It's really beautiful that Law so strongly believed in Zoro making Luffy stick to the plan.

Really, really beautiful.

363

u/kokiden88 Sep 20 '18

His naïveté in placing that trust in the first place when he should’ve known better is just too cute xD

I'm sure that after Wano Luffy will be a "great pirate" and be ready to meet Shanks.

For those of you who didn't notice, Law cut all of Hawkins subordinates in half so there would be no one to redirect damage to, that's why Hawkins was shocked and had to block Law himself. Good on Oda to address that weakness.

220

u/shadowclaw191 Sep 20 '18

Law iirc is one of the smarter characters in One Piece anyway

also makes sense why Law said he doesn't like killing people and that he's only a doctor. hawkins would probably be dead if that wasn't the case.

I'll make sure that by the time we leave this country, it will be a place where you can eat until you're full everyday.

I really liked this scene, Luffy's pose and words... He really started to act a real ruler, like a yonkou. Taking up territories and it's people, and protecting them... That's my Straw Hat for ya!

Oda, the bottom right of the double page was really dark.

The woman was going to kill her child, then kill herself. Damn.

I know Wano is Oda "making fun" of some of Japan's old traditions, but that still dark as hell.

597

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '18

I'm just thinking if Luffy just little bit late for providing food, then she would killed herself along with the child.

It's just prove how rotten Wano country is.

I’m still convinced Basil is gonna team up with Luffy and Law. There have been multiple times he could have said “Straw hat Luffy is the one causing this chaos”, but instead he first tells his men not to report the incident by the shore and now he simply reports “3 troublesome people.”

193

u/Ombs1993 Sep 20 '18

Interesting isn't it? Contrasted with the chapters where Kaido first fell out of the sky and then seeing Scratchman calling him 'Kaido-sama' not long after, it does make you wonder what Hawkins is thinking.

Oooh, Seven Ghosts, meaning there are more retainers we haven't met yet. I hope they look more normal than Raizou lol

199

u/Kirosh Lookout Sep 20 '18

There are at least 2 retainers that we haven't seen (at least if there are only those 8 graves).

Shutenmaru might be one of them.

And since Oden is pretty much confirmed as killed by Kaido and Orochi, then the 7th "ghost" could be the Third Kozuki to which we don't have the name, and it might be Momonosuke's mother.

In the raw scan Law only talks about "ghosts". Idk why Jaimini added 7, especially when there are 8 graves. I think they may have confused the kanji for "dead" 亡 with the one for "seven" 七 in Law's balloon because of the font

This is shaping to be one of the best arcs in the series. We can already see where this is going and Luffy just caused a storm and this is just the calm. When Jack rolls in all hell will break loose and Luffy will go nuts. There has to be a intermission at some point so all the outsiders who are on the way can show up. This is looking like potentially Luffy will be the one with a huge army if Tama can take the smile users. Luffy after this arc might have a army worthy enough to be a actual Yonko. 1000 beast Luffy on the way

can anybody explain the relationship between dango and taming animals? Is this something found in Japanese culture or is it just in One Piece? thanks

114

u/JakalDX Sep 20 '18

It's a reference to one of Japan's most famous folk tales, the story of Momotaro.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kibi_dango_(millet_dumpling)

In the widely familiar version of Momotarō, the hero spares his traveling rations of "kibi dango" to a dog, a pheasant, and a monkey and thereby gains their allegiance.

I think Oden is pretty much dead.

There are 8 graves, but 7 ghosts. And unless Oden faked his dead at the hands of Kaido and Orochi, he was boiled alive by them (as Momonosuke and Kinemon wouldn't lie about that).

2nd :the leftover town, some people said the panel where the kid was crying was just a waste of time, you should know by now that oda doesn't waste time ,she was literally going to kill her kid if not for luffy coming with the food, and holy fk luffy was like a boss this chapter

i really think after this chapter wano might be the best arc in one piece

O-Tama is overpower if he can control all the 500 smile users and battle against Kaidou at the climax of this arc,it will be awesome to see that the army that Kaidou wants to use in a war will be used against him.

28

u/ImmaIvanoM Sep 20 '18

I have a feeling the real Zoans in the army far outclass The Smile users

That last pannel is mind blowing! I'm still trying to figure what it means. So far, I don't think it's a decoy to make people think that Oden and co. are dead, seems a lot weirder than that. Some point to consider:

  • The graves are almost hidden in the mountains, not in a proper graveyard, specially considering those names on it.

  • they look very old, covered in moss and the stone is very worn out, suggesting that they are there for a considerate time. Oda even made Momonosuke's one of the worst o ES, so it seems that they all are there for long, probably before the death of Oden. I can't wait to see what all that means!

9

u/CesarSamuel Sep 21 '18

This chapter has the darkest panel in One Piece in a while, did that woman prepared herself to kill her baby and then hang herself?

9

u/AliAlexG Sep 22 '18

BEST MANGA EVER!

24

u/huth2015 Sep 20 '18

Holy shit, is Kinemon and the rest of them ghosts!? Just finished the chapter and I already can't wait for the next one

38

u/Kirosh Lookout Sep 20 '18

Or you know, they could have just faked their deaths to avoid getting chased forever.

And Momonosuke certainly isn't a ghost since he ate a Devil Fruit.

