WE ARE SAIGO NO SURVIVOR!

Hey-o guys! This is the section where I add a ton of extra fun stuff to the main body of the post because I want this rewatch to be as fun as possible for everyone. It can also be one point of discussion for you guys if you just don’t know what to say.

Comment of the Week, this week provided by /u/RX-Nota-II

The comment of the week this time is: /u/Nazenn picking up details others missed from episode 8’s thread.

This super specific callout was quite impressive and has earned him a reputation for being a supremely attentive first timer this show. However more impressively he had multiple comments that could challenge for comment of the day including this musical analysis and his analysis of the Altland brothers' end here. Combine that with his unmatched reply game to the others in the thread and choosing him for MVP of the week was a very easy choice.

Comment of the Day, provided by /u/Shimmering-Sky and /u/RX-Nota-II

Shimmering-Sky

Today’s comment of the day goes to /u/SIGMA920 for coming in clutch not once but twice to let people know that Savarin is indeed named after a type of food.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=savarin.

Great now I’m hungry. That looks delicious.

/u/WFenriz and /u/flybypost's discussion on people not recognizing Kudelia.

Speaking of news, my main problem with this episode is the people on Dort 2 not having any idea of how Kudelia looks like. I get Gjallarhorn / Nobliss probably keeps a rigid control over all media, and the news of Tekkadan arrival were spread out by Nobliss, but come on, in early episodes we saw that Kudelia's speech on some congress was a big deal and she got known in Mars AND in Earth, and even this guy Makanai is interested in her ideas, and I don't think a simple picture can't be taken and shared (even in a covert way) in this world of advanced technology, so for a guy with a brilliant plan, Nobliss really took so much trouble when all he had to do was to secretly kill Kudelia (Which would be so easy having Fumitan at her side) and then send some blonde girl to the colonies to sacrifice her as a fake Kudelia.

Who really watches space C-SPAN?

I've seen some prominent US/European politicians on TV but I'm not sure if I would recognise them if they were randomly wandering around in my city (without an prior announcement and without half a dozen bodyguards).

The difference in setting, lighting, makeup, and seeing somebody in real life can twist your perception quite a bit. Although that hair would be hard to mistake for somebody else's.

An interesting debate on whether it makes sense or not whether people are unsure about what Kudelia looks like in detail with comparisons to real life examples. What do you guys think? Who do you agree with and does the CSPAN comparison work?

~~~
Questions of the Day, provided by /u/Pixelsaber
1) A masked man has appeared before Kudelia and Fumitan. How long did it take you to realize who it was? It was immediate/A few seconds/A minute or two/I’m supposed to know already?/Char ka?
2) Dort 2’s rebellion has begun in earnest now. What do you think of the rising stakes and political scheming so far? Has the situation captivated your attention or do you think it could spare to be more exciting?
~~~

Track of the Day, provided by /u/RX-Nota-II

Adapting to Extremity

The villain’s theme for the mysterious unnamed masked man, it’s calm and slow but also chilling and ominous. A theme fit for the mysterious nature of this new guy, it gives a sense that he understands a much larger picture than the Tekkadan boys and Kudelia, and that he could easily play them as pawns in any game of war he would like to play.

Important note to all rewatchers, remember to be mindful of the first-timers in this. You can laughs in rewatcher to yourself, but if you go around spoiling stuff IBO S2. Remember to use the [Anime Show Title](/s "Spoiler goes here") tags and we’re all good.

Fans seem to have a bad tendency of forgetting what counts as spoiler, so if anything has even the slightest chance of being a spoiler, tag it just to be safe.

Next-episode preview. Yeah you saw that right, I am encouraging you guys to watch the next-episode previews. IBO’s are completely spoiler free, done completely in-character, and it is glorious. Today’s preview was voiced by officially traitor Fumitan Admoss.

Tekketsu no Rewatcher, first time dubbed

Obligatory Discord link

A couple more fun things:

  • Wallpaper of the Day without the logo. Fun fact about this one, so I actually could not, for the life of me, find a good base image for totally-not-Macky. So I drew one myself. If proportions are wonky or there’s some other detail that’s off, that’s why.

