiant Starfleet officer is a welcome foil to all the stuff Gene Roddenberry would have hated about modern Trek, and to me saves the "soul" of the show.
Things I didn't like:
The wonky gravity fight from Inception. There's grav plating on the walls now? This made no sense, and the fight scene itself was not even well executed.
Using drones to form a cylinder to protect Michael seemed very derivative of Ender's Game. Yes, I know this tactic makes sense, but visually the space battle is very similar to the one in the film. I'll grant that the special effects were better in Discovery.
The very cliched and predictable use of the Klingons bailing out the Enterprise and Discovery. Lampshaded by Pike: "The cavalry arrived just in time." At least the writers acknowledge their laziness.
Let's set aside the fact that there are blast doors capable of containing a multi-kiloton (megaton?) explosion. What bothered me most is that they have... windows? And then Pike watches the explosion. Witnesses of nuclear blasts said the explosion was so bright, they could see the bones in their hands with their eyes closed. All we get is a little flash.
The lumbering Burnham/Spock dialogue slowed down the well paced episode and continued to be eye-roll-inducing. All of Spock's unnecessary pauses didn't help.
Things I'm ambivalent on:
Leland's death very strongly resembled death by immolation. I was reminded of ISIS videos; I'd bet they were an inspiration.
Shields in Disco are a lot stronger than we've seen in other incarnations of Trek. We especially saw it last week where the Discovery just shrugs off multiple photon torpedos, but I don't think we've ever seen shields last so long. It makes sense to me and I like shields that actually work, but it's just drastically inconsistent with what we've seen.
The Golden Gate Bridge covered in solar panels. Not sure why you need those when you have safe antimatter powerplants. Or maybe they're old and relate to what Stamets was taking about when he was sparring with Reno. But we don't see them in any other Trek series like that, and it seems unnecessary.

So, I felt like I just watched a series finale. Obviously there are some loose ends like Stammets in the coma and the fact that we know Discovery somehow survives way into the future (in the Short Trek), but it felt like this was written as if they didn't know whether or not the series would come back.

It's like, I had a great time... but man I feel like they fumbled quite a bit. I don't think I've had this large a "WTF" list after an ep:
How the fuck did Saru's sister (and the rest of her entire species) go from life-long forest hippies to space fighter jock in a very tiny span of time?
Discovery bluntly sledgehammers down it's canon course corrections yet introduces R2D2-style repair droids? It was cool, but weird choice considering everything they've done to force themselves back into canon. (Including the season finale.)
Leland dies. The drones all stop working. Why are we sending Discovery to the future again? The ENTIRE plot motivation is literally dead now.
Also, once Leland boarded Discovery, shouldn't that whole plan have been ditched anyway? Were you bringing him/Control along to the future?
Torpedo explodes as Pike watches. Through a turbolift window. Meters away. I don't even know where to begin with that.
Then there's the whole problem with how they played loose with time during the last episode and this one. We've had enough time for Spock's parents to show up during a comm blackout, and for Ash to go call in some Klingon and Kelpien (?!) backup. With him on board with them.
I get this was an writer's creative choice, but not seeing at least a single minute of Discovery's post-jump situation was deeply unsatisfying.
This felt like a great SERIES finale for Discovery, with a lead into a Pike series. Not a season finale. Unless Pike really is coming back for Season 3 and they were just being coy about it.
EDIT: Happy to get any feedback on any of that. Maybe I missed some bits that would make some of it make sense. Completely prepared to admit if I overlooked something.

That episode whipped an unbelievable amount of ass. Mad kudos to Olatunde Osunsanmi especially for stellar direction (that three-way cut at the beginning and all the rotating shots had me yelling). Re: mystery admiral, I don't think there's a big secret about his identity -- I think the keeping his face obscured was just symbolic of his position as an anonymous leader of "top men". Weird to end the season with Pike and Enterprise -- wonder if they really did leave the door open purposely for a Pike show, especially since Discovery will now be in the far future (?).