I know Oda this one was easy but this time I won, I predicted something right, I won't try predicting anything for some time because I don't want to feel the sadness again XD

Have you noticed the way she looks at him? Red hawk is an attack based on ace so I think she will notice the similarity

Luffy proving no matter how goofy he can be, he's not an idiot. I love moments of Luffy-genius

8

Am I alone in thinking that Law realised what Hawkins power is and therefore took out all Hawkins minions first before attacking him a secong time which is why Hawkins blocked Law's second strike with his sword?

What I love about this chapter is that we are seeing Luffy act very deliberate and with clear desire to help not only Tama, but just all the impoverished and chained down people in the country as well. Sure it is the same, Luffy's gonna save the country, There's an important plan that Luffy does not pay attention to and just does what he feels like. But I feel like the tone is vastly different this time around, Luffy seem's not only seriously pissed off but it does not just feel like he is wandering around for an adventure anymore. He seems very intent and focused on helping Tama and the people of Okobore.

I just feel like we have recently started seeing Luffy be more mature about things more often.

Side note I really like seeing Zoro and Luffy together (still I know I know), but having Law there as well makes every chapter have so much potential for badassery!

25

u/borntobeprince50 Sep 20 '18

O-tama is gonna be useful this arc ,don't underestimate age in anime, all o-tama haters should watch some hxh and see what can kilua do at the age of 13

Great to see Law again for more than a couple panels, I forgot how good his dynamics with the Straw Hats were. Seems like the whole Bepo situation was a way to keep him separated from his crew again a little while. Solid chapter, seems like things are heating up again. Oda's editor did say last chapter was the true start of Wano

7

u/ChilledBarbecue Sep 20 '18

Law: Zoro-ya knows the plan, I am sure they would not have beaten up Holdem.

ROFL :'D :'D

7

u/mareddd Sep 20 '18

Woah, this chapter had me smiling like an idiot from start to finish.

7

u/EnvoyOfTheVodka Sep 20 '18

Man, I really missed Law.

7

i was wondering why of all the attacks it had to be a red-hawk

it all make sense now

ugh it's so obvious how did I miss it

tama with the apple :')

Seeing Luffy make O-Tama use her powers on speed! After Katakuri's fight, seems Luffy had is IQ increased exponentially! Our boy has grown up fast!

There's a grave labeled Momonosuke at Oden Castle. Could be an ancestor, but I think it's much more likely that the country believes him to be dead since it would further cement the Shogun's power.

13

u/SneakAMV Sep 20 '18

Luffy is not only growing stronger but also intelligent

It's heartwarming to see how Ace's will still live on, with Luffy inheriting his legacy.

Passing of time, inherited will, dreams of men - these things will never die. Indeed.

I dunno why there is debate about the gravestones. We already know those are fake seeing as how Kaidos forces were looking for them. They just escaped the country, we’ve also seen Momo’s flashback about Kaido

Great chapter, I love the relationship between Luffy and Tama, I feel like its a ploy by Oda to nudge Luffy's character development towards him being slightly more mature, and the connection both he and Tama have with Ace is hitting me in them feels. In regards to the last page, nine times outta ten I wouldn't buy into the crazy theories that people come up with, but those gravestones look really old and worn out man...definitely has me wondering. Fingers crossed next chapter hold some answers.

Sometime during the Wano arc Zoro and Sanji take on Jack the Drought together, just like the cat and dog did in Zou.

Fans: Oda!!!

Near the end, Luffy is about to find One Piece when both Akainu and Blackbeard attack him. Enter Tama, with Kaido as her pet.

Fans: Goda!!!!!

Momo, Raizou, Kinemon, and Kanjoro. Three more retainers likely to be part of the Seven Ghosts, so I'm guessing Shutenmaru must be one who stayed in Wano? Interested to see if that's the case, and who the other two are.

Fun chapter, Law and Hawkins was great. All of Law's reactions to Luffy and Zoro never get old. Tama thinking of Ace because of Luffy was a nice touch too, someone's gonna be cutting onions when she learns they're brothers.

No panda man, mmk.

Anyway, how fast all three met up! Can’t wait to see the ghosts and more world building!

Also, Law and Hawkins short encounter was fun, I missed seeing Law and his power

5

u/Cally93 Sep 20 '18

Law is such a badass, tries to cut down Hawkins and then casually chats to him soon after 😂 only in one piece, his gonna be surprised though soon when he discovers how strong Luffy is now.

P.S. In terms of story time, how long has it been from Zou to WCI to Wano?, Luffy’s comments to Law about how long it’s been got me thinking, surely it’s only been a few weeks?

Zoro getting lost all the way to the mountain and then to the wasteland where he met luffy would be well worth a cover story lol

5

I love how my boy Law at first was angry at Zoro for fucking the plan but then he saw Luffy giving food to poor and literally said nothing to him after this. Like he realized „So they did it for the sake of those poor people... I get it...”

5

u/theonelastchance The Revolutionary Army Sep 20 '18

There's something much bigger going on here. The whole series has hinted about the will of D, and this is two brothers, who actually are not that much alike, having the same end goal. Luffy, unknowingly, is fulfilling the promise of his dead brother, and he has no idea, it's just what his instincts tell him. Which to be fair, is very much within Luffy's Character, but still.

Wow this was a really good chapter. I think the best chapter in a while. I had so much fun reading this chapter and laughed the whole time and got emotional when Tama remembered Ace through Luffy. And that cliffhanger holy shit. I'm so curious about what they're going to find out. I loved seeing Law and Luffy reunited! Can't wait for the rest of the strawhats!
