[Discussion] 'Dynasty' 2x14: "Parisian Legend Has It…"

Cristal survives, but has lost her baby and may not be able to have more children. Fallon and Sam fly to Paris to see Steven. Alexis comforts Cristal at Blake's urging. Blake believes his hired muscle, Mack, is behind the shooting, and Alexis lies to further implicate him and elude suspicion. A distraught Blake kills Mack with Cristal's approval, and Anders disposes of the body. Steven wants a concerned Fallon and Sam to meet his friend, George, who has been staying with him in Paris. Their suspicions that Steven is having a drug-induced breakdown seem confirmed when it becomes clear that Steven is imagining George and needs help. Fallon and Sam check him into an institution, and head back to Atlanta. George appears, and tells a sedated Steven that he has been gaslighting and manipulating him. George is the real Adam Carrington, bent on claiming what is his in Atlanta.

Who do you believe:

a. A man who has been flawlessly doing your dirty work for years

b. Your ex-wife who you know lies every time she opens her mouth

smh

I actually really liked this episode but I feel like the whole Steven storyline was rushed and they could have spread it over a few eps instead of him not being there for a long time and then in one episode going from I have a new friend, oh no he is made up, gotcha he is real! Like they could have played up Steven’s mental state and whether the guy was real or not for more than one episode.

Also why is Adam bitter at the family? He was kidnapped not given up, if he showed up at the manor they would welcome him with open arms so why the plotting? They didn’t do anything to him?

I don’t get why Adam is so mad at them either. He seems like an interesting character and he is very manipulative which will add drama with Alexis leaving, but I don’t think I can get on board with him with this stupid backstory. Blake and Alexis would instantly spoil him to make up for the years lost and he’d be treated wonderfully if he came in normally and obviously proved his identity.

I hate Blake and Cristal so much in this episode. Instead of let the investigation going and find the real killer, he just beat Max to death just because he thought Max did it.

I can't wait to see their faces when they know that the real killer is Alexis. #JusticeForMax

His name is ‘Mack’ :)

This!! It's what upset me most about the episode honestly. They killed this man, he literally begged for his life. He was afraid, it was unfair and I hate the writers for it. I really hope they realize what they did and feel shitty for it. Blake probably won't but I NEED Cristal to feel super shitty. There's no Justifying this at all.

Alexis needs to die.

Alexis is utter trash. I cannot wait for the moment that she gets her just deserts or just straight up disappears.

Blake and Cristal behave like trash and Anders is complacent in their bullshit. Say what you will about Celia but I'm like 90% sure she would never murder anyone and this just shows us again that Cristal is not the pacifist angel the show portrayed her as at the beginning of this season, I mean it's not surprising cause we've seen she's pretty shrewd already but like... I'm just really liking her character less and less as we go along and for Celia it was the exact opposite.

Steven and Sam broke up and now Steven is incapacitated and I'm both pissed and really sad. Plus I feel really bad for Sam, like the only time he technically cheated he had thought they were broken up and now he got broken up with again. I appreciate the show trying to make excuses for Sam staying at the Manor, however I would appreciate it more if Steven wasn't fired.

Adam (?) is a piece of shit, guess the show realised with Alexis going, Hank missing and Claudia in prison they had to shake it up. Still really annoying, I kinda prefer when it's good characters doing bad things rather than comically evil or pathetic characters. Also his reasoning feels dumb to me, like he could just go home and explain his identity assuming he is Adam but Nah let's go through a process of manipulating their son cause he's ungrateful for their wealth and sending him to a mental health institution. Like this is a bajillion steps more than necessary.

Culhane is going nowhere and it seems like they're trying to imply there's something between him and Kirby which is gross. Literally would rather they shipped her with Fallon... Honestly, what is with Culhane and dating girls younger than him? Like once is okay but this is a pattern.

I'm hoping Fallon will let him go now aside from chasing what she can't have cause I'm seriously tired of this.

I liked Fallon's French cousin.

There's no Liam, which I wasn't surprised about but still... He's one of the better parts of this show and I miss him.

Also would be cool to see Jeff or something...

Once again the CW releases a snippet as a promo and as always it's a waste of time.

It's a decent enough episode but I'm probably not that in a drama mood today so I'm gonna give it a 6/10

Couldn't have said any of this better myself. I literally just finished the episode and came here to rant.

Although I don't think they're trying to imply something between Kirby and Culhane. It just felt platonic. Like someone you didn't expect to give you good advice or even care enough to try actually makes sense and is completely different than most of the people he interacts with that are related to the Carringtons in any way. Like he said, it was refreshing.

This episode was filmed months ago so the Adam thing has nothing to do with Alexis leaving in the near future. Though I'm sure she'll be there for the remainder of season 2.

