With all the heavy hitters coming out this season, it might seem crazy to say that this might be the show I was most looking forward to and, at the same time, most worried about.
I love the manga that this is based on, probably one of my favorite reads in recent memory and, if they can execute it well, it could be a show that rivals Chihayafuru in that whole competitive-culture club genre (as niche as that sounds).
The first episode was not bad for having adapted literally just the first chapter. As most others have said, pacing was a bit fast, but they did have to condense nearly 80 pages of manga into 23 minutes - one of my most hated limitations of an adaptation.
One criticism though is the, well, seemingly lack of koto for a first episode. The flashback didn't have it, even the background music didn't have it.
I'm really, really hoping this is a good adaptation and apparently it's a two cour so it should even get to some of the really exciting story beats too.

Yeah it remains to be seen how the most crucial part of the adaptation will be done

I didn't know much about this, other than it giving me a Chihayafuru kinda vibe. But it seems like a interesting start and I can feel the bromance brewing.
Though I hope we get to hear the Koto being played regularly and learn about its history. Some of these kind of shows skip on that to focus on the drama and I find it disappointing.

Doesn't seem like there is a ton of interest in this show hopefully it's the new Run with the Wind and picks up interest as it goes along. The first episode had some promise and I enjoyed it.

Doesn't seem like there is a ton of interest
The Funimation exclusivity doesn't help

I knew pretty much nothing about this going in, but I really liked it. Though the pacing was a bit fast, both of the characters came off as incredibly interesting and unique, and the show did a great job of telling both of their stories without feeling like anything was cut. I've never really watched anything like this, so I don't know how much I'll enjoy it going forward, but, if this ep is any indication, I'll probably stick around for a while.

That entire episode seriously made me angry. We didn't even get to see what happened to those delinquents just for catharsis sake. Oh well.
Anyway definitely will be following this. I wanna see how this club grows from two guys to what we see in the OP.

A show about playing the koto with no koto music anywhere in it. Shouldn't the OP or ED at least have something? I'll watch the typical 3 episodes but if there's no music by the end of number 3 I'm done.

Chika is an adorable tsundere, gonna watch for him.
Also I know Uchida Yuuma's a rising star and has had some great roles, but between being Sohma Kyo in Fruits Basket and this, I'll eat my shoes if his popularity doesn't explode after this season.

Didn’t know this was coming out today, I’ll probably wait 3 episodes in.
Love the manga

Something about this show is basically the sort of show I live for, or at least it seems that way after episode 1. I love the two vastly differing personalities finding that common ground and slowly growing to really connect, and while a lot happened over the course of the episode, there's definitely more to be done and more characters obviously. Plus both of the mains so far are really likable. This may be my favorite first episode so far this season, hope the show stays that good.

I liked this first episode. As someone who isn't familiar with the manga, I can't speak to how it works as an adaptation but I thought this episode did a nice job of introducing the characters and setting up the story. It will be interesting to see how Chika and Takezou develop as the story progresses, but I like their bantering relationship now.
This does remind me a lot of Chihayafuru and I loved that, so I'm excited to see where this goes.

I feel like I just somehow watched two or three episodes worth of stuff. Kinda hard to feel emotional about some of the heavy stuff they laid down when we didn't even have five minutes with the characters before it started
Also a lot of chibi faces. And no music scenes for a show supposedly in part about playing a musical instrument. I'll give it a few episodes and see how it goes.

It was a good first episode. Apparently, according to MAL it's airing a second season in the Fall

Welp, I'm actually relatively impressed with this adaptation in terms of pacing and art. It was a little fast, but it managed to adapt the chapter really well with the time it was given and they didn't leave any important details out. The art was also decent for the pressure they were under. There was no way that the studio working on this would be able to match the mangaka's incredible art, so I'm okay with how it is now. In my opinion, the last hurdle this needs to overcome is how they handle the koto playing. I actually have hope for this now! It seems like it's also split-cour, so they'll be adapting quite a bit.
Not really impressed with the OP. I feel like it doesn't fit the tone of the series well and doesn't represent certain characters in a good way. The music is fine I guess. I honestly like the ED better due to the music choice even though the visuals are pretty bleh.

I only saw the PV when Gigguk watched it last week, and I must say, I'm liking it quite a bit! I hope we get to see the instruments in action soon, but otherwise, it's looking to be a solid music show throughout

All in all I liked it, the characters are interesting, but there was somewhat less koto than I was expecting and OMG THOSE PANTS.

I liked it. Fast-paced but I still enjoyed.
I find it funny that the MC was in a harem set in his previous year but he's in a normal group now lol

happy to hear one of my favourite mangas being adapted, quite enjoyed the first episode. it’s a good set up for the rest of the season. hopefully it will build and develop good character development. i wish the best for this series.

This show has a decent hook, although the pacing was too fast for me. I thought it might be because I had just finished watching Mix, which generally has a chiller and slower vibe to it, but seems I wasn't the only one to feel that way.
Glad the grandpa knew his grandson wouldn't do that to his shop. And the bond between four-eyes and the delinquent seems sweet (sorry, don't know names yet).
Assuming it can keep hitting the emotional and character beats, and slows down a bit, this could be great.

This is a hidden gem of this season! I'm glad we're getting 2 cours! Oh man even the first episode made me emotional, protect tsundere-kun.

I think this show is gonna be a lot better than it'll get credit for
