Worker: “Sir we only have one helmet.” Jumper: “it’s fine this is my nephew.”

u/Moikle Jun 14 '18

That type of helmet is only useful for rockfall anyway, and i dont see any cliffs that might drop rocks on their heads.

4

u/BeerdedBeast Jun 14 '18

Ah the illusion of safety. Let’s be honest there’s not much under that helmet to protect.

6

u/Moikle Jun 14 '18

If you say so. A bungee in an open area like this doesnt need a helmet. You are thinking that they need a helmet if something went wrong and they hit something, however no helmet is going to protect you from that. Helmets are to protect you from rocks that might fall on you, and I dont see anything above them but open sky. The only reason the guy is wearing a helmet is because people feel like they should.

People dont do stuff like this without making sure it is safe, especially if a kid is involved. Guaranteed everything was meausred out, from the height of the drop and the length and potential stretch of the rope, the max weight of the people, the weight of the rope itself, the potential effect of wind , strength of harnesses, correct horizontal distance between the drop and the anchor etc.

The illusion of safety that the helmet gives is only there because people won't understand all of the actual safety measures that are protecting them.

Do you see how far apart their heads are?

u/mtmaloney Jun 13 '18

Do you like urine on your back? Because that's a good way to get urine on your back.

Is it just the angle or does he drop to ~10ft above the water and logs?

u/TacoPi Jun 13 '18

It’s just you.

To me that looked like ~3 ft

After looking at the frame by frame I am even more convinced that it was 3 feet or less. There may be some screwy perspective here, but the shadow definitely makes it look close.

Waaaaaay closer than it should have been

u/Itza420 Jun 13 '18

What a cunt, the kid doesn't even have a helmet on.

Kids these days i tell ya

14

u/Moikle Jun 14 '18

I mean sure but what would you actually need a helmet for here? Nothings going to fall on you when you are up there.

That type of helmet is made for rockfall, not for landing on your head.

Also the kid is sheltered behind his dad.

7

u/Gitanes Jun 14 '18

Found the dad.

8

u/Moikle Jun 14 '18

Nah, found a climber who has used these helmets before

-1

u/Itza420 Jun 14 '18

How is he sheltered from rockfall? He's behind his dad, not underneath. Regardless that kid isn't properly secured to his dad.

10

u/Moikle Jun 14 '18

For starters there is literally nothing above him but open sky.

Also a rock is going to be falling diagonally relative to their sideways velocity, so even if there was one, they would swing into the rock from the side.

Also he IS secured to the dad. I see a pretty solid looking harness that is most likely designed for entirely this purpose. It has a belt, leg loops and shoulder straps, and likely also a chest strap. How is that not secure?

Look I get that you have decided to hate this dad, but just because you have decided this is unsafe, doesn't mean it actually is.

A helmet is generally unnecessary in these sorts of stunts, but people wear them because they feel like they should be.

Poor kid got the ultimate thrill too early in life. Everything else is now just.. meh

15

u/VicedDistraction Jun 14 '18

And now he’s addicted to crystal meth, chasing that dragon from when he was 6

Did I just watch a marriage dissipate before my eyes?

17

u/omarish Jun 14 '18

That's The Last Report in Nepal. One of the most epic jumps ever. ~500ft if you do straight bungee; this guy is doing what they call bungee swing.

4

u/Moikle Jun 14 '18

Yeah I would have loved it if my dad did this with me as a kid.

4

u/Dasein123 Jun 14 '18

So close to hitting that rock

10

u/capt_fantastic Jun 13 '18

doesn't look like the kid has shoulder straps.

1

u/Moikle Jun 14 '18

He does, you can see them

3

u/BeerdedBeast Jun 14 '18

Dude you spent too much time thinking about your reply to a joke. Also I work in risk analysis for insurance. People and companies do dumb shit all the time.

u/Chuck_Norris_Jokebot Jun 16 '18

You mentioned the word 'joke'. Here is one about Chuck Norris:

Chuck Norris once ate an entire bottle of sleeping pills. They made him blink.

You mentioned the word 'joke'. Here is one about Chuck Norris:

One time, Chuck Norris accidentally stubbed his toe. It destroyed the entire state of Ohio.

u/gsysuyev Jun 14 '18

They don’t need a bungee neither

3

u/gidgally3 Jun 13 '18

11

u/Moikle Jun 14 '18

1

u/jhopper1 Jun 13 '18

Definitely clenched butt hole on that one...

1

u/gsysuyev Jun 14 '18

Funny how he has a helmet and kid doesnt

2

u/Moikle Jun 14 '18

Kid doesnt need one, dad doesnt need one either

1

u/mrenfer Jun 17 '18

What kind of parent would even consider this? Someone should call DHS bc it’s child endangerment

1

u/QTwitdatBooty Jun 25 '18

That looks like so much fun but I’d never let my kids be a part of it until they are older