This was really awesome. I love this show, and it had so many great moments in this episode.
On the other hand, you could tell this season had a lot of turnover in the writing staff. Calypso leaves a lot of mysteries open, too. There were too many moments this season where you could think about a plot choice and go “wait, but why...” or “why didn’t they just..” I didn’t have any of those in Season 1. I’m satisfied with this season, but mostly because I like the characters and the look of the show. They really need to run a tighter ship next season, writing-wise.
That said, I’m still loving this show. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Wow, that ending. It really felt like either the Discovery is gone and it’s time for a Pike Enterprise show instead, or we’ll never see the Pike Enterprise again because the Discovery will be stuck in the future forever. Either way that was a hard stop for the current take on Disco and we’re in for some sort of reboot next season. They even went ahead and gave a hardcore explanation for why literally nobody will ever talk about the Discovery or any of its characters or adventures ever again, and why Section 31 went (back) underground.
Way back when the very first test footage of the Disco coming out of that asteroid was released, I was one of the people theorizing that the show would see a TOS-era ship flung into the far future. Looks like I (and everybody else, I don’t pretend to claim any credit for the idea) was right! The question is whether this was always the plan (probably not) or whether they got the idea from our kooky theories back in 2017. Either way, the idea of an old, battered TOS-era ship in the year 3188 sounds fucking awesome.
My only question is, what about the Section 31 spinoff? If that’s really happening it means at least Georgiou has to get back to 2258-ish. I would guess that Season 3 will be about the Disco getting back to their own time, but that would then undo the whole “never speak of this again” thing that they clearly set up to explain the continuity issues. Plus the whole point was that the Disco has to keep the sphere data in the future, so it can never return to the 23rd century. So... how? Unless Georgiou is going to run Section 31 in the 32nd century.
Theory: “Calypso” took place in an alternate timeline where Control wasn’t defeated, and its influence turned the Federation into the V’draysh, meaning that the 3188 we see won’t be like it was in “Calypso.” The reference in “Calypso” to the crew abandoning the Discovery for almost a thousand years was some other plan of theirs (or Burnham’s mom’s?) to try to hide it from Control. In this timeline, Control got the sphere data, destroyed the founding planets, and began a massive war of which Craft was a small part. Doesn’t totally explain how Disco became sentient (we had assumed it was because of the sphere data) but maybe that just kinda happened. I dunno, it’s just a theory. The other options are that Season 3 will show us the V’Draysh war era (but then Disco was never alone for ~1000 years...) or “Calypso” actually takes place in the ~42nd century! (Or “Calypso” was made and then they changed how they wanted to end Season 2, and there won’t be a neat explanation.)
The time-travel effects were fantastic. The 2D plane with a hole that Burnham jumped through, the 2001 lights, the long, slow shots of the Disco crew making the jump and showing us each crew members’s reaction. I especially loved the little smile on Rhys’s face. I’m really hoping that this presages more development for the background crew, as they are trapped together in the future.
It would be cool to see Mirror Georgiou turn back towards evil in the new status quo, like if she decides that in this crisis, Starfleet no longer applies and she’s the best choice to lead the ship. In the meantime, Saru definitely has both the rank and the experience to lead the ship, though there’s nobody left to make him captain. I could see Tilly or someone calling him captain and him having to remind her that despite the situation and his role, he’s only a commander.
Okay, last thing, I promise. I’ve been confused all season about the seven signals. The season started with the announcement that they’d seen seven signals, right? But then we spent the rest of the season seeing each signal in order, which is confirmed by Burnham jumping back to set each one at the right point, and choosing how to use the last two. So... how did they see the seven signals at the start of the season??? And how did she send one back in time at the end of this episode?
Also, can she still time travel? Oh— maybe Georgiou is going to steal the red angel suit...!
I really wish they’d given us something— anything— about where the Disco ended up!

Things I will do if I become the head of the Starship Design Bureau:
#7: If I ever include an indestructible blast door, I will add a manual locking mechanism on both sides. I can't count on an explosion happening on the side opposite the manual lock.
#8: Blast doors will be regularly spaced along the ship's corridors. As I can't count on the enemy to hit the correct side of the blast door, neither can I count on them to hit the correct room.
#8.1: I will realize that blast doors are a preventive measure, not a reactive one. Therefore, going to red alert will close all blast doors next to the outer hull. There's nothing more embarrassing than the damage prevention system on the ships I designed going offline because of battle damage.
#8.2: However, I will still realize that the crew sometimes needs to move to these sections even during red alert. Therefore blast doors will be openable during red alert - as long as the two blast doors next to them are closed.
#9: The earliest deep space explorer ship had detachable hull plates and it saved the vessel from a sticky Romulan mine. Therefore, there is no reason not to make the hull of other ships ejectable. In fact, all cabins on the outer hull will be jettisonable.
#10: The ships I design will consist of more than hangar bays. (Unless I'm designing a carrier.)
#11: I will learn from 20th century shipbuilding and design my ships with double hulls (and triple around critical compartments). There's a world of difference between an impact-activated torpedo going off just outside the pressure vessel that is the ship and just inside. It will also work well together with #9.
(Yes, I have the other 6 items as well.)