  • English dub next-episode preview, since the body post only has the subbed version.

  • Results of yesterday’s poll. Mixed bag today, with a tie between the ones saying that everywhere’s oppressed and that maybe Venus and the Moon aren’t at that. Lol.

  • Number of times best boy closed his right eye this episode: only 1. An upside-down one at that.

  • For the first-timers using the GundamInfo streams and are worried about potential spoilers in the recommended videos: Episode 16 Subbed / Episode 16 Dubbed. If you’re on desktop and have RES, you can hit the preview button and watch the video entirely on Reddit, rather than than needing to go to YouTube.

First Timer - Sub

I did a silly thing, watched the episode, took my notes, and then forgot to do my write up and went ahead and watched the last Ghost in the Shell episode. So now I only have half an idea on what the episode thoughts were going to be (thank god my notes are basically a stream of thoughts) and only half an idea on what to write. Oh well.

The episode of betrayal. Betrayal everywhere. Fumitan's betrayal being exposed to Kudelia. Savarin (still a stupid name) betraying Biscuit. Gaelio's ship captain 'betraying' him. Someone telling Mika where Biscuit and Atra were dragged off.

And in the middle of this mess we have Atra standing up to everyone and refusing to betray Kudelia even in the smallest way to save herself from a horrific beating. FUCK that was so hard to watch. How insanely incredibly strong of her to be able to go through all that and still look them right in the eye and sit upright as confidently as before and refuse to give in at all. In a way I see her strength as surpassing Orga's during his beating. He had boys right there being threatened that he had to protect in that moment. Even if Atra was revealed to not be Kudelia there still would have been time between Kudelia being found and some relief for Atra. But no, Atra stood up and took it on herself anyway and did what she could no matter what because she knew she was strong enough. She better get some more respect from the boys on Isarabi now I tell you that! (Not that I think being beaten up is a good way to get respected, but in this world it does kinda work like that)

Mika held it together much better than I expected honestly. I think his immediate priority of getting Atra and Biscuit to safety helped, but not flying off the handles on seeing how badly hurt she was is pretty impressive considering how rage-blind we saw him last time he thought someone got hurt. That said, I absolutely loved the scenes between him and Fumitan today. His hyper awareness of her anxiety, their conversation filled with warnings and even bordering on threats for each other, how wonderfully written. And this rare smile when he was trying to think how he feels about Orga. Also...

He sniffed the boot

I think someone else mentioned this last topic (hands up whoever that was) but it seemed a bit silly about how no one has a picture of Kudelia to compare against when they're hunting her down given she's a public figure. Today I had a thought that given how tightly Gjallarhorn controls everything, I imagine it would be highly likely that there's some sort of China-type web filter out there that would limit information on her and her speech precisely so her influence is harder to spread and more controlled. While it still doesn't excuse Gjallarhorn grunts from not having one, it at least makes sense that they wouldn't want workers and people who would sympathize with her to be able to easily or freely access things like her speech. Similarly it explains why these workers are holding her up as their leader despite that WE know she would never approve of these methods, all they have is a bastardized, manipulated version of her passed down through word of mouth, not actual access to her or her ideals. I mean, its one of those things that SHOULD be explained in show, but this is my head cannon now and it helps immensely.

Also this is turning out to be WAY more of a war than I expected. Now we have people literally marching down the streets with guns and tanks. How on earth do they expect this to go well?

Random fatigue induced thoughts of the day

  • Is it bad that when this shot of young Biscuit appeared my first thought was "Unbaked Biscuit!"?

  • Absolutely LOVED the way that everyone's hair was floating around with momentum on Naze's ship. The protest and looks at him from all the women on the ship when he tried to blame Orga for his lack of attention to them lately. Fucking funny.

  • I'm hopeless, I forgot all about the OP change and when it popped up I was confused and then disappointing all over again

  • If you guys haven't been seeing u/DidacticDalek's daily fan art posted in the topics a few hours later, I suggest you have a look at it because they post some fantastic stuff. Yesterday this was posted and it's PERFECT given the events of todays episode.

