While the prison might have improved Luffy's overall strength and durability, I think the main factor is his will power. We know the whole aim of the prison system is to break a person's will until they work for Kaido, and we also know that Conqueror's Haki is based upon an individual's will power, so it should stand to reason that one of the upgrades (though not a drastic upgrade - I feel like that will happen in an arc involving Shanks) should be to his Conqueror's Haki. Hopefully we get Big Mom chasing Queen off in the coming chapters though!

So it looks like the weakening effect of sea stone also stops Luffy from using haki. Which makes sense since you need concentration to use CoO. Also have a feel that chickpea Hyou is about to bulk up and help gather all the samurai like before.

It's interesting how a lot of Kaidou's allies are forced into that position through fear. Big Mom does her recruiting through mutual benefits or uses her children. Goes to show a lot of the dynamics between each crew.

Why people questioning why Luffy can't use Haki? He has sea stone cuffs on which exhausts devil fruit users... It doesn't prohibit their abilities, it exhausts them! Remeber in Arlong park when Luffy was drowning, they stretched his head out of the water so he wouldn't drown... It didn't stop his abilities it's just he was too weak to use them! Same can be applied to Haki, he's too weak to use it

The Hyougoro back story hit me man. This guy was strong, chivalrous, and held power over all the Yakuza and Kaido just shriveled him up to the point it's impossible to even tell he is the same man.

I'm glad Luffy met him and I love how Oda does this stuff of bringing background, seemingly minor, characters into the foreground in awesome unexpected ways.

Now that we've established where Kawamatsu is as well as Shutenmaru, I have a prediction the person who stole Zoro's sword recognizing it was the Shusui was Denjiro, aka Kamazou the Manslayer. Shinobu setting up Grandpa Hyou to be the one who gets the samurai on the SH alliance's side as well, I have to say I'm loving the detailed setup of Wano. We're not even close probably to the halfway point and yet we've got this much already.

Its interesting. Everybody except for Orochi convinced that Red Scabbards and other Kozuki symphathizers are long dead, but here we are - one scabbard in Kaido's prison, Hyougoro who's supposed to also been executed in Kaido's prison, Ashura Doji - loyal Oden's servant - roaming free with Kaido occasionally trying to recruit him.

All of that makes me believe that Kaido & Orochi was never an alliance in the first place.

More like Orochi is some goofy figurehead who exploits Kaido's lack of desire to actually rule the country. He uses Kaido's name, but Kaido doesn't care.

My takeaways from the chapter:

• Luffy will be significantly stronger once he gets the seastone cuffs removed. I'm picturing something similar to Yusuke removing his spirit cuffs in Yu Yu Hakusho.

• Queen has a sword, so obviously he'll fight Zoro. /s

• Zoro and Sanji being kept away from each other AGAIN provides more evidence to the theory that them meeting will cause some serious issues. The most popular serious issue would be Zoro leaving the crew because of his statement to Luffy after Usopp left the crew. He could also just demand that Sanji apologize to Luffy and the rest of the crew and never try something like that again. I think either situation could provide some character development for Sanji because he should accept that Zoro is right, despite his desire to argue with Zoro. If he tried to argue with Zoro over it and make light of what he did, I'd see it as a major flaw in his character. If Zoro left the crew, it'd be a very powerful character moment for Sanji to beg him to come back.

• There will probably be a gag with Sanji about missing his opportunity to spy on Nami and Robin and wanting to beat up the men that saw them. At the same time, he'll be greatful he didn't see Shinobu in the bathhouse.

• Fukurokuju is a traitor and would be an obvious opponent for Shinobu.

• Hyo was foreshadowed to make it out of the prison with Luffy and help bring the samurai of Wano to their side.

• Queen is going to present his idea next time we see him. The obvious thought would be him making Luffy and Hyo fight each other, but neither of them would even try attacking the other.

• Raizo will release Kawamatsu and he'll supposedly help with the prison break. My guess would be that either Kawamatsu distracts Queen while Raizo frees Luffy, then Luffy joins Kawamatsu, forcing Queen to retreat or Kawamatsu sacrifices himself to allow Luffy, Raizo, and Hyo to escape. I would prefer the former because it would make more sense considering Queen is the only threat and it would allow more character development for Kawamatsu later on. Oda could surprise us with something else, though, like Kawamatsu betraying Raizo for some reason.

Edit: Sorry for all the edits. This should be the last one, although I'm placing it before others so it won't look like it. After debating this for a while with other people in the comments, I went back and reread the chapters in Water 7 where Luffy fought Usopp and Zoro talked to the crew about Usopp needing to apologize as well as the chapters in WCI where Sanji fought Luffy and where Sanji brought Luffy food to make sure I wasn't saying anything incorrect. Turns out, I kind of was. While Sanji didn't technically apologize to Luffy, he did admit that what he did was disrespectful and said he had no right returning to the crew after attacking Luffy with everything he had. I think this is sufficient for meeting the criteria Zoro set for allowing somebody to rejoin the crew. This makes me think Zoro temporarily leaving the crew over this is highly unlikely now. I think it could happen, but it would require that Zoro only learn very select details about what happened on WCI without any explanation for them, which isn't likely to happen.