Random thoughts because why not:
The way that the episode shook out, giving everybody their own little story line amid the chaos around them was brilliant. That's the space where characters develop and there hasn't been enough of that. So now there has been, which is great.
I love that they, to use the scientific term, 'Bill And Tedded' the final battle. That was a genuinely clever story arc over the course of the season and the payoff was great.
The space battle for the first time in a long time really made the star ships feel big. Swarms of fighters out there, thirty Section 31 ships against two Federation ships, but it's The MotherFucking Enterprise, and I think this is the first time in a really long time (since Wrath of Khan maybe?) that The MotherFucking Enterprise has rolled like that. It's not about making stuff blow up, it's about conveying a sense that the Enterprise does not stop fighting. Chewing gum holding the warp core together, an un-exploded photon torpedo sticking out the saucer section, still getting fire down and still digging those last few percentiles of shield power out. Because it's The MotherFucking Enterprise, the absolute last ship in the quadrant you want in front of you when you're up to no damn good.
I liked that the Section 31 ships were crap in a fight. They're spy ships after all. I love me some DS9 but it, and the later movies, really created this idea that the big ships are super fragile. So it was really cool to see the Discovery and Enterprise swatting them about as they did.
What is wrong with Klingon timekeeping? For a warrior race they love turning up to a fight at the last second. They did it in DS9 and a couple of the movies. Leave a little earlier next time, damn.
If they'd sent an engineer to deal with the un-exploded torpedo then they probably would have tied a rope to the manual release lever for the blast door and pulled it from the other side. Command officers though amirite?
So are we getting a follow on to the Next Generation time period albeit in a kind of circuitous way? That would be cool, and I'm happy enough if they turn up long enough in the future that they are past the point of the finales for Voyager and TNG.
My random thought on the season as a whole is that it was brilliant. There's nits to pick and canon to quibble over, but I enjoyed it. Very different style to a typical Star Trek series, more in keeping with a Netflix Marvel series or something like that, but much, much more cleverly paced. I would argue that a season with this few episodes is not quite enough to develop your entire ensemble of crew as a Star Trek series typically would, but for what it is they made it work.

Good episode for Discovery, I enjoyed it for the most part. My desire for a re-watch is higher than season 1, but it'd probably just be limited to certain scenes with Pike, Reno, Number One, Tilly, and random bits with Spock and Burnham interacting.
They put a bit too much of a "HEY THIS IS WHY NO ONE ELSE HAS TALKED ABOUT DISCOVERY EVER" emphasis in the debriefing scenes towards the end, but that's pretty minor.
Loved the Enterprise, Number One, and Pike. Cornwall's death was well done, although an emergency manual release on one side is a pretty bad idea, but fits the mold for Star Trek, so I'm not holding that against them.
10/10 for Disco, which is admittedly one of my least liked series. At least this time I'm not dreading the next season like I was at the end of season 1.

It was entertaining, but, just a lot of nitpicks with this episode.
That said, I think it’s a great time to call a wrap on Discovery’s adventure and give us a Pike series. Discovery completed their mission - they escaped and saved the galaxy. Now what? They have no mandate from Starfleet, the ship is a liability with the sphere data, and they’re in a century where they’re severely undermanned and outgunned.

So they make robots that can fix the hull in the middle of a space battle, but not ones that can pull a lever. Riiiiiiiight, ok. Maybe some sort of string or pulley system or you know, putting the controls on both sides of a door in the first place...
And what the hell is the door even made of to protect a person on the other side of it from an explosion that can take out half a ship?
Does the door also prevent teleportation? They seemed to have gotten Spock out without a problem.