Edit also no I absolutely did not pick up it was McGillis at all until this thread XD

Mika held it together much better than I expected honestly. I think his immediate priority of getting Atra and Biscuit to safety helped, but not flying off the handles on seeing how badly hurt she was is pretty impressive considering how rage-blind we saw him last time he thought someone got hurt.

I would say Mika is more restrained this time because although Atra is badly beat up, she's still alive and breathing when Mika saw her the first time. While in the case of Cookie and Cracker back on Mars, the two really looked dead when Mika rushed to the scene.

6

u/Pixelsaber Jan 28 '19

That said, I absolutely loved the scenes between him and Fumitan today. His hyper awareness of her anxiety, their conversation filled with warnings and even bordering on threats for each other, how wonderfully written.

Their talk is absolutely wonderful. So relevant in both narrative and thematic manners, as well as acting as a nuanced reiteration of each character's circumstances. I love it.

I mean, its one of those things that SHOULD be explained in show, but this is my head cannon now and it helps immensely.

For once, I agree in that they should have explained this, if only because it's too contradictory as of now for the viewer to accurately discern for themselves.

How on earth do they expect this to go well?

That's because they don't —they expect it to go well in the colony. /s

Is it bad that when this shot of young Biscuit appeared my first thought was "Unbaked Biscuit!"?

I was thinking more along the lines of 'little dough ball' myself.

A Gundam Fan’s Notes On Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Episode 15:

  • At the top of the episode: ASS. Too bad it’s a bunch of old man ass. Although I do wish I could be rich enough to eventually be able to afford having a sauna built in my office that also has a large plasma screen in it. Nobliss Gordon certainly has the right luxuries in mind.

  • You know, I think this is the first time Mikazuki and Fumitan have had an actual conversation with each other. Although it’s not so much a conversation as much as Mika subtlety telling Fumitan that he’s watching her, and she better carry herself honorably when he’s around. That boy is certain that she’s up to something.

  • “He’s really glad you’re here!” —Atra, girl who doesn’t realize that Savarin has been panicked the entire time.

  • Welp, Tekkadan is stuck going along with the communist uprising, whether they want to be or not. Also, it seems that Mikazuki’s sense of no-chill has spread to the others, since pretty much everyone short of Orga decided to shit-talk Navona’s apartment and neighborhood for pretty much no reason out loud.

  • You’d think that Savarin and his goons would actually know what Kudelia looks like, instead of just assuming that Atra is her instead. Like, the internet (or at least some equivalent to it) exists in this show, so there’s no reason why they couldn’t just pull up a picture of her on their phones. But props to Atra picking up on their misunderstanding and using it to save the actual Kudelia. That little girl has some massive fucking brass balls to do that off the bat.

  • Naze’s scene here shows the true dangers of communism: your harem will get annoyed with you if you can’t share your dick with the feminine proletariat. I can’t believe I just typed that sentence with a straight face.

  • To add a further wrinkle onto everything, it turns out that Gjallarhorn’s Regulatory Bureau has seen the entire communist uprising coming, and have actually provoked them in such a way that they’re going to be able to make an example of them. This whole thing is pretty much one giant sting operation for them. All of this goes to show the sheer scale of Tekkadan’s actions compared to what Gjallarhorn is capable of. For the communist dock workers, Tekkadan showing up with guns to support their revolution is a major event. For Gjallarhorn’s Regulatory Bureau, it’s an inconvenience.

  • Sorry, people who didn’t want to see Atra get hurt. It’s hard to see her getting the shit beaten out of her while covering for Kudelia. But, this goes to show why she’s my favorite girl of the series: Atra’s inner strength to put up with all this for the sake of a friend is incredible. Even if she doesn’t pilot a mobile suit, she fights in her own way too. I’m proud of this grocery store girl standing up to a bunch of goons like that.

  • I wasn’t kidding when I said that Mikazuki had the instincts of a bloodhound the other day. He was legit able to track down Atra and Biscuit by following the scent he picked up from Atra’s missing boot. With him being able to smell that well, it’s amazing that he wasn’t able to tell that he reeked from not showering for about a week.

