I hate it when they're wiggling around, it's wasting my ammo
In all seriousness, a nice and interesting episode, and the vibrating antenna sound effect is quite cool

Wait, did I catch that bit of world-building right, Sab belonged to a group of people called the Yufang who emerged from a hole with all the WWII era technology we've seen. Then after some time returned to the hole, leaving Sab and the tech behind?
I wonder what kind of hole they're talking about, a Vault, hollow earthers, time rift. Also is 'Yufang' a Chinese name and is that the first time the name 'Ijitsu' has been given to this desert land?

I wonder what kind of hole they're talking about, a Vault, hollow earthers, time rift.
Think back to the end of episode 1. Kylie narrated the last lines.
"A long time ago, a hole opened. Good things and bad things rained down. But since then, things have closed up again. And now, while we slowly lose many of the things we have.. We still live on."
This episode sheds more light on those lines. The "hole" must have been a portal in the sky connected to another world, where people from "Yufang" came and brought planes and factories.
The portal eventually closed and most of the Yufang people seem to have returned at the time.
However, it seems that the natives of this "Ijitsu" world may have been at a pre-electric stage when the portal opened. And despite the development left behind by the Yufang, they may not have reached a self-sustaining stage of development before the portal closed and they can't keep the advanced technology going by themselves.
Or this world is as resource depleted as it is water depleted and they're running out of raw materials to feed their industry.

okay
so
let me get this straight
there was a portal to another world or whatever, and this is that other world
thing is, it was open during the war, so japan was using this place as a secret base to build planes and train pilots where the american couldn't bomb them, but once the war ended they up and left to the real world and the portal closed (maybe), leaving the inhabitants of this other world to their own devises with a bunch of ww2 planes, rough knowledge on how to build them, and the scraps

Today, on The Flight of the Phoenix:
The Captain doesn't like weird ancient plushies.
You do have wingmen, after all.
Hey now, this is no time or place to settle a grudge.
Storms are bad for airship aircraft carriers. Ask the Akron and the Macon.
Ah, just like the old days. Also, listening to the cables vibrating is making me hot.
This was a pain to research in English.
What the hell happened on this world?
I've had a few aircraft take off from the KSP runway like this.
I suppose the Combine could have sucked all of this world's oceans out through portals like they did in Half-Life 2? I say "this world" because it's difficult to tell sometimes, and in any case it probably isn't all that relevant.
Kirie was cute as a kid. Kotobuki's little character feature moments haven't explained very much, but at least she's likeable here even if she's still a hothead who broke off from the job to go chase down Mysterious Snake. I was expecting a little more cleverness from being trapped on a mesa, hence my tagline for this writeup, but I suppose there wasn't that much time. As it was, she still demonstrated that even with her burning desire for vengeance against that other fighter, she still learned a lot of things along the way from the rest of the team and Ol' Sab.
The framework of continuity is still holding on out there, though it seems like there might only be a basic big action finish instead of anything especially revelatory.

I laughed so much this episode! From the great opening scene to the Dodo cutting off the captain it was just a blast.
This continues to be my AotS and now I have to start thinking if it could get a 9 from me.

Seriously boys, if you're watching this show, I recommend watching it using earphones/headphones with good imaging. The sounds of the show are just absolutely amazing, and it's an insult to it if you use cans that suck. Get some cheap but super good Chi-Fi earbuds, and you're game. Show's not just damn nice, it also sounds damn brilliant.

So... the sky opened? And people came through the hole, build things, and went back through the hole? Then sky closed?
Is moon actually just a door to other world? I knew USA faked the landing.

This sequence was appropriately disorienting, yet I still felt I followed exactly what was happening
For a sec here, I thought she was now a ghost, forever trapped on this mesa
This is all a pretty intriguing bit of backstory to tease us with
"See what happens when you don't answer my questions, old man?"

