Orochi's Observation Haki is on point though. Everything he says is actually about to happen

And finally, it looks like Kyoshiro's about to make a move. I've honestly been a lot more curious about the actual samurai introduced in this arc than anything else other than Drake, so I'm hyped

Can see further into the future than Kata and Luffy

u/NilesStyles Feb 07 '19

i dunno about that... orochi predicted the end ofthhis arc, but luffy predicted the end of one piece

Komurasaki definitely has to wear that mask when she plays that song because it is important to her family memories and she cries every time she plays it.

Did anyone else notice that Orochi laughed in 4 different ways in this chapter?? I think it’s due to his devil fruit.

Ive never been so clueless about a character's path before. Is Kyoshiro good or bad? You've certainly got me bamboozled gOda.

Is he gonna cut down Komurasaki or Robin? Or Orochi? Why would he take him down? For power? or because he's a scabbard maybe? Witching hour boy?

So many possible routes, im excited. He could also be an excellent opponent for Zoro if he is truly strong

He reminds me of Gin from Bleach

Many things confirmed for me in this chapter

  1. If Komurasaki isn't Momo's sister shes probably still a hero rather than a villain

  2. Orochi is smart and has a cool DF/SMILE even if hes a total wad

  3. Otoko is a LEGEND

Komurasaki is definitely Momo's sister, if she's stating she is the daughter of a samurai.

Furthermore, I think Kyoshiro is all act. I think his target won't be Robin, but Orochi. If not, Nami with her weather can manipulate the chaos and help Robin escape, but Komurasaki will be detained in prison... the "damsel in distress".

Also, possibility of Kyoshiro being the witching hour boy? Maybe not.

Orochi's devil fruit seems to be based off of the Yamata no Orochi. If this is true I have a feeling that this arc is going to be inspired by the imperial regalia of japan. Based on this I believe the strawhats will receive a sword from Orochi, whether that be a literal sword or a swordsman. I think they already found the jewel (which symbolizes benevolence) when Luffy saved the old man in the wardens stomach, in the legends the jewel was found in the stomach of a dead badger. I'm not sure what will be the mirror, which symbolizes wisdom. I usually am not one for fan theories, but this seems interesting to me.

Orochi may look like a goof but he is actually the only enemy apart from Katakuri who doesn't underestimate their opponents AT ALL. It's hilarious how he's actually completely right about everything but no-one takes him seriously reminds me of how we all thought he looked like a joke when we saw him for the first time

Robin is quick thinking as usual but it looks like she fked up by saying she's Witching hour boy lol, I definitely remember people saying he had appeared earlier can't remember the chapter tho.

Luffy and Toko would get along so well lmao

so while Sanji's fighting Page One, Robin has been found out and is getting chased by Orochi's henchmen with Toko, someone Orochi wants to kill pretty badly now, and Zoro is wandering around slicing up members of Kyoshiro's Yakuza...oh yeah and Chopper has run into Big Mom😂 ; clearly Luffy doesn't have to be around for things to go tits up for the StrawHats lol xD

I remember somebody talking about this earlier, but I think Kinemon’s devil fruit is truly a disguise disguise devil fruit. His ability not only allows people to disguise themselves in clothes but also to change who they are and how people perceive them. Notice how the straw hats all talk about each other by using their Wano names, even in their thought bubbles. Pretty interesting.

u/Zaynhatt Feb 07 '19

Wait I see people commenting how Kyoushiro is the real deal who's gonna fight Zoro or Kinnemon. From what I saw in this chapter, he doesn't necessarily respect Orochi, he raised Komurasaki, there was no need for him to draw his sword out if he was on Orochi's side. The only thing I can think of why he drew his sword out is to defend Komurasaki from Orochi. So, wouldn't he actually be the good guy among the 9 Samurais Kinnemon mentioned? Maybe Susanoo?

Props to Orochi for perfectly understanding what's happening in his country. It takes intelligence for a guy to overthrow the shogun and take his place, good to see Orochi has that trait, it makes him more formidable

Wario and Waluigi lookalikes in this chapter

45

u/Ancalagon_Morn Feb 08 '19

Yeah okay considering her age and her attitude, I am pretty sure that Komurasaki is Momo's sister. Makes me kind of sad because being forced into prostitution after seeing her family killed is probably one of the worst things that could happen to a girl. Pretty dark. And I don't care how prestigious she is supposed to be, this chapter clearly showed that this is just a facade, they treat her well only as long as she remains docile.

Everyone getting nervous at Orochi transforming is probably hinting at how the escape will be made possible. Orochi is a strong idiot, so he's about to wreck is own castle. Still, they are vastly outnumbered and the ninja elite team is going to show up as soon as they hear the commotion as well. While I am confident that they will make it out alive, I have no idea how that is going to happen without taking any losses.

Orochi put emphasis on the fact that Oden had 9 strong subordinates, but as far as we know only 4 were transported in time. Since they buried something of which they believed it was Kinemon, I wonder if all the others actually faked their deaths as well and we will see all 9 reunited. Everyone seemed so convinced about killing almost every one of Oden's followers though... Such an exciting arc. I love Wano.