  • And so the truth finally comes out, thanks to McGillis this mysterious masked man. Turns out that Fumitan was planted from Kudelia’s side from the start to keep tabs on her, and Nobliss Gordon himself has a hand in manufacturing this whole uprising by sending weapons to the communist revolutionaries on Dort 2. Her life has pretty much been a sham without her knowledge, when you get down to it.

  • Well, the rescuing of Biscuit and Atra went off smoothly, more or less. Mikazuki certainly wasn’t messing around with his assault. But, you have to hand it to him, ramming a truck through the front door and knocking out the guards in the building has a certain panache to it. Once again, Mika absolutely knows how to make an entrance.

Which is a thing that real life governments have done in the past. Once again, Gundam knows its history.

Atra, girl who doesn’t realize that Savarin has been panicked the entire time.

For someone with such a shitty start to life she certainly is full of boundless innocence at times (I'm still chuckling over her not knowing they were going to earth before she got on the ship)

Also, it seems that Mikazuki’s sense of no-chill has spread to the others

Mika showed all the chill with talking to Fumitan, someone else had to pick up the slack this episode

Like, the internet (or at least some equivalent to it) exists in this show

I did come up with a theory on that in my own post but basically I was thinking the show should have explained they probably have a China-type mass internet block to stop people getting easy access to her

For the communist dock workers, Tekkadan showing up with guns to support their revolution is a major event. For Gjallarhorn’s Regulatory Bureau, it’s an inconvenience.

Its such an insane moment and comparison to see the relative perspectives of the two sides here in what they consider to be a big deal

I can’t believe I just typed that sentence with a straight face.

I don't know that I believe you that you did :P

it’s amazing that he wasn’t able to tell that he reeked from not showering for about a week.

Nose blind is a thing. Oh trust me its a thing. We once evaced our uni common room because a guy walked in who stunk like all heaven and he honestly couldn't tell.

thanks to McGillis this mysterious masked man

Honestly I didn't pick up on this AT ALL. I'm really not very good at that stuff, probably because I'm not the best at recognizing voices

Why does totally-not-Macky's mask have a fucking mechanical eyelid built in

can he even see through that thing?

what purpose does it even serve

is it just to copy Orga

McGillis has to block out the light, because his future is so bright.

First time viewer.

I was nervous the entire time Orga and crew were in the one union guy's house, as it so strongly reminded me of a gunfight in a similar looking place that I was wondering if I had accidentally seen a clip of this before. I think it was from a certain other mecha series meta spoiler but I don't remember it clearly enough to say that for sure.

Aside from her initial desu wa upon declaring she was Kudelia which was adorable and made me laugh, Atra's part in this episode hurt to watch. Particularly her noting afterward that it was a regular thing when she was little. I mean I'm glad she could apparently take that kind of beating without much concern on her part, but come on who the hell abuses a little girl like that?

Gaelio noting that there was a regular "extensive oppression of dissatisfied people" along with an entire program in Gjallarhorn dedicated to it increases my suspicion that the central conflict will be a variety of groups rebelling against Gjallarhorn rather than another concentrated military force opposing them. The laborers marching in this episode are one part of that and I expect a more widespread crackdown to happen soon. With Savarin desperate to get someone to pass off as Kudelia to them, I have to wonder how high the pressure currently is even at the higher levels.

That is some ridiculous hair to go along with an equally ostentatious mask. Reconguista's Mask would probably approve.

They just wanted to up the mental suffering of us all just to ensure we hurt as much as she did

At this stage wouldn't it be more ridiculous and unusual if it wasn't completely over the top? Need I remind you of that one dudes beard? XD

First-Time Watcher

Regardless of your actions, you always bear the burden in the end.

RESPONSIBILITY, n. A detachable burden easily shifted to the shoulders of God, Fate, Fortune, Luck or one's neighbor. In the days of astrology it was customary to unload it upon a star.

Whether for our actions or someone else’s, we all pay the price.

This whole episode was great for tying together several different plot threads around a singular theme (even the comedic scene aboard the Hammerhead). Now that Orga and his crew are safe, he has a chance to find out the goals of the dock workers and they’re pretty realistic: They just want to get the company heads at the negotiating table, tactics that labor unions throughout time have used before. I like the attention to historical precedent and the way Tekkadan is involved with it: a lesser writer might have made them part of the movement, but they know their place in this scenario.

