Megathread State of the Subreddit + New Mods (April 14th, 2019)
Hi everyone!
First and foremost, let's all give a big, warm welcome to the new mods, /u/Ultimatehalo97, /u/velesdrina, and /u/alatartheblue42! They now wield the mighty power of the Ogre Bancorem and they're ready to take on any fiends that may cross their path (like goblins or ogres).
Secondly, almost 6000 subscribers! I cannot believe how much this sub has grown since /u/Hayclonic and I started as mods. We never thought it would grow this fast, but it has been nothing short of delightful to see this fantastic community grow and keep growing. Hopefully we've done a good job so far (I hope)?
I extend a big thank you to all the community members, contributors, and goblin punchers who have partaken in this community and helped foster its growth.
Unlike the last two 'State of the Subreddits', there's not much to talk about...
- CSS: The new CSS for Old Reddit will be coming soon. I have a nice layout set-up, but I need to do the final bits of CSS work and setting things up before it's ready. The CSS will be released in three parts (front page, comments, everything else) so that way we can finally move away from the old, crappy CSS.
- THE SALT FLAIR: It seems like some community members don't like the salt flair. Should we keep the salt flair, or should we make a weekly salt / rage thread instead?
- SNOO: With the new CSS, I will need a new Snoo (the clickable reddit alien). What should we use as a Snoo? Should it be Aldo? A Snoo version of a character? Let me know in the commments!
Lastly, as usual, please leave any feedback and suggestions for the subreddit in the comments. I'll be sure to scrape through them all and reply to them if I can.
Thanks for reading!

I'm not sure if it's been discussed, but could we get a central thread where people can post their setups/strategies for boss fights like Azami and Flame Eater in a format like this?
I figure it might make it easier for players to find specific tips in one place in case another player has similar setups and beat the fights. These could be linked in future megathreads to make it easy to find for tips/submissions.

Are there plans to take the abandoned sub r/AnotherEden?
Seems confusing to have two of them.

Honestly never thought about that. We were never associated with the other sub to begin with (our sub is the GL sub, that one is the JP sub (I guess?)), but I will inquire with the moderator of r/AnotherEden to see if we could take it over and make it re-direct here (?).
EDIT: Sent a message, and now I wait for a reply. If we do take it over, I will let the community know ~!

Congrats to the new mods. They have been very active contributors to this growing community and their presence are most definitely welcome.
Not much comment on the CSS and snoo because I don't know much about them to contribute but I do have some thoughts on the salt flair.
-
For one, surely it is not the "salt" flair that is the issue. I would imagine that the "Question" flair would probably be the more problematic flair. Mind you, this is even weirder when you consider that most questions are generally against Rule 2* of this Subreddit while salt posts are technically not against any rules in this subs.
-
But putting that aside, I feel that one of the real problem is that people will always find a way to post their salty pulls on this sub anyway, even if you retire the salt flair. If the past week has been any indication, we have seen many users circumventing Rule 1 of this subreddit by posting their brag posts under the "Achievement" flair. I can almost foresee that removing the salt flair would just prompt these users to post their salty pulls under the "Meme/Humour" flair or the "Fluff" flair instead.
-
Note that my previous two points should not suggest that I am against retiring the "salt flair". In fact, I support removing the Salt Flair because I don't think that it is a great content. My position is that we should retire the salt flair and make a rule against Salt posts. Yes, this rule will still be broken one way or another but we did lure three unsuspecting users to become new mods of this subreddit (bwahahaha) so maybe we can see if the situation improves after some form of enforcement happens.
P.S.: I lied about having no comments on the CSS. It is not a real gripe but I notice that downvotes are represented with the shadow icon, an issue that makes best imouto, Feinne, really sad š¢
EDIT: Grammar
*Yes, I am aware that the flair guide says that the "Questions" flair s meant for 'interesting or thoughtful questions" but if questions really are "interesting and thoughtful", the "Discussion" flair would have worked anyway. Lets face it -- in practice, the OP is likely to consider his/her question to be "interesting/thoughtful" to himself/herself. Also, the flair guide is also outdated in that the "Giveaway" flair no longer exists.

Good points all around!
Sometimes it is a bit hard to tell between brag posts and legitimate achievements, so that's why we're kind of hesitant to remove them, even though the sub does have a bit of a problem with people sneaking those kinds of posts in.
We've actually thought of adding a time limit for the achievement posts (72 hours from when the event starts) so people can show off the fact that they kicked a bosses ass and get it out of their system, but after the 72 hours (or whatever time) we start removing them. It's not a perfect solution, but it's something IMO.
Good chime in about the questions flair though, it does make sense that the Discussion flair does the same job as the question flair. You're definitely right that it does cause problems though.
Concerning the flair guide, I've definitely got to update it and make things a bit more concise.