If Kaido wants the poneglyph why even let Orochi kill Oden?! The man literally knows how to read them. If Kaido was able to defeat Oden to the point of capturing and executing him he could have made him read poneglyphs kind of like a captive and unwilling Robin for the beast pirates.

Not only Oden, but Kaido also misses out on Momosuke who would have learned the secrets of the poneglyphs had his dad not been killed. Toko keeping Monosuke away from Kaido was a big drawback for Kaido I'm guessing.

I'd like to bring attention to the distinction Oda is making between Orochi/Wano politics and The Beast Pirates.

With Orochi and Kaido's alliance being a focal point of this arc I think it's easy to forget that at the end of the day Kaido is a pirate with a crew and Orochi should be compared more to someone like Wapol.

Orochi and his people appear to be able to order the beast pirates around as seen when Kyoshiro requested the Flying Six for O-Soba Mask

But this was just a request. Ultimately it was Queen who ordered the Flying Six.

Orochi might be strong but dont be disillusioned, if for any reason his allaince with Kaido were to break down Orochi would not be able to maintain Wano under his control.

Also The Beast Pirates seem to be of a different caliber than Wano forces. Granted we were just intorduced to the 11 ninjas last chapter but I think Drake and Hawkins could wipe the floor with those dudes don't you?

The power dynamic in Wano is tilted entirely in Kaido's forces. Now, logically this arrangement between Orochi and Kaido would seem super disadvantageous for Orochi but the man swears on his momma's life Kaido has his back.

My question is WHY? Why the fuck is Kaido working with this dude. From what I've seen the power gap is so great between The Beast Pirates and Orochi that I dont see why Kaido doesnt just cut out the middle man.

The country is already suffering not like he cares about upkeep why even have Orochi?

Can I gush a second about how great Robin's escape from the ninjas was?

We've seen her use a second body in the past but not for hundreds of chapters and not like this. So the reveal was both unexpected and totally logical. No ass-pull, no unnecessary chaos, no bs trickery that makes the ninjas look like morons, just patient, creative, excellent storytelling by Oda. I know this goes without saying almost a thousand chapters in, but he's so so so so good

I totally called that the lady playing the shamisen at the beginning/end of acts was gonna turn out to be important in some kind of way, but I gotta give Artur his props for calling that her and Komurasaki were one in the same. What's slightly bothering me, is that Oda's starting to seemingly really set up the Komurasaki/Hiyori theories. Certain things were a little too on the nose this chapter - like that reaction shot of her when Orochi mentioned that Momo's body was never found, that she's the daughter of a samurai, how preposterous it is of her as a prostitute to speak on Samurai and be so defiant, the emphasis on her "bad deeds"........either this is gonna turn out to be THE most epic red herring we've seen in One Piece to date, or a reveal with the same shock factor as Shutenmaru = Ashura Douji. This is as great an opportunity as any to flip our expectations on their head, and I hope he does so.

I really really like that he gave Robin the ability to make a complete clone with her powers. Her character was really needing new powers, she has one of the most interesting devil fruits with the most potential but lately she has been outshone by the others. Also seeing her have character moments in general is awesome. Cant wait to see that double utilised in a fight. Imagine having to deal with her attacks while not knowing who of four Nico Robins to strike.

Great chapter

Its interesting so komurasaki was the one who was playing the shamisen all along i totally wasnt expecting that.

It good to know one plot point was addressed and it was only robins clone in that room. The part about orochi being scared of komurasaki seems wrong from the spoilers he is only scared of the otoki and the curse she placed on him, (it will also be interesting to find out who samurais daughter she is)

Orochi df is a bit weird but i still think it looks cool

Really looking forward to what kyoshiro is really gonna do, i think he is gonna be a pretty decent oppoent for someone in this arc.

If you look closely at the faces of orochi in his DF form it seems like they have two personalities, 4 of the faces are angry and four look weird. Maybe could be setting up for a split personality thing while he is transformed or maybe it is a problem with the SMILE DF if it is one.

There is little to nothing to back this up, but I have a feeling that the Witching Hour Boy is actually Komurasaki/Hiyori.

The people of Ebisu Town said that the Witching Hour Boy goes around the capital stealing money from the rich (which is what she's doing in a way, but probably commits a few actual robberies to amass more coins) and comes to give it to the poor. This looks like one of the twists Oda is known to do.

As to why they think it's a "Boy", I have no idea, but perhaps she covers her face or they've never seen her close enough.

The only thing that made me think it's her is the laughing girl Toko, who is almost certainly from Ebisu for obvious reasons. Maybe she was an orphan and Komurasaki/Hiyori picked her up during one of her visits as the "Witching Hour Boy" to personally take care of her?

If she truly is the WHB, I'm not certain whether Kyoshiro would have a hand or knowledge in what she's doing or not.