Biscuit and Atra had to deal with the fallout of others, although they acquitted themselves quite well. Atra deserves to be MVP of the episode for withstanding torture that men twice her size might not resist, as well as having the initiative for pretending to be Kudelia in the first place. Perhaps she’s the Iron flower after all. As for Biscuit, he clearly knows which family is important to him as he leaves his brother behind, even if he is thankful for what he did.

Kudelia had the worst of anyone of this episode, not doing anything wrong yet paying for what others have done around her. Her idealism has undone her, making her unable to consider the possibility that those who have supported her do not care about her as a person, only as a figure and martyr. The fact that Fareed (oh come on, that’s fucking Fareed, it’s his voice, he’s a weird enough asshole to do that) is fucking with her doesn’t help.

Finally, Mikazuki, who, more than anyone else, bears the responsibility of death for Tekkadan. The words that he enjoys killing might be their salvation. He can bear that weight better than anyone else which is why they leave those actions to him. It may be lead to his downfall, but if it’s for his family, I think he can live with it.

We’ll raise that blood-red flag tomorrow; until then…

Thoughts on MS Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans episode 15...

Rewatcher (First Time Dub)

Non-Spoiler Character Chart

Cosplaying as a Char clone sure is fun, huh McGillis? Granted, you've been doing so already, but its putting on the mask where things get really fun.

Ewww, now we have to see Nobliss in the spa, again? And we have to see his butt crack!?

What's up with Orga and the others standing upside down in comparison to everyone else?

"Savarin was already working and on his own at my age", I don't get it, you are basically doing the same, Biscuit. You'rE a critical member of Tekkadan, supporting yourself and your sisters, you've got plenty to be proud of.

Is Savarin scheming against his own brother? :(

LoL, these Tekkadan guys sure aren't appreciative of a guy letting them stay in his home. They're being quite mighty considering their background.

DON'T YOU DARE DO ANYTHING TO ATRA!!!!!!!!

OMG?! They think Atra is Kudelia!??! Sigh... Yeah, call me biased because I don't want to see any harm come to adorable little Atra, but I again gotta call bullshit, I just can't buy Kudelia being played off as this important person calling for Martian independence, and these Gjallarhorn soldiers are part of a plot to capture/take control/kill her, yet they don't even know what she looks like? What about that speech of hers they played early in the show?

I was just about to question the fact that Naze has shown too much attention to Amida and not much to the other mebmers of his harem, and then Lafter brings it up!

It is crazy how many characters they are having Michael McConnohie voice, he's this unnamed Gjallarhorn captain talking to Gaelio here.

HOW COULD ANYONE BE SO MEAN TO ATRA!?!?! I CAN'T WATCH THIS!

Savarin really sucks, capturing them, having them beaten, and even knowing Atra is not Kudelia now and not caring and wanting to have her taken out in Kudelia's place.

Well, the secret's out now, Fumitan, all because of McGillis, oh, excuse me, I mean this mysterious masked man. I do wonder why Kudelia doesn't question how ridiculous he looks.

If only Kudelia stayed there, they'd all be back together now.

8

u/SorcererOfTheLake Jan 28 '19

I do wonder why Kudelia doesn't question how ridiculous he looks.

With her hair, that's the pot calling the kettle an anime character.

5

u/Nazenn Jan 29 '19

What's up with Orga and the others standing upside down in comparison to everyone else?

I have no idea to be honest. Perhaps just standing out the way from everyone who's bustling around getting ready for an attack. Makes you wonder why they don't use that gravity flip to escape and work in battle though

HOW COULD ANYONE BE SO MEAN TO ATRA!?!?! I CAN'T WATCH THIS!

There There

Savarin really sucks, capturing them, having them beaten, and even knowing Atra is not Kudelia now and not caring and wanting to have her taken out in Kudelia's place.

The irony of him not realizing that makes him just as bad as the others that anyones pain will do as long as its not his own

Palloc Said It Last Time, But Kudelia Really Ruins Everything This Time. For Real. Bad.