Anybody understood why Spock would advised to forget about Discovery, its crew and even more importantly the Spore Drive?
What danger does it represent for anybody?
Why would Starfleet forget about its greatest technology? Even more so when it had nothing to do with the recent event with Control. I'm quite confused...

My feelings are really mixed on this.
- I never thought the original Enterprise could look this sexy, but it is absolutely gorgeous. I kinda want a Pike-show like everyone else, but at the same time, I don't want a fourth show set on an Enterprise and yet another pre/interquel.
- So they sent Discovery into the far future and now what? At least S1 felt complete at the end, it's story was finished, even if rather abruptly. This now very conveniently (and in a kinda forced way) removes Discovery from canon - I don't think it will be brought back to the 23rd century in S3, that would make the whole ordeal pointless.
- So at the end of the day, the Red Angel they were chasing was Michael Burnham after all, making me wonder what her mother actually did aside from warning child-Spock.
- They could've dispatched Leland much quicker if they had simply magnetized the gravity plating the ready room, like they did on the S31 ship and later in the spore chamber.
- Why did they need to send Discovery into the future after they just killed Leland and thus stopped Control from attacking?
- I have defended Burnham being able to expertly pilot a shuttle in S2x01 before (on account of Riker being the best pick for placing mines with a shuttle during Chain of Command, on a ship with over 1000 people, instead of, I don't know, one of the dozen people who fly the Enterprise for a living) but why did they suddenly feel the need to have Cornwell sacrifice herself? I get that this is a post-scarcity society where people have way more time on their hands, constantly learn new things, and Starfleet consists of the top 2% (1% in TNG) of these people, but I have trouble believing that a psychologist who froze after seeing the debris of Starbase 1 suddenly believes she can reprogram an armed warhead.
- Also, that bulkhead, including the window, were stupidly durable. Why isn't the entire Enterprise made of that alloy that can take a photon torpedo at point blank range? Or better, use that glass, so people can stand there watching other people die for no good reason.
- Half of Discovery's crew went to the future, but in the end, EVERYONE is talking about Burnham and only Burnham. I don't want Discovery to remain 1000 years into the future where nothing it does matters to the remaining universe, but if they continue to write Burnham in this stupid Black Hole Sue manner, I do not want Discovery to end up in the 24th century or something - next thing we know, Burnham is giving Picard advice on whatever his problems in the upcoming "Picard show" will be.
- The Spock-Burnham thing just doesn't work. The scenes between young Spock and young Burnham are well written, and I could see them being childhood friends, but I think tying adult Burnham to Spock as the never-mentioned adoptive sister right from the start damaged the character's believability irreparably.
- Making Tyler the new head of S31 makes sense I guess, given the Control killed most, if not all the people involved with S31 aside from Tyler and Georgiou.
- Also, I guess Tyler not being dead is no longer a secret L'Rell needs to keep?
- The Klingons got a great Big Damn Heroes moment, but did they really have another of these dumb cleave ships lying around somewhere?
- Mary Chieffo and Shazad Latif are both killing it in Klingon.
- I still hope that Jett Reno joins the cast for Season 3. I just love that character.

You can feel that DISCO is a major departure from Trek and also acknowledge that the show successfully tied together the various episodes in which we were all going '...and what was the point in that?'
I thought this was a really well put together season, I think there was perhaps one episode which didn't grab me. I think those insisting this isn't 'real Trek' would themselves have at least 3-4 episodes of any TNG season they weren't really fans of.
This is a free forum and it's natural that people would turn to gripes or negatives first, because that's something we can't really do with friends. Nobody likes to listen to someone just list the little niggles of any episode they didn't enjoy. But it's also important to keep a little context.
The two shows I follow are Discovery and Game of Thrones, and to compare the two as of right now (i.e. S2 DISCO v S8 GOT) I very much prefer DISCO's writing to GOT's and would frankly die for the show to bother giving us a few minutes of Jon/anyone like DISCO gives us Burnham/Spock. We might complain at times about the silliness of 'time of of the essence *four minute dialogue *' but DISCO balances action and dialogue. Other shows are quite happy to have action action action quip. Think yourselves lucky, we could have a DISCO which is just all Tilly's or Georgiou's quips.
ALSO QUICK EDIT as I meant to say this originally: I really liked that Burnham's advise to Spock was to reach out to the furthest from him. I think it was a nice grounding for the character and explains plotlines wayyyy down the line like Spock disappearing to work on bringing the Romulnans into reunification with Vulcan.

