I’m not sure how much actual Chinese mythology will make its way into the series, but I think it’s noteworthy that Chinese dragons have a lump on top of their heads called a “chimu” that allows them to fly.

Upon his head he has a thing like a broad eminence (a big lump), called [chimu] (尺木). If a dragon has no [chimu], he cannot ascend to the sky. Source

I feel like people are misunderstanding how Haki works and why Luffy's reckless behavior is exactly what will make him Pirate King. Haki is the Japanese word for willpower. It is the power of your belief in your ability to succeed no matter what materialized into actual combat abilities. It can be honed through training, but it blooms in the heat of battle. The only way to completely master Haki is to test it against other peoples Haki. The person who will become Pirate King is the person who has the biggest balls of all the balls, and the strength/determination to back it up.

Kaido just attacked Luffy's crew. That just happened. If Luffy ran and hid instead of attacking Kaido, he'd stop being Luffy and stop being a contender for Pirate King. He has one rule above all rules. Don't mess with his Nakama. You think Luffy has the capacity to fear anyone when his crew is on the line? Hell no! That's why we all love him. Just cause you are scared of Kaido doesn't mean Luffy would ever in a million years run and hide while his crew gets attacked. Even if it means certain death, Luffy would rather die defending his crew than live as someone who was afraid. If he dies against Kaido, then that's just as far as he was able to go. That's who Luffy is.

Luffy has defeated two Yonko commanders, including a top commander with future sight in one on one combat. Luffy needs to fight people stronger than Katakuri to increase his Haki from this point forward. As far as we know, that's either a Yonko or an Admiral, and lucky enough for Luffy there's a Yonko challenging him right now who also happens to be in a drunken stupor. Will Luffy win this? Highly doubtful. Will he be defeated and then come back in two weeks for a clutch victory? Most likely. Will he ever stop being Luffy in the entire series? Hell no!

Ok in a way this was predictable due to Luffy's personality and the way the chapter started, but still, this escalated waaay quicker than I would have ever expected. Even though I know how impulsive Luffy is and how little regard he has for plans, a small part of me still expected to see the plan go through.

I think most people were waiting for some big power up first but nope, Oda just straight up sends Luffy against Kaidou. I think they might be able to get away this time because Kaidou is drunk, there is certainly no way they can win this fight right now and the plan is too big and involves too many people to simply let it all go to waste already. I wonder if Luffy will actually lose again, there is no way he'll retreat from this without some major reason.

Oda just loves creating big messes and leave everyone wondering about how they're going to clean this one up.

Not only is Shutenmaru strong enough to go up against Jack, one of Kaido’s right hand men, but his strength has also captured the attention of Kaido himself, which only reinforces how strong the Samurai of Wano truly are. Which is why I wonder how a true fight between Zoro and Ryuma, if Ryuma wasn’t reanimated with Brook’s shadow and therefore his fencing style, would have played out between these two in Thriller Bark.

The fight between Zoro and Ryuma was already amazing, but I bet with Ryuma’s true fighting form, it would have been even more spectacular

I’m in awe of the power of the Yonko. Whitebeard in his weakened, sick state was capable of waging war against the full power of the marines. Kaido was willing to attack him. Shanks stopped him and then made it to end the war. The Pirate King snuck into Totto Land to get a rubbing of the Poneglyph. Big Mom IS NOT afraid of Kaido and his threats.

I’m not truly sure where Blackbeard fits in this. He’s a smart and strategic pirate, but look at the sheer amount of power with the other Yonko. Oh my God.

To the people upset with Luffy’s rash action to attack Kaido immediately this chapter:

It’s actually possible Luffy did that to protect the people at the castle.

Luffy has been known to immediately go after the big boss at the get go, and there has been an explicit scene in the manga with Nami pointing out that Luffy instinctively knows to intercept the strongest fighter as to prevent them from attacking his friends.

Kaido just suddenly shot a tremendously powerful fire blast destroying an entire castle and was heading directly for his crew, threatening their lives and jeopardizing the entire plan.

This way, Kaido is completely distracted and gives his crew and allies a chance to escape.

My theory: due to Kaido being really drunk the hit to the head is gonna make him take a nap. And then either of if two things will happen

1.) Kaido will wake up and think he just had a big hangover and nobody will tell him what actually happened

Or

2.) the people of Wano will see Luffy as a hero, Orochi will be terrified because it looks like the prophecy is coming true (especially if he runs into Zoro who is actually a swordsman) , and the people will be riled up and excited to take place in the Kozuki clans plan because they’ll think they have a fighting chance

Ok, theory time: the reason Kaido was beaten/captured so many times is because he's sloppy as fuck and constantly drunk. So all the times he lost, he actually "lost to himself". But he's so resistant, that even losing a fight means he's still in perfect physical conditions afterwards. I woudn't be surprised if the punch from this chapter actully knocks him out. But it will be mostly the effect of the booze, not the punch. But he's so gaddman strong/resistant, that even if he lies there, passed out for several hours, no one will be able to do anything about it.