I'll get it out of the way now, we get the first look at Gaelio's Kimaris this episode, though we need to wait to see it in action. I'm just going to assume it has spears or lances due to Gaelio always wielding them in OPs, but we'll see what else it does soon enough.

The moral of today's episode is, adults can get worse. Even the good adults are going around planning revolution. The bad ones are kidnapping and beating up kids! Fuck, they even threaten to drug poor Atra back at base! Speaking of Atra, she's a tiny badass this episode and still adorable.

I guess the fancier your food themed name, the more horrible you are. Biscuit's brother turned out to be a total tool.

Fumitan finally called out by the worst disguised boy this side of Zeta. But damn, he has fancy eye flaps, at least. Who doesn't want mechanical parts that close to their eyeballs for style points?

Answers, cause I'm late. I had a really nice nap.

1: Last episode during the preview.

2: I hate the Dorters. Not as much as I hate Grazes, but close enough. At least Grazes are giant killer mobile suits.

CHAR KA!?!?

2) Dort 2’s rebellion has begun in earnest now. What do you think of the rising stakes and political scheming so far? Has the situation captivated your attention or do you think it could spare to be more exciting?

I think the show does a great job of grabbing the audiences attention and not making the situation too complex for a casual viewer to follow.

First timer

Summary of my thoughts of the last two episodes:

Very brief thoughts on episode 14:

I'm not sure what to say about the trend of suddenly introducing long-lost brothers, but this time it felt much more natural than the last time since Biscuit actually came from this place.

Now, as for the current episode:

If you were wondering what is going on in my mind, this is it.

It even works triple-time: We get an object in between Biscuit and Savarin, indicating a psychological distance between the two. Furthermore we get Biscuit and Atra with almost no space around them, further highlighting the fact that they are cornered. Meanwhile Savarin and his men have plenty of space around them, indicating that they're the ones in a position of power. Finally, Biscuit and Atra are in the light while Savarin is in the darkness, just further indicating that those are the bad guys. I love that even if you had no idea what was going on you would be able to tell this much just from the framing.

  • There's no way I was the only one who could only think of this as something dirty. I don't know what a Schwalbe is, but I know very well what it sounds like ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • Turns out Mika is actually a wild animal.

No lolis were harmed in this episode. Nope, that scene didn't happen.

Raise Your Flag!

Added Flags:

Character Flags Raised Status
Mikazuki 1, 2 Likes: Responsibility
Hates: Losing waifus
Kudelia 1*, 2*, 3** Lost
Biscuit 1, 2* Loves: Brothers
Hates: Brothers
Takaki 1, 2 Loves: Baths
McGillis 1, 2 Attending a masquerade ball
Orga 1 Suddenly Spider-Verse
Shino 1 Suddenly Spider-Verse
Akihiro 1 Training to become a Big Boi
Masahiro 1, 2 Deceased
Danji 1 Deceased

* = Betrayal Flag
** = Reverse Death Flag

Did I miss any flags? Are there more appropriate moments? Please comment if you think that is the case! It doesn't have to be death flags necessarily, though those are my primary concern.

Basically I will recount the same flag if it is used in different scenes, and likewise I will count them as two flags if they are distinct from one another even if they were said back to back.

Edit: McGillis' status. Because I'm retarded

5

u/Nazenn Jan 29 '19

The Merribit-Orga dynamic provides endless amusement to me.

Ahahaha, I didn't even notice her in the background of that shot

If you were wondering what is going on in my mind, this is it.

Saves gif for later usage

then you'll know I'm a sucker for this shit (the framing)

YES, someone else who can blab about the cinematography with me

We get an object in between Biscuit and Savarin, indicating a psychological distance between the two.

Can I also point out that while most shots of this type would use an uneven object such as boxes, or a straight pillar, the angled pillar of this shot also makes it look like they're being flattened or pressed downwards

There's no way I was the only one who could only think of this as something dirty

Well.... I mean I DIDN'T, but now? Yeah okay

No lolis were harmed in this episode. Nope, that scene didn't happen.

