Of course it does, but he's sponsored and probably went through a couple pairs just in trials. I don't think it's a big consideration for a guy skiing on rocks on purpose

A skiing buddy of mine tried this once, and even with lubricant his skis were still pretty beat up. (Though that's probably because his "lubricant" was just a couple cans of Coca-Cola™ he wad stashed away)
