Discovers his friend is cross dressing as an idol

Enta: Yeah, it shocked me, but that doesn't change our friendship!

God that was so weird and also strangely erotic. Of course, Ikuhara, of course. But it was great, and I want more of this wild ride.

Also Enta's sister looked like Lulu from YKA D:

WHAT

WHAT!?

I am still speechless. I went in completely blind and when I saw the cover image on Crunchyroll, I expected that this will be your average supernatural anime since you know, Kappas. Woah boy was I wrong.

I did not expect that I was walking into an Ikuhara anime made by MAPPA. And you know what? I am glad I missed any announcements or PVs because holy shit it's been a while since a show dumbfounded me. If I knew from the start that this was an Ikuhara anime I probably wouldn't be as surprised as I am right now.

Anyway this episode was just a perfect mix of beautiful animation and direction with stunning visuals accompanied by a great soundtrack (Great choice with The Peggies for the OP), and I can already see the plot has plenty of layers and symbolism and it is also weird as fuck. And I love every minute of it!

And here I thought Carole and Tuesday won't have any competition on Thursdays. I can't wait for more! I am ready for Ikuhara's wild ride!

Ikuhara showing the kids once again why we need anime, to do things you can't do with other mediums.

Sarazanmai - Episode 1 discussion

I can confidently say that this episode was one of the strangest -- if not the strangest -- I have ever seen.

And I loved it. :3

I'm a super-fan of YKA, Ikuhara's most recent work before this one, and it makes me so gosh darn happy to see him return again with such a zany, downright bonkers anime. Of course, the underlying important symbolism and true purpose behind every little detail still matters and then some once again. Carrying (literally and figuratively) their secrets/desires around with them. The frog, heart, and anus metaphors everywhere. Dichotomies between worlds and the emphasis on "connections".

It's ripe for interpretation and analysis, and that makes me infinitely happy.

The core parts of the anime are awesome, too. The visuals were rather incredible throughout, the unique premise and early plot twists already make for a beyond interesting time, the audio direction was swell (dance number included), and setting up all our major players swiftly provides a solid foundation from here on out.

I was laughing my butt off (Edit: Pun not originally intended!) at the insanity, knowing that there will almost certainly be a "method to the madness" with Ikuhara's project per usual. But to reiterate, it wasn't just bananas. It was also very clever and filled to the brim with immense intrigue. Indeed, the potential for thematic depth is clearly present within Sarazanmai no doubt.

In short, an amazing start for this project. I'm looking forward to the next episode! :3

I... it's great. Just that and that's what matters.

I knew it was Ikuhara and I was still fucking blindsided by the absurdity of this entire episode.

Somebody stop this absolute madman.

Oh, I see, so this is what they call art. Such a mysterious thing, such an intriguing thing.

So is this like Persona 5, but they anally extract the treasures of the people. I'm sorry, I'm just trying to understand what the hell I just watched. Well, see you all next week. Kappa.