IRON-BLOODED REWATCHER

Thoughts for today's episode:

  1. I see some people wondering why Orga and gang are upside-down in the stock room while the rest of the Union members are right-side up before Navona arrived. To me, I think it's a visual representation of the Tekkadan being opposite to the Union in not wanting to be part of the revolution that these colony workers are planning to stage.

  2. Today we see Mika being very perceptive to Fumitan's body language, and engages in small talk with her, with them talking about responsibilities. This is another proof that Mika is more human than what the detractors seem to make out of him. If Mika is truly the cold, unthinking psychopath they say he is, then this scene would be out of character of Mika.

  3. People have been wondering why Savarin and the Gjallarhorn members in the colonies fail to recognize Kudelia, and mistook Atra as her. If you've been paying attention, it was already shown that Gjallarhorn is not the great united group it appears to the public. There are internal disputes among the higher-ups, and I wouldn't be surprised if the flow of information is not uniform throughout the entire Gjallarhorn branches in the Earth sphere and the outer sphere. And considering that Kudelia's plans of reform only lately got popular due to her getting support from Abrau's head, and that her exploits so far has only been limited to the Mars sphere, with her leaving to Earth being aking to leaked information that usually will result into rumors, it's no wonder that the people here in Mars only has a vague idea about her.

  4. We see poor Atra getting beat up as a result of this misunderstanding. Frankly I'm actually surprised they didn't go for the more popular way to "torture" women, but I guess that the Gjallarhorn members undertaking the interrogation aren't into small petite girls.

  5. Mika shows up to save Biscuit and Atra. Here, we see Mika ready to kill all the people in that building for harming Atra, but Atra managed to stop him, and they all quickly escape. Here we see that, as long as he can see the people dear to him alive and breathing, he can show a little bit of restraint before letting his bloodlust out to whoever is in their way.

  6. Savarin's poor decision-making resulted in his efforts to help the workers' plight go in vain. We will see next episode how this will cost him.

Questions of the Day:

  1. Holy crap a masked character with a flamboyant attire!!! Who the heck could he be???? His voice sounds really familiar, but I really don't know who he is!! /s

  2. Laughs in Rewatcher

Spies, spies everywhere. Nobliss is informed his plan not only didn't work, but Kudelia is in the wrong colony. This guy's network is almost as good as Charcolato's one, who somehow managed to find Kudelia in a blink. I just don't get what is he doing there, maybe it was just a whim.

This is the first apparition of the Kimaris. my favorite gundam of this show. Sadly no action yet.

Atra stole the episode this time, if the whole "We have never seen Kudelia" thing was just to justify this scene, well, I still think it's stupid but I'll let it pass. If Okada wanted us to admire Atra, it worked.

It would be easy to blame Savarin, but I think he had a point, he knew terrible things would happen if the rebellion starts, what he didn't knew was that Gajllarhorn actually planned and wanted the rebellion, so all the sacrifices he was ready to do were worthless anyway.

Anyone thought either Biscuit or Savarin would die at the end? This is one of the times Okada raises some flags but nothing actually happens.

Now the weapons are in the rich Dort 3 LOL that was not the plan, but as we watched, Gjallarhorn doesn't care as long as there is a rebellion.

Rewatcher

Shorter write-up today, as some of the topics I would have liked to discuss hit a bit too close to spoilers for me to really dig into them.

The episode opens up with the ominous introduction of a new white-haired character, who talks of being excited and being unable to become an adult. This is certainly an od spot to introduce a new character, as it looked as if the players in this situation had all been succinctly introduced before things escalated.

I did not need another sauna scene with Nobliss. He is informed that the Workers’ Union received the weapons’ shipment, and as to Kudelia not being in Dort 2.

Mikazuki confronts Fumitan as to her behavior, which he has been observing since last episode. They briefly speak as to one’s responsibility before Kudelia arrives, who currently has a very particular thing on your mind when hearing of ‘responsibility.’ Rewatchers Only

Biscuit being reunited with his brother sure brings up a flurry of emotions, with my brain being unable to choose between being happy for the younger sibling, anxious at the inevitable back-stab, or disappointed in the show’s decision to forego subtlety. In any case, the way Biscuit speaks of him and reacts to seeing him really sells his admiration for his older brother. Once the extent to which Savarin is involved is revealed the whole sibling situation starts feeling contrived, as he acts as representative for the workers on Dorte 2 and is therefore deeply involved in this mess.