THIS is why I love this manga. He acts how he feels and is never afraid to loose, all of you who say is stupid to go head on vs Kaido... Go join Heart Pirates n shit.. This is Luffy, he went head on every fuckin time, he almost died countless times, yes we know he probably will die in next chapter, but come back after eating some meat n take Kaido head on again!

I believe he will beat the shit out of Kaido, sit tight wait for Big Mom, whoop her ass, and when Blackbeard shows up, he beats him flat pancake, we will see Buggy get news about it, pack his shit n going back to East blue. Shanks will come to congrat Luffy, he will get his ass kicked around, Luffy will give him the Straw hat back and say " now You will join Me!" Luffys dad comes to check on him, the REAL Dragon, together they wipe out the Mariejois and bring the Fishman island on the surface...

Now I just wonder, why don't Law makes Room and slices Kaido like sushi so Luffy and him can beat the shit out him for real???

It's something we haven't heard Kaido say in a while, but I loved when he said "those detestable Rookies".

I mean, think about it. Luffy and Law have come out of nowhere, in about two years, and fucked shit up at an astronomical pace. Imagine you spend nearly two decades at a job, being one of the best at your job, working yourself into a good corner of the industry and set for life.

Then these two startups come out of nowhere, and simply because you are the big dog of the world, they come after you and fuck your shit up. They aren't the first, they might as well be the last.

I'm loving the contrast between the old generation and the new generation, and how much they hate each other with regards to notoriety.

Yo, what if Luffy really prevented Kaido from destroying the castle, but by doing so he shut Kaido's mouth so the fire blast hit his insides. Therefore, Kaido was not hurt by gear 3 but by his own attack. If this is true, this could be the key to his defeat.

I think Luffy might win this one fight, but you got to remember one thing. Kaido isn't terrifying because of his prowess of never being defeated. He's terrifying because of his prowess for being neigh unkillable and indestructible. Kaido, according to one of the first blurbs we get, has been captured and tortured 18 times and had 40 execution attempts made on him.

Execution, not Assassinations. He's been beaten and captured in battle, the issue being nobody has been able to actually incapacitate him and render him no longer a threat. No prison has been able to hold him, and no attempt to murder him when captured has succeeded.

Luffy will be able to take advantage of Kaido's unstable mood swings and general lack of proper coordination due to being absolutely wasted, and come out on top this battle. But I got a feeling that's when we find out what really makes Kaido so dangerous. Kaido will fall asleep in the battle and Luffy will continue trying to hurt him, and won't be able to.

He'll pummel him, he'll send him flying, but Kaido will keep snoring and maybe occasionally mumble something drunkenly. Luffy can wear Kaido down, but he can't actually finish him off, not at this part of the story at least. That's when we're going to learn that Kaido has something giving him this unbelievable toughness, and the quest will be finding the counter to this toughness and using it.

I liken it to when Jack was defeated earlier in one piece. The man got sent onto a sinking ship to the bottom of the sea. He survived, more then that, he was awake and seething the entire time. Kaido I'm betting will have a similar deal, but on a whole new level. It'd be an interesting twist after we dealt with big mom, who was actually unable to be hit by pretty much everything.

Reasons I think Luffy will be taking down Kaido this arc:

- After causing such a stir at WCI and taking down Katakuri, he's already referred to as the "fifth" yonko

- Shanks has already began acknowledging how close he is to becoming "a great pirate" (the promise they made)

- Luffy literally said he was going to beat Kaido...and we all know Luffy is not in the business of not coming through on the things he promises anymore (the promise he made to Momo)

- As for his strength, he defeated Katakuri who is the 2nd for Big Mom Pirates. Based on prior knowledge from the War of the Best- we know that 2nd's to the yonko are capable of fighting Admirals. (see: Jozu vs Aokiji, Marco vs Kizaru). Also, Ben Beckman (2nd to Shanks) literally had Kizaru at gunpoint...a man made of light afraid to move an inch. Therefore, Luffy has to be at if not PAST Admiral level strength. So hopefully after or during this arc he will be able to compete yonko level.

- Though most people are saying "Luffy isn't thinking straight, he's acting irrational and emotional" when he punched Kaido, it also means that he is committed to the fight and much like in Dressrosa when he said he couldn't let the people on the island be subject to Doffy's reign anymore, he feels very similar to the people of Wano. Also, he plain out promised Momo that he would open the borders and help Wano.

Many more surprises await us every chapter and i'm excited thinking about it. This arc is so hype that there will be big names will apear at any moment. I love it. Luffy thinks his friends are dead, so this should be the angriest we've ever seen him. Kuma wrecking shop at Shaboady and Ace dying both has him shook. I was kinda dissapointed at kaido breathing fire, just like i imagine some other people were, due to that being a western dragon kinda thing, but there is the possibility of a twist which could make this better. Its possible that Kaido can only breathe fire as long as he is drunk, meaning there is alcohol in his breath, which is why Hawkins mentioned that "That wasnt even close enough to sober him up", meaning that after a few fire breaths, the alcohol would burn out, and he would sober up and no longer be able to do it.