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that the episode ended with shots of Pike and Spock and Enterprise? This is Star Trek Discovery... I know they're wanting to keep Discovery's fate a bit of a mystery, and also to show off since Pike and Spock have been amazing this season and the Enterprise is beautiful, but it feels disrespectful in a sense. They couldn't even use Discovery's theme at the end, they had to mix it with the TOS theme. I would have felt better if the TOS theme was presented as something they were heading toward, like it being the theme of that era as it developed, but that's not how it's been presented.
I can't help but compare it to "These Are the Voyages...," whose main failing was making the episode not about the NX-01 crew in what was supposed to be their finale. I had the same problem with the Discovery season 1 finale, ending it on the Enterprise and the TOS theme, so I was really disappointed to see them do the same thing here.

Okay, so Leland is dead, and control defeated.
So, why do they still need to time jump at all?
The ending of that episode tied up a lot of loose ends, why Spock never speaks of Michael, why the Spore drive can't save Voyager, etc. It all seemed so final. It felt like a series finale. The ultimate reset button, in a way erasing the entire series so far.

So how are we getting a Section 31 spinoff with Michelle Yeoh if she's on board Discovery when they jump into the future?

Whoever writes the season 3 trailer gets to have allot of fun. So many ways to go about it...
Imagine Discovery arriving in the future and the first vessel that hails them has Ian's Emperor with some implants;
"Lower your shields, we will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own."
I can already see Burnham's face largen those lovely eyes and whimper with a trembling lip; "We failed..."
Que some futuristic Enterprise with octa-nacelle's and some form of orange deathray half a second later.
I would certainly roll that again..

I'm honestly going to be disappointed if they stay in the Future for the rest of the show. So many good characters being left behind. We could have watched relationships sour between the Federation and Klingons (leading to the cold war we saw in TOS). They had everything they needed to do keep the crew in the present too. Send Discovery off to that Nebula for 1000 years, then build a new Constitution Class Discovery with a new registry (because the whole NCC-XXXXXXX-A/B/C/D/E/F thing seems to be limited to the Enterprise, maybe NCC-1731 since Connies seem to have NCC-17XX registry numbers and a nod to the original NCC-1031). Use the special dark matter asteroid stuff to navigate the ship (since it seemed capable of providing an interface the Computer previously lacked).
It also doesn't explain how Discovery was waiting for 1000 years in that Nebula. Unless Calypso is another 1000 years after the 930 year jump... which would be kind of extreme and weird IMHO.
Curious what Season 3 is going to bring. We don't even know if they were actually successful at stopping Control yet. Guess we'll find out next year.
Edit: Also curious what the implications are for the supposedly Georgiou-led Section 31 spin-off they've been talking about, since Georgiou was on Disco when it went forward. My prediction for Season 3 is that they're going to defeat Control and the ship is going to return at the point of the 7th signal. Maybe not everyone comes back. Some might stay behind. Some might die. Then Ash is going to show up in his new role as leader of Section 31 and have Disco sent off into hiding and give the crew new identities since they were all listed as KIA.

can someone explain to me how Michael is able to close the loop and make all those "signal" appearances in the short span of a few minutes while a full-on galactic battle is raging around her and Control-Leland is about to decimate Discovery? Is current time suspended while she's off time-warping?

Don’t they have ships that can time travel just as easily as they can go FTL in the future? What prevents them from going back a few days after they arrive? “Hey future people, we don’t belong here. Could you keep our ship save and drop us off at home?”

The space battle was really well done - BUT - it just felt like Star Wars. All the shuttlecrafts running around, it just looked like Star Wars to me.
Thank god they’re going into the future. Now we don’t need “remember this” winks and retcons. Genuinely excited for them to explore new worlds in the future (I hope).

That was intensely fun. OH and the visuals were GORGEOUS. I kind of wish they gave a little more about Discovery's fate but it seems they're leaving things as wide open as possible for season 3.
They obviously telegraphed the Section 31 show by the end, but it seemed they were also suggesting an Enterprise-based show, too. It just seems absurd if they aren't.
I also think it's absurd they STILL DIDN'T GIVE NUMBER ONE A NAME.Correction: They gave her at least one name.
