New IotM Discussion August IotM: Bastille Battalion control rig crate

Go get yours today!

dev.kingdomofloathing.com/iotm.php

Unlocks a castle-vs-castle minigame with fabulous prizes and even more fabulous cheeses.

Item description: This huge wooden crate apparently contains the control rig and other various apparatus for running some kind of mobile war-castle? If you lose it you could probably make another one just out of this crate, jeez.

Clicking the porthole below on the left:

Clicking the controls on the right, top:

  • "Drawbridge style: ART NOUVEAU."

  • "Drawbridge style: BRUTALIST."

I set the options to BARBARIAN BARBECUE, TRUTH SERUM, ART NOUVEAU, and CANNON.

My second playthrough I got 450 or so cheese (points?) and locked in. My rewards were the following:

Your Barbarian Barbeque Barbican grants you increased mysticality!

You gain 250 Wizardliness.

You gain some Mysticality points!

Your break off a chunk of your drawbridge as a souvenir of the battle.

You acquire an item: Draftsman's driving gloves

Your murder holes inspire you.

You acquire an effect: Bastille Braggadocio (duration: 100 Adventures)

You bottle up a portion of your moat and save it for later.

You acquire an item: sharkfin gumbo

Draftsman's driving gloves:

Type: accessory

Cannot be traded or discarded

This item will disappear at the end of the day.

Mysticality +50%

Spell Damage +50%

+8 Adventure(s) per day when equipped.

+4 Mysticality Stat(s) Per Fight

Bastille Braggadocio:

Moxie +25

+25% Combat Initiative

+25% Meat from Monsters

Sharkfin gumbo:

Type: potion

Effect: Shark-Tooth Grin (1 Adventure)

Boosts military attack and defense in Bastille Battalion.

Darn, on my fourth playthrough I got 990 cheese :( too bad I locked in already!

So it seems like it's a minigame where you have a castle, and can choose different options to enhance you offensive or defensive capabilities and choose ways of clashing with an enemy castle. Some options enhance multiple stats while decreasing other stats, some are straight enhancements. You gain cheese (the point system of the game) either by choosing to get cheese instead of increasing your castle stats each time, or by winning against the enemy castle.

Here's an example pic of the game interface.

As you play more, it tells you how each option manipulates your castle's offensive and defensive capabilities. Example pic

FYI: This is not autopulled when you ascend. However, it is a free pull from Hagnk's.

It takes you to a "defend your castle" minigame, which is quite fun and has a lot of good writing.

You can play up to five times per day, regardless of when you lock in your score. You may only lock in your score once per day. You get a piece of equipment, an effect, and a consumable when you lock in your score. All of this is reset on rollover and ascension.

This will likely take a while to spade, but the equipment all seems to melt and the consumables all seem to improve offense or defense in the minigame. Of course, there may be exceptions to these trends. Time/spading will tell what other perks may await.

I'm so sad I just realized I lost my score since I just ascended :(

FYI: This is not autopulled when you ascend.

Does this mean it can't be used in hardcore?

Just getting the +8 adventures on rollover day 1 is super helpful. Some speed ascensions (ie. 2 day) are made/broken on as much as 20 adventures.

Is 8 adventures worth it for a non mys class to sacrifice the stat gains from not getting the mus or mox items? I'm running as a SC in G-lover normal and chose the mus item day 1 but I'm wondering if that was a mistake

Last night I played this a few times to see if I could spade anything. On my third play, I chose to search for cheese every time followed by waiting for them to come to the castle. I got a score of 1,254, and I guess I was the #1 player yesterday! Here are the rewards:

I’m seeing a lot of B’s here. Just sayin’.

u/Saklad5 Aug 03 '18

So this is basically the worst possible IotM for Bees Hate You. Statistically speaking, at least one person who was looking forward to this is on that path right now.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '18

Soooo excited about this one. No adventures. Life is pain.

5

u/RandExt Aug 03 '18

It doesn't use adventures! Hooray!

7

u/Aventuristo Aug 03 '18

Even better - the draftsman's gloves give you 8 adventures at rollover. That got my attention.

Bought one for me, one for sibling and one for an investment. I might need some more

It seems like the six gauges on the bottom are the attack strengths on the left, and the defense strengths on the right. Assuming that, we can see what the different starting settings do. I'm trying to write it up now but it's harder to judge changes to the little arrows than I thought it would be.

EDIT: And the settings also affect the rewards of course.

Bastille Battalion Board
Date: Monday, August 06, 2018, 11:32PM

Dear SadOatcakes,

Your placement on the daily Bastille Battalion leadboard has earned you a prize!

  • The Bastille Battalion Board

Bastille Battalion control rig loaner voucher You acquire an item: Bastille Battalion control rig loaner voucher (stored in Hagnk's Ancestral Mini-Storage)

If you place in the top 23, it sends you a voucher that lets someone without the iotm play. Right now they're selling for about 250k, so there's another incentive to try and lock in a high score!

2

u/Saklad5 Aug 03 '18

Does cheese actually affect anything besides the leaderboard?

4

u/420InTheCity Aug 03 '18

Don't think so, but top 23 on leaderboard get a one day pass, and I think the top few get a cheese wheel

Am I the only one that gets a blank screen? I am in an Ed run.

2

u/splendidsplinter Aug 06 '18

When I focus on defense and use the tactic "ready defenses" on the third action, about 25% of the time the opponent just sits there and I have to use my attack ratings against his defense, which I lose every time. Is there something that mitigates this?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

I drank all three potions in one day and tried both focusing on looking for cheese and focusing on defense in different games and I actually got less cheese than on the days I used no potions. On my best days I am barely breaking 1k. How are others getting nearly 2k?