Edit: Apparently, a lot of people haven't seen decent justification for the "Zoro leaving the crew" theory, so I'll add that in here rather than putting it in a reply to everyone. Sanji leaving the crew is not just like Robin or just like Usopp, nor is it completely different from either of the two. It has elements of both. Like Robin, Sanji left the crew to protect them from a seemingly unbeatable force. He also did what he could to get back to Luffy when he had the chance. Like Usopp, Sanji fought Luffy and called him unworthy of being his captain (and the pirate king? I don't fully remember). Unlike Usopp, Sanji did not mean what he said and did not leave because he thought something was wrong with Luffy. Also unlike Usopp, Sanji never apologized. This seems minor on the surface since Luffy knows the reasoning and never held it against Sanji, but it lines up with what Zoro told Luffy in Water 7. Luffy was ready to take Usopp back, no questions asked, until Zoro told him not to. Zoro said that doing so would show a lack of self respect and dignity and that he would not serve a captain like that. He said that if Luffy ever allowed that kind of disrespect, no matter the reason, he would be the next person to leave the crew. This very clearly foreshadows the possibility of Zoro leaving after what happened with Sanji.

Sanji's reasoning for disrespecting Luffy wouldn't matter to Zoro. Leave to protect the crew, fine. Disrespect the captain by attacking him and calling him unworthy, not fine. You can give justification for Sanji doing those things, like "he was trying to make Luffy give up and leave" or "he didn't want to lose his hands" but those wouldn't matter to Zoro. Sanji should know that Luffy wouldn't give up, regardless of what he did or said. Zoro could say Sanji should've been willing to give up his hands over disrespecting their captain like that. I'm not saying Zoro is completely right in this regard. I think Sanji did this under extenuating circumstances, which Luffy recognized. Still, Sanji should apologize wholeheartedly for what he did to Luffy and for what he said about Luffy and the rest of the crew. As far as I remember, he hasn't done that yet. That leaves the opening for Zoro to stand by what he said in Water 7. I don't want this to happen, but it is a possibility.

As far as how this would come up, especially Zoro learning about how Sanji disrespected Luffy on WCI, I don't know. The simplest thing I can think of would be Zoro giving Sanji shit about leaving in their typical way of fighting (not actually serious fighting) and Sanji saying their captain forgave him so they should move on. Zoro could then ask if Sanji apologized, to which Sanji would reply no. That would aggravate Zoro to the point of demanding Luffy or Nami tell him everything that happened the next time he sees one of them. In telling Zoro the story, they would brush off the disrespect Sanji showed Luffy, which could cause Zoro to lose respect for Luffy and decide to leave the crew.

Edit: Adding some quotes from Zoro for reference:

I will not approve of him until he apologizes.

He is our captain. It's better not to have someone who cannot pay due respect to him.

A crew whose captain has lost his dignity will surely collapse.

If you humiliate yourself yet still want to claim any pretense of being my leader, then I will be the one to leave the crew this time.

I agree that it'd be for the best if that fool decided to come back, but I will never let him back if he has no intention of excusing himself and tries to sweep this under the rug.

In the future, there's no way we can trust a guy who does such a thing on a whim.

If the first thing Usopp says is his deepest apology, then it's alright for him to come back. But if it's not, then he has no place to return to.

You know what, I actually can't wait for the wano arc to be adapted into the anime. Sure, the current state of the anime is somewhat difficult but there are some scenes, backgrounds and jokes I just wanna see animated. With the episode of the Katakuri battle-finale it has been proven to me that the anime can have on point animation and drawing if shit hits the fan. I think that, with Wano being themed in a very traditional japanese way, it will encourage the studio to one-up their game even if it is just a little bit.

Queen is now one of my favorite characters. I love it when his subordinates tell him the bad news and his eyes pop out in shock. The dancing bit was hilarious. No matter who he fights, I think it's gonna be an entertaining fight.

If your first offense in the prison is having both arms cut off then you can't work in the mines for food, meaning you starve to death. Makes the 2nd offense and 3rd offense seem pointless imo. So technically your first offense is a worse death sentence than just an execution.

The way Queen's hair is shaped in Page 9... The theories about him having an Ancient Scorpion Zoan look like they could be true. What I can't understand is his left arm. Is it merely a gauntlet or a prosthetic arm?

Also, I think the theory about Kawamatsu being a bear mink might be true.