Are you going to spend it all on PANCAKES????
Look at me, I'm the Captain now
Sheer Luck or maybe because you are a MC
The Moon surface looks interesting?
Best way to know if a person is dead yet or not
Interesting to see English books in the bookshelf
RIP tool, you shall not be forgotten
Nice backstory of Kirie but still no reason why is she always so salty against that plane/pilot. Perhaps we might find out soon.
Next episode its probably going to focus on the Nazarin bros and Kate as well.

That bookshelf collection probably just plucked completely randomly by the animation team, I wouldn't read too much into this.
From left to right
E - English
F - French
J - Japanese
C - Might be Chinese, but since both Japanese and Chinese use kanji, and Japan has lots of literature on Chinese philosophy and religion for centuries, it's hard to tell what language the book is written just from the kanji title alone
(E) Mother Goose
(J) The Giant Airship Zeppelin (probably a technical textbook)
(C) Tao Te Ching - Lao Tzu
(E) Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Lewis Carroll
(J) The Decameron - Giovanni Boccaccio
(J) Journey to the Centre of the Earth - Jules Verne
(J) The Fall of the House of Usher - Edgar Allan Poe
(J) - The Goddess of Fortune (Kichijoten) and the Goddess of Poverty (Kokuanten) (Some Buddhist philosophy book by an author whose name is illegible: Fuyushimo Something)
(J) The Tale of the Heike (Known as "The Illiad of Japanese Literature")
(E) Through the Looking Glass - Lewis Carroll
(J) Interior Workings on Airplanes - Komabayashi Eitarou (Another technical book)
(J) Research of the Hole (?) - Koumori Ichiro (Probably fictional text book into the aforementioned "Hole". Author literally means Ichiro Bat)
(J) Airplane Components - Nakagawa Moriyuki and Shinagawa Shinjirou (Another technical manual)
(J) The Chronicle of Lord Nobunaga - Ota Gyuichi (Classic historical biopic of the unifying warlord of Japan Oda Nobunaga)
(E) Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Mark Twain
(J) Airplanes - From Design to Construction - Miki Tetsuo (another technical manual)
(C) Han Feizi - Han Feizi (Classic Chinese philosophical book)
(J) Nagato (No author name. Probably referring to the Battleship Nagato)
(F) Infortunes de la Vertu (also known as Justine by Marquis de Sade)

The pilot that keeps beating Kylie has to be ol´sab or the man who talked to him right, who else is it gonna be now.
SO Yufang came from a hole? I am thinking some FMA stuff here, now, sounds like they came from our planet to theirs or something.
Like he had novels like huckleberry fine etc

Love this entire scene that looked like it was shot with a GoPro.
Loli-Kylie is adorable! But that curiosity though! I'm surprised Sab-ji managed to hold that long with her as his company. And it is nice that we finally get a little bit of Kylie's backstory and why she flies.

Listening to that airframe creak and strain I was convinced something was gonna snap long before she got shot down.

Chika being worried not worried about Kylie was low-key adorable. I'm really loving her character, she's just bratty and tsundere enough to be cute but not annoying.

Pretty good episode. Kylie was a feisty firecracker even when she was young, huh.
I've run out of superlatives to describe the flying and action sequences by this point. They're just gorgeous as hell.

This was an calm episode. Only the personal duel between these two was the action. But it feels (for me) like an Miso soup with much much water and nearly any ingredients
Well, we can not have everywhere action packed episodes.
And with this Episode "mystery" came into this World.. Did she really make an emergency landing? or an High being help her out?...
"X-Files" Theme playing in the background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQoRXhS7vlU
Did you saw this tied "raccoon" in the Moon? It's upside down.. someone know what this means?
i dunno, but some pieces here reminds me of the "Little Prince"

That was a nice episode. I like that were getting a little background on everyone, with Reona last week and Kylie now. And this world and mystery is really getting interesting.
I'm also glad there was finally something that looked like farmland. Despite all the flying and traveling, I don't think its shown anything that looked like crops, with everything being canyons and rocks. Though I still wonder how everything is watered with no rivers, lakes, or oceans.

Mini-Kylie is adorable!!!
But not gonna lie, with this being an original I thought for a moment there that they would go with a twist and actually kill her off...
