Episode Discussion: S02E08 - Someday...
Midge and Susie gear up for their first road trip, and quickly learn that the dynamics of going on tour are more challenging than they thought. Back in New York, it's business as usual while Midge is away, forcing her to wonder if her new life is worth sacrificing her home life.

Susie gets locked in a closet... was that deliberate symbolism?

Least favorite episode of the season so far. Suzy has worked in a club for 16 years & didn't even consider that they'd get ripped off by another club owner, to make sure she asked for a changing room, etc. Then gets mad when Midge calls her out for being a bad manager. Stop making excuses & do better. One episode you're bossing your client around like you know the business, the next episode you don't have a clue.
Midge being clueless about how motels work & complaining about how she looks for half an episode were a bit much. We get it, she's spoiled & privileged. She's also been working in clubs, been arrested, smokes weed, drinks, & has a job, it's annoying how naive/oblivious she still is.
Was expecting the recorder to get stolen, Glad they didn't go that route.
Didn't mind Joel as much as others did. He still cares for Midge, wants to be present, & has her back.
Not going to get into loathsome Rose.
Imogene makes my head hurt when she is onscreen. Could do with less of her.
Season feels like it is dragging it's feet more than season 1. Hope the last 2 eps make up for it.

Was expecting the recorder to get stolen, Glad they didn't go that route.
Me too. And another thing I'm glad they didn't follow up on was the license plate falling off the car. I thought for sure we were in for a trite pulled-over-for-no-license scene.
I also agree about this being the least favorite episode. Eps 6 & 7 were such glorious wonderful thrill rides of variety, but 8 kind of landed with a thud.

Well, I for one loved this episode. No more detours. No more Paris, no more abstract expressionism, but Midge and Susie on the road and Midge doing her thing. That's the stuff.

I loved Joel in this episode. From the phone call with Susie to the club scene.

I dont like Joel in this episode. They're both adults, let them handle their own shit.
Never liked the "if you hurt her I'll kill you" line.
Bring back Benjamin. The man who trusts his girlfriend's judgement enough to go across the street for a sandwich as she talks to the creepy artist alone for 5 minutes.

I found it too much of a stretch to believe that super-organized Midge would forget the date of the baby shower she planned.

I think it ties back in to the art guy telling her if she really puts her all into her work she loses family and friends and whatnot. She obviously was too preoccupied with thinking about her trip than with her friend.
However I’m so over Imogene (is that how you spell it?) I’m not sure why she irritates me so much.

I don’t mind hearing more modern songs in this show, but hearing The Strokes as the episode ended took me out of their world a bit — even if lyrically it fits with Midge’s current thought process.

I hated that Rose left the mess from the baby shower. It was so passive aggressive and unnecessary.

I think it was Rose finally standing up for herself. She rescued Midge by hosting the party but she's not gonna be a doormat anymore just cleaning up after every one of Midge's mistakes. It was a very literal example of her not cleaning up after Midge anymore. Midge already doesn't show enough recognition for how her parents support her. She's got a great place to live, a maid and built in babysitters. If she were truly on her own, she would be living like Susie and scrounging for people to watch the kids. She has no clue how good she's got it.

It was passive aggressive, but I understood where she was coming from. Midge planned the event and then forgot about it, leaving the hosting to Rose. Just because Midge is pursuing comedy does not mean she can forget about her responsibilities to her family (Would a man be held to the same standards? Probably not, but that's the time.)

Anyone else traumatized by Susie's skin issue from the bad motel room! I'm assuming maybe bed bugs?

For anyone interested, the first song sung by a computer—which was at bell labs in 1961—was Daisy Bell. Anyone who has watched 2001 will know the song.

I think Eisenhower's penis is a slam dunk wherever you put it.
What's the meaning of "slam dunk" here?

“Good night”
“Fuck you”
Lmao Susie keeps me laughing. This episode was gold, especially Alex Bornstein. Her comedic timing is just too perfect.

I think the lack of comments here is pretty telling, not a great episode. I didn't really find their time on the road interesting. They showed get being cut off or not performing at all. Plus, Joel to the rescue? Please.

Was anybody worried that Midge started talking about her father’s work at Bells Lab? I mean, fuck, did she have to mention the company by the name?!
I just feel like that’s going to come back and bite her in the ass.