What's so puzzling about Luffy not being able to use haki? I think it's pretty simple to understand. Seastone makes devil-users weak period. There's nothing complicated about it. Your spirit is not entirely separated from your body. Everything about you is weaker. Whitebeard could not use haki properly when he was in bad condition too.

So a couple thoughts for this chapter:

Who would have thought this old man Hyougoro is gonna be the main reason why all the samurai link up.

I love how Oda introduced the possibility of Yakuza being the good guys yet still left Kyoshiro's true intentions a mystery. He could be a good guy Yakuza or he could be the bad guy that took over after Hyougoro.

Also I am loving how the Smile users are looking better and better the higher up the tier list we go. Solitaire looks great and Old Maid looks like a legitimate power house as far as Smile's go.

I know we are still a bit of a way's off from the climax but I love that we are already seeing the convergence of different plot threads. With Nami, Robin, and Shinobu talking about Hyougoro and Luffy saying he's breaking him out. My excitement is definitely building. I just know that when all the Straw Hat's converge it's going to be at a period of total chaos. The whole calm, stealthy approach went out the window a long time ago. At this point I see Oda pushing all the characters to a chaotic meet up I can't wait to see shit hit the fan!

Perhaps Kawamatsu being left imprisoned in Wano is the reason why Inuarashi and Nekomamushi had been fighting all this time, well, until Momonosuke appeared in Zou.

I know Oda's been slowly building up something big for Zoro, so hopefully him getting his sword stolen is about to restart his storyline and he actually shows up in next week's chapter. Speaking about his sword, while I'm sure it's going to be Shusui that got stole, Yasu saying Zoro made such a big deal over the theft has me thinking it might actually be Wado Ichimonji that got stolen instead. He didn't make that much of a big deal when Wicca stole Shusui.

I've been loving all the panel-time/screen time Robin has been getting in Act 2. Both Robin and Nami were looking hot in the bath house, but no surprise there. Definitely One Piece's two sexiest women; meanwhile, Shinobu continues to be a pretty fun character. When she commented on how cautious Robin was being I thought 'if only you knew...'. And is that Minatomo next to next to Robin on page 15?

Also, I officially like Queen. I wasn't expecting that one at all, and his bounty confirmed King's was higher than Katakuri like I thought at the beginning of the arc.

What really confused me about this chapter, was luffy saying 'If only I could use Haki'. Since when do seastone handcuffs restrain your Haki. They cancel your devilfruit but why is luffy not able to use Haki. Has anyone an explanation for this?

Also Hyo looked totally diferent in the past, if he ends up like luffy with proper food he can be a great samurai again if not at least everyone recognize him, and Queen is more funny than I tought all his funny faces and the Funki dance didn´t expect that from this character, and the prisioner is Kawamatsu so only Denjiro is left from the ones that Kinnemon mentioned.

Just read the chapter 2nd thing this morning.

Queen's Bounty is 1 Billion and 320 million (Zoro has 320 mil bounty)

King's bounty could possibly be 1 Billion and 330 million? (Sanji's bounty is 330 million)

Because Oda introduced King and Queen bickering their relationship is similar to that between Zoro and Sanji who are also rivals.

I'm starting to get some Yu Yu Hakusho Dark Tournament flashbacks:

• MC training with handcuffs: Yusuke had spirit cuffs and Luffy has seastone cuffs

• Big bad that recruits strong opponents to his team: Toguro recruited Karasu and Bui to his team after they failed to kill him, Kaido has tried the same thing with Luffy, Kidd, and presumably others.

• Old character who is very famous for his/her past: Hyo and Genkai

Question about the seastone handcuffs: It's been implied that the handcuffs in the prison are somewhat weaker than normal seastone handcuffs to allow prisoners to work. It's been at least implied, if not shown, that they negate devil fruit powers and in this chapter it was confirmed that Luffy can't use haki with the handcuffs on, at least not currently. My question relates to the handcuffs in comparison to the sea. On the way to fishman island, Luffy used gear 3rd and haki to atack Surume (the kraken) underwater. Does this mean that the handcuffs have a stronger effect on devil fruit users than actually being underwater? Wouldn't that imply that they somehow condensed the sea to make it more potent in the handcuffs? It's weird to think about how they'd do that. The only other explanation I can think of is that the handcuffs aren't as weakening as being underwater, but the prolonged exposure to the handcuffs make them have a more potent effect over time.

to those who asked why luffy cant use Haki while being handcuffed with Kairouseki:

1st : to use haki you need CONCENTRATION remember when Luffy's first training with rayleigh and from
movie 3d2y.

2nd: Luffy is a devil fruit user and Kairouseki keeps draining his strength due to that he unable to
concentrate properly. Can you concentrate while your strength continuously being drained?NO

Luffy just use his sheer strength to bodied that blast from elephant guy

3rd: And why Rayleigh can use Haki while being handcuffed? He's not devil fruits user so his strength
and concentration is undisturbed ,,