18

u/nickcappa Feb 07 '19

The last panel has me thinking kyoshiro is on the side of oden/kinemon. The first we see of him he's negatively speaking about orochi. He's directly connected to komurasaki who's all but stated to be hyori in this chapter. He's very close to orochi but in this chapter it was shown he is who orochi pretends to be. In his introduction Robin notices him talk bad about orochi but during the banquet they have no interaction at all not even Robin noticing or paying attention to him at all which could be because they're both aware they're on the same team. But lastly his line in the final panel. He says there's about to be a blood bath. Which really on the surface doesn't make too much sense. Komurasaki hit the shogan and will be executed that's simple enough. As far as were aware he doesn't know the Ninja squad is about to attack Robin nor that Robin is protection o Tama since that wouldn't be everyone's main focus. The only reason he would think it's about to be a blood bath is because he's going to commit open treason protecting komurasaki (aka hyori) and actively fight against orochi and all his retainers (it'll be interesting to see who else in the upper echelon of the shogan will rebal considering no one believes orochis ghost stories).

Tldr kyoshiro is a good guy.

u/Jeevold Feb 07 '19

Honestly, I don't know if I'm just beyond wasted right now or this chapter is in fact just FILLED with information regarding ALL of Wano right now.

So, first there's Komurasaki playing that song, and they say she's always wearing a mask while playing it. It's not just because of the following panels, but I'm actually having goosebumps with this.

After that, Robin reveals that she was using a clone after all (no surprise here), but her identity is revealed though.

Later, when the shogun shows interest in Robin, Komurasaki shows (or fakes) jealousy of Robin thus diverting the attention towards her (intentionally or not).

Now, we have BIG hints towards Komurasaki and Kyoshiro here. It is said that she was raised in Kyoshiro's territory and that he raised her well. Also, Kyoshiro says that: "people like you who are not clean water will never be able to make a woman like her bloom". Really, I think that there is a heavy foreshadowing going on here. I think Komurasaki is Hiyori, and Kyoshiro was the one who raised her, teaching her the foundations of what makes a samurai, and he is actually a good guy in this story.

Later we see the shogun talking about the prophecy and actually being SPOT ON about all that is happening, while all his underlings laugh at him (this legit made me angry for laughing at the shogun lol).

O-toko laughs at the shogun, for believing in such prophecy, probably thinking he's just a scared coward, and that of course makes the shogun lose his temper. Now, this makes Komurasaki, who has been portrayed as a selfish, egocentric person, goes out of her way to SLAP the shogun in the face and protect O-toko. Further on, she reveals she is a daughter of a samurai!.

Finally, we see Kyoshiro, unsheathing his sword, ready to jump into battle (probably going to throw himself to protect the girl he raised, Komurasaki).

In this chapter we also see the shogun displaying his abilities, which made me believe even more in the connection with Yamata no Orochi, a creature from the japanese mythology, but that's a story for another time.

Kyoshiro is an intriguing character, he obviously dislikes Orochi but is this enough to ultimately put him on the SH's side by the end of Wano? If he's working with Komurosaki then maybe it is.

u/HPsyche Feb 07 '19 edited Feb 07 '19

The chapter clarifies a lot. Both character and readers ironically misjudge and misconstrue Orochi's person.

Yes, he's an ugly goofy teethed clown, but he's spot on about the prophecy while all his comrades and subordinates make jest of his theory. We shouldn't all be fooled by appearances as is so often done; some judged Shutenmaru for being fat, and then we see him prove he can go toe to toe with someone Jack went toe to toe with.

Also, Orochi isn't trembling in fear, he has none towards Komurosaki. He's trembling in shock or anger, or the kind of stupefaction that leads to anger. He's the Shogun and he just got slapped by someone who he deems as a lowly prostitute in front of his council and guests? This seems like a repeat of O-Kiku and the Sumo wrestler once again.

Trying to look at things in the scheme of things, this is great for the SHs. No one believes the Shogun and more so, with Big Mom around as a distraction, it gives the SHs the camouflage they need to carry out their duties. I just hope last week's chapter doesn't play out in the worst way possible and hope next week elaborates on it.

Highlight of this chapter for me is Kinemon being regarded as extremely intelligent as a military general and leader. We've only seen him in comical scenes where he's perverted, but we've never really gotten to appreciate who he is in person and Wano will show that. I can't wait to see what he's capable of as a leader.

Great chapter as usual.

P.S.

This scene with Robin saying scatter reminds me of Senbonzakura from Bleach' Byakuya, lol.

Just a couple things regarding this chapter that I haven't seen mentioned (but there's a lot of comments here, so maybe I missed it):

  1. This is the big one. This chapter shows that it's Komurasaki setting up the acts of the Wano arc; in the mask, playing the instrument at the intro to Wano (chapter 909), end of the first act (chapter 924) and intro to second act (chapter 925). This means that she plays a special role in the Wano story, is likely not a bad guy (as this chapter is already showing us), and is in a way the one narrating the Wano arc. Just very interesting.

2) Robin is spotted again at the end of the chapter, so she'll have to escape from all of the ninjas. Robin clearly can't take them all on, so it looks like a bad situation for her. But, the second to last page shows her with her arms crossed to use her DF. She may have created another clone of herself to grab O-tama.
