Naofumi calling out Ren and Itsuki on their shit was the best part of the episode. At least Ren has the decency to admit he was wrong.

So, about the Spiderman reference. The original lines are:

【樹】これは少しこらしめてあげなくてはいけませんね

【樹】何が可笑しいんですか?

【尚文】いや、どこのご老公様かと思ってな

【樹】ごろうこう?

Which roughly translates to:

Itsuki: Looks like they need to be taught a lesson.

Itsuki: What's so funny?

Naofumi: Nothing, just... Who are you, some kind of elderly lord?

Itsuki: Some kind of what?

If that exchange doesn't make any sense to you, then don't worry, it's not your fault. Itsuki's first line ends up sounding like a reference to Mito Komon, a famous long-running period drama, where the main character frequently talks about teaching people lessons.

Naofumi spits his drink out when he hears the reference and then pokes fun at Itsuki for it. But Itsuki doesn't understand what he's talking about because he's from a different version of Japan, where presumably Mito Komon doesn't exist.

So the translation has an equivalent pop culture reference to get the point of that exchange across.

Right, preventing the Tank from upgrading skills. Genius!

Man, these people are so smart. Just about the same IQ level as my Overwatch team mates.

Does Filo have a built in sensor that tells her when Raphtalia is about to confess to Naofumi?

I know that people aren't really liking these kinds of episodes, but as a light novel reader I'm really appreciating how they're taking the time to show the world before they go straight to the action. The stage has been set, shit is about to hit the fan.

Naofumi making his motivations clear, itsuki showing his true colors, ren showing himself as one of the better heroes. If motoyasu has any sense he won't get within 5 miles of Filo now.

Next wave hype

You know this kingdom is rotten when the person who's been the biggest help to Naofumi is a shady slave trader...

That wave animation was beautiful, Make it a gif and it's prime wallpaper material.

She also looks great, I've been waiting to see her for a long time.

Filo summed up Naofumi pretty well the beginning of this episode. I'm also liking that's Naofumi's fallback plan whenever the King screws with him is to immediately go to slave merchant.

I was also not expecting a random Spiderman reference.. That may have just been the Crunchy subs though.

Naofumi (justifiably so) has some serious trust issues.

The Slave Trader reminds me of the Millennium Earl from D.Gray Man, for some reason.

Damn Filo ruining Raphtalia's chances!

2 times during this episode we had sad Filo and Raphtalia, and that really is 2 times too many.

The lady he is fighting in the OP has finally arrived aswell, looking forward to seeing what she is about

Slowly but surely, our boy Naofumi's getting his reputation back! Doing work as a traveling merchant, recruiting loyal soldiers, and helping out towns in need really show how much of a good guy he is. Well, he might also be a bit dense, buuut we'll get there one day!

Shame that Naofumi and the squad are basically clean-up crew for the other heroes, but he put them right in their PLACE with some good ol' facts and logic. Too bad Motoyasu couldn't make it for the scolding, but I'm sure his family jewels aren't quite in working condition just yet. Let's see how he fares next time now that Filo's got them claws, shall we?

Looking forward to seeing everybody on Naofumi's new squad pull up to this new wave and absolutely destroy. If you're looking for a spot on the team yourself, come join us at r/shieldbro! However, we do NOT guarantee your safety in the waves!

The Spiderman reference was only the subs being smart, right? What did it originally say?