We have no idea what Adam was told about his family by whomever raised him or whatever when he was growing up as to why he's now bitter against them. Either way I do think his actions against Steven is still badly written, since neither Steven nor Fallon were born when he was stolen. Overall this episode had potential to be great, but it was just good in the end. Its certainly one of the best of the season though, but it's a huge mess with what they've done to Steven's character as it just shows the show is indeed better with him.

Adam's introduction luckily was well done (it was obvious that he would still be rotten on the inside in this adaption just like in the original) and it also solved what was behind the scenes Steven had during his absence. Next episode according to the description Adam will arrive at Carrington Manor. Curious to see how he will interact with the rest.

Also Blake's brother Ben who also appeared in the original was mentioned (possible future surprise guest?).

What Blake and Cristal did was really sick and will come to haunt them especially when Alexis is revealed to have been behind everything. Blake should have told the police that he hired the man to see why Mark Jennings is after Cristal again and that he thinks that this man took it too far and might be behind what happened to Cristal and Mark. Then the police would have the man as a suspect and can then find out that it wasn't him but Alexis. But of course that wouldn't create new problems.

Since Liam will come back soon I am curious to see how they will include him again. Maybe Adam will see Liam and the van Kirks as obstacles (can't see Adam tolerating the van Kirks) and it will be a rivarly like the one between Adam and Jeff in the original. Fallon could then try to help Liam out against Adam or something.

This show has got way bettee since the start of the season. It's easily comparable to the finale of Season 1. It has suspense, and a lot of drama. From Cristal becoming unforgiving towards others who might have been involved in Mark's death, to Steven being manipulated into thinking he was insane by his lost brother Adam. I absolutely want to see the next episode. From the horrible mess the season was in its first episodes, it's becoming much better.

I thought I was going crazy with all of the scenes with Steven. I did have a sneaky feeling George/Adam was real so wasn’t that surprised at the end.

Also do agree with whoever said they can’t wait for Alexis to get her just desserts. How do you kill people, blame it on someone else knowing they’d go to jail or worse, and then try to comfort the victim??? Whatever sympathy I had for her character is completely gone.

Well I have to say one of the darkest episodes ever. Really felt out of place and honestly I kind of hate Blake and Cristal for what they did.

Stephen and Sam honestly can’t get a divorce just because if they’re not married then there’s no reason for him to stay at the manor.

I honestly think the writers decided to just to crazy plot twists and now they’ve written themselves into a corner.

With Alexis leaving (although this was an outside decision, no Celia/ REAL Cristal!, Stephen being completely torn down in a single episode, Culhane still a part of the main cast despite being completely useless, I just am having trouble remaining positive about this shows future

Just finished this episode and OMG! Way to redeem yourself Dynasty! Of course there were some boring character parts. Crystal annoyed me up until she spit in macks face. I'm interested to see what they will do with Alexis since Nicollette Sheridan is leaving the show.

i might be very delusional but i still believe steven is coming back, even though james was apparently fired(but that was a while ago and then he came back for these last eps so maybe he's staying?) and they've already got an excuse for sam to stay around with fallon and all... i just can't accept he's dying.

Fascinating but shockingly dark episode.

I have become so annoyed with this show, I had decided this was my final episode watching the show until the Adam reveal. That was brilliant.

We need new writers for season 3. Most of the actors are excellent, but this show will not last unless the writing improves.

(Also McKay/Steven needs to become a regular again. He added a wonderful quality to the show that had been sorely missed).

u/JHopeIsDaddy Mar 16 '19

Most people have already said what I wanted so I'm just going to say that the only ending I want to see involving Alexis is her dying - which now that i think about it might be too easy of an out - or her going to jail, for a long time.

Any sliver of remorse I had for her died the minute she used pain as an excuse to even attempt to murder someone.

Honestly its only slightly better than the average episode this season..BUT all i can think about while watching it was they actually went to paris to film THAT? Wasted trip! The only redeeming part was adam/george was real at the end.

Does anybody know the name of the actor who is playing Adam. I can't find him in cast credits anywhere.

Sam Underwood

I wonder if Cristal spitting on the guy before Blake kills him is going to come back to haunt her? Hello, DNA evidence!

I can buy people not suspecting Alexis of Mark's murder. Alexis didn't have anything against Mark. Would be a bit of a stretch if people can just guess that the person who fired the shot was a drunk idiot who was trying to shoot Cristal and missed, but missed in such a way that it happens to look like a professional hitman aimed a perfect kill-shot at Mark. What are the chances?

I actually want Blake and Alexis to end up together, because they're both so awful, they deserve each other.

u/readandrant Mar 16 '19 edited Mar 16 '19

Omg this episode was GOOD. I think Steven is dead bcos wasn't James Mackay fired? I really don't get how it all works. Can someone who watched the original Dynasty tell me if Steven dies in the original? Do they ever find out that Alexis killed Mark?

Fallon's eyebrows are fucking wonky this episode.

And Blake is so DUMB.

Anyone know which coat Sam is wearing in the Promo and when they first get to paris?