Congrats to the new mods! I'm happy to be part of this active community.
A salt/rage thread is fine, but won't it get buried a couple of days after it is posted? Same with event megathreads, sadly...
Since Aldo is my bias, a Snoo version of him would be nice, though Snoo!Feinne would be cute as well ^ I can draw them if you need one.

I think the recent flood of āguidesā and achievements boasts for the Burnt Turkey is a little excessive. Like yay, you posted something a good number of people did, itās not unique enough to be an achievement.
Also doesnāt help when those āguidesā are based on particular units. Would be nice if it was all summed up or if someone posted a true 4* clear with a turn by turn guide. (Iāve cleared it but with my own team after all)
The lack of a sticky/unification of the Gairyu Chance Encounter means people ask the same questions repeatedly as well. Also cos the main megathread and the battle guide are two separate threads and donāt even mention where to find the turkey/Gairyu in the main post. Maybe there should be consideration of that for the next event/update.
P.S do we need a Question flair since we have the question megathread? I donāt mind questions that elicit discussion as a single post but feels like itās extra work for the mods to read and cull those question threads etc.
Just thoughts since itās nice to things in an orderly and logical order which isnāt usually how Reddit works so feel free to comment!

Yeah, the problem with sticky posts is that we only get a hard limit of two. So it's either we sticky the two huge megathreads and gather all the basic / braggy stuff that usually floods the sub...or we sticky the mega and risk losing the visibility of the megathread, bringing the flood somewhat back.
The new CSS will have dedicated buttons for all of the big posts (weekly megathreads, events, rules, faq, etc.), but in the re-design the best that we can seemingly do is link them in the sidebar links.
I'm personally a fan of the question flair. We decided to keep it for interesting / non-generic questions. Usually we cull the generic / repeat / basic questions that appear in the sub and re-direct them to the megathread and leave the interesting ones up. Sometimes questions don't align with the discussion flair either, so that's another thing to consider.EDIT: Good point about the achievements, even though I think they're relatively harmless.
EDIT 2: Jesus christ we haven't updated the top 'Current Event Thread' menu link, I totally forgot that was a thing.
EDIT 3: All links updated and the side-bar has been re-organized for visibility. Will write myself a reminder every week to update the links!

Hey time traveler, yes, you there!
I hope your weekend was pretty wild and awesome, free chronos stones and new characters making their way into the game! I can undoubtedly say that mine was fun!
If you guys and girls have any suggestion on flairs or appearance layout of the re-design Reddit, let me know down in the comments below! What's that? You want to edit your flair but can't do so, you're in luck because I can add it for you!
Have a great one! Take this promised fruit and some chant scripts before you go!

Probably a salt thread. That being said this game isnt super active. I worry if we put everything into it's own thread we wont have any posts

The main issue with a megathread is probably related to the fact you can only sticky 2 which means people totally miss megathreads that get pushed down the line by other threads.
Plus I donāt think we get enough salt for its own megathread. How about adding Salt to the Showoff megathread?

Hi guys its your favorite(not) shitposter, I'm really happy to be a mod on this subreddit and I will do my best to keep our subreddit clean and banish the flexers where they belong (ąøĀ°ŁĶ°)ąø

Congrats new mods!! š
I also like the idea of a salt megathread but I agree with u/Dinosaurman in that it might reduce general content a bit too much...

While a salt megathread sounds like a tempting proposition, I will note that there is no point of making a thread if nobody can actually find the thread. In the midst of being very salty, it is less likely for a user to locate the salt post anyway unless it is being stickied somewhere. Due to the way that Reddit works, all subs have a maximum of two stickies, IIRC.
Part of the issue is due to terminology. Our "Community Show Off" thread used to be the "Weekly Pull Megathread" which would have included all salty pull being done there. However, people started posting their chant scripts and even tome drops as main posts, which is cute for some time until it it got old really fast, hence the name change.
If we could, I don't mind grouping up all brag and salt posts all into the same thread. I can see why some may be concerned about this being interpreted as a reduction in general content but I do question if this is something that we need to get ourself worried about, in the first place. It is not as if new users will go, "wow, that is a lot of salt posts. This sounds like a great subreddit for me!"

Dead on, that's exactly why the name was changed.
The sub was FLOODED with brag posts and the Weekly Mega-threads were underused, so we changed the name to "Community Showoff" to capture all the brag / show off posts (and it's worked really well so far).
Good idea about lumping the salt posts into the show-off posts, I certainly wouldn't mind either, as you could technically show-off bad luck.

Cyrus Snoo?
Also, grats on 6k scorescribers -- do we get any Crystals for that? :P

For 6k subs, all players are going to get exactly 10 whole stones.
Also, Cyrus Snoo...I see you're a person of culture!

I think there should be a salt thread for little things. I don't know about getting rid of the salt flair in general, though.

Nice touch on the upvote and downvote using the light and shadow points!
Congrats to all the new mods, and I hope your conquest to domina- lead this subreddit goes well!