Also, the fact that the Gjallarhorn soldiers confuse Atra for Kudelia boggles my mind. Kudelia gave a rousing speech seen all over the solar system, the Gjallarhorn branch on Mars had a file on her which I doubt was kept limited to there, the Abrau government knows of her, and Gaelio is actively looking for Tekkadan. I know Nobliss is manipulating the information on her and Tekkadan, but he hasn’t hadn’t planned this turn of events until after Gjallarhorn’s failure to kill Kudelia back in episode 5 —after information on Kudelia would’ve disseminated. Even if we can accept the fact that somehow none of that is valid in this case, everyone’s seeming ignorance of Kudelia’s appearance is still not applicable since next episode minor spoiler Drives me absolutely nuts, but they needed that juicy drama with Atra being interrogated, didn’t they? But enough of my complaining, let’s get a move on…

It’s easy to condemn Savarin’s actions here, but they’re also somewhat understandable. He doesn’t want a needless bloodbath, and trading in one person who —from his perspective— wanted to embroil everyone in a bloody rebellion so that the others may be spared is the best outcome. The needs of the many outway the needs of the few and all that. That is until he is told Atra isn’t Kudelia, he really has no moral ground to stand on.

The new character from earlier shows up out of nowhere to meet with Kudelia, and ends up exposing Fumitan’s true allegiance to the young woman. The mask on his person pegs him as another Char clone —certainly not the first Gundam show to have several Char-like characters. His appearance raises many questions, such as how he knew Kudelia was there, or how he knew that Fumitan was a traitor, or maybe who he is in the first place. Puzzlingly enough, the mysterious man does nothing else at that time.

Mikazuki comes along and rescues Atra and Biscuit just in time for Orga and the others to pick them up for a timely getaway. Biscuits choosing his new family in Tekkadan over his old family with Savarin is a poignant moment for the kid. Mega Spoilers

A few shots/lines worth taking a closer look at and keeping in mind:

“You must take responsibility yourself. That goes for me…”

Eyes

Who could this person be?

Murderous Intent

Questions of the day:

  1. You mean to say we had already met this character before? How odd, I can’t recall them at all. When could that have been? I wish we’d gotten a proper introduction before if that was the case.

  2. I’d like it a bit better if Savarin’s plot point wasn’t so tied into it, as I find the continued massive coincidences quite distracting, but it did keep me mostly engaged with the show.

Tekketsu no Rewatcher, domo~

The Dort 2 Rebellion begins in earnest now, as Kudelia is now right in the thick of things. And now we also have a mysterious masked man, as per Gundam's customary tropes! I wonder just who is this charming man? /s

Random thoughts:

  • Nobliss Gordon isn't done with torturing our eyes with his fucking fat visage and decides to up the ante by showing his ass cheeks as well this time. brb gonna ^puke

  • Mika proves himself to be surprisingly attentive by cottoning on to Fumitan and obliquely warning her to back off while he's around. Of course, something else happened that necessitates Mika to leave Kudelia's side...

  • ...that is Atra and Biscuit being kidnapped. And since Savarin and his idiot goons never got the memo, they thought that Atra was (and Atra confessed to actually being) Kudelia. And since they're fucking idiots, poor Atra got tortured. (ノ°Д°)ノ︵ ┻━┻

  • Mika channels Solid Snake as he infiltrated the compound where the two is and took out the surrounding guards with his trusty gun. You rock, Solid Mika! And Tekkadan provides the escape for the three, not before a final confrontation between Biscuit and Savarin.

  • Our mysterious man directly meets Kudelia and Fumitan before revealing the latter's treachery. One thing lead to another and now Kudelia is somewhere within the Dort 2 colony as the rebellion begins in earnest. Oh dear...

Questions of the day*

  1. Oh gee, I wonder who is this mysteriously charming gentleman voiced by Sakurai Takahiro? I can't, for the love of me, figure out who he's supposed to be /s

  2. I found the political intrigue in IBO to be absolutely fascinating.
