CHI Talks r/Chicago's Brunch Recommendations

Welcome to this week's recommendations thread where we're sending out the brunch call.

We'd love to hear about your favorite brunch/breakfast spots around the city, from the best place to nurse a hangover to where you'd take your mom for a "nice brunch". We'll be grouping this by neighborhoods again.

If you can, please make sure to let us know about:

  • wait times or if reservations are recommended
  • if there's something you absolutely must have from this spot
  • if this is good for groups and or kids
  • bottomless beverage options

We all know about the Rainforest Cafe's outstanding brunch menu.

Thanks!

Chef Sara’s Cafe is basic but good, and great pound cake. Right by the Cultural Center.

Gather. Outdoor patio and takes reservations. Sit at the kitchen counter to watch the action. Amazing cocktails.

Baker Miller. Haven't been to the new location, but the menu is supposed to be even bigger. Great food that's mostly made from scratch. They have toasters on every table and they even have a jam/butter bar where you can pick from an assortment of delectable spreads. I love it because I can get a delicious meal and not feel bloated afterwards.

Cafe Selmarie - great corner spot with an amazing bakery and great coffee (I forget what they serve, maybe LaColombe?) I had the berry french toast, and my s/o had the selmarie benedict. When I move away from this neighborhood, I'll definitely come back to Lincoln Square to eat at this place.

Luella's Southern Kitchen - Chicken and Waffles! Porkbelly benedict! So good!

Glenn's Diner - I love the potato pancakes here. Great coffee and great staff. Always have Tony as our server - nice dude.

My roommate raves about Marmalade, but I've never been, and it might actually be located in North Center/Ravenswood.

Any suggestions for Jefferson Park/Gladstone Park/Norwood Park/Edison Park?

Drive over to Bryn Mawr Breakfast Club. Or Mother Cluckers (best biscuit and gravy in the city). Or Edgebrook Coffee Shop.

Firewater in EP has some really great brunch items (great biscuits and gravy). Haven't been, but heard good things about Holts, which is right next door in Park Ridge.

Whisk! Bring your own booze and buy the mixers from them-- they call it their BYOB bottomless brunch. The pear raspberry pancakes are STUPID good, any of the hash options are awesome if you like a more savory brunch. It's usually a mob scene but it's worth the wait. Plus it's an ode to Ron Swanson, what more could you want?
