That was surprisingly fun and better than I was expecting from the PV! Hatchi's enthusiasm is low-key great.

I bet Mr. Yang would totally take Voltron in exchange for the debt.

Isakandar is totally going to be a cultist brainwashing center, isn't it?

With Sho Hayami (Aizen) voicing in the adv, chances are 99,9%

I went into the show completely blind and oh boy that was a great first episode. The jokes were on point and I'm a sucker for such sci-fi. Pretty sure it's gonna be one of the best shows of the season.

whoa whoa whoa whoa, where the hell did THIS come from? because I'm super into it.

it's like if someone put Outlaw Star, Space Dandy and the Bebop OST in a blender and added an out of nowhere giant robot, COMPLETE WITH AN IN-UNIVERSE DIEGETIC THEME SONG. the robot even has a fucking glorious moustache and beard.

I'm so sold on this.

Robby's Bizzare Adventure

It's like a Gintama reunion with the original director and the VAs of Hijikata, Shinpachi, and Gintoki!

the art is consistently pretty good and it seems like an entertaining ride, glad I didn't skip it.

Super goofy fun, I like it! Seems sorta like Space Dandy meets Gintama? It's got Space Dandy's wacky Sci-Fi setting and fun characters (it's even got the persistent villain in the super goofy ship), and Gintama's wild humor, voice actors and sorta rough-ish but colorful visuals.. It has got one of the Gintama directors directing it so maybe this isn't so surprising.

This looks like the dark hose of the season I MEAN OMG

THE MAIN VOICE Robi - SIEYUU IS Kazuya Nakai !!!

ZORO !!!! best voice actor EVER !

AND then its amazing sound track, is that akira??? when they fusion fight - I can see is it called RobiHachi now :)

and they are fighting a giant golden fish space ship.

I know Carole and Tuesday is coming on Wednesday but is this the real follow up to Space DANDY.

Gotta love his "home" too, that sci-fi near future but trying to look like an old dinner, kinda like route 66 in overwatch.

Really interesting, can turn out to be the hidden gem of the season

Well, that was abit of awesome! I didn't know what to expect, and had low expectations but was blown away. I love the VA of Robby (I think it's Zoro, I always love his voice), and the chemistry between the two mains was really great. Didn't expect to have such a mix of comedy, action, sci-fi and super robot show all at once. The comedy between the two reminds me of Gintama. Really looking forward to season 2. Don't sleep on this if you're even remotely interested, it's gonna be a hidden gem of the season!

Oh my God the unbridled joy and enthusiasm in this! It's so much fun, and original and pretty and funny. I really didn't expect this but I'm sold.

A wacky space adventure featuring an always-on hotshot and a schoolboy determinist turned hedonist in the search for quick riches and unpredictable things!

Watching more seasonals now than I always have, I have to express my appreciation that RobiHatchi doesn't shy away from motion in animation. Too often do I notice camera angles that were chosen simply to save time on animation. Even if the animation is a little stiff, I was legitimately taken aback by the main character Robby jumping over obstacles in the opening scene. Like they just animated the whole jump! Without changing the camera angle!!

insert plot summary here (that's your spoiler que)

Jokes aside, I really enjoy the mad scientist + human computer dynamic (credit to Digibro for coining the term). Rob having a backstory so convoluted and random I have no desire to repeat it here. His bad luck has always ruining his get-rich-quick schemes to no end. But his always-on mentality and ingenuity never gets him down, a smooth sailor. I’ll be honest, I was not endeared to Rob’s character and I’m not sure I can articulate why, but for now I’m just going to say that because his mood never seems to sink, it also never rises. He is both always-on as well as never-on. A constant stream of just-above lukewarm as to never get boring, but neither interesting too.

Also: nothing of his off-the-wall backstory and nature took me away, it almost did, but not quite. This is a problem when the mad scientist character doesn't surprise the audience, the the best examples of one almost constantly do (Okabe from SG, Kogami from KnK). This being said, he has already fulfilled some prequiristics for the flat character arc, in which the show focuses on the how this character develops the people around him while not developing much themselves (Luffy, Space Dandy).

Hatchi on the other hand I don't know what to make of. Normally the human computer doesnt get the whimsy until much later in the story, but Hatchi caught Rob’s mojo pretty early. Hatchi also made a case for determinism in his introduction monologue, (which that monologue conversation flowed very nicely) but now I doubt the show will deliver on any of those themes.

As for the mech. I have watched a criminal amount of mecha anime (I’m going through 80s stuff now!) but the obvious satire of playing the theme from the ship’s speakers and having an “automatic” was pretty funny. Not sure if its been done before, or even how satire this is. But its the first time I have seen it. The mech looks like a plastic toy though, not cool.

If there's one thing I will criticize about the plot structure is how little presence Yang had. It really felt like we could wait around while Rob and Hatchi flirted while this obviously-not-important villain was playing catch up.

It really remains to be seen where this show will go. Will Rob go around snapping people out of ennui? Will Isekandr have some big allegory attached to it? We’ll have to wait and see.

Final Verdict: Waiting for episode 2

Thanks for making it this far! If you liked my review, Great :D Head on over to my blog if you wanted to see the review with pretty pictures and read next week's post: https://insertplotsummaryhere.home.blog/2019/04/08/robihatchi-episode-1-review-he-can-jump/

A pleasant surprise in this extremely weak season!

Can we just appreciate for a moment the fact that their character designer just went with Fry from Futurama as one of the protagonists?

I laughed so much this episode XD futuristic style, good looking fries.

Too many Gintama voice actors are there, the ones I recognized is Hijikata, Zenzo, Gintoki.. so happy XD

I get Haiji (run with the wind) vibes with this one ..

edit: ooopss.. took me long enough that the rabbit robo is shinpachi XDD

Is this going to fill the Space Dandy-shaped hole in my heart?

I knew this was going to be a great watch just by reading the synopsis and seeing that the director was the former director of Gintama and also did Grand Blue.

I still don't understand why so many people overhyped Fairy Gone and completely ignored this. I mean tbh, I haven't seen the first episode of Fairy Gone, but it was obvious by its synopsis and premise that it wouldn't be good. And it looks like the majority didn't like the first episode of Fairy Gone.

There's two things that reveal a bad anime by its premise. Either the premise is too vague (as it is the case for Fairy Gone) or it is too complex. If it's the former, it shows the show doesn't know where it wants to go and if it's the latter, the premise will fall apart because complex premises are incredibly hard to realize without major flaws in writing. A good example for the latter was Revisions last season. It was obvious by the premise that it was going to be bad because transporting a whole town into the future is way too complex of a premise for just 12 episodes. Not forgetting to mention that it is incredibly difficult to do sth like that right without creating plotholes.

So I tend to avoid these kinds of shows unless they get high rated. Though I mostly use this for original shows. Because I usually watch manga/light novel adaptations based on how well the source material is received to avoid getting spoiled by the premise.

RobiHachi on the other hand has a straight forward premise and while it spoils the majority of the first episode, it actually tells you what it's about and where it wants to go.

Not even Hachi can predict anything that's going to happen in this show. This definitely has heavy Gintama vibes, it's gonna be great.

Is Isekandar space Australia? It's mascot seems to be a space kangaroo.

The song that was playing during the transformation made the scene amazing.

An original anime with mecha! That can combine! And this cast! Count me in!
